LET'S GOOOOOOOO ✨ So freaking excited! Thanks for all the hard work you do for us, dude. Genuinely. You're very appreciated. I can't wait to watch your channel continue to grow, you absolutely deserve it ~
Hope you enjoy it, I honestly think this might be the best video I've ever made 🙏. I put so much effort into this edit... why it took so long ha. Cheers for the support and the kind words though mate really appreciate it 👍. Hopefully this year I can claw my way up to 10k 😤
@@sharpdressedgoblin I have no doubt you'll get there!! I share your videos all the time & add them to my public video essay playlists. It's not much, but I try lol. It was definitely your best work, it was incredible. I'll be watching it again tomorrow!! Thanks dude :))
I hope so gonna be a lot more hard work but I'll get there 😤. That's awesome everything helps. Excellent glad you enjoyed it makes all the hard work feel worth it 😊
This was a dose of nostalgia injected straight in to my veins. My brother and I have a similar age difference to yours and, like you, I suffered many a beatdown on fighting games (mainly Bloody Roar, Battle Arena Toshinden (which was the first PS1 game I ever owned), Zero Divide and Psychic Force) as he tried to make me git gud. The original Battle Arena Toshinden's soundtrack is S-tier, along with Tekken 3's. Thanks for the welcome trip down memory lane!😃
@sharpdressedgoblin Oh, if I take off my nostalgia glasses, I fully accept that Gaia is cheap, the physics are a mess, half the roster are rubbish (I will have no Duke slander, though!), and the desperation OP moves are ridiculously difficult to pull off. Soundtrack is still a banger, though XD
Don’t know if it has been mentioned yet BUT…you can play as a goblin riding a lizard in the fighting game Chaos Breaker…which hit the Japanese ps3 store under the name Dark Awake: The King has No Name. It has a couple monsters and creatures in the roster and you can unlock a manticore and a dragon as bosses
Fantastic list. Props for remembering that Bloody Roar exists. I was waiting for the Jojo`s Bizarre Adventure fighting game on the PS1 tho, but with how huge that library is, I get it. Great video, goblin!
Could of easily been a 3 hour vid might have finally lost it completely if it was that long 😂. I'll put it on the list for a sequel vid if this vid ever takes off ha.
This is awesome man. You recreated my childhood. It’s crazy to think how fighting games were the games to play. Kinda like how popular first person shooters are now. Now I’m 42 years old. 😅 and street fighter and tekken have never played better. Cheers mate🎉
Fantastic video, I also had an older brother who got me into Fighting Games so it's wild seeing how similar a lot of the games we grew up on were, all that's missing from my collection were Ergeiz and Evil Zone!
Was so close to putting ehrgeiz in but thought I'd have the one squaresoft Fighter definitely in the sequel vid. And I'll add evil zone on the list not played that one.
@@sharpdressedgoblin You really should keep an eye on Evil Zone! It's quite unique and undeservedly forgotten. To start off: Every character has a uniquely told narrative which is narrated by themselves, thus you have 10 different narratives being told, sometimes not even taking themselves overly seriously. The VA for every character is quite solid and definitly on the higher end for the PS1 era. Alot of special moves have different camera angles so that they don't repeat themselves too often, and also some special moves, once repeated, get shortened in the fight: If a special move would take around say 5-7 seconds to be performed the first time it gets shortened the second time to say 3 seconds. Every character has one if not two alternate outfits to unlock, every character can become the announcer (tho that one takes a while to unlock depending on the character, as they have to be played from say 30 to 70 times, with played I mean having done battles, so one story playthrough of like 10 fights makes that quickly unlocked comparatively), every move, entity or place in this game's universe has a lore entry which could have been used for an RPG I'd say AND the game has one of the most satisfying and quite unique even 100% unlocks where the VA basically has a talk with you about something that sadly seemed to be only going on in the japanese scene. There's also quite some hinting about a sequel but the game, assumingly, didn't sell too well for that OR Yuke's just wanted to get into their WWE type games and luckily Evil Zone is not like that controlwise, but.. it's unique about that too, like it could be controversial but I find it refreshing also because it makes learning a character breezy that way. Oh and the PAL and JP version has the original age listing and clothes for the characters mentioned ingame and in the manual. Just the japanese opening track, Kiss in the Dark, has been replaced with a really shitty non fitting to the visuals nor its timing music track, Lie Rainwell during his story mode has a different music track playing whyever and I think that's all in terms of differences. Do take your time with this game, you will NOT regret it to play through the campaign of each character, including the final boss. It also has some darker themes going on at times, so keep that in mind.
