Shopping for a tube overdrive, I played them all and this one really seems to be the best sounding. Going to pick it up. Very natural sound. I will be running it into a JC120 and is sounds amazing.
My friend bought this pedal and it really kicks ass! We have these horrible Line 6, digital modelling crap amps in our school, horrible horrible tone, and this pedal makes it sound like a really good amp. Buy it.
Line 6 amps can get killer tones if you know how to set 'em right! the models of amps they copy may not be better than the real thing, but they come pretty close! and the built in effects are a plus!
Your amp might be a modelling amp, but this pedal (as well as the hot british) will send a nice tube driven sound to your VOX on its own. So it should work out fine.
I'm very surprised by this pedal, I haven't heard too much about these pedals and only seen and played one of theirs but I have to say this one sounds great. Kind of a Marshall tube high end tube distortion. I would imagine this pedal would sound killer with lower watt amps.
@147147Nick - I don´t get that, Classic has enough distortion for acdc before 12 oclock on gain stage 1, and on stage 2 or 3 your in kind of modern/insane territory very very far away from any type of blues. For bedroom level I find that one notch mid boost should be default. Tried Hot British as well, and found that even with gain knob at zero it completely took over the amp and delivered hells bells type distortion as a minimum. So H.B. is not the clean boost or transparent thing.
I'd like to see this one with a footswitch to go between the different gain settings on the fly, instead of a sliding toggle that you have to bend over to reach. I'm 6'2", its long way down there with a guitar strapped on!
I think it's a good pedal, but I really prefer the Vox satchurator...even if it's a british OD, you can adjust it to have a classic american OD like distortion
if i changed the 12ax7 tube for a 12au7 tube would i ruin the pedal or would i get that sweet jimmy page tone im lookin for or does this pedal already comes with that great jimmy page sound? or are there other pedals better for that tone, like a vox cooltrone line(if yes, wich one?) or another tonebone model? pleasepleaseplease help me out!!! btw, very very very nice demo!!
Go check out the website.. the Tonebone series crunch/dist pedals all have a 12AX7 tube in it. I'm gonna assume you know what those are. By they way, I have both the tonebones, and last time I peeked through the vent grills, they had tubes in them -.-... again, ignorance is such bliss.
ok, this is a weird question but, here goes. If I were to run a joe pass hollow body through this pedal, what would be the best method to control the feedback or play at higher volumes without constant feedback issues. is there a pedal for cutting feedback?
@kisay69 Not really... If you want to play something like ACDC or metallica I would advice you to try Tonebone "Hot British" as it has more gain. I have it as a main distortion and I love it although it depends on you taste. I personally love tonebones.
I had a question. hopefully someone can answer this. When I use delay with my distortion it sounds like crap. It always clips and sounds.....LIKE CRAP>... HELP! I'm too lazy to go to a guitar forum, register, and start a thread when I know this is faster.
They all wear out like a tooth brush. Somewhere between 1 year to 10 years or more depending on the quality of the tube. I had a old tube radio that had the same tubes unchanged for more than 20 years...
i use a JTM 45 with both channels on 11....then i step on the Tonebone...i would never use a pedal to get a great amp sound like their trying to do here, but this OD through a hand-wired overdriven amp is pure bliss..... power tubes typically need replacing after about 1000 hours....12AX7's at low voltage....i dunno...30 years?
Sure, that's what's great about this pedal. It will give some tube tone and character even if your amp isn't tube driven.

@ProGuitarShopDemos i agree, this is one of the thickest sounding overdrives ive played.
Great life-like tube overdrive. Really sounds like a good old tube amp being pushed hard.
This is a "no bullshit"demo!!!! excellent pedal! I just got me one, and it rocks!!!

@thenetslug no the hot british is meant to cover the british sounds, this is a more of an american voiced pedal IMO

I can second what @steinerhomesltd says - I run this the same way - always on, and roll back the volume for a clean sound. Sounds fantastic!
when you buy this beautiful pedal does it come with its adapter for power or do you have to buy the adapter seperately?
4:28 started to think this is a great overdrive, maybe the best for blues?
if you want a good thick tube od buy a good tube amp... nuff said

hey PGS. Can I use it with a solid state amp?
pfff shit, my school didn't even have a guitar class. I had to start an after school guitar club and we had nothing.
so is this the perfect distortion for classic rock stuff?
@acm12358 did you take a look at the hot british its the same only that it is suposed to have a more marshall-esque sound
I play a lot of newer material such as stuff from the band 'Paramore'. Would this pedal be ideal for that type of distortion?

Can you get the sound of the Texas Dual Distortion pedal from this one or the Plexitube, Hot British models?
Would a pedal like this work well in the effects loop so you're bypassing the preamp and just getting the tone of the pedal?
is this good as a main distortion? like steve vai satch style? or zeppelin to acdc to metallica?
podria jurar que lo estan probando con un fender de bulbos....
I have had that same problem with mine ;)
Anyone know if this will go well with the Laney VC15 amp, for classic rock sounds
do you have to change the tubes overtime?
I bought this pedal, litterally two days ago. i play through a 4 ten, fender deluxe. and its feeds back. is there something i should know?
I had a question. hopefully someone can answer this. When I use delay with my distortion it sounds like crap. It always clips and sounds.....LIKE CRAP>... HELP! I'm too lazy to go to a guitar forum, register, and start a thread when I know this is faster.
@ProGuitarShopDemos Yeah you can get it fat as you want, just tweak it.
is good for metal????Like slayer ,Metallica .....
what strings are you useing
If you want OD at low levels then thats not the answer. Plus not all amps drive the same way. And you may want to mix and match like I do.
agree fully. i'm your height too!
They all wear out like a tooth brush. Somewhere between 1 year to 10 years or more depending on the quality of the tube. I had a old tube radio that had the same tubes unchanged for more than 20 years...
I can't get the rough, filty dist-sound with this one :&
HOW WOULD THIS SOUND WITH MY FENDER SOLID STATE AMP ??? ( deluxe 90 DSP ) ANYONE ?
All tonebone drive pedals have 12AX7's in them. Unless you don't know what that means..
what's the song 4.56?
maybe try changing the tube...
mine's starting to do the same, and i'm probably going to swap it out for a mesa 12AX7
take it easy,
JK
