Man the nostalgia I have for these games. Religiously playing them back to back back in the early 2000s with the halo games, while me and my mates were collecting bionicle, yu-go-oh, bayblade, while watching robot wars the the prequel Star Wars trilogy. I was introduced to the series with Future Perfect at a friends house who had an Xbox and his other friend came to visit with a copy of it. Let's just say after 36 hours of not sleeping while wrapping up the SP and Coop and playing endless deathmatch and challenges, we eventually took "shifts" as one of us would stay up making levels for the others to play when they woke. I loved it so much it was one of the first games I bought when I picked up my own Xbox. The humor and animation, as a fan of humor and 3d animation, were perfectly tailored to me and what I valued in a video game. The insane amount of shit to do in the game only helped solidify it, and the packed in level editor made the whole disc one hell of a value proposition for the dollar. I've never really played the 2nd and 1st, honestly Future Perfect spoiled me so much it's hard to even watch footage of the first two. I was so excited for a new TimeSplitters after Haze. So unfortunate what happened.. and all efforts to try and do something with the franchise falling through with tease after tease hasn't exactly been fun to sit through either.
3 miight be my favorite but 2 is SPECIAL. Controls are a bit more clunky (there is a way to play with mouse and KB using dolphin emulator and mouse injector) and the crosshairs aren’t on screen full time, but I highly recommend playing 2. You will appreciate 3 even more afterwards

One of the best games ive ever played, this was literally my childhood, holy shit such great series.... so sad they never got a remake or a sequel..... one of the absolute best game series to ever be made without a doubt.
I didn't mind the stealth section in Neo Tokyo because it reminded me of Metal Gear Solid. I also loved the Blade Runner feel. I personally loved Atom Smasher because it made me want to optimize my strategy of getting through fast.
No series can compare to the EXTREMELY FUN gameplay, AMAZING story & music, insane variety amount of characters, the absolute wackiness and craziness, and the absolute perfection of Timesplitters.. I grew up on this series and it seriously is the most fun games I’ve ever played !!! Not to Mention laugh out loud hilarious, there is so much heart and soul put into the Timesplitters games and it hurts so much how free radical has went through so much crap.
Great video mate. You've come a long way from 2018. I still cringe when I think of that dance skit sequence I took part in, but it was funny at the time! I was never a huge fan of the genre, but I've been enjoying fps games a lot more lately. It could be cause this is my 40th year, maybe my tastes have changed somewhat. I just purchased the Turok remasters on a sale and it's prompted me to go and play the lot, including the GB versions which are a lot better than I remember. I'm also revisiting Doom as I more or less missed out on the whole legendary franchise. Timesplitters 2 and 3 are getting a play through next I rekon, thanks to this fantastic video. Bring on the FPS!
Cheers brother, about time you finally gave the ole splitters a go ✊. That scene was cringe but your bit was definitely the funniest and brought it together ha.
@@retrobution1262 i love that whole video and that style of humor. i havent got round to finishing this one, halfway thru it, but this and jake's other new stuff are also very good but i just love that old style of humor because it's charming and sort of Austin Powers-like in being a bit rude, a bit crass but it's incredibly facetious so it's likeable
Playing Future Perfect first probably helped me get over some pet peeves. For instance, I always liked the first level and its guns were among my favorites in the game.
I can. And do. I am probably the only exception, though. While I can play Turok on the N64 with the original controller and set up, I can't be bothered to learn to play FPS's with a modern control scheme. The feeling is just so off to me. Lol! Great video, man.
just a heads up, the neotokyo level has an incredibly easy way to skip like 90% of the stealth section, you just go past the lady you're supposed to be following and hide in this one spot at the entrance to the sewers then wait for her to walk past you and follow her inside.
I grow up playing TimeSplitters 2 in my PS2 console and was so enjoyable to play this franchise. Its good to know FRD is back to make a new TS Game, I hope they can keep the essence from the previous games into modern audience.
