- Backpack Hero Part 13 - the most unlikely duo has teamed up for greatness. Cauldron to create the potions and log to feed the cauldron. While I do start with a weapon, I boldly decide to do away with it in favor of the cauldron, and boy was it worth it! A unique run you won't want to miss.

It may be surprising to see this run instead of the continuation of the cleaver run, but I've decided I'm going to apply even higher standards than before about which runs get endless mode videos. The endless mode will have to be something much more interesting than the main run, and the cleaver run hasn't reached that point yet. However, it hasn't died yet either so there's still hope.
if you get two duct tapes i think you can use cauldron infinitely with one energy per use
also please get a weapon
Yo tyler, if you get 2 cauldrons, with one on top of 2 bricks, you can infinitely chain them, only limited by energy

I feel like this build would heavily benefit from the cauldron and log switching to a "select target cell" mode immediately after clicking them instead of going into an animation into the reorganize screen and back.
Can’t wait to see what this game is like on release, sadly I found out about the Kickstarter the day it ended so I can’t play the new updates.

It's great to see someone get a pacifist run going. My only pacifist victory relied on necronomicon to kill snakes. It was painfully slow, but at least it wasn't rng dependent like cauldron.
My only pacifist run was with the teddy bear sword (counts as an accessory not a weapon) and the pacifist's ring.
I went bashing shield, two pacifist rings, hercule, shield spirit, 2 archangel armors and a slats shield with haste from the forge and 2 ... what are they called protection rings, the ones that look like a complete broken ring. The haste lets it build up, armor cap at 999 was capping my damage per hit, but poison was the death of me. Most reliable thing against poison is probably cleansing rag with cleavers or arrows, but those are weapon builds. Also had a black mana stone with 22 mana used between ethereal wand for more turns (had 3 of those wands at one point lmao) and coral.
Oh, I did ditch shield spirit after a bit when I realized I wasn't using any weapons.
This is not the greatest cauldron ever, this is just a tribute. Tenacious D would be proud

At 36:39 I thought you would take the other cauldron. Stack one on top of the other, and a single item used at the top refreshes both of the cauldrons below.
Or use a single 1x2 brick to support the other cauldron in a 5x4 arrangement with seasoning in the middle to efficiently convert energy into potions + healing!
(Having one cauldron create the potion above/below the other and thus refresh them. Repeat the other way. Profit!)

Kinda wish this game had a bias system, where if you have certain items and certain other items work well with them, you're more likely to get them. Does make the game easier, but it would also make runs like the building run, or the cleaver run, or the shield run etc. reach their genuine full potential, which is more fun, which is the point. If the bias is too strong it could still create problems for those that want weirder runs, so maybe a 20-30% increase in likelihood is good enough.
Rng makes it fun! And I tried a cleaver build once and I am still going at floor 69 so it's not that hard to accomplish. I might have gotten lucky with three of the flextapethings and a lot of haste on my shield
@@Mlegacies Ehh, rng is a part of it, but it's not the sole thing that makes it fun. Games like this make it better to stick to one synergy playstyle rather than adapt as you get new gear. Switching builds mid-run isn't a good idea. But I do agree that just getting everything instantly isn't good either, which is why I said add a bias rather than just give everything right off the bat.
Two cauldrons on to of one another (one shifted to the left or right once) can create a loop, with one cauldron refreshing the other. The same can be done with a single cauldron and two duct tape.
There is actually a Pacifist Ring item that gives you 1 energy per turn as long as you don't have weapons on the board.

Hey Tyler, you can press m on the keyboard on the title screen and start with Matthew's blessing and allowing you to skip the tutorial
PS: If you walk around randomly it changes rng so you can essentially reroll for better relics.
He's already done an episode with Matthew's blessing so he knows about it unless he forgot, maybe he just doesn't like it, I dunno.

Just saw this! I did try it today too. It's a hard build. A cool tip is that the teadybear sword is not a weapon.
neither is the glove of knives that buffs your scratch.
Potion brewing builds are some of my favorites. Once got 3 gold whetstones out of cauldron star potions.

nvm curse damage scales no matter what
I wonder if tyler knows that curse damage increases by 1 every time he chooses to take damage and it scales throughout the whole game, it has came to hurt him before in one video because he keeps taking curse damage
It also scales even if you dont take the curse damage, so it ends up scaling either way

I think that having to choose between certain shapes of spaces to add to your backpack would be interesting, kinda like Tetris pieces. It would make for some interesting shapes for the backpack, though you could get screwed over by just being unlucky but the items you find in the game are all based on luck anyways.
A Pacifist Run, I say. What an incredible feat.
I did one with Spikes, the one problem was the enemies had to hit me, so when there were enemies that didn’t directly attack me, it’d get difficult

