Hey, great video! Always like to see what people are doing on their layout! If I haven’t told you yet, you have a great layout. It is super the detail people are putting into their layouts, and yours is one of them! I just wanted to tell you that my favorite CR/PC box car has to be the X72, built by Evans Products. I’ve seen these fairly often in the ‘70’s through the ‘90’s! I saw a few of these interchanged to ICG in my home town of Chenoa, IL. If memory serves me correctly, they were loaded with lube oil. Great video Steve, yeah those 89ft Boxcars suck up a lot of space, I have a ton of those Walters cars I find cheap at the train show in Indianapolis every year, same with an Autorack train!!! I've collected so much equipment in Conrail over the last 40 years but my Wife and I bought our current home 8 years ago and I only have a 15x10 space in my basement so now I'm collecting Conrail equipment in N Scale, I think I can do a nice mid 80s Rep of Conrail in that space!!!!
I love the 86ft boxcars and autoracks but just can't justify the space to keep them out. Hopefully a future version of the layout will solve that problem. Alot can be done in a 15x10 space especially in N scale!
@ConrailSteve Yes it would be awesome if we could be blessed With a massive basement, I love my HO equipment but I finally come to terms with a 15x10 space, to run the Prototype trains Conrail ran on the DOW line I'll have to do it in N!!! BUMMER!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Steve! Great video! Hey I have an idea about f you don’t mind? Do you remember the movie The Outsiders? Was thinking with one of the cars with the open doors maybe you could hide a couple figures of teenage boys who snuck aboard going for a ride. Maybe a figure in a suit sitting at the door representing someone from the railroad head office out to see how things are going operation wise?? Maybe it’s not prototypical but it’d add at least something extra for folks looking at the car as it rolls by. Use the figure or figures to tell a story about the railroad and what’s happening?? Love your layout and the videos!!! Have a great day!!
Thank You! I plan on adding more people to the layout overall as I find more figures I like. The main hold up thus far has been finding figures that fit the scenes and look right. I definitely would like to add someone riding in one of the boxcars at some point.
Hey Steve! Another great selection of awesome rolling stock! I have a question, what paint is closest match to Conrail blue? I got some A-line brass sunshades for my SD38, and need to paint one of them the right color to match the locomotive…
When I compared my paint samples to the paint on the Athearn SD38 Scalecoat 2 Conrail blue is the closest match altho its no longer made and hard to find. Badger Modelflex Conrail Blue and True color Conrail Blue both seemed to be a bit greenish blue compared to the Athearn but would work and could be hidden easily with some weathering.
