1 year later and this still super helpful! Saved me about $500 I went to a shop and that was the bill. I went and got the pump and a socket set and did it. Super accomplished feeling thanks Chris. Keep it up!
A little trick I've used in my almost 30 years as a professional factory trained technician is while it's sitting there with your spill proof funnel full, grab the rad hoses and squeeze them quite a few times so the coolant pulsates in the system and it'll almost 100% bleed your system before you've even started your vehicle.. It's so simple and I've never encountered a vehicle this didn't work on.
I've probably utilized 5% of the videos he's made with my own vehicles. Watching the rest and every other repair videos just ads a slight amount of understanding of how to fix and diagnose stuff
I know nothing of cars. Saw my engine overheating, looked at coolant coming out; guessed it was the water pump based off its looks and google images of them looking similar... using this as a guide, I changed it and it worked!! No more coolant leaks, no more over heating! Thank you so much, ChrisFix!
That only helps if your car uses an old-fashioned heater valve system, where coolant is only diverted through the heater core when you turn the heater on. Many cars these days are designed so that the coolant is always flowing through the heater core. When you turn the heater on, you're not changing the coolant flow, you're just opening an air door that allows the hot air from the core to enter the cabin. Every car I've owned since 1992 has used the more modern system.
my 96 camry still uses the heater valve system, you can see the cable that connects the heater dial to a valve on the coolant hose in the engine bay, the valve is located right before the firewall. Turning it all the way to cold fully shuts off the heater core from the cooling system, you can also hear a clunk which I'm guessing is an air door as well. Turning the dial just one click away from the lowest setting opens the valve very slightly however.
@@dunebasher1971 the "air door" system is the way it should always be imo. I have a '97 camry that doesnt seem to have this system. Fan works on all power settings perfectly fine. But the core is not providing the necessary heat for faster airflows.

Excellent video, you have a great down to earth "keep it simple" mentality. I did the pump in my wife's 2005 Yukon. The shop wanted $750 to do it. For $262 total in parts, including new thermostat, upper radiator hose and serp belt, and a few hours (my first time, I wanted to take my time and do it right) it was worth the $490 savings. It's run like a champ since, she's made several long distance trips with it and not a drop of leakage.

Jaguar? Try Ford. The Jaguar X-Type is basically a rebadged Ford Mondeo / Ford Taurus. But you're absolutely right about Dealerships being a ripoff. Dealerships make 70+% of their profits from their Parts and Services departments, next is Used Car Sales, and lastly, New Car Sales.
I had to stop my hand from trying to reach through my phone to try and pet your dog. lol Also, I had a drain plug shear off and didn't have an OEM radiator. So I put steel stick in the drain plug to seal it. It stopped the leak, but my engine was still overheating. I did some trouble shooting and some googling. I narrowed it down to either my thermostat or my water pump. After watching your video on the thermostat, I pulled my thermostat and it wasn't bad, in fact it was almost new. (About 1 1/2 years old) So then I watched this video. I'm currently replacing my water pump. I go to your channel for all of my car maintenance questions. A mechanic will tell you is a 3 hour job and needs a bunch of specialty tools. (fan clutch) In reality Joe Smoe (me) can do it with basic tools in 30-40 minutes. Your tutorials are the best. Thank you for sharing.
His parents love him, big car companies hate him. Click to find out why. Lol
What happens next will shock you
Amazing inventions you won’t believe exist
Click here to find out what kind of water pump you are.
Find out in the next episode of dragon Ball Z
Number 1998 will shock you
Service shops don't like doing anything difficult. If we can do it in our driveway they can do it far cheaper
Lol external water pumps aren't that common most are chain driven or timing belt driven
@@robbiesantos7677 exactly
13 min video took him 6 hours....c'mon bruh
Hell, my Duramax water pump is driven by a gear on the cam shaft.
You should never work on your own car. Take it to a professional, not a UA-camr
No one:
Chris: *JUST LIKE THAT*
Like WHAT?
William Biggs LIKE THAT
other than watching a couple of volvo heads on youtube, this channel is my first source for any job i’m doing on my car and hands down the best quality diy mechanic videos on youtube🙌
800$ for this easy job?!!! Total rip-off, thank you Chris 👍
Dealers are approaching $200 an hour for labor. A jag factory part is gonna be 2-300 or more plus all new coolant so another 1-200 for that.
FishFind3000 200$ an hour for labor?! Where do you live?! It would only be reasonable if I’m fixing a damn Rolls Royce.
Damn you have been working hard much respect for you Chris
Been here since day one keep it up🔥💪🏽💪🏽👍🏼
Never get tired of hearing Chris say "wooder paump"😁
That was one of the most easiest water pumps I've seen someone do. I do like that funnel set up.
Normal people when their car has a problem/breaks down : "OH SHIT!"
ChrisFix: "Awesome! . Got some content"
😂😂😂
"Great, more excuse to wrench on it."
That's usually my response, and it doesn't break down a lot. *knocks on wood*.
It's pretty funn- *notices the emojis* Oh, nvm.
Dealership: We about to make $800 boys!
Chrisfix: Hey guys Chrisfix here!
Dealership: F&@#$%^&*(!!!!!
Lmaoo
I like how you showed the installation process too instead of just saying “installation is the reverse of removal” because there were differences and useful info in the installation!
CHRIS FIX IS HERE ?
IS IT A DREAM CAR ?
