When your riff is so stock that Beato predicts the solo.
And that was one of the better (relatively speaking) songs!
@@jasonchagnon5186 fr lol
That was amazing
Can barely call them riffs
Spot on! 🤣
I just asked my 14 year old about these songs. Halfway through, she said, "these are kinda old, when was this from?" When I told her 5 months ago, she said, "oh that explains it." Shows how fast things move in tik tok land!
and to be fair, these songs didn't age well. most of TikTok songs are forgotten. I'm not even sure if your kid will remember this when she turns 50.
Well, they call people who’ve been around for 5 years now legends, so it makes sense
@@gx1tar1er Cold Heart most definitely has aged well and will continue to
@@ytlurker220thats because its a remix of some of the best Elton John songs put together, thats 70's & 80's music basically, of course it has quality.
@@gx1tar1er yeah the only songs i remember are from the start of tiktok when it was just utter chaos.
This is like when I learned my first three chords on a guitar and genuinely believed I could do ALL the music in the world now.
I was right, just 25 years ahead of my time.
IM CRYING- 😂😂 You were right, indeed.
😋😄😄
Exactly!
im envious how rick can listen for 10 seconds then just lay his fingers on the right keys
This is, in its essence, rock music. Rock music is probably the easiest form of music to play so most of these songs are extremely predictable. Hence why Rick is so surprised when he hears an uncommon chord progression.
@@serjsidey7348 I understand, but I still can’t do what he’s doing
@@campar1043 Totally. It wasn't meant as a dig, just an explanation.
@@serjsidey7348 I understand

Look where i am now. Thought i would never know how to find the key,but here i am soloing over it. I'm not that great or anything. It ain't much. But i am another e.g. that you can do it too if you practice and learn.
5:13 is a great moment, Ricks musicality goes so far as to anticipate the actual line for the solo here haha!
Pretty impressive! This also made me smile
I would expect no less actually..
haha and here I was feeling good for guessing chords lol
Is it Rick's musicality or the song's predictability though?
That's Rick ... 😂 Great moment ... "There it is!" ... with that fat smile 😂
The thing about Tiktok virals is that, they’re not listened to as tracks many times, they’re actually used as background music in the videos. This means there’s a 15 second part in the track that fits perfectly to a specific situation as background sound. To understand why they’re viral, you’ve gotta find that 15 second catchy part.
"Mhmm okay, it sounds like a song."
Lmaaaoo you know the list is bad when Rick says that
Dude....as a Brazilian (so...portuguese speaker), I must say: Beato reading "Taca a Xereca pra Mim" (#4) is for me the greatest moment in history of youtube.
PS. Rick, it means "throw me your pussy", soooo....I guess..... there is this more profound dimension of this song (the poetry) that you just didnt take into account in your appreciation.
hahhahaha
Omg
Lol I agree bro, I wasn’t expecting this to happen lol
Quando ele leu o título da música eu tomei um susto kkkkkkk
Simplesmente fantástico djdkdkkdkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Rick in the title: "WE'RE DOOMED"
Rick in the video: "Huh, this is actually really cool"
It really shows that rick actually doesn't care about "this gen music" like the every adult I know. When he realizes that a song is cool, he admits it. I really like this about Rick
@@Someone-uw7je yeah it's like some people just can't accept for some reason that there are still cool songs around 🤣🤣🤣
@@capngrim your taste maybe
@@Someone-uw7je I dunno, I'm 46 and I still discover new artists that I like. None will ever be viral on Tik Tok, though. And very few are actually hits. But then again, even when I was in my twenties, I rarely listened to anything that became a big hit. If it's very hugely popular, it's probably gonna be simple and unchallenging. The only difference with how it was 20-30 years ago is that you need to dig even deeper now to find quality.
its clickbait for boomers which i think is said, he can do better than that
It's OK Rick! I teach 46 music students at my school each week and NONE of them are interested in learning any of the current pop music! Every one of them is learning the great older music that you usually talk about. There is still hope!!
There is plenty of well made, harmonically interesting, clever current pop music. Like Madison Beer’s Life Support or the new Kacey Musgraves album

