    steve... great butcherin' job !!! looks fantastic and brings back many cr/crq memories like this one... i remember seeing many, many cr engines/trains here in western ny state ( right next to lake erie) that were just totally beat up to the point of delapitation. at the time i modeled cr and, prototypically speaking, remember thinking " how could a rr be so shi--y, it will totally be gone soon" ... well, as i am sure you know, most everything made it to csx or ns, but the "pleasant" memories i have of beat-up cr equipment really comes back to life with your artistry !!! as well, i also remember seeing really nice cr engines freshly painted in the beautiful crq livery and thinking "wow, beautiful... there IS hope for cr/crq" !!! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, STEVE !!

      Thank you!! It was crazy how dirty alot of the locomotives got in the 98 to 99 time frame especially all of the local and yard power! Only locomotives I remember looking clean were ones that were freshly repainted. Glad I could help bring back the memories!!

    I love your loco fleet !! Your weathering is outstanding ( rolling stock also ) , the locos have that ridden hard, put away wet look which is uber realistic 👍🏼👍🏼

    I recently embarked on an interesting project. I bought a pair of Family Lines GP38s at Railroad Days. One of them is ex-L&N, and Proto actually went to the trouble of correctly depicting it with both the headlight in the nose and the gyralight in the cab. . .but it is the CSX that I'm modeling, so I'm in the process of removing and "plating over" the gyralight.
    I have also purchased another CR GP38-2 to go with the 8045 (the one I already own), an Oakway Leasing SD60 to pair up with my BN SD40-2 for "ELBN/BNEL", and a CR SD70 which will eventually be teamed up with either my C39 or my Norfolk Southern SD70.

      CSX units always make for an interesting build and are great to add some variety to everything! One of these days I need to build an Oakway leasing unit for my railroad as well. Sounds like you have some neat power to work on!

      To be honest, despite my username, I've been getting into early CSX quite a bit, and my CSX power outnumbers everything else. I've even pre-ordered a pair of the recently announced Genesis series SD50s from Athearn-, mostly because I wanted to have some freshly painted YN2 units in my collection. From time to time, I've questioned whether I should've gone with the former L&N Henderson Subdivision in Southern Indiana instead, but I'm too passionately committed to Northwest Indiana to switch now.
      But I love Early CSX just for all the weird lash-ups that would turn up, with all that odd ball power from the Seaboard System. Throw in some GECX (ex-ATSF) C30-7s and freshly painted power that was purchased new by CSX, and any day is a good day for train watching.
      Part of the motivation for me picking the Chicago Line was all the run throughs that were going to and from Elkhart, and all the interesting foreign power lash-ups that resulted from it. I love late '80s/early '90s BN and Santa Fe, so this is a great compromise for me as I can realistically work them into my collection and have a legitimate reason for having them.
      My Oakway SD60 has been sent to a friend of mine to get DCC and Sound. Not long now. I almost bought a BN SD60M at the show too, but all the ones I saw were in rough shape. . .and I'm regretting not picking one up.

    You made that look easy. We'll done. I use a 3v button battery to determine polarity for my LEDs. Just a tip in case you get a different supplier. Cheers

      Thank you! I have one of those battery powered LED testers to check the color of them. I have had issues in the past with “warm white” leds actually being more of a blueish color.

    Hi Steve,How did you put the doors back on the cab as you didnt show and short changed your video ?

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  Місяць тому

      I always manage to lose something between filming with the camera and actually getting the footage on my laptop to edit 🤦‍♂️😂. The cab doors are held on with Canopy glue as it dries clear and is not very noticeable. I used al little on each of the hinges on the door frame as well as a little on the bottom of the door.

    I don't like changing the new look of the engine or cars. It makes them look cheap and takes away its natural beauty, however I do enjoy your videos and expertise!

      Cheap? Or, real? Depends upon the hobbyist’s skills n this guy is definitely bordering on master level, imo. But, some goop it on n it can look poor…

      We all like different styles when it comes to how we make our model railroads look. I appreciate that even though my weathering may not be your style you still watch and enjoy my videos!
