      I have same frames. They are casted and great value. Only £33 for a pair but not as rigid as 4x80mm Nexus frames I use on Taus. And you can really feel the difference. The 4x80mm Nexus trinity frames which come with the first Kaze skates are just superb. I was surprised how well that combination (Tau+Nexus+Spinners) dampens the rough surfaces.

    Hello Lino,
    Thank you for that video! :)
    I finally ended ordering both the Tau and the HC Evo (none of them was available in my local skateshop, unfortunately).
    On paper, I liked the Tau more...but it seems my feet 'think' differently.
    However, I got the 43 (as we discussed that on messenger, I am between 43 and 44, but since 44 was not available I decided to give 43 a try).
    It just crushes my 4th and little toes, as well as my big toe nail!
    Length wise is is OK (although there is only on few millimeters margin for my big toe), but they are f***ing narrow and low/thin at the boot end.
    The Tau toe box feels better in this regard, even if still narrow.
    I hesitate between sending them back and getting a 44 or keeping them and try heat molding. (I will only take the risk to heat mold them if I am not sure I will keep them ; it is not correct to return an heat molded pair to the shop from my point of view).
    From you experience, is it possible to widen significantly the toe bow heat molding?
    i am not sure, since regarding the geometry i guess the boot end shape can't be modified that much…
    Cheers,
    Fred

    You know Ricardo, some part of my creative brain just pictured you there talking about skates like an aficionado in a velvet robe, ascot, and a glass of scotch on the table right by the skates, all right beside a fire place in a moody lit room. It’s like “the 360 movement below our feet talk” with Ricardo Lino, and there would be light music of violins in the background playing Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. All classy like. Not sure why my brain painted that but I thought i should share with you. Maybe you could make use of it.

    I just got my pair today and I love them. Wish I bought this pair first...I would have saved myself thousands of dollars trying to find the perfect skate. I will be putting all my other skates on the shelf. I have the rockerable tri-wheel katana frames. The only thing I would change on these skates is get the four wheel rockerable frames for them. I just love the feel of a 4 wheel rocker. The 3 wheel rocker is not as nice. The mild rocker set up is a bit sticky or slow and the extreme rocker is very tippy and almost impossible to skate with.
    These skates have no pressure points and feel perfect in everyway. So glad I decided to buy them. I would never buy any other frame set up other than the trinity. All the other brands are inferior with a 2 bolt mounting and high center of gravity. The trinity keeps the front wheel very close to the bottom of the skate.

    Hi Ricardo. I loved that you mention that this is a slalom skate but you use to for urban skating. I'm planning to buy a new pair of skates, I mainly do urban skating (I do not jump or do tricks too much) and long distance, about 25km 3 days a week and +50km on sundays. My question is if this is the right skate for someone like me with 110mm wheels (I`ve been skate 3x110 for 1 year) or should I go for a long distance skate like the powerslide R6 with 125mm wheels, and I'm not sure if you have tried them, but I will appreciate your advice. Thanks and keep up the good job you are doing.

  • @geu6270
    @geu6270 3 роки тому

    I would put a mag 3x125mm 318mm frame on them for some distance. (the magnesium trinity frames are light but mainly they absorb shock like crazy for long skates* !!! I have them on 2 other boots.) I like some distance skating with a higher but a little loose cuff. The slightly raised heel angle (combined with the raised frame angle in the back) helps reduce achilles and hamstring pressure as well as facilitate your front lean that we do in distance. In exercise physiology we would recommend a couple of degrees of raised heel. You can also get that in other skates via a gel heel cup.😀 Only problem with these skates ....can't get them in the United States in a size 46.🙁 *I will also run torrent 125mm wheels on really rough roads with the mag frame for extra shock control. Next best thing to a pneumatic 125mm.😀

    I roll with the 2nd generation Seba Igor with the updated integrated liner. I replaced the carbon cuff with an FR cuff. Although it has three straps, I even add a fourth strap at the arch! My foot is 170.5 mm and the boot is 170mm. All of these features combine for a very tight, precise and responsive fit! Then, I have my custom Rissignol Descenders. Two of the best.
    Those Hardcore Evo Trinity skates look legit, though! The trinity mounting is an added feature, but also a limiting factor. There's more than one way to skin a cat

