- It's time to brave the cold and cover one of my biggest review requests.
And on the off-chance anybody reads this far into the description: yes, I know that Sub-Zero and Scorpion's rivalry in the games is over Quan-Chi killing Scorpion's family and framing Sub-Zero for it. Not only is framing Sub-Zero not mentioned in the game, not only is a DIFFERENT Sub-Zero than the one from the main series responsible, but the N64 version doesn't mention the murder of Scorpion's family.
As is mentioned in the review: A LOT of dialogue and context was cut out of the Nintendo 64 version. - Ігри

I get the feeling this game was made under the arcade logic of "Kill the player constantly so they have to insert more coins" except the N64 isn't an arcade cabinet so that logic is stupid.
Sub-Zero pole dancing to get an enemy to jump to their death may be one the funniest things ever on this channel.

Hey DLJ! Been watching you since 2013 when i first stumbled upon your hilarious Superman 64 review and your reviews are still amazing and fun to watch!
If you don't have enough "material" to review, i would recommend trying out Diehard for the NES. AVGN did a video on it but i think it derserves a closer look due to it being a fairly unique game on the NES, and would be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Unfortunately my NES barely works anymore, so I don't think I'll be getting to Die Hard. I think there's a Die Hard Gamecube game though.

When I was younger, I had the choice of playing this game or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PlayStation 2.
I chose Vice City, and I regret nothing.

If you want to see this idea done right, check Shaolin Monks on PS2 (I think it might also be available on Gamecube, not sure on that one), it's really good, surprisingly.
Shaolin Monks is only available on PS2 and Xbox. Kind of sucks that it wasn't ported to GameCube when most of the other Mortal Kombat games got ported to the system during that console's lifespan.

This game is pretty much the X-Men Origins: Wolverine of the MK universe, a poorly thought-out origin story of one of the most popular characters in the canon.

Anyways, did you play any of the DBZ Budokai games? Aka, the only fighting games I've ever liked.
I briefly played them with my friend BaldBeardedGamer; I remember liking them.
I own Budokai 2 but I didn't get into it much before jumping into something else.
The budokai games as well as ones tenkaichi budokai were fun same with infinite world for PS2 db fighters I want to play but I don’t play PS4 Xbone or Switch I play older generations though and enjoy games

Being one of those 20 people who were in the livestream watching you play this. It is a bit of a mood change you had during the review. Felt like two different people with the same voice and playstyle but that being said.
The games legendary status we all seen coming, I can't say I'm into MK or it's lore besides the memes of the series but even as a story perspective... It's pretty split, not a lot make sense a lot of who is who in this game, being a introduction to the MK series as a prequel to the first game... There is a lot of questions that needed to be answered for it's debut in the timeline
Well I tend to be more relaxed playing N64 games since I have a Gameshark in my back pocket. I do still need to get legit mad and critical of flaws for the final review though, and this game has plenty of material and inexcusable flaws.
And yeah; this game is an awful intro for someone not acquainted with Mortal Kombat.
I had a friend back in the day who really liked it and did everything on PS1 version. No Internet back then too!
I have a feeling Jadow was having more fun coming up with ice puns than playing the actual game.

I think I might have already asked this, but what is your opinion on puzzle fighting games like Puyo Puyo, Pokémon Puzzle League, or Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, if you have played them.
I haven't played many of those, but I friggin LOVE Pokemon Puzzle League and Puzzle Challenge. Played them all the time as a kid!
I do have a problem with Tetrisphere's multiplayer though, if that counts; it just flat-out stops the other player from being able to play.

I'm with you on mainstream fighters being convoluted. There's one fighting game I think you would like: My Hero One's Justice. It feels a lot like One Piece: Grand Battle and Grand Adventure, and the controls are VERY easy to understand, and each fighter feels unique.
And as for the review, you're ice puns are terrible... and that makes them hilarious. Also, I think I read somewhere that Sareena comes back, but I can't remember where.
They're really not that bad to learn, you just have to actually care about learning a game and put time into it. Go figure, sometimes you have to learn a game and can't just press a single button to win.
oh god, I remember that on the stream the entire chat was abound with laughter when we realized it cuts you off form the best ending on easy
The game cutting off was a huge surprise to me, but also a massive relief; I was tired and ready to stop anyway. I'm not used to gaming for hours and streaming. Still pissed about the game cutting off though. Again: I don't know why this was a recurring trend with shitty games.
@@Darklordjadow1 some games during the 8 and 16 bit era did this and none of them were shitty but this game came out 1 gen later stuff like that was pretty much a dead design trend just something else to add to the games shittynes lol

if you ever try another fighting game i give you a tip, the quarter half circle motion repeats with most characters, use it as your start to learn moves, thats how i learned, im still a crappy player, but to be honest you dont need to use combos if you play arcade mode or single player modes

