  • So after arriving back from a crucial supermarket run, my Nissan 180SX decided to dump half of its coolant on the ground. Closer inspection revealed the bearing seal on the water pump had let go. It was the factory pump and at 175000kms, well past due for changing, so I changed it along with the thermostat, also the factory one. Threw some new belts into the bargain as well.

Could you do a video on the entire AC system? I’m struggling to figure out how to put AC in mine, since the previous owner got rid of everything😂 Keep up the dope videos!

I could make one, but parts of the system (the evaporator and the expansion valve) are behind the dashboard, so I wouldn't be able to show it all to you.

Scrubworks either way, i appreciate it! It’s hard to find a channel that posts the little things when owning a 180. Can’t wait to see what else you post!

Perfect timing I got to change my 180sx WP, parts got in as well...but did I see correctly, the radiator topped off, and warm engine to mid(not high) with open throttle while the fan was off? I asked cause I screw up and get bubbles all the time ..Thank for the vid... Sub

Yes, I deliberately left the fan off during the bleeding procedure to allow the engine to warm up more quickly. I actually bled it through in three goes, because it takes a while to get the fresh coolant into the block when it's totally empty, and I didn't want to overheat it. You can generally let it idle, but you can rev it a few times to give the water pump a bit of extra push and expel some trapped air. Squeezing the radiator hoses also helps move it along.
If you're getting bubbles all the time, then air is probably getting into the cooling system from somewhere, if all your hoses are tightened down and there's no coolant leaking out, then that may indicate a head-gasket issue, and compression might be seeping into the coolant passages and making bubbles.

Awesome...I'll let it do its thing.
I got an oversized radiator and believe I dont have to fill at the top to get enough in the engine to push air out. Hopefully I'm connecting the right dots lol. Never did any work other than stereo and speakers on the 180.
Thanks tho your info is worth value, I got my 180 off the truck July 1 last year and the smile havent left my face. Driving on weekends for now.