I heard their back, but are they making a new Timesplitters or just a remake of Timesplitters 2? You'd think they'd start by making HD Remasters for the trilogy.
I played TS1 when I got my PS2, then picked up TS2 when that came out, and finally I picked up TSFP when that came out, and played the hell out of them all. Being a Super Fast-Paced Arcade Boomer Shooter type of guy (and also an Arcade Light Gun Rail Shooter type of guy), it was great growing up with Rare/Free Radical Design games, such as Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and TimeSplitters 1, 2, and 3. My favorite of their games is actually TS1. The reason why is because it played like a super fast 1990s style FPS game (similar to the speed of Quake 3: Arena or Unreal Tournament), and the goal of the developers (Free Radical Design) was to build the fastest FPS game ever made, which eventually became TimeSplitters 1. So, since I'm all about the gameplay, I prefer TS1 over all their other games because its the quickest and most fast-paced FPS game that they ever made. So, TS1 is my favorite game from them, and in my opinion, the best game they ever made.
I didn't play to much of this series, but I liked what I did play. The shooter game I loved when I was younger was Metal Arms. Have you ever played that one? I think you'd get a kick out of it.
Planet X in TS2 was easily one of my favorite missions, but certainly Siberia was IT. I also hated Neo Tokyo to begin with but eventually loved playing it, the atmosphere is like no other. Fantastic music, visuals, and sound effects. Also the shimmering road was beyond impressive to me graphically back then (GC version, this was before always-wet NFSU launched lol)
Once I figured out where she goes on Neo Tokyo I started just hiding and waiting til she got near there before following and it always worked well. Gave me time to appreciate the ambiance and collect weapons from the windows
Yeah I do love the vibe of that level the rain and the music make it kinda chill. The design team for Free Radical did such a great job back in the day the levels all look so striking.
If only I knew that this series was a trilogy and not a duology. So I played the 3rd first thinking it was the first. So now the way I'm playing is 3rd, 1st, then 2nd
I gotta say this is a very good retrospective. I just wanted to add that I never had trouble with the first Timesplitters. In fact, hearing that you died a lot or that a majority of people have is very surprising to me. As far as FPS' go, it was the easiest one I ever played. I assumed this was the case for most players. Guess I was wrong. 🤷
Never completed Timesplitters 2 because I never got past the Neo-Tokyo level haha. Future Perfect I played constantly one of the few games I actually completed on hard as a teen back in the day
I somehow enjoyed the first game. It was extremely simple, but because it was short and dickish, I guess it stood out amongst other console FPS titles. Cool video.
Nice, thanks! I'm still playing the $#!& out of TS2 & TSFP (mostly splitscreen on series x) but recently been hacking TSFP mapmaker to find hidden NPCs ... still fun and finding new stuff almost 20years later! Fantastic games.
the only way i can play this game nowadays is through emulation. I would love to be apart of a community where we netplay the multiplayer together. Great content, though. I really appreciate the relaxed video essays without a bunch of loud memes being tossed on screen.
Really can't say much for Timesplitters 1, but I put a bunch of time into Timesplitters 2 on PS2. I hope it and Timesplitters Future Perfect can be remastered for both current consoles and pc. I'm pretty burned out with most indie FPS games being based off Doom/Quake game design. I'd like to see the objective based design of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, or Timesplitters return. Plus, they often had great shot reactions and death animations for enemies.