Great job bro, personally n3ver been the biggest fan of any fighting games besides smash and the aforementioned Battle Arena Toshinden 2 but i really enjoyed this.
Destrega.... How the... That's... That's spot on. I got it in a demo disc, never owned the full game, can never remember the name, the fighting system is exactly why I remember it...
Man, bloody roar, now that is a memorable idea So much so i still remember Every time i playd it. At the time me, my little brother, friend and ocusing go to Nit's how And adult guy with 4 ps, where got a room set up for the kids to play and rented the other 2 Yes, we did go to a shady guy's house to rent and play playstation games for hours. And let me tell you, played most of the game here and the ps2 version, but always remember bloody roar and another one, a beat them up 3D, where we usually playd a thin guy and a massive dude, where you fight the MiB, smash soda mashines and throw your enemies around.
King chain throws always anger my dad and Zangief’s grabs always anger my cousins. Did you also know that Triceratops can impale a T.Rex? Fun video BTW.
Wow! I definitely want a video sequel now! The PS1 era was hard on us Dragon Ball fans. We only got 3 Japan only titles and two of those are mentioned in this vid. There was a popular cheat in Final Bout where you can immediately unlock Goku's Super Saiyan 4 form. That was all that I can remember since most of the roster were blond dudes! It badly needed variety for sure.
@@sharpdressedgoblin I’ve read it digitally Thru manga sites but having physical copies would be nice (if I had the space for manga in the first place…)
Tekken 3 is the only one I played directly (via emulation on an arcade style machine at my college, but still), and it was quite the blast. Mainly played Anna (I like the slap move), Lei, and Yoshimitsu (I beaten the arcade mode with the last 2). I'm mainly into fighting games for the desings even if I do like the gameplay too.. The only good grace of GT Final Bout is the ost (mainly the Intro theme). For part 2 I propose: -The Original Guilty Gear (even if it's available legally on modern systems, it still counts) -Other Kronos (the people who made Cardinal Syn) games for a laugh like Criticom -The Unholy War/ Little Witch Mischief (even if they're more strategy games who happen to have arena duels like Destrega)
Not that much of a fighting game fan, but I remember playing Tekken 3 a lot back in the day and liking it. I also have Dragon Ball Final Bout and yeah, it is not good. 😅 I saw your video of Destrega on the other channel a couple of years ago and I found it very interesting. Maybe one day I will try it. Anyway, great video as always. 😄
Honestly, I'm just surprised that this is one of the rare instances where a PS1 fighting game retrospective somehow didn't mention the first Guilty Gear title. To be fair, it was a fairly late release from 1998 and it's possible some territories didn't even receive it until later on along with later entries in the series. Still, if you did do a sequel to this, a shout-out to Guilty Gear: The Missing Link and Ergheiz would be neat to include.
Was saving it for the sequel vid... which probably will never happen ha. Love the first guilty gear had it back in the day when it got a budget re release banger
This video made me realize were arounthe same age 😂 Fun fact if you play a number of vs battles, i think 50 or something you unlcok doctor b in tekken 3
Yeah that's true I remember my friend telling me about a certain port of Mortal Kombat 2 where the ai was borderline impossible. Think it was input reading to a ludicrous degree or something.
I haven't watched the full video yet, but when I scrub over it, all I see is memes. Memes everywhere. I would honeslty recommend you to reduce that to a minimum so we could enjoy more the games themselves without being interrupted by something irrelevant.
