That's what gaining experience is. and what fainting is. They gotta recharge their magic. For actual food, they eat berries. Every pokemon has a favorite berry. Pokemon food pellets like in the anime are just mass produced mini poke puffs with different berry flavor profiles for each bag. You can even see the various colored labels for these flavors on shelves at poke marts.

Watch closely with how Ash reacts to goh's birds flying over his wurmple. And how Ash says this is a concern, when them doing regular battles was not. Literally EVERY CANNON says that pokemon eat each other. The battle experience you're talking about is how pokemon get stronger, but they do still need actual food. Oh, bonus points? The area that has no berries at all, is also the region where everything is a poison type.
I'm pretty sure the jaws on the back of Mawile's head aren't an actual mouth, just modified horns, so it couldn't use them to eat a person. Chewing them to pieces and then eating that with the front-mouth *is* an option, though.

That already exists in the anime, primarily used by sea-faring pirates. Both to launch empty pokeballs at something, and to send your own pokemon at a higher range than your throwing arm can manage.
Honestly that Pokemon is cute but at the end of the day I do like battling and catching those types of pokemon all the same. Also great job on the animation everything was just perfect 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
i remember seeing May doing the same thing with manchlux and even though the Pball was in its mouth after she threw it , manchlux entered the Pball ... so.. its still counts as a good throw

oh man the title felt real. When I caught my chompers it was a bloody struggle. I had wasted like 5 or 6 ultraballs when I gave up and said ef it if this doesn't catch as well I'mma kill it. Then it got caught to a great ball. Still she is one of my most favourite pokemons up to date. I transfer her to the new games whenever I can.
Its head seems to be built like a crocodile's jaw. One thing I know about crocs is that their mouth is built to deliver force when closing, but they face few problems that would require good opening force. Thus, the way to incapacitate this Pokemon is with duct-tape and some guts.
Sure you can battle them, but catching alphas with a heavy ball and skipping the battle entirely feels like such a flex.

There is only two reasons to not try and battle it for catching and that is to either save time during outbreaks or to complete tasks.