Woah I didn't expect Lee Hi's "Only" to be there! It's been one of my personal mellow favorites so I didn't know Tiktok's bass-ridden and dubstep-filled preference would make it viral
Went into this "We're doomed" video expecting Rick to give them a right shellacing but he didn't. Rick's got a very good heart, I'm not sure I could have restrained myself!
Yes when it comes to music I have very little patience with crap and I totally would not be able to disguise my inherent loathing of so called music which sounds disgusting to me.

This is how I keep up with pop music. With Rick Beato's videos, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Let's go!
Yeah, me too actually. Always looking forward to these top 10 lists!
I even can't keep up with Rick!
Yes. This can help me relate to my teenagers. 😂
Rick Beato is the Cliff notes of music for me. Only the essential and always current.
Your funk bass covers of videogame music are awesome Alex, keep it up 👍🤗
"I guess I gotta start watching TikTok."
Well guys, it was really nice while it lasted. Rick's brain will never recover from this.
Not will mine
Yeah, all I could think was nooooooooooo!

it would be so awesome if crap like this would ONLY be on friggin Tiktok and not contaminate any other space))
@@MrChopsticktech Sounds like he liked about three of them.
Rick's laugh is in mixolidyan flat 9 sharp 11 with augmented 11.5
What's quite cool about this is that these are not just American songs. Feels to me like TikTok is really giving international artists more chance at virality :)
I love this Rick quote “Oh, that’s so wrong …. I like it, though.”
My favorite quote 😂😂😂
That's *exactly* what I said the first time I heard it..."That is so wrong!"
Like your first time opening a Penthouse magazine lmao
“There’s nothing really goin on musically, or even rhythmically, with this song.” Cracked me up, bc he’s just a music master. That is prob the “meanest” thing Rick will ever say. But his heart of gold will find a bright spot in any song.
his heart of gold would never find a bright spot in a song like that. he`s absolutely right, i use to say the same: there`s nothing really going on musically with any Brazilian funk song (song?!).
Pretty much none of the musicians on these lists are ever going to see this video, or have any native interest in Rick's content for that matter. I believe there's kind of a disconnect between such musicians and the like of his, Adam Neelys, etc audiences. You know, nuanced music and all being hard and what have you
@@angelodesouzaa Achei muito engraçado a parte que ele reagiu ao "funk", mas é de chorar, realmente n tem nada de música ali, o pior não é nem ser lançada, é ser escutada 🤦
Joe, as brazil is a huge country, there are many people who listen to this (unfortunately). But not ones interested in music, or channels like this one, Adam Neely as mentioned, 12note and others.
wow so much prejudice in these comments I threw up in my mouth a little
I'm beginning to think that Rick may be one of the coolest guys ever, he refrains from calling out 8 of the top 10 here for the horseshit that they are.
Which two aren’t “horseshit”? I like the African song.
I guess it's important to keep an open mind when you're paid to produce music, i'm sure he's worked on songs that deep down he didn't like but put in his best effort
@@nameisamine the other one is the asian song with the piano jazz style
Rick is actually smart and doesn't try to crap all over everyone. I know of a channel that all it does is crap on things unless a song really makes him happy. But guess what nobody listens to his music but loves Rick's music because everyone wants to support a positive person.
He does call it horseshit subtly by calling out the "copy and paste" basic chords and melody being used on repeat and then by essentially "predicting" where it's going
Thank you for this channel. Your enthusiasm is tough to beat--but couple it with your passion, positive, and knowledgeable approach to music...and this is a hit. I'm 41-year-old attorney who's decided to 'learn music' as alternative to Ambien as a method for calming myself before bed. I have to give you credit with inspiring this. Thank You!!!
When the highest praise you can muster is: It sounds like a song! 😂
Haha right
Someone achieved the bottom rung of the music ladder!
That was a good song tho
It’s kinda sad really…. That some areas of music has come to this.
Tbf this is a tik tok react list
When you predict and play the solo before you've even heard the solo. Outstanding, Rick.
Consider that Rick may prep by listening beforehand.
@@VisiblyJacked He's already covered this and said that he doesn't. His engineer Billy, though, does on some of the other lists, in order to properly tune/prepare the different guitars he'll use.
As a non-musician, I find it absolutely amazing that you can listen to a minute or two of a song & then play along with it! And can tell what key it’s in, too! See, this is why I think that music is the closest thing that humans come to being magical.
There's no magic going on here. All these songs use notes from the 12 we are given to work with. Of those 12 only 7 will work together at one time so a simple set of patterns soon appears. Guess the pattern used (the key) and play along instantly before verse 2 even starts. It's the ultimate con job to non musicians.
@@russzimmer5263 You’re right, it’s weird wild stuff to non-musicians. 😳
Not magic, predictable chord formats, and awful music
Loving your channel. I'm expanding my horizons more seeing your absolute love of music. It's inspiring as hell man
I love how he figured out the little melody right before they played it on number 7 LOL
He went for the minor harmonic scale
So good!
Agreed!
Yeah - I had to rewind that to believe it
Simple. It’s so predicable.
“I could put my 8 year old on Ableton…”
Sounds like Rick just revealed his retirement plan…
No, his kids are probably capable of composing at this level easily before their 8 years... :)
@@avramidis3d r/wooosh
I’m sure Rick’s retirement plan is what ever he says it is. You could retire 3 times just on the equipment in that room.
when he said it i remembered a friend of mine who played the guitar saying the same lol, one week later he realized it was not that easy and it requires skills to develop as a musician and as a producer to make a song though a good composition is great even if the mix and mastering are average
I use ablelton live lite ten 😆