I know i'm far too late for this but a part of me seriously wishes you got to play Fantasy Strike someday. The complaints you have with fighting games are ones many can relate to, and are thus something the genre doesn't often do anything about, but is very relevant. And Fantasy Strike is one of the best games for that. I would highly recommend you check it out (not that you need to make a video on it or anything). It might be another fighting game for you to enjoy, or it may help ease you in to the more popular ones.
Edit: In hindsight you might not need to be "eased in" to more popular fighting games if you're enjoying DBFighterZ already. I'd say that games does a wonderful job with its gameplay and controls to be enjoyable for both dedicated competitive players, and casual gamers that only occasionally play fighting games but aren't taking them as seriously.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, despite some DLC controversy, is another fighting game that I recommended
4:35 actually, Acclaim, the company who did the early ports of MK games, pretty much just used the resources they had on hand from those ports to make Batman Forever. Midway had nothing to do with that. Midway and Acclaim had a weird relationship. After Acclaim did the home versions of NBA Jam they somehow were able to trick Midway into giving them the license to the name. Midway had to title their next few basketball games something different after that debacle while Acclaim kept cashing in on the NBA Jam title. Both this game and Batman Forever are still bad no matter what though. I've never even seen a copy of Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, so I never got to play that travesty as a kid if you're wanting to review that as well.
if you want to be able to consistently do special moves in fighting games you just need to practice. quarter circles which are required for hadokens (and many other moves) get much easier with practice (trust me i couldn't do them for a while either). the shoryuken input is a bit harder but that is mostly because its easy to accidentally complete the quarter circle on accident. my advice would be practice in smash as ryu or ken until you can consistently get hadoken and shoryuken to activate with the A button and after that you shouldn't have nearly as much trouble with the same inputs in other fighting games. alternatively fighterz has quarter circles for special moves iirc so you could just try it in practice mode in that game.
I think I'd have a tough time trying to take out Shinok's assassins. But unlike Devil's Third, I wouldn't cut their eyes out (I would knock them out).
I was pretty sure that if you face Scorpion in the Netherrealm he blames Sub-Zero for the death of his clan, which of course is Quan Chi's doing. He hired both clans to steal the Map of the Elements and paid the successful one by killing their rival. That's more him being a jerk than being an idiot.
But since we are on the subject of being stupid, lets talk about how the Netherrealm has this science fiction look to it that we don't see anywhere else in the series. An aesthetic like that isn't out of place in Mortal Kombat, but this is supposed to be Hell. You should be fighting giant demons, no robots.
I will grant the original MK was heavily retconed with Raiden's character, but I would just like to point that Sub-Zero's story in that game said he was hired to kill Shang Tsung as opposed to being hired by him.
Some extra stupid in the boss fight with Shinnok. You don't have to use the teleporters, you can actually just jump over him. His monster form doesn't have the force field, but he's essentially an instant death zone. If you get within reach of his attacks you will get stunlocked because his constant attacking will knock you down and then hit you the moment you get back up. His reach is greater than yours so melee attacks don't effect him. The only way to kill him is to spam this high level ice move called the polar blast that hits enemies even if they aren't on screen and hope you have enough restorative items to use it enough times. And if that thing kills you have to start the entire fight all over again.
As a lead up to MK4 this game hits another fail. That game revealed Quan Chi actually kept Shinnok's amulet for himself, so Sub-Zero and the player went through all that work for nothing.

The complicated controls for most mainstream fighting games is also why I could never get into them. I don’t like having to input 10 different commands just to get one combo, especially where one slight incorrect motion on the stick could completely ruin your combo. They’re definitely learnable, but I find myself unable to really get into any fighting game. Just not my cup cup of tea along with nearly all sports games.
The nether realm creeped me out as a kid. The background reminded me of an industrial wasteland
Midway didn’t make Batman Forever. It was made by Probe Entertainment. They just built the game using the Mortal Kombat engine.

What do you think of metroid samus returns?
I really like Samus Returns. Few control issues, hut having the map readily accessible on the dual screen works really well. I gave up on the final boss fight with Ridley though. Backtracked to get all the upgrades; still need to go back and finish Ridley.
The counter-move was very strangely out of place and awkward though.

as a kid i played this game on the hardest difficult without a game shark. it was the only way to make it challenging. I was laughing myself to death. This was incredibly comical.

Me personally I love Mortal Kombat, Marvel Vs Capcom and some other mainstream fighters. Don’t play Street Fighter anymore. And I need to get back into Tekken. Oh yeah, and Soul Calibur is awesome.

Midway didn't make Batman Forever, the developer was Probe Entertainment who were I believe best known for making Sega's home ports of the MK games and who became a subsidiary of Acclaim in 95, and the publisher was you guessed it, Acclaim themselves.

actually, this game reminded me of Capcom Marvel games, not MVC, its Marvel Superheroes War Of The Gems, its basically a beat em up sidescroller that borrows allot from the Marvel Superheroes fighting game, and actually it has fighting game style combos for special moves, but at least some of them are actually simple and dont require backsteps, and oh oh you turn backwards instead of moon walking backwards just by pushing back what a grand idea

Scorpion's actor sounds like Shadow the Hedgehog back during the 4Kids days
From what I know, the issue with Scorpion and Sub Zero is more down to Quan Chi being a bastard that manipulates everyone, also Quan destroyed Scorpion's clan (the Shirai Ryu) as a reward to the Lin Kuei leader (master guy in the red) for Sub Zero getting the scroll. If Scorpion had got it instead, the Lin Kuei would have been destroyed. Quan Chi is basically a grade A asshole to everybody. It really was a set up for MK4 which came out I think about 8 months after this.
They did do a MK Mythologies 2 for Jax Briggs, not sure how that turned out cause I avoided it after playing this horror. One good note, the cutscenes music is actually quite nice. Kinda calming.

In the wind Temple you do fight fujin because mortal Kombat 11 has mortal Kombat mythology sub zero references and if you pair noob sibot with fujin they talk about there battle from mortal Kombat mythology sub zero and Raiden will had some obvious references to Sub-Zero taken shinots amulet and if you have noob sibot go up against the kollector he will bring up mortal Kombat mythology sub zero about how he was a thief