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому

      The 3x100mm frame je is talking about is only 231mm.
      On paper, that make a very good candidate to replace the 'classic' 4x80mm 243~247mm freeskate frame.
      Shorter, more maneuverable, faster, lighter but ~1cm taller and - maybe - less stable at high speed.
      This is what I am planning to buy as a complement of the supplied 235mm frame.
      IMHO 3x125cm is a completely different world.
      It's longer, much taller, probably much faster.
      Very different beast.
      My 2 cents.

    Hey Lino Life. Just came across your awesome channel. I am in inline speed skater and distance biker. I skate a custom Bont vapor with 110 and 125mm wheels. I want a skate i can Urban skate, do slides, carve down a hill, and that is more comfortable on my feet and ankles for a long skate like A2A. I am intrigued by the Tao and EVO HC both in the Trinity version. I like the look of the Tau and that it seems to have a lower heel position. However when i look at the size chart i am wider at the midfoot than the 100mm top end. Any idea how much play the heat moldability on the EVO will give me? And with the right Trinity frame could i use it for a more comfortable long distance skate? Thanks!

    Hi, Ricardo! Sorry that Tau skates hurt your ankle (you said that on your last vids) but I feel like they are WAY underrated. After just a few sessions, the smart foam liner in my Tau's feel so great. With the skate on 4x80 and the lower heel everything feels so tight and we'll balanced, like Thanos says 😂hah well just wanted to share my thoughts. I appreciate the cool content! 😤😀

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому +1

      Hello,
      After long discussions with Powerslide - who provided a lot of useful information, many thanks to Jürgen and Ricardo! - I decided to order both Tau 90 Carbon Trinity and HC Evo Pro Trinity and to let the fit decide.
      My toes feel better in the Tau. The toe area is larger (as PS said to me).
      The HC Evo is just crushing my 4th and little toes, as well as my big toe nail. Maybe I need to go a size up? (I am between 43 and 44 and ordered a 43 because I wanted to give it a try first.) I won't heatmold them since i am not sure which pair I will keep…
      In the Tau, I have a pressure above my heel in the Achile tendon area; It feels like the shell is really wrapping the heel is is narrower above it.
      The fit is VERY different than the HC Evo.
      Did someone experienced that?
      I can't skate them as I am not sure if I'll keep them so I would like to know if it get worse (or not) over time.
      Thanks!

    • @wg9601
      @wg9601 6 років тому +1

      Frédéric CUDEIRO I have not noted much ankle pain. Also, the Tau is speed foam molding, so rather than doing oven heat molding, it automatically adjusts to your foot over just a few sessions. I skated in my Tau's for about an hour each, after just the third session my heel locks in and it feels like like a glove fit.

    • @ados1980cz
      @ados1980cz 6 років тому

      I love my Taus too. They are best fitting skates I ever had. I have quite narrow feet and slim lower legs. I did hurt one of my inside ankle in Seba SX and until this was fully healed I could feel the pressure point there in Taus too. Since that injury is fully healed now the Taus are most comfortable yet most supporting skates I ever had. Shame the first version of Taus does not have the front protector as I already managed to scrape the front leather quite a bit by dragging it against pavement when trying the "one foot tuck" when going downhill. I may put some hockey tape there to protect it a bit.

Micro adjustable Force ratchet buckle make noise and vibrate when the ground is not smooth. When it is just a little uneven this happens. How is the fit and feel compared to the 2018 powerslide tau 90 skates?

    • @RicardoLino
      @RicardoLino  6 років тому

      It’s a different fit..I don’t know exactly why: but some how with my not so healthy feet the days won’t fit me and this do. Foams are different and the carbon construction is completely different.