superb stuff as always rick, bought the beato book and watch all the videos.
you are brilliant
Rick, the chord progression of the #1 song (and all its remixes) has a big Grover Washington, Jr feel. You could almost insert the vocal melody from “Just the Two of Us” into the song as an instrumental countermelody throughout the whole thing. Just another reminder that we are all influenced (whether consciously or subconsciously) by the great songwriters and artists of the past!
The moment it started, I heard “Just the Two of Us” in my head.
Some 16 year old on TikTok should just mash up Grover’s sax solo with that song and seem like a musical genius.
"Just another reminder that we are all influenced (whether consciously or subconsciously) by the great songwriters and artists of the past!"
I hear nothing from the artists of the past in current pop music.
@@treybenton2392 Just shows you know so little about the past. He just referred to the very obvious "Just the Two of Us" rip. Most who lived through that era would easily pick that up, and yes, it's a pretty prevalent thing in pop, like a few of the other songs did as well, including the one with Rocket Man et all.
That moment when Rick Beato played the solo of the song without having ever heard the song itself. Amazing!
There should be an app called "Rick Tok" muhaha
I was about to ask if you watched shred because of the Muhaha but it turns out to be the man himself!

Amazing Rick…always on top of these songs. Superb understanding of what makes the music.
I feel hip, I actually recognized the name of one of the artists, Elton John.
Ckay’s chord progression is the same as Bill Withers’ “Just The Two of Us”
I wondered if anybody else noticed that.