NO
SOBS
Finaly a new vid man... i have been whaiting sooooo longggg!!!!!😭😭😭❤️
Me too
I feel you
Ive been updating everyone every day on Instagram. I had a road trip with meet-ups for the last two weeks.
Waiting.
Brandon Caldwell jea im sorry im from the nederlands🤷🏻♂️😂
Chris one detail you didn't mention is to put the heat on to circulate through the entire system while idling
Good tip!
Was just about to say that...
Man...i'm 17 and i don't even know how to fix a car but after i watch all of your video , i feel really confident now to work on car at my dad workshop...thank you for making good and detail video...keep making good video man :)
A tear of happiness rolled down my eye when I saw that chrisfix posted a video😂
never clicked that fast :)
Chrisfix calling the Jaguar stealership.
Jaguar Rep: Hello, this is Jaguar. How may we help?
Chrisfix: Hey guys! Chrisfix here!
Chrisfix hangs up.
Jaguar?
I had to stop my hand from trying to reach through my phone to try and pet your dog. lol
Also, I had a drain plug shear off and didn't have an OEM radiator.
Keep it up.
Perfect video, good explaining as always. JesusChrist Cris, you make it easier for everyone, Bravo!, please man, keep doing your great work. Regards from Lima, Peru. Saludos amigo.
I had just finished replacing my water pump right before ChrisFix uploaded this 😂
Lmao same thing with my dad's chevy
Chrisfix you are the best automotive channal on youtube because of your tips and tricks thanks Chris
Jeez, corporations should be sponsoring this guy. His videos are amazingly well done. Sponsors need to see this. I just logged on to get some tips to show my boys how to work on cars. Never thought I'd find anything this good. My kids can see EVERYTHING with the camera, lighting and angles.
Dude, I don't even have anything broke on my car and watching your videos makes me want to go fix it!
if it ain't broke, fix it until it is. :-)
I don’t even change my own oil but after binge watching ChrisFix, I find myself trying to talk my wife into letting me buy a junker to restore🤣
I say it's a good idea :p
Same bro. I’ve literally never even changed my own oil and last night I put an ad online looking to buy a fixer to work on. Currently eyeing an 09 dodge challenger that needs a new head gasket.
Don't do it. Nagging will ensue after the car has been laying around in pieces for a couple months
@Robert Powell try talking your mother into believing you can fix a junker.
Why do you have to be “let” to do it? Just do it.
What a good son, fixing his Dad's car!
Fellow Jersey boy here (born at Fort Dix)....I have to smile every time he says, "Wooder pump"....Wicked funny!
Don't worry Chris , cooper will get you trending once again as he's in the video
Me: Chris my car stopped working!
Chris: Have you added medium strength thread locker?
Sawyer Thomson with soapy wooder
I’m not even old enough to drive a car, but i still love watching your videos! Keep up the good work!🙂
I’m 13 and have 3 years to go. I’m gonna go to this video if my pump goes bad.
Chris, your videos are so fun to watch and have saved me a lot of money, I have a 99 New Edge Mustang 3.8 (of course I'm always looking for more HP!) and 83 RX-7 that sat under a tree for 20+ years, your videos have helped on both projects. Both cars are running great thanks to you! Thank You So Much!
Wow this guy is a complete GENIUS! The quality of his videos just awesome ! Awesome dude!
Mine was really stuck. Gasket was hard to remove. Pump lasted 23 yrs and 230K miles!
Might as well replace the belt while it’s accessible.
400+ dislikes from jaguar services
stoyan dimitrov now there’s 655 😂😂😂
After getting my water pump, antifreeze flushed, and oil changed for $90,I can thoroughly say most mechanic shops are going to hell. I've done almost all the work on my cars, and saved thousands thanks to these videos.
You gave me the confidence to replace my own alternator without anyone's help. Just $160 for the alternator as opposed to the $160 + $400 labor costs I would have to pay. It worked out great
Pretty easy to change an alternator . But changing a water pump is easy but gotta be careful because some water pumps are hooked to the timing chain .
It always amazes me, no matter how well explain and detail your videos are people always downvote. I mean chrisfix has save me a lot of money and I have learn a lot.
Love this channel keep the videos coming!
Uploaded 3 minutes ago... 151 comments. Loyal subs Chris! Awesome work!
My subs are the best on UA-cam!
You are life saver for those can’t really afford these expensive prices for simple things that they throw at you. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻God bless you for teaching other human to learn something that will benefit them and help them save money👏🏻❤️🙏
The best car mechanic youtuber. Chrisfix best 👍
*support chrisfix until ten million subs so he will upload more good and helpful things*
Reason he doesn't post a lot is because he chooses quality over quantity
Solar Vtol yea, I’m totally fine with his upload schedule, it also makes new vids from him exciting to watch haha
The MKBHD of the car scene
DIto Oktavio no need to lick his arse
Jaguar : 1 small belt, some screws and voila!
Porsche : *In your dreams!*
Hey, my car is aircooled, too. But its waaaay cheaper. Check out "Trabant", you would never ever need a tutorial on fixing it...
chrysler voyager puts a large middlefinger on your face.. just to change the waterpump and the timing belt the easiest thing to do is to remove the engine
_Paul Miller Jaguar & Land Rover dealership, want to know your location_
Jeep too. Jeep wanted over $700 to replace my buddies throttle body. For $50 we replaced it easier than this water pump.
@butchtropic I know. I was just adding to the reasons not to go there.
This channel is always so professional and explains things so easily step by step.
