  • What's up Skate Fam? In this episode, I'm going to talk about why the new Hardcore Evo is not what I expected and what I think it would be better used for. Powerslide's Hardcore Evo is a inline skating fan favorite that has become more and more popular over the years. I've been skating the original Evo for a few years now, but I have also had the newer Hardcore Evo for over one year now and I feel like it's been long enough for me to have a good feel of what the differences in these two Hardcore Evos are. I am a little disappointed, but I still think it's a great skate. Watch the whole video to find out who I think this skate is for!

A couple of mistakes in this video to note:
At 7:30 I meant to say that the older Evo has a thinner tongue than the new one. New=thicker (and only if you’re ordering the custom model). Old=thinner.
At 8:18 I said I’ve skated the new Evo for a few years. I meant to say the old Evo. I have only had the new Evo for one year.
At 14:37 I meant to say “If the old Evo is a 10 out of 10 then the new one is a 7.5 out of 10.
Did a lot of this vid on the fly so there may be more mistakes I didn’t catch after upload. Thanks for watching!

I am truly frustrated, because on paper and theory the Trinity mount sounds fantastic. Although I rode the HC Evo (new version) for a short moment since they were too short (big foot needs EU 47 :D). The only thing I really noticed are the rattling buckles. So I set high hopes on the customs but honestly 649.99€ are too much for my taste for just boot only version and I couldn't care less about colours. Now they are offering the customs for 599.00€ but Trinity only.
Anyway, when they are kind of useless for slalom skating (because of your shown softness), which skate would perform better (purely) for slalom? I guess Seba High Light Carbon / Pros (at my level I am not quite sure I really need a carbon cuff, but a changable option would be nice though)?
I have seen the Iqon TR10/CL10. Just for the looks I like the CL10 more then I realized they have a 165 mount only.
I guess I should dump the Trinity mount and go for 165mount, since all slalom skater I know uses 165 mount? Also comparing Tau, CL/TR10 with HC EVO, and the Seba how important is a velcro strap for slalom technically speaking?

@@klerkusmaximus For slalom I can recommend the Seba High Light. It's cheap and gives more stability than the HC Evo. It's half the price and the buckles don't rattle, last practically forever and I've never had to change the straps. But he needs a certain break-in period. For me, the FR Spin is on the same level as the HC Evo in terms of quality and style. This is the best choice for everyone who is looking for a cheap and very comfortable skate. It rides excellently, but due to the low cuff and the soft boot design, it gives less support than the Seba highlight. But at least as much as the HC Evo. At the same time, both skates, the Seba High Light and the FR Spin, offer significantly better usability compared to the HC Evo, which is twice as expensive. Compared to these 2 skates, the HC Evo is overpriced. For the money you also get the Seba Highlight Carbon or if you prefer the low cuff the FR Igor. www.warehouse-one.de/en/fr-skates/igor-inline-skate-2023-black.html

Great video sir!! I always appreciate your in-depth thoughts. I have been on the new evos for about 6 months now. I feel that the fit and comfort is really good, although I did not skate any older evo model. I do find that they are a bit narrow for my bigger foot (my right foot). Certainly the responsiveness/feel is much better than the swell or next, but of course it's a different price point. I really like the trinity mount though, and this is the best skate I have had for both urban and slalom skating. Not sure if I would like an fr or Seba boot more but no trinity option there. Thanks again for your in depth review and information, info like this is hard to come by!!

I really like my Evos -- purchased earlier this year. Same reason I bought them was because I could not find any info on the FR Spins, and there sometimes being fitment issues with different 165 mount frames.
I chose to switch the 45º ratchet strap with the velcro strap from the Lomax Aeon. The cuff, imo, is very soft, almost useless -- I was lucky enough to put my foot into an Iqon TR10 and the cuff is amazing, the carbon also felt stiffer than the Evo.
The rattling is maddening and I am currently seeking velcro replacements, especially considering how the ratchet straps loosen while skating (this is also true on the TR10). My biggest gripe? If you want to buy a Powerslide replacement velcro strap, they do not come with bolts. I also have the issue with loosening my ratchet and nearly damaging my thumb to remove them. On both my Evo and Next boot, the straps are permanently warped.

Thank you for your video. I bought the stock black a year ago. This is my 6th pair of skates and the only carbon boot I own. I would say this is my least favorite pair. The top buckles rattled so bad that I had to change them. It's very hard to get my foot in and out and even after heat molding them I feel too much compression on the toe box area which causes my toes to go numb after long skates. I like the power transfer and the sturdiness.