Rick playing the guitar part of a song before ever even hearing it is the next level of ear training.
It just shows how simple and predictable music has become. Its boring.
Next time he play a song before it's even recorded
Rick, your song breakdowns make me smile all the time. Love these videos. Must be a musician thing.
Love when Rick talks music theory, cord progressions, etc.!
It was worth the whole thing just to hear Rick singing Another One Bites the Dust!
That made me laugh so hard - not recommended when shaving.
"There's really nothing going on yet". No truer words have been spoken, RIck :)
Hahahaha!!!
Who would have thought that a app involving about basic dancing has a top 10 of basic dance tracks?!?!?? It should be 10 prog rock songs that last 50 minutes and has 2000 chords and 50 key changes!!!! (Sarcasm)
@@Codexter1 Top 50 "Viral" songs, these are the most popular songs in the world right now. He only stated tiktok because that is how they got known. A couple of thoughts - a) that Elton John / Dua Lipa song is one of those that is both a travesty and really cool at the same time. It's the bassline for me that really hooks you, it sounds great. b) makes me wonder if it's possible that any song every written could be distilled into a simplified four chord version?
its a cool but weird song, i always ask people who like it, can you sing the chorus? and they dont know but they like the song 😂😂
Agree it’s a great song, but not a travesty. Elton John himself is the behind the creation of Cold Heart. It’s not some DJ just taking it and remixing it.
@@The_Laureate Heh, no wonder i sorta like it. I highly encourage you young whipper/snappers to listen to some older music( you could be pleasantly surprised), Cheers!
It's actually pretty doable in my experience to dumb down any song to a four chord loop. I've had to do it for my guitar students before when they ask for something far out of there level. One of my favorite examples would be Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of under the rainbow which I'm the original is very complex jazz harmony but he simplified it to beautiful affect.
yes, it's a great bassline but just a simple line with quick echoes after each note (in time) giving a unique sound. The secret of a great hit.
It amazes me to see you reproducing the song in jus 30 secs!
Maybe that's the musician's world but for me, that has just started, is amazing!
I really appreciate how Rick tells his opinions without being rude, swearing etc. and we all can clearly see what's going on lol
Honestly if I were him I would
hahah, yeah it's disappointed dad energy.
I adore his opinions even if it seems like something he’s not into or wouldn’t normally listen to, he still has a respect for music and I love that.
@@lebulle4544 :DDDDDDDDDDDD
If nothing else, these videos reinforce why an Ear Training course would be worth investing. Watching Rick hit the chords and the progression is just to die for.
No need to invest in a course. Just a lot of time spent listening to songs and figuring them out by ear. It helps to know your music theory and train yourself to hear the intervals. Plenty of apps for that. All you need is daily practice
@@MrChopsticktech Doug Helvering does this too. ( He's a classical composer who reacts to pretty much every genre of music on youtube, but mostly metal and rock).
@@sbonfiglioli So true my friend.
I can't imagine the battle between the enjoyment of doing one video about the complexity of Sergio Mendes and then suffering making a video analyzing the "unanalyzable" trash like this "Taca a Xereca em Mim". both from the same country but at completely different points in history! You're a strong man Rick! Congrats!
Thank you for introducing me to Only by Lee Hi.😄 Beautiful touching song. By far the best one in this list. Even though I like Dua lipa's cold heart,....this one has soul and you can tell that those who made the song really put their hearts in this song. Even the video is incredibly cinematic and beautiful.
Rick literally guesses the guitar solo - I'm dead.
When Rick started playing #8 I kept waiting for a Bill Withers to sing "Ju-ust the two of us....". Once it showed up as the #1 that sealed it. Needs Grover Washington Jr. solo.
Haha. I had the same thought.
Oooooo me too! I was hoping he would say something........😒
I heard just the two of us as well
Just saw this. I agree 110%
Yup- two songs stealing from Bill Withers
Love seeing the vids Rick! I would say you’re one of the only people I can actually count on to get a valid opinion on a song.
I love how the songs sound better when you improvise over top of them!
Loved when he "predicted" the guitar run! That happens all the time to us musicians. Makes me feel clairvoyant haha 😜😜
I sometimes wonder if stuff like that is pulled off a loop collection and no one actually played it for that particular song.
Yeah even though it isn't that hard to do, you never lose the buzz doing it front of people who aren't musicians.
I love singing along to songs I don't know. It's easier to predict a melody than most people are aware of.
I'm not even a musician, I just have a sense for melody, or sense, period, and I can still often "predict" the coming note(s) or a word(s) in songs I've never heard before.
Once you have heard enough songs and expressions, you can easily guess what the next note or word would be, it's like a flow.
@@edinfific2576 it isn't that deep you don't know how the "world works" you just predicted a note in a song not a big deal