Honestly Timesplitters 2 is goat material. I loved Future Perfect as well but there was something about the second game that was too good! I wont lie I only just 100% completed Timesplitters 2 last year on ps2 and I tell you what, unlocking every character, level and gamemode through the arcade leauge had me wanting to smash my balls with a hammer. But lucky enough it didn't ever get to that stage hahaha
I was nuts about future perfect and I never knew it was a series until I was in my 20s lol and now I'm sad I missed out of the other games and there's no way to buy the games on modern console
You mention in the video multiple times that the series is done, so I assume you're unaware that Deep Silver reformed Free Radical under Steve Ellis and David Doak and have greenlit a new TimeSplitters entry which began development in 2021. With the gaming industry being... well, what it is, I try not to get my hopes up, buuuut... At any rate, glad to see someone who agrees that TS:FP is the series' peak. TS2 is excellent, but FP is just the superior overall package. With that said, my feelings on the approach to the story are complex. What FP does works and damn well for that matter, it's a thoroughly entertaining experience throughout and is incredibly consistent and well paced. It does a far better job of executing a narrative than 2 ever could. With all that said however, TS2's story mode had the beginnings of something special in it's game design where the levels wound up feeling like something vaguely resembling a sandbox or the beginnings of an immersive sim. The wide array of objectives and expanded levels on higher difficulties was very neat, and the story stayed mostly out of the way of the gameplay which allowed many of the games levels to achieve this fantastic atmosphere and degree of immersion that FP just couldn't hold a candle to. TS2 didn't realize the potential of this design, it didn't even come close, but the foundations were absolutely there and for the upcoming game, it is my hope they take TS2's format and iterate on it. Done right, I think the results could be downright incredible.
I've been hearing about this since I made the timesplitters vid on my old channel 5 years ago ha. So at this point I'll believe it when I see it. Would be cool to see it come back just hope it isn't bad 😬. Yeah I would love to see that a bit more of a back to basics timesplitters would be nice. Imagine a whole game of stages as good as Siberia Dam would be immense.

Yes!!! Awesome video!! I love Timesplitters. Its a shame not many people know about it these days.
Cheers mate I appreciate it, it's a shame timesplitters wasn't a bigger hit than it was
I still say Timesplitters is one of the most underrated games. I played the first one so much back in the day.
Not to
Mention laugh out loud hilarious, there is so much heart and soul put into the Timesplitters games and it hurts so much how free radical has went through so much crap.
Bring on the FPS!
i loved that sequence lol
@@maydaymemer4660 Haha. I'm glad it brought a smile!
Cheers brother, about time you finally gave the ole splitters a go ✊. That scene was cringe but your bit was definitely the funniest and brought it together ha.
@@sharpdressedgoblin Yeah definitely! Ah hahaha, I'm glad lol
Great retrospective video. I am going through all kind of TS content to ease the pain
Where is the clip of “I have no strength left. Let this end or let me die” from?
13:00
That's from a UA-cam channel called Clint's reptiles he's like the bob ross of animal related content ha
Love the deepdives mate top quality as always
Playing Future Perfect first probably helped me get over some pet peeves. For instance, I always liked the first level and its guns were among my favorites in the game.
Thanks for this video. Brings back fond memories and nostalgia. Got Future Perfect downloading, why not 👍
21:50 they grow up so fast
Timesplitters 123 is coming to ps plus next week on Tuesday
I can. And do. I am probably the only exception, though. While I can play Turok on the N64 with the original controller and set up, I can't be bothered to learn to play FPS's with a modern control scheme. The feeling is just so off to me. Lol! Great video, man.
It's in the Ps+ Classic Catalogue guys!
The goblin is back.
When the goblin turns in, I simply shut up and watch.
Great editing mate keep up the good work
Cheers mate appreciate it ✊
Mapmaker is life.
How many maps did you actually design
@@chabbab6698 looks like roughly 120 single-player affairs (got no mates). I pretty much record everything.
just a heads up, the neotokyo level has an incredibly easy way to skip like 90% of the stealth section, you just go past the lady you're supposed to be following and hide in this one spot at the entrance to the sewers then wait for her to walk past you and follow her inside.
I’m not the only one 😅
I still play these fabulous games. And quote them on a daily
I grow up playing TimeSplitters 2 in my PS2 console and was so enjoyable to play this franchise. Its good to know FRD is back to make a new TS Game, I hope they can keep the essence from the previous games into modern audience.
Hope so but I've been hearing it's coming back since I made the old video ha.