Yeah I always loved the look of the HC Evo, but definitely the older model. I would have bought a pair but I fear they won't fit my wide feet! I think I remember you already thought the new ones were inferior when it came to buckles and straps?
Still a very good skate, just not as good as the older model.
I feel the same about FR, I recently bought the FR FR1 deluxe intuition, and while it's a quality skate, the older, Seba FR1's are just superior in quality. I feel the plastic used in the new FR FR1's seems thinner, cheaper. Just my personal opinion.

Out of curiosity, if supposing someone were in the market for a higher-end trinity-mount urban skate, what might you recommend these days? Because it sure sounds like these new Evos-well good-don’t seem to be nearly as good as they used to be within that market?

You could wait for the Iqon TR20 to come out. The TR10 is the only trinity boot they have out right now but seems to be similar to the Evo other than the lace system. The TR20 has been teased on Iqon’s Instagram stories a few times and will have a removable liner from the get-go so you can easily throw in a shock pad. Afaik it’s the only carbon trinity boot that won’t have an integrated liner and will essentially be the trinity version of the factory linerless Seba SX

    • @DeezSkates
      @DeezSkates  Рік тому +3

Hey Ashley! Like Phorpse said, Iqon also has Trinity skates under the Disroyal line. Iqon is essentially just Powerslide acting under a different name.
The TR-10 essentially looks like a rebranded, slightly redesigned HC Evo. Obvious differences are the carbon cuff and auto lacing system. However, I see no evidence that the front quarters, specifically the arch and toe box areas, are any different from the new Evos, based on the material I see in photos. I would have to hold this in skate and try it on before I would recommend. It may just be similar to the new Evo with a stiffer cuff.
      disroyal.com/collections/iqon-tr-skates/products/tr-10-boot
I have heard some decent things about the newer “killer whale” colored Tau, but it’s harder to get and I also have no personal experience with it.
Best practice is, order from a place that does free returns like Inline Warehouse. Try it on in the house and inspect it closely for flaws to see if it suits you. Send it back if it doesn’t pass.

Absolutely love the Looks the Fit the Comfort, I just want some extra rigidity and support. I'm pretty sure Ricardo Lino shared the same opinion about the older Evo model being more rigid, better quality and a general nicer product.

This is a great comparison. I had the old Evos for just over a year but I cracked the carbon on the right boot near the front left trinity mounting point. So now I have the new Evos because they were still under warranty but sadly didn’t have any old ones available.
I’m really not a fan of the mesh look of the new ones. They look like a sneaker compared to the high end leather boot that the old ones did. I’m also in Canada and skate year-round so I was worried about the cold coming in through the mesh during the winter. And I was right, which caused me to favour other boots until it warmed up again.
I know it was a minor thing that you mentioned, but I really appreciated the Kevlar lines in the old boot. They wrap around each eyelet so your laces would just pull the skin in better over your foot. It seems that Powerslide also did away with the Kevlar lines on the Reign hockey line which makes me glad that I have the Kronos still and haven’t had to replace them with the Aries.
The buckles were a non-issue for me since I replaced the top ratchet buckle with a standard push one, and the 45 degree with a leather strap (I do mostly urban, pretty much no slalom). I really didn’t like the tongue or mesh liner on either Evo so I gutted the new Evos as soon as holes started popping up in the mesh this time. The old ones had some holes before replacement too. The boot feels way better with an Intuition v2 liner, though it opened up about half a size. I went from a tight performance fit to more of a comfort fit but I would 100% gut it again.