I love how he never actually disses any of it. Wow. What a skill! And actually it is all catchy somehow. Really liked “Meet Me At Our Spot” #5.
I love how he just know the chords and placement real fast like as a begineer, thats mind blowing XD
I think the reason why so many songs are 4 chords: Splice.
Pretty much any guitar in a pop song is a sample. That's great, but usually there's only 1 guitar sample per pack, and you're stuck to use those chords unless you either find a different guitar sample (which won't match the other guitar) or have a section that doesn't have guitar (like in a bridge).
In this scene Rick demonstrates he his in fact Neo of The Matrix ; he stops the music, plucks out a chord mid-flight, inspects it, and says "No"
Yeah he was cast in Matrix 4
watch nah...he is not even trying to throw shade. Could you imagine you put together this killer remix and RB says "oh? oh yeah that's merely this chord inversion.." APPLAUSE
this was so much fun to watch and this makes me really wish i understood music like this :D
ALSO HE JUST PICKS OUT THE KEYS LIKE WHAT
Cool to see you banging your head on some tunes Rick. We've actually got the same "taste" on this chart. Some are interesting, the others is just "fast music" to be used for 15 secs or even less on TIKTOKs or IG Reels
“It sounds like a song!” High praise from Sir Rick 😂🤣😂🤣👏👏👏👏it is beautiful 👍🏻🥂
Yeah, and that wasn't until #3
It never ceases to amaze me how he could just pick up the chords within 3 seconds of listening. What a legend
I mean, I'm pretty sure Beato is well versed on pop song producing/writing/etc and he knows the most common chops to be able to predict a lot of stuff easily. Not to mention A LOT of experience.
It's not as hard as it seems, if you have good relative pitch and an understanding of (very) standard chord progressions.
It's such a thing of beauty to see a true musician like Rick bubbling up his passions that he wants to jam along
I really do love this channel...hats off to Mr. Beato.
The chord progression in No 8 seems a lot like being inspired by "just the two of us" by Bill Withers
Me same exact thoughts. Immediately I said “It’s ‘Just The Two Of Us’”
Exactly…we’ve already heard this song…🙄
Nothing new under the sun, I guess..
Viral songs are quite weird often, sometimes there’s a unsuspected gem but not very often
Hey! You're supposed to be sunset
Agreed. It appears to me that most newer musicians raise their skills to a practical level but then choose not to hone their craft to a higher level.
I am astounded how can you go straight into the chords, your ear is impeccable! It would take me quite a while to get those right.
While it definitely is boring and kinda sad, the 4 chord thing makes sense in the context of a 15-20 second clip on a TikTok video. The hook has to fit into that tiny window and there's no time for extended chord progressions and melodic or harmonic complexity. A sad indictment of our times and attention spans, but it works for the platform.
Insane how we are witness of the flatlining of society as a whole. And who stops this?
@@secondsolstice8695 its a pendulum, naturally there will be a response to these kinds of songs from alternative culture like always. the kids are fine!
@@friskydinngo That's right! The experimental music scene today is greater than ever, if you know where to look. Sure pop music may be boring, but that's to be expected. There are plenty of incredible artists pushing the boundaries today.

"Wow, this is like an actual song. Don't know what language this is-" wow, Rick, that's Brazilian Portuguese - enjoy it & recognize it, Rick "to do bem"( it's all good!) _Please_visit Brazil, you'll love the music and food there!
It's worth noting that the top songs on TikTok aren't up there because they're actually being listened to by people, it's just for background music for dance videos and whatnot. You may as well review royalty free music for UA-cam videos at that point lmao (although sometimes you get good songs like the ones Rick pointed out)
Exactly
are you sure there are actual people and not just Internet of things talking to itself?)))

