Captain America: First Avenger and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are two vert similar movies. They each follow a superhero through a world war and set up an entire franchise. But we believe there is one scene that really separate why one of the movies set up one of the MCU's most loved franchises, and the other needed to be retconned by Deadpool.

Hey screencrush are you going to do a X men origins Wolverine rewrite
I wish Ryan Arey was a screenwriter for a superhero film. His rewrites are always amazing
Oh….because strategizing how you’d do WWII differently is a reeeaaallll good idea….
Wolverine’s transformation scene is the best hand down. Him raging out the water is, one of, his most iconic shots.
Underrated moment from the first Cap movie: Peggy also went for the grenade.
That's the proof that she's worthy to be cap too
@@DarkVador1138 , and perhaps worthy of something else, too
@@colleenross8752 that would have been badass
I know many people don't like it, but I've always liked X-men Origins: Wolverine. The movie has its problems, but overall its a good watch to me.
Same. Besides the bad cgi I liked it
First comment X -men origins scene where wolverine was fighting all of the wars was the best part of the movie
True, I hope the MCU does something similar.
Why label it first comment. Do you have a second one?
@@jasonwagner4266because he obviously got the first comment in
The very beginning of the movie lmao
Not the first comment lol
We already knew wolverine. We'd already had 3 movies with him. Because we had already gotten him, I feel like they didn't think they needed to develop his character. It was a mistake. This was our first Captain America movie. I wonder how different things would have been if X-men started with a wolverine movie.
Exactly 💯 💯 💯
I freaking love the first cap movie. The character development is so good! It makes you fall in love with steve rogers, whereas I feel like catws (my fav mcu movie) makes you fall in love with captain america.
Xmen Wolverine Origins : The Game was amazing
Captain America: Super Soldier was amazing as well
At least in the gaming department both delivered
The game for Origins was fantastic. I had completely forgotten about it!
I love that Steve Rogers in the end was able to go back and have the life that he deserved.
Hopefully Disney/Marvel doesn't retcon that perfect ending. I hope they can resist reaching back into that honey pot lol
I guess the TVA allowed it...
@@isaac.anthonyno I allowed it
@@thanos8914You're not Kang
Or did he…….?
I feel that they had to cram more of Captain America in because it was the first time really seeing that character where we had seen wolverine in other movies and knew somewhat of what to expect from him
exactly...he was not widely loved imo. I didn't watch it until much later and was upset with how good it was.
X-Men Origins was a great movie, hands down no matter how you flip it
7:24- that’s why in avengers he compares himself to stark saying he wouldn’t be the one to lay on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you
Fun fact: The Weapon X program (Wolverine) is part of an overall program called Weapons Plus. Captain America was designated as Weapon 1. Weapon X was another attempt to recreate the super soldier serum.
Captain America: The First Avenger is easily in my top 3 MCU movies.
🎶 “the FuuNnnIieEsSTt death I’ve eeeevvvVvEEr SeeeeEeN” 🎶 that killed me!! 🤣🤣👏🏽
What did you think of X-Men: Origins?
Tbh i enjoyed it more than The Wolverine
I rly enjoyed it since it was the first X-men movie I ever saw but thought it was weird that Deadpool became Baraka
Do "From" next.
Do The Giggle
More generally, are you going to do all of new Who on Disney+?
I've always hated biopics (even the ones with Benedict Cumberbatch) and now I know why I hated this movie, too.
I always wish the MCU had started with Captain America, and we got a 2nd film in WWII that ends with Capsicle instead of Iron Man 2. Doing the entire WWII story in one film speed through some really good story potential.
seeing this I can't stop thinking of how good a wolverine movie would have been if they made it like Rurouni Kenshin's origin story. The story of a boy that suffered trauma at a very young age and was trained to be the best fighter in the world. He goes through the training to be strong enough to protect others but in doing so traps himself in a cycle of death and endless fights. He must fight because he is the strongest but he hates himself for killing others until he meets a woman that slowly becomes the "sheath of his blade" and learns to value life again. Long story short the girl dies protecting him and he swears on her grave that he'll never kill again. but will always fight to protect the weak. Later in life he struggles to keep the legendary assassin warrior in check when fighting enemies and always tries to avoid fighting as every fight is a chance for him to lose control and become a killer again. Look it up if you haven't seen it its a master piece
Ryan dragging Bohemian Rhapsody is perfect.
I never understood why people didn't like X-Men Origins.
People people have their own opinions. I found interstellar and dune boring asf but people love them. People hate the transformes movies but i love them. If you like a movie don’t let nobody opinions change your Mind
I think some of its story was convoluted and did some characters a disservice. Wolverine vs hulk had a much better introduction to Deadpool whereas origins turned him into a silent laser eye Frankenstein. Also having his wife fake her death only to die for real afterwards for a cheap "I manipulated you, but still loved you" kind of message being ham fisted in at the end wasn't too effective to me. Still, the action they showed off was amazing and I appreciate them throwing sabertooth in there even if he was reconned into devolving overtime. Most of the marvel movies have good continuity that served its ongoing stories while fox throws it out the window depending on what they felt was more desirable at that moment.
