    I own this pedal and it has way more gain and a better overdrive than my Marshall. I have a great clean amp too and this pedal. I use it with an after pedal that boosts the volume for solos.

      That's exactly what I thought! I liked it so much, I bought two of the Hot British pedals, it's the single channel version of the Plexitube.

    for anyone who is interested or may share the opinion that this pedal has way too much gain at its lowest gain setting - which is what i found....gave me no headroom or flexibility to put any tone shaping pedals in front of it. in channel one with the gain at 9 am with 8k paf style pickups it was, for me, more gain than i would even want to solo with. i really liked the tonality of the unit but just way too much gain right out of the gate....i almost sold it then i thought..."duhhh..."....i pulled out the 12ax7 and put in a 12at7....PERFECT! ...now I can do clean boosts, treble boosts, eq boosts and shaping, and fx that create gain in front of it with no problem!! I honestly believe this pedal should come with a 12at7,,,it has way more flexibility for the above and hi output pups. and if you like the sound of a real marshall plexi dead clean, ala jimi H, try putting a 12au7 in there and it will clean up even more. i hope this helps anyone who has had this problem. now for sure, this pedal and the carl martin plexitone (the original big 120v one) are the best marshalls-in-a-box going now. and g-systems thx for the informative review.

      livingabovethe12th, Thanks mate, 12 at7 works a treat. I get a lovely "squishy" tube Marshall distortion tone and good cleans all from a Fender 100 watt (solid state amp) I use live.

      So the gain is driving the 12ax7 first? I’m finding the same thing that the drive barely wants to be on for the sound I’m after. Good but maybe a bit less would be good

      Hi, have you ever recorded that pedal with the tube switched? I am in the same situation....Love a Plexi...but too much gain all the time with whats commercially available. I know you initally posted years ago...but 1) still feel that way? and 2) any video of it? Seemed like a perfect resolution for Us people who dont neeed Gobs and Gobs of distortion!!!

      Arturo Álvarez While I've never tried the Carl Martin, I can say that the Radial Plexitube and Hot British (single channel version of the Plexitube) are the most incredible, and amp-like distortion pedals I've ever used...I bought two Hot British, and used them for years before I switched to the Kemper. If you get the chance , try one (Hot British or Plexitube, that is), they are amazing!
      Rock on,

      +G-System Videos great demo by the way! I was about to get a Plexitone from Carl Martin too, but this plexi type pedal from Radial has a lot of options, besides its great sound, I think surpass any feature of the carlmartin, being a great one too... 1. Which guitar are you using on this video? 2. could I connect two or thee pedals in the "effects loop" of this pedal? like an overdrive+delay? 3. how much difference on the level of gain can give the trim, right side, for channel 2?

    • @gsystemvideos
      @gsystemvideos  8 років тому

      I think I was using an Ibanez Saber with Tom Anderson pickups for this video. It's the most "amp-like" overdrive I've ever used...I can't say enough good things about it. I never tried the effects loop of the pedal, but, like the pedal itself, I'm sure it works and sounds great. I'm sorry, I don't remember how much the trim control actually did to the gain. I just know that I loved this pedal, and the Hot British (single channel version)...can't go wrong with either one!
      Rock on,
      Scott.

      Arturo Álvarez Spend $25 bucks on a Mosky Plexi-M. It sounds better than the Tonebone Plexitube and just as good as the hot channel in the Carl Martin black box Plexitone. I know because I own all three.

    I agree, and if you were in the room for this you would have been blown away by how great the Plexitube sounds! It really moves the air, and gives the feel under the fingers just like a great amp does.

    I have one and love it. It can go from Zep to Megadeth and everything in between.. Bought it used, had an iffy chan 2 taper knob, Radial repaired it, free of charge; great crunch box from a very cool corporation. Through my 95 LP std, Traynor YCV50BLU combo (also Canuck) and Boss DD20, what else can I ask for? Cheers.

    Thanks for the nice review and demonstration!
    How did you use it? (usual) guit -> plexitube -> preamp -> power amp
    or (effects loop) guit -> preamp -> plexitube -> poweramp
    or (exclude the preamp) guit -> plexitube -> poweramp
    ?
    A video with differences like that, would be awesome!