Great as usual Rick. Would it be possible to include info in the notes about the instruments you use in your vids? That guitar sounds wonderful, deep and full.

#4 is a funk carioca, like a brazilian trap. This is by far the most I laughed in YT in a long time 😂😂😂 ty Rick VAPO VAPO!
Ele falando o título da música, muita vergonha alheia kkkkkkkkkk
Morri quando apareceu essa música kkkkkk
Muito bom HAUAHUAHAUAHAUHA
He explained very well why this is crappy music
Pior que isso nem devia ser chaamdo de música, é horrível, foi vergonha alheia ver isso hahaha
Rick is a wizard. He can hear a 10 second clip of a song and instantly play it. It blows my mind.
Okay … wow, only just discovered Mr Beato and I agree with almost everything, it’s so great to know I have hundreds of hours to catch up with! 🙏🏻
08:47 will be my favourite Rick Beato Moment ever! "Another one bites the dust..." 😆
His knowledge of music and personality is what I admire most. Wish I could learn directly from him.
your knowledge of music is pretty awesome!
I literally busted out laughing at number 3 when you said "okay..it sounds like a song". 😂
There’s a video called “the four chord song” where these guys do a medley of like 20 huge pop songs using the same four chords.
Axis of Awesome ...I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane..I'm a bird plaaaaaaane, a MFn' bird plaaaaaaane lol..I listened to that way more than I should have ..Also: if you liked the 90's grunge scene than check out 'The Vestibules - The Grunge Song'..I was a kid in the 90's and loved this because it pretty much summed it up
Stuff like that really repels me from music. I have to go listen to some Steven Wilson, lunatic soul or something to be reminded there’s still ways to be creative in music.
it's more than 20 ;)
Axis of Awesome, they've actually released a few subtly different versions.
@@carpevinum8645 Their love song is awesome as well.
Rick listens. Picks it up right away. Adds licks that instantly make the songs better.
I am so here for this.
Hahaha PNAU is a great Aussie electronics duo. Pronounced Paneow. Love the vid Rick!
Rick I had an eargasm when you started soloing over that one Latin song! I could listen to you do that for hours
Rick pulls out the solo BEFORE he hears it. That’s perfect pitch
What does that have to do with perfect pitch?
No it ain't.
More like relative pitch, music knowledge and experience
Checkout Adam Neely’s video on perfect pitch. Made me genuinely sad for people that have it. Not incredibly related to these comments, nonetheless it’s a powerful video
Nothing to do with perfect pitch. Pretty easy for an experienced musician to hear what belongs there.
These songs are a great example of what happens when money and marketing become too involved in the production of culture. But kind hearted Rick still manages to find some positive points in this music - 'This one sounds like a song....' - excellent!
You know it's bad when you got to try to find good things to say about the music when in the 70's & 80's you liked it without having to try to listen for a good point within a song. Unbelievable!!!!
Is it the producers fault? Or the audiences' fault? What comes first?
What if they started pumping out complex music, would the trend change?
The trend would change 100%, based on psychological tricks as the exposure effect. Why won't they do it? Because it's more expensive to make original music that's not based on canned rythmes and melodies.
@@ujiltromm7358 That's true. Never the less the music scene is in a bad place as of now. There's been times in the past when people have brought up the change in the sound of music but to be honest it wasn't really so much a change in the music of the past meaning up to the late 80's & early 90's. It was a change in the scene meaning Rock, Reggae, Funk, Grunge, & so on. Even though it was a change in the scene & even sound most of it still had quality to it. 2000 & past that year the scene also changed but the quality lacked & is lacking at an all time high.
Rick I don't know anyone who could just say 'So this is a combo of a few different Elton John songs... using only 4 chords' with a smile and have it sound like such a sick burn. lol love it
Two of these songs instantly put me into
Bill Withers... Just the Two of Us.
Great video Rick!