Just a response to this video... First, I don't agree with your definitions about the two skates. Both skates are great for slalom, urban, street skating. However, the original HC Evos were very much aimed at slalom hence the super stiff upper and tongue, but a lot of skaters complained/commented that they weren't comfortable for all day urban skating (yes urban, not fitness). While the newer version is more aimed at urban skating from the off with a slightly softer upper and tongue directly aimed at satisfying that skate demand while still being able to perform for slalom skaters which it does very well.
Next, if you want a tight fit and are using the straps to get this then you are doing up your skates wrong from the start. That's what the laces are for. The straps are an extra layer of support just for that slight extra edge but you should be able to skate perfectly without them even done up. Personally I don't need or want my skates that tight so I only rely on the straps after having swapped out laces for some elastic cord which is now fitted permanently so I don't have to bother with them and I skate just fine. The only time I have skates tight, is on my ice hockey skates but that's my choice. Ultimately whether you like the changes or not, that is personal preference but it is utterly incorrect to label them as 'fitness' skates.
I do agree regarding the images though as if I had ordered bronze and they arrived gold than I would not be happy. However, if the colour selected stated gold then I don't see the issue as it's well known that specific colours don't always look correct via a computer screen. I also wouldn't even entertain the idea that the bling wouldn't scuff straight off. That's why I would never have anything other than a matte black anywhere that is likely to be scuffed and scrapped. Same with the Nexus frame that I have which is black and gets scraped on the edges all the time and then shows silver but that is nothing that can't be fixed with a quick colouring over with an Edding paint marker.
I understand that these skates aren't a 10/10 for you... but I feel that you were expecting something without knowing what you were buying. The are MKII HC Evos, not MKI... it's up to you to know if the MKII skates suit you or not.
Anyway... no hate here just some honest feedback.

@@moonsol The Spin's are great skates and they are a fair bit cheaper too. However, the most basic rule of choosing a skate is make your own choice. Go to a shop if you can and try them both. What I may like you may hate and vice versa. Get the correct size for yourself and choose which skates you prefer. If you have any doubts, don't waste your money... wait until you are certain.
My size etc isn't important... if I was buying today and the fit was correct, then I'd probably go for the HC Evo 'Sam Croft Pro' version... but they are around £150 more than standard Evos and £200 more than the Spins... but that would probably be my choice of what is out today.

What happens, and why to ask you the size and measurements is because it is very difficult to find those skates in stores, almost always has to be online or imported

It´s too much bashing for my taste, guys. The new Evos are my favorite skate by far. They are tight enough for my urban skills. They are nimble as hell. They react immediately as a sportcar. Can wear them all time long…
The PS quality is not the best. I like FR and seba more. However, you cant compare the FR spins to Evos - I have both. And the Evos are the far better skates. Spins are much less supportive. But they are light and comfy.
But none of the are comparable to fitness skates. Fitness skates are a terrible product. Dont understand how can anyone buy them…

I’m glad you like them. To be clear, I don’t hate them. I’m just disappointed that they are not as good as the older Evo, and even the stock model costs more now. To me, they are just a high performance fitness skate, but everyone has a different style. I’m glad they don’t feel that way for you. Appreciate your input about the FR Spin. I haven’t had the opportunity to try them yet.

      VICORULEZ,🎉
Hello! After all these months you still have that opinion?
I just between buying some fr spin, or a evo 2021, but comments like "it's a hard fitness boot" scares me.
      Could you update your opinion?
And one last thing, could you share your mondo point? And your number in spin and evo? I'm afraid order for the wrong number. Thanks a lot! 🎉

@@moonsol Definitely buy the FR Spin. If you buy a 3x90 frame and the right wheels, you'll have a lot of fun. The comfort is incredibly good and the support and responsiveness at HC Evo level or better. The optics are similar to the FR Igor.

I bought a new evo and I am disappointed. The shoes look nice, but the quality of the materials leaves much to be desired. The boots have some shortcomings, namely a badly sewn (or badly glued in) insert in the heel area. The insert is higher than the shell on which the glue is applied, when it gets in it sticks to the bottom, and when I lift my leg up, it comes off. I was advertising the product and they sent me new shoes ... with the same problem, only in the second shoe! In addition, on the one boot, there is a poorly glued shoe when attaching the trinity. I haven't ridden them yet. I've tried to come to terms with it and hope it will take shape, but I realize these are $ 600 skates, and not some ordinary noname. Powerslide is not writing anything back, they blew it after sending the second pair. They just read the message. I am thinking of returning my rolls because the quality is deplorable

Yea that X shaped insert they added in for heel lock is glued to the mesh and not really attached to the carbon very well. Basically it’s mesh->glue->X insert->foam backing->ton of glue->carbon. So the X could definitely come loose and move with the mesh.

I skate one year on new evo. Is disappointing for that price. Feet control is not perfect becouse of new material. I can skate only on tight shoelaces. Straps are a joke, extra bad fashion ornaments.

@@DeezSkates thanks for answering. The problem is huge and Powerslide is censoring my messages so people don't realise the security problem that this skates have. You don't have to publish this comment if you don't want to, but please watch the video. In this video you can see the small nuts used compared to a classic nut.