I’m always in awe when I watch Chris Evans’s face in the small body!
I'm always in awe when I see Evans shirtless. Or with a shirt on. Or in a cable knit sweater.
🤣@@sylviatamieanan4088
At 8:03 Ryan says "a hero is more than just their powers". I am going to buy SC merch right now because of that one comment. If Marvel understood that one simple statement, they would be in vastly better shape than they are now. Thank you, Ryan.
About 2 minutes in I just simply said “the grenade scene” out loud to my cat who, not unlike Doug, can talk. He looked at me with his steely green eyes and said, “yep”.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a good film but it was marked with controversy from the get go. I was in high school when the leaked version with unfinished CGI and the wire effects still in, was released online. So everyone saw the film, finished but not fully polished, ahead of time. Then to compensate, they rushed the CGI in to try to release it to make back the money they lost but of course it was too late since lost already saw the film and at it's worse at that.
It's no secret that at some level X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Captain America The First Avengers have similar tones, they did fight side by side in World War II in the comics after all. It's a shame that Disney got the rights to the X-Men back so late, it's going to be a hassle for the MCU to retcon Captain America and say that he knew Logan and young Magneto off-screen and just never interacted with each other.
Maybe he thought that James was Logan's grandfather.
Keep making these n I'll keep watching! Great content guys
Yeah the grenade scene is amazing.
Captain America First Avenger is so seriously underrated
Walk Hard is one of my favorite movies!! Thank you for showing a clip!!!
I do love X-Men Origins: Wolverine but it is lacking in a lot of areas but doesn't make it a bad film at all just wished they gave it more polish and gave Hugh Jackman more to do as it feels like 90% of the film his is just there
I wish they would have had young James be horrified when his claws came out the first time, as anyone who had bones tear out from your hands would be, instead of that adorable tween "yell" and have him come to the horrific conclusion that he could use them to get revenge, and he can't help himself, because he's become the animal! And then when he did the deed, go right into shame and regret and running away.
Thank you for doing these again.
It's always twitched my eye when they associate Logan with wolf or lupine imagery.. A wolverine is more like a large badger than the huge magestic wolf.
That said, I wouldn't eff around with a badger on it's worst day. Still, my point stands.
The edits and inserts in this one are top tier.
100% correct. I have been a Wolverine fan since 1991, when I heard he was getting his own movie I made plans to see it twice! That first viewing felt like a slap in the face. How could they do that to my favorite character of all time?
Man to see Capt America and Wolverine on the BIG screen at the same time would be amazing
Fun fact, they know each other and have teamed up before Cap was ever frozen in time
Kinda off topic, but I *did not* expect a Starkid reference in a SceenCrush video. I love the crossover.
Love that you brought in Starkid
I hope that Marvel pick you or Colton up for lore/world building. Love the way you guys craft a theory.
Colton, yes. Ryan, no.
The opening credits for XMO:Wolverine is still one of my favorites of all time.
It's always easy to point out what "is wrong". And also say what should've been done to fix it. But it's always "fixes" on specific moments. Changes like this affect the whole movie (overall storyline, pacing, etc.).
These comparison vids are some of my fav SC videos. So stoked for another one!
I love the homelander cameo it was perfect timing 😂
I want to see you go heavy on the montage!?! 😂🎉❤
Steve Rogers jumping on the grenade is one of my favorite MCU moments of all time. I love it so much.
I read that it was subtitled The First Avenger so that it would more comfortably play in foreign markets where the main title could be de-emphasized because Disney didn't want it mistaken for propaganda in places unfamiliar with the character. I wholeheartedly agree with this video's thesis.
Ryan: thoughtful comments about the American Civil War and how Wolverine would have fit in there great for thematic and metaphorical reasons
Doug: but Wolverine is Canadian. (Drops mic)
Next is BARBIE AND MATRIX 💯🔥🔥🔥
Eh, I liked both
Hey Ryan can you please make a video about The Wolverine I never see anyone’s opinions of it on the internet, but when it is mentioned in videos people also say “we don’t talk about this”. I thought it was a pretty enjoyable film, but I want to hear your thoughts on it because I love your videos so much.
X-Men was the best movie in my opinion I think they didn't show enough of Captain America meaning I wish the showed more of the mission he went on
6:02 ever notice how the 4F looks a lot like a certain WWII symbol that UA-cam might not let me type?? Very clever Easter egg
100% agreed with this analysis!
I think both movies worked
Just started my MCU timeline watch through the other day. My plane was to do x men afterwards. Can’t wait to watch this once I’ve finished.
WOW! I didn't read the Wolverine origins comic... I had no idea James loved Jean because of a resemblance to a childhood crush. cool!
I remember seeing this in the move theater and getting home and putting sticks between my knuckles acting like wolverine 🤣🤣🤣
Great discussion
Evans😍
I like First Avenger a lot and... I don't hate Wolverine Origins. Obviously it's not the best X-men movie, but I don't think it's so bad. However, Wolverine is one of my favorite comics character so my opinion is kind of biased. I love X-men 1, 2, First Class and Future Past and I like animated X-men series. And I love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine! ❤
I liked the montage.