    Well, I've played them all, and I have to say that the Radial pedals are the closest you're going to get to the real sound and "feel" of a Marshall Plexi. I have a friend that builds Plexi clone amps, and the Radial is right there with it.
    I bought the Radial Hot British, the single channel version of the Plexitube, check out my latest video...it really rocks!

    It's a pitty the pedal is unable to boost a clean channel for clean soloing or a drive channel to add the volume up when soloing. Am I right? I'd use the 2 channels at the same time. Thus I would have channel 1 to boost clean tone and channel 2 as well for soloing. This is the only reason I'm not gonna buy the pedal. Tell me if i'm wrong...

    • @gsystemvideos
      @gsystemvideos  10 років тому +1

      Well, it's not meant for clean anything, it's real strength is to transform a single-channel clean amp into a three-channel fire breathing monster!

    Reality is unless you are there in person you cant hear the real tone- example listen to a joyo hot plexi demo- sounds like pretty much any other distortion pedal on youtube, compare to an OCD A B and there is no comparison......bottom line is you tube vids are simply a guide and nothing more. BTW great videos scott, I own and am a slave to the G.

      I've had all of the Radial pedals, and to my ears, the Plexitube (same circuit as the Hot British) sounds best. I loved the Trimode (same circuit as the Classic), but, the Hot British/Plexitube just feels right for me and my style.

    • @gsystemvideos

      Too much gain? Not to my ears...they both have a lot of gain to offer, and both can be rolled off to sound more "vintage". To me, the Plexitube/Hot British had more of an actual amp sound, over the Trimode.

    • @scarletserbiaserb4503
      @scarletserbiaserb4503 10 років тому

      so, you recommend a plexitube, over trimode..,forgive me if I im wrong?

    • @gsystemvideos

      Oh yes! I suggest either the Plexitube or the Hot British (single channel version of the Plexitube) over the Trimode, not because I don't like the Trimode, I do!
      But, if I could only have one, I would choose the Plexitube/Hot British.

      It’s a control for upper midrange and high frequencies, depending on the pedal...some can be for ultra-highs as well. So, it’s a very product specific frequency boost. It’s been years since I’ve used the Plexitube pedal. But, I did recently purchase three Radial Engineering 9v overdrives...the new Hot British, Texas Pro, and the Regency. All very cool pedals!

      I haven't tried the Radial London pedal, but, I cannot recommend the Hot British/Plexitube highly enough, both are the best overdrives I've ever heard or played. There's just something wonderful about the "feel" of this pedal into a clean amp, you have to try it!

      Clean tones? People are quick to jump to a Fender twin but not so fast ... Marshall jtm-45,1974x, JCM800 50W. You get the best of both worlds with these Marshalls. The problem is....Amps are like women, you cant have just one!

    • @gsystemvideos
      @gsystemvideos  10 років тому +1

      My whole point is that if you really want the best of both worlds, a great Fender tone, and a great crunch, plug this pedal in with a Fender...only one amp needed. If you want to spend money on two amps, go nuts! My space constraints here won't allow it, and, I don't think that I need to, sonically.
      For me, personally, I'd take an EVH III over any Marshall for a great crunch tone, anyway.

      G-System Videos Men thanks for the reply. When you say you have two hotbritish do you mean you use them both at the same time with different setups? Because I'm trying to do something like that....and maybe before the tonebone just an ibanez tubescreamer to get some gain,...also it came to my mind to use a Xotic BBPlus or maybe the Zvex BoxOfRock...what do you think? How do you think it would sound? I know it's hard to put it on words...Thanks in advance!

    • @gsystemvideos
      @gsystemvideos  10 років тому

      Hi Javier,
      Yes, I run two Hot British, one set to a lower gain, the other to a high gain sound.
      I'm also using a Radial Texas Bones for a Tube Screamer kind of overdrive, and a TC Spark Booster in place of the G-System's boost function...it adds gain and EQ to the leads, which is nice!
      I love the Xotic pedals, it's hard to go wrong with one of those.
      Rock on,
      Scott.