    • @Heroiclawbby
      @Heroiclawbby 6 років тому +1

      I will have to try both out before I buy at my local skate shop

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому +1

      You definitely should!
      I just ordered both because 'fit does matter' and they are very different.
      I'll keep the pair my feet chose. And my feet and my head apparent tell different stories...
      DISCLAIMER
      I only passed the Tau and the HC Evo at home.
      My feet are...my feet...so what feels good for me might feel awkward to you (or the opposite).
      I also guess that some breaking in period (or heat molding in the case of the HC Evo) can change everything.
      On paper, I like the Tau more.
      I like their look. Especially the 2017 version paired with orange or cyan wheels, which looks just amazing IMHO! (It's a pity PS carbon urban boots are now so grim colorwise…)
      I like their compression molded carbon shell (that's the engineer inside me!), which should offer lighter and stronger construction. I checked, they are a tad lighter (about 40gr. per boot in size 43, not a huge difference and not sure it is due to the shell….)
      I like the two vent sunder the boot because I often suffer from temperature and moisture in my skates. (Although PS should definitely provide a cover for riding on rainy days…)
      But passing the Tau, I experience a big pressure above my heel, in the Achille tendon area. My heel is like wrapped completely (which is good in a way), but above it it presses a lot.
      Once again I only tried at home and when adopting a more 'skating like position' (bending my knees), the pressure releases...a bit.
      it's a pity because 'on paper', once again, I like them more.
      it's also a pity because the toe box is narrower on the HC Evo and just crush my 4th and little toe, as well as my big toe nail.
      Since I am somewhere between 43 (the size I ordered because they had it in stock) and 44, I will give the 44 a try.
      (or take the risk to keep the 43 and heat mold it.)

    • @SuwerennyPL
      @SuwerennyPL 6 років тому +1

      frederic cudero, so you ordered HC evo 43? and tau which size? HC evo fit smaller or larger than tau? And another models which size do you wear normaly?

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому +1

      Suwerenny PL my feet are 276mm (+/-2mm depending on the method and the tool) long, 105 mm (left, leading foot) and 102 mm (right) large.
      It is slightly on the large side, but only in the metatarsus area. The rest of my feet is normal (maybe even slightly on the narrow side).
      I have a low instep.
      That said, for dress shoes I usually wear UK9 which is more or less a 43.1/3. Most are from English brand so with quite large and rounded lasts.
      I often lack support on the instep.
      For sneakers, I usually by EU44.
      For skates, I was between 43 and 44 in PS size chart. Shop had only 43 in stock, so I ordered it.
      I don't think HC Evo size "smaller" or "bigger" than Tau.
      They are simply narrower in the toe area.
      But Tau are narrower in other areas. Plus I have this pressure above the heel.
      They just have different shapes.
      I did not regret ordering both to test, the feet have to choose.

      MrCruzor You generally want around 83-86a. However, urethane compounds differ and hardness is not the only consideration.

      MrCruzor Fuck yes, you need to remove the wheels! Haha Remove everything. I can't advise if its possible or how to do it; every skate is different. Ask the manufacturer/distributer/retailer if it is possible and then seek official instructions. You can find instructions for other skates at the very least on UA-cam, etc.

  • @psychkub

    I had just bought the taus when these came out and while the taus are pretty comfortable out of the box, it has taken a couple of weeks to break them in to how comfortable they are now. I don't understand why the taus skate is more expensive compared to the hardcore evo when you don't even get the heat moldability you get with the evo. I would rather heat mold my skate and have it fit right, rather than break in my skate over the span of a couple weeks. Also, the ratchet buckle is so much better compared to the normal plastic buckle that comes on the taus. If I had the chance to go back, I would rather get the evo instead of the taus.