A berserker rage with consequences would have been helpful, but a bloodless bloodbath is really hard to pull off.
@ 19:23 Dog is NOT Sabertooth. Dog is a completely different character and the actual half-brother of Wolverine. But if you actually read the comics then you would've known that instead of making that mistake.
Channels like this.. with host like this guy don't know crap about the source material or doing research.. & it's clear as day to actual fans
The comic in the beginning of the book has a word that says with the movie coming out Marvel wanted to get the origin out first. The film and comic are similar but are not based off because the movie was already in development
When they finally add the Xmen characters to the MCU, assuming they don't do it through some multiverse stuff, i think it would be cool for Marvel to show a similar montage of Logan fighting through wars but culminating on ww2 and Stark using his blood and DNA to create the super soldier serum.
I like that dog. He's nice and cool. 👍
I love both of these movies. I actually own Wolverine Origins, I love that movie. Great movie.
The most interesting thing about wolverine comics was him searching for his past, following little glimpses of his memory and clues from others. That search for who he was and what happened to him is the heart of his character. In this movie they just puke out his whole life story, no mystery, no intrigue, no soul searching for his true nature and what he might have lost. A wasted opportunity.
Nice video
X-men origins would have worked better as a Sabertooth story than an wolverine one. Because Levi played an badass sabertooth..
I always liked the introduction, and Liev Schreiber IS an animal. I totally agree that they should've done (or do) a real origin story.
I see you got the grand tour reference correct this time.
Can you please do a video titled Avengers Endgame vs X-Men Days of Future Past - Why One Worked and One Didn't?
Captain america will always one my favorite mcu movie it definitely underated definitely better than xmen origin it had better storyline ,and writing.
X-Men ❤
Hey screencrush are you guys ever going to do x men origins Wolverine rewrite
Good stuff. I think better he losses himself in Vietnam with Victor.
Sees two young brothers.
Brings back his humanity.
Then leaves
I think that was Silver Fox
She teaches him to love
Then the big betrayal
First half of XMOW was an insanely expensive Cannon Action Film from the 80's. Second half is like what happens when you give a 5 year old boy an oven and the ingredients to make a pizza.
Wolverine was and always will be my favorite "Hero" and Hugh Jackman was the most perfect fit for the character
"You wanted the animal, Colonel, you got him." I don't care what anyone says, that line *so* cold.
Please Marvel, give us that Wolverine and Sabertooth war movie. In the hands of a good director, it could be as good as Logan.
Even hugh jackman ,and people involved said they dont like it.
My guess is Steve is a good guy who has to choose violence while Logan is a murderer who wants to be better. The second seems like a much bigger lift that needed more focus and honesty
Don’t piss me off X-Men Origins was amazing
From Weapon One to Weapon X from marvel comics to 2 marvel movies
I think the problem is that we had already met Logan in 2 or 3 films by this point… So the director lazied away the true “origin” in favor of “what did he do” not “who is he”…
Hmm.... I don't know why but when Ryan Arey points out the problems of X-Men Origins Wolverine its almost like what marvel is currently doing since 2022 🤔
When he said " the movie constantly trying to set up other movies instead of stopping to focus on the movie that we are currently watching", yesh 🤦🏻♂️
Finally someone else noticed that in bohemian rhapsody!!!! Thought my whole life no one would ever mention it. Whyyyy.
Just realized the similarities Wolverine and Sabertooth have to Geki and Burai from Zyuranger which most people would recognize as the basis for the original red and green Power Rangers.
10:29 this was the scene that made me turn off Bohemian Rhapsody and watch another movie. 😂
ryan! i know it’s not super nerdy, but would you please do a review/breakdown of the new netflix movie “Leave the World Behind”?? i love your breakdowns and in depth analysis of movies/shows, and i think you’d do a really good one for this movie
@ScreenCrush
Based on the 1845 date, not only did Canada not formally exist as an independent nation, but the North West Territories also did not yet exist. At that time it was known as Rupert's Land and was administered by the Hudson's Bay Company.
You are right however in 1975 Wolverine told the Colonel that he was Canadian, it was almost fully form in 1867.. There were North Western Territories and Rupert Land in 1845. Canada Newfoundland was the last Province to join.
They saw blob and Deadpool and didn’t know what there mutant powers were so they said helicopter guy and really strong punch that can explode a tank
Wolverine was in Capt America's howling Commandos along with Dum Dum Dugan .
I love that 90's Captain America movie... Not the original movie. Dammit Doug, sort you're persons writer. Woof. *Love you both*
Huh. I liked wolverine origins more than 1st cap. By far too 🤷
I conpletely forgot his name is James. I don't even remember his last name. I just know wolverine as Hugh Jackman lol
Which is funny cuz I'm a huge marvel/X-Men fan.
Would have been cool if X-men was included in the MCU when Captain America came out, like having a cameo of Wolverine in the movie
There talks of small cameo of Wolverine in The First Averager .
Joe Johnston had more freedom on Captain America. Gavin Hood's vision for Origins: Wolverine directly clashed with what FOX wanted, resulting in a film that didn't satisfy either party.