@@furretwalky Well, to me, it was a funny thorns build, I would get a bunch of Spikes then armor up, however because I didn’t have a lot of health, I was very weak against poison
Strategy tip:
If you stack two cauldrons with 1 offset, you can alternate them without having to waste energy on a log
Would be cool if there was some legendary "Spiked Shield" which adds +1 spikes and deals your spikes stacks as damage to an enemy you chose, would make the spikes build actually viable
so a shield bash ability or something.

that's what i was thinking the whole time, i feel like he thought it had reverse nun chuck spaces and never used the spot bc he thought it was used, there were several points that he clicked that spot to use the weapon then realized that slot isnt the weapon
Crimson energy requires all spaces 2 away to be empty to function
If you end up with no other way to use your energy, there's the "Scratch" option in the top left to deal 3 damage for 1 energy, it's not much but it's better than wasted energy

Whatd be nice is like a single slot to the right that can hold a single item of any size, but is isolated and seperated from the bag and cannot be used in battle. A pocket. It would be nice for holding strong items that dont work for your synergy, but can be used to switch your strategy into if you get too unlucky with your first idea.
Etc you run a shield build but got a ledgendary bow. You put the bow in the pocket slot, and continue on. If the shield strat works, the bow is irrelevent, but if you get 0 synergy for shields but instead get good arrows, you can now more easily swap to bows.
This’ll help with stopping some runs from bricking (other than literal brick builds lol)
Something neat to see might be a Beserker Club + Shield full run build. Might be fun
I wholeheartedly support Brick Run 2: Rebricked. With the bigger backpack, more synergies could be found, and maybe even some form of damage would synergize well. Who knows, maybe the block cap got increased with ten update.

I find it funny that seasoning buffs seasoning when it's consumed. Cos you wouldn't want to eat your seasoning unseasoned!
Structures + Haste gets nutty super quick. I had a run with a giant structure and a Lil’ Buckler that had +2 Haste on use. I got to 999 block in only a few turns, then just stacked spikes. Died to curses on floor 13 or 14.
Double cauldron would have been so good. Instead of spending 1 energy to generate an herb that does nothing, the two cauldrons could have taken turns refreshing each other. Of course there's the risk of creating a potion you don't want to use and not being able to refresh the other cauldron. So maybe keeping the log was better.

Have you ever tried a build where you fire arrows with your shield instead of a bow? That gets...interesting rather fast. Especially with the Soldier's Buckler to counteract the Shield Spirit's downside.

It’s very hard to “get a better counter for poison” in a pacifist build. You can’t get cleansing potions fast enough
Hey Tyler, one really cool build I'd like to see you try is a red hoodie build. I know you've talked about wanting to try it before, but idk if you've gotten a chance. It's really fun if you're lucky enough to start with a red hoodie from matthew's blessing and you have like 70-100 hp by the time you get to the first boss depending on the # of fights and healers.
as much as i dont wanna be that guy, coal would've refreshed cauldron if you used it BEFORE you clicked on cauldron. you have to use it before you go in on a consumable.

I’m somewhat upset that aliensrock didn’t realize the club only takes three spaces in a semi-L shape, he never used the one slot below the club

He then leaves the spot open so that the Crimson Energy works and gives him energy.
Crimson Energy only works if tiles 2 spots away are empty, so leaving the spot open is worth it.

Have you tried a spike shield build? There’s a rare item that activates any adjacent shields, and stacking all the spikes on that give you a good ~80 dmg per hit taken each turn, and since they stack, they’re really good against bosses
next time: Tyler becomes a Seasoned Sand Witch!

That item arrangement was killing me... could have been using cauldron 4-6 times every turn by moving the stuff on top out of the way, use 3 of his 6 energy to reorganize once a turn to rotate the new items top side before using them.

The berserker club looks to be 3 spaces yet you treat it like its 4? Never played but it looked like the necronomicon could have fit above the consumable you tossed
U had a free space below the berserker weapon all the time xd I know didnt really matter in the long run, but could stick to one more ring/consumable
Idk if you will ever read this but if you like roguelites and hard ones you should try out noita it's on steam and it's really fun with a ton of secrets

Watching in amazement as you take all those unnecessary curses (which stack damage for every one you refuse the entire game long). Stacking up spikes to kill those geckos on turn three would have been more effective in the short and long term.

Eh, you want to have a full backpack in endless and making space for curses just isn’t useful if you have to place them anyways, much better if you just one shot the enemies with cleavers
