    I enjoy watching your videos whatever way you produce them. If they become a bit long, I simply watch them at my convenience when I have free time. I'm amazed at the progress you make with the limited amount of time you have for the hobby!

    Howdy Steve! I'm new at this hobby and have little to no confidence with weathering, custom builds, etc, so I'm a fan of the series format - seem to get more detail that way. You know... its the old dog new trick thing 😁 Really enjoy your videos and I'm looking forward to working my way through some of your older how-to vids. Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠

      Thank you! Im still working on my editing but hope to have a middle ground where things are sped up but still show the finer details when necessary. Everything I know I have learned from watching others here on UA-cam and all it takes is the time and practice to learn and grow.

    hi steve..as usual, great video !!! being retired and in the hobby well over 55 years, i would say that any format changes/upgrades do not really matter as much as content, aka subject matter, which you are very good at giving us. therefore, my suggestion would be to keep things as simple and concise as they are at this time, and maybe just keep taking viewers questions/ideas and going on from there...kind of free lanced yet still giving us great "training" videos. i have had several internationally famous professors in my college days at u of bflo ( dr milo gibaldi and dr gerhard levy ) that had that very special ability to explain/teach clearly and concisely.... you give us that clarity which is really nice ... i wouldn't change a thing, steve !!! there is a ton of comfort in keeping things simple !!!

    Hi Steve-I think the speeded up build videos are better for those with limited viewing time.We can always ask questions afterwards for any clarification or additional information

    • @ConrailSteve

    Your videos are awesome Steve. Great progress
    I had to replace track too lol. I say do individual videos like just number boards, just marker lights, decoder install, paint and decal. That way it gives a library to ho back to for a variety of projects. It will narrow down the search for viewers rather than scrolling through one video. Plus more views and more content.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому

    Steve, my vote would be for the LMS build. I think more viewers probably own those Atlas (I’m assuming it’s Atlas) Dash 8’s and would get a lot out of a detail video. As far as the video format, I’d watch either way but I do enjoy your sped up videos with commentary. Thank you for the channel!!!!

    Nice update. Again, I can't imagine a layout that represents the Ohio valley without any bridges. That scene immediately screams that area. I would put the Ohio river under those nicely weathered bridges and call it a day. However, in your planning you have to decide what will make you happy. Decide what you might do that can be easily modified later if you become unhappy with any new modifications. As far as build videos, maybe narrow the focus of what you want us to see and concentrate on that. For instance, if it's a reconstruction of a model you may be able to condense that into one video. However, if it is an entire transformation that you want us to see, you can divide it into parts leaving the viewer excited about the end product. I've seen some content creators make one long video and they get the views because they have set a precedent of incredible work. Their fan base will watch anything they put out no matter how short or long it is. Continue to develop your style and consider what you like to see on other channels. Congrats on the subs, well deserved. My apologies for the dissertation.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you! I still am undecided on the bridge scene I may end up keeping it and redoing the area underneath some and maybe reworking another location on the layout. I appreciate the feedback on the build videos as well and will definitely use it going forward.

    I'd keep the new track work on the connection the way it is. It gives your lay out a real life work look. It looks like the railroad just repaired and reballasted that section of track. give your layout a realistic look that not all segments are going to be old and worn.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому

      Great point on keeping the track looking rather new! I will defiantly try to keep it that way.

    Ouch! That's some nasty weathering on that Q&NE box car!

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому

      It's had a rough life by the 90's and is defiantly due for a fresh Q&NE repaint! I went with opposites with the two cars I picked up. While the one in this video is worn and faded the other is perfect and fresh looking. Hope to have them both in a train in the next month!

    Also a very cool thing to do to the welded rail cars is actually make a welded rail load for each rack will there a video on how you built them ?

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому +1

      Someday when I build a new version of the layout I plan to add the welded rail loads but for now I want to keep these simple as they will have to be packed away and moved eventually. I may make a video building these car but will need to get one more donor flat car to build with first.

    Question: Did you get the ScaleTrains GP30 recently and if so, do you / will you make a video about it?

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому

      I did not get any of the GP30’s as they all were retired by my 97 to 99 era. If they would have fit in my era I would have picked them up as I have yet to be let down by ScaleTrains.

    How long did it take you to build the slugs? How much would you charge to build?. I have always wanted one since I worked at Conrail's Buckeye Hump yard.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому +1

      The slug builds took right on 2 months working on them on Friday and Saturdays as those are my days off work for the week. As much as I would love to build one for you as well as others that have asked in the past I just don't have the time. I currently have my own projects planned out for the rest of this year and have limited time each week. I will be putting out a how-to video on the entire MT-6 slug build showing from start to finish the entire process using a shell from Pacific Northwest Resins so that anyone that wants to build one can see how it is done. That is neat that you worked at Buckeye and is a shame what has become of it now. I plan to down the road build the 6946 - 1122 set from Buckeye for myself eventually.

    • @jasonspicer2598

      @@ConrailSteve I understand the whole time thing. 2 days off a week to maintain the everyday stuff cuts into the hobby side of things. I will keep searching for some slugs and look forward to your video on how to build. I could probably build the slug, I am just not good at the paint detailing.