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому +1

      The Tau have Undercover wheels => more expensive
      The Tau use compression molded carbon, as opposed to wet carbon lay up for the HC Evo. If you look at both, the material looks "matte" on the Tau, as opposed to "shinny" on the HC Evo. That's because of that.
      I only have very limited knowledge regarding carbon fibber reinforced polymers, but on paper the solution used by the Tau should enable for lighter and stronger material (but certainly at the expense of cost).
      Regarding the buckling, Tau 2018 has the exact same ratchet buckles as the HC Evo 2018. It is one of the difference between Tau 2017 and Tau 2018..
      If you don't like the buckle on the Tau, you can purchase the same as the HC Evo for just a few bucks. :)
      That said, I just ordered both. I did not skate them at the moment because I am still deciding.
      But both fit VERY differently. They are very different, the shell is not the same at all.
      The Tau seem a bit more sophisticated, because of the compression molded carbon, because of other details, but in the end I guess that the feet decide.

    • @Peterkramer929
      @Peterkramer929 6 років тому

      How about the fit? Wich of the two would you thinks is wider? compared to seba, powerslide is often to narrow in the toe area for me. (seba igor is fine for me)

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому

      Tau 2018 have two ratchet buckles, exactely like the HC Evo 2018. If you get the older model, you can replace the top buckle for about 10 €. Official spare parts are available from your skateshop.
      Tau use compression molded carbon. This is what the carbon look matte, no shinny like on the HC Evo (less expoxy resin). Compression molded carbon is stronger and lighter.
      That's also why they are not heat moldable (although it is likely to change next year :) ).
      Also, the Tau now come with Undercover wheels instead of Spinner wheels.
      The fit is different also.
      Tau have the pain free shell.
      The heel is much more locker in the Tau.
      The heel also sits lower (which might be an advantage or a disavantage depending on your preference).
      I hesitated between them, tried both, they are slightly different beast. Despite not being heat moldable, the Tau feel a bit higher end. But the most important thing remains fit IMO and some may prefer one or the other.

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому

      The Tau seem marginally wider in the Tau area.
      But on the other side, heat molding MAY allow to widen a bit the HC Evo.
      Fit is very different in the heel area.

    • @psychkub
      @psychkub 6 років тому

      I have Seba SX and the tau fit much narrow, but not uncomfortably so. It has taken about 5-6 10+ mile rides for the foam to pack out a bit and now they fit like a glove.

    Does anybody have any tips to clean and lubricate bearings?

    • @InlineDownhillVancouver
      @InlineDownhillVancouver 6 років тому +1

      Remove shields. Attach bearings to a rod, place in bottle secured with lid. Fill part way with citris cleaner with terpenes and shake vigorously. Remove. Rinse with hot water (yes, water!) And then place in oven at around 350 degrees for 10 minutes; remove retainer, if plastic! Reassemble, one drop of light bearing oil, shields back on.
      More thorough way: take bearing completely apart and then reassemble.

      Inline Downhill Vancouver thanks, helped a lot

    • @fredericcudeiro6614
      @fredericcudeiro6614 6 років тому +1

      Completely agree with that, except the oven.
      I recommend an hair dryer, but starting with cold air, then switching to hot air.
      (You need some air flow or some water drops will remain inside the bearings…)
      I also recommend to make them spin a bit before, as centrifugal force will help to get rid of the remaining water. Just by hand. (Don't put them on your drill, they are not yet lubricated!)
      They have to be PERFECTLY dry.
      Then, as for the lub', it depends on where you are riding (lot of contaminants? dust? sand?) and how often you want to clean and lub them.
      A low viscosity lub' (oil) will offer you more speed, do not retain contaminant as much a thicker one, but as to be added much more often.
      A thicker lub will be slower, retains contaminants much easier, but requires less maintenance.
      The shields of your bearings also play a role in this regard.
      Some are just metal shield and can let contaminant inside (or lub outside).
      Some are polymer and are leak tight, (almost) not contaminant gets inside, lub stay inside (but still has to be replaced, nothing is perfectly leak tight), but they produce more friction (so less speed).

    • @InlineDownhillVancouver
      @InlineDownhillVancouver 6 років тому +1

      Frédéric CUDEIRO Yep, spinning them to remove excess water before drying is what I do as well and it speeds up the process. The oven works just fine and takes less work. The hair dryer works just fine too. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
      Light oil for speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed! Going fast is where it's at.