I heard their back, but are they making a new Timesplitters or just a remake of Timesplitters 2?
You'd think they'd start by making HD Remasters for the trilogy.
FRD shut down again.
@@Gruntvcthey were shut down again
Well done mate, great video this
Cheers mate appreciate it 🙏
God I loved these games when I was a kid, the monsters in future perfect scared the shit out of me.
I loved playing the kill mode with my friends
Did not expect to see a random Lolo clip pop up in a timesplitter retrospective lol
Hell yeah, Jake with the midweek upload!
I need to figure out how to play my old PS2 discs on my PC, cause I have such an URGE to replay TS2 and TS FP again!
I didn't play to much of this series, but I liked what I did play. The shooter game I loved when I was younger was Metal Arms. Have you ever played that one? I think you'd get a kick out of it.
Oh yeah I played the hell outta Metal Arns that's definitely one I need to do at some point
They got to bring timesplitters back
Great video, loved this game! I recommend Deus Ex the original think you'd enjoy it and would make a sick video.
I'm also left handed, I play mouse on right hand, it is a permanent disadvantage, but it's too ingrained to correct my hands
I'm like that with a few things like I play tennis with my right hand but use scissors with my left
No leftie I know uses the mouse with their left hand, wtf...
No commentary on the level editor? I spent HOURS as a kid making impossible levels with as many enemies as I could put in it and then try to survive.
If only I knew that this series was a trilogy and not a duology. So I played the 3rd first thinking it was the first. So now the way I'm playing is 3rd, 1st, then 2nd
a lot of memories...
You're just that good ha
Future perfect is loaded in my Xbox rn and I’m grinding to 100% it, then back to 2 to keep the grind going,
Hell yeah, always wanted to do that myself... might honestly make for a good video
I only just managed to sneak the tipper level on Future Perfect last week. Lmao.
Never completed Timesplitters 2 because I never got past the Neo-Tokyo level haha. Future Perfect I played constantly one of the few games I actually completed on hard as a teen back in the day
Yeah same I played my copy of future perfect to death pretty sure me and my best mate 100%'d it.
lmfao the Snow shoutout was so random
Can we get these 3 games remastered or a different trilogy from the same company
This British humor hits so well for the editing of this video Yooo lolol
🙏👁🙏
Lore of Timesplitters Series Retrospective momentum 100
Love timesplitters 1
Nice vid man
wish they ported the first one on the box og, only own 2 and future perfection
the only way i can play this game nowadays is through emulation. I would love to be apart of a community where we netplay the multiplayer together. Great content, though. I really appreciate the relaxed video essays without a bunch of loud memes being tossed on screen.
Now that would be amazing can't beat timesplitters multiplayer
Really can't say much for Timesplitters 1, but I put a bunch of time into Timesplitters 2 on PS2. I hope it and Timesplitters Future Perfect can be remastered for both current consoles and pc.
I'm pretty burned out with most indie FPS games being based off Doom/Quake game design. I'd like to see the objective based design of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, or Timesplitters return. Plus, they often had great shot reactions and death animations for enemies.
ah shit i promised to caption the original vid once you uploaded this lol. i'll get to it eventually and put it as an edit!
How much to bring back the afro
Honestly Timesplitters 2 is goat material. I loved Future Perfect as well but there was something about the second game that was too good!
I wont lie I only just 100% completed Timesplitters 2 last year on ps2 and I tell you what, unlocking every character, level and gamemode through the arcade leauge had me wanting to smash my balls with a hammer. But lucky enough it didn't ever get to that stage hahaha
I still instinctively piss my pants at hearing "THE MOOSE IS LOOSE"
2:32 lmao
cant believe Siberia had the most dev time. It feels like the story maps just get better and better until robot factory.
Great video
Cheers mate 👍
They should make a movie about timesplitters 2 or future perfect , I’d pick van diesel or the rock to play Cortez .
Never played. Wish i had looks fun
