Im a cis woman who socially transitioned in 2017. I cut my hair, started wearing only mens clothes, went by a new name and pronouns and wore a binder too. I went to gender therapy to ultimately just figure out the right medical transition route for me. I live in BC Canada, where its all covered. I realized through therapy that I was having identity issues due to alot of other things. The gender dysphoria was coming from trauma, autism, bpd and body dysmorphia. I did a few more sessions with the gender therapist and then did DBT and trauma counselling.
I am actually the most feminine Ive ever been. And thats because gender therapy and access to these services is GENDER AFFIRMING CARE. It helped me, a cis woman, figure things out
And that to me, is just an example of why gender therapy and trans health care SHOULD be accessible everywhere.
Unfortunately, the transphobia and anti trans youth movement has exploded here in Canada too and people are protesting even in my own town.
I detransitioned and found myself as an autistic bisexual cis woman. And it made me want to advocate for trans rights even harder.

That's right! People often miss the meaning of words " therapy" and "care". Like investigation, the process can have different results. The purpose is not to make everyone transition or to prevent everyone from transitioning. The purpose is every patient's health and happiness.

I just got wilderness first aid certified. Part of our training was that people need to consent, for kids their parent or guardian provides consent for them. If kids cannot have medical intervention and gender affirming care because they “can’t consent” I also can’t pack your kids deep cut in the woods, they’re gonna die.
I wish people would just see how deeply LGBTQ+ identity issues can affect kids when they don’t feel like they are in a safe place to come out. Gender affirming care is lifesaving care, maybe not as imminently as bleeding out in the woods, but trans kids still need support and care and medical treatments as determined necessary by someone able to make that call.

love candace jumping from "you have to be born with a uterus to have a baby" (true) to "only women can get pregnant." she entirely skips the question of "does a uterus make someone a woman? does the ability to get pregnant make someone a woman?" yes, you have to be born with a uterus to get pregnant. some people who are born with a uterus turn out to be men. some people who are born with a uterus can't ever get pregnant. some people who, chromosomally and hormonally and psychologically, would be identified as a woman were NOT born with a uterus.

There's a lady, Lucy Kartikasari from the Netherlands(?) who labels herself as "detransgender." Assigned female at birth, she medically transitioned including top surgery and HRT. Then after about a decade she transitioned back to being a woman. And she is hugely supportive of the trans community. She says she regrets almost nothing of her choices.
She uses the term "detransgender" versus "detransitioner" because de-transgender can be read as "from transgender." She sees having identified as transgender as a valid part of her ongoing journey as a person. It's really lovely to hear about people from the detrans community who arent anti-trans. Which is the vast majority. Anti-trans detransitioners are rare but given an outsized platform.

"Saris adam, identified male at birth and later developing female characteristics through human intervention."
Yep, centuries ago Rabbis understood that there are male assigned people who medically transition. There is also the term "Aylonit adam" for female assigned people who medically transition. And they include categories that can apply to nonbinary and intersex folks.

That’s why it’s actually not that uncommon for someone to XX and have fully male anatomy or be XY and have fully female anatomy. 17:16 this is actually considered a hate crime in Canada! To actively harrass and purposely misgender someone is considered a hate crime in Canada as it would be covered by our laws. Simply misgendering someone by accident wouldn't but if someone was harassing Dylan here because of her identity by misgendering her, it's a crime.

    • @Maerahn
      @Maerahn 5 місяців тому

This is EXACTLY what transphobes don't seem to be able to comprehend. If you misgender someone the first time by accident (either because they look kind of 'ambiguous' in that sense or you just don't pick up the clues for whatever reason) most of the time you're not going to get any pushback for it, maybe just a correction and perhaps a polite request to use the correct term in future. Which, if you're a respectful person with *actual manners,* is not a difficult thing to do - we're taught politeness and consideration for others as *little kids,* and most *little kids* can manage to both grasp the concept and act on the knowledge learned.
But if you're *repeatedly* misgendering someone, even after being asked not to do so, THAT IS A CHOICE YOU ARE MAKING. You're not receiving pushback for something that's completely out of your control - *you are repeatedly putting thought and effort into doing the thing that is getting you pushback.* You are that idiot repeatedly standing on the rake and then getting annoyed when that rake smashes you in the face, instead of - y'know, *not standing on the rake.* You CHOOSE to be that idiot, the world will TREAT you like that idiot, it's not rocket science!

Gender being a spectrum does not mean any particular person would feel comfortable on any point in that spectrum or presenting like it; for me personally, although I am nonbinary, I am also a demiboy, and would not be comfortable or identify with presenting anywhere on the feminine side of the spectrum. Something being fluid / flexible =/= inherently devoid of meaning or definition.

That 1% regret detransition rate is potentially slightly misleading depending on phrasing.
It is good to point out that it is 1% of all detransitioners, not 1% of all trans people. The difference is that instead of being a fraction from a fraction, in reality it is a fraction from a fraction from a fraction.
In otherwords, you need thousands and thousands of trans people before you find one who will not only detransition, but does so due to regret.
Overall detransition rate would plummet with societal acceptance and I have a feeling it would also further reduce detransitions due to regret as well and not just due to societal pressure.

Like, we're totally cool with giving them to kids when they have medical issues where they need them. hormone blockers don't transition someone. They just pause things until they are old enough to make decisions without being forced to go through things that might be extremely traumatic for them. Should my future wife & I want kids outside of our fur babies, then we would decide together how to go about that. Having the freedom to say what you want doesn't mean you can't be called out or face consequences for it. If what you say leads to people getting put into a harmful situation or results in people getting harmed or killed then you will be held accountable for it. It's why if you scream fire in a movie theater or bomb in an airport you will be arrested for it because you are deliberately putting people into a dangerous situation were someone can & probably will get hurt. I am a trans woman and I have taken HRT for more than 13 years. Ok it's not 20 years like the person in one of the video, but it's a long time anyway. I have never regretted transitionning, not even once. This person needs to understand that her bad experience doesn't mean transition is bad.
I was a teenager when I started transitionning and I would have greatly benefited from puberty blocker, but they weren't accessible in my time. Yes, teenagers can know if they are trans or not. Yes, I was already in touch with a psychiatrist and an endocrinologist that allowed me to start hormones as soon as I turned 18 (the legal age at the time in my country, I don't know about nowadays). And I have never regretted it.
Also the person said that nowadays society has accepted trans people. Well I don't know about USA (I mean I see the news, it looks awful...), but I can say for France that it is totally wrong. People were much more acceptant when I started, in the early 2010. They were curious, clumsy, but generally well-meaning. There was transphobia, of course, and I faced it on some occasion, but it is much, much worse nowadays. Now it has become a political issue, and people have a political opinion on it, regardless of what the science says, regardless of what trans people live and experience. People who have never seen a trans person have an opinion on our right to exist.
For like 10 years, I didn't feel the need to say that I'm trans, to talk to other trans people and so on. Now, the evolution of society on trans issues scares me so much that I feel the need to go to trans group and exchance with other trans people. In the 2010, it was much more easier. It was harder on a medical perspective, but easier on a societal perspective, really.

Also still mad. The most medically invasive thing we suggest for kids is puberty blockers which are reversible other than that when we talk about trans kids we are talking social transition and like people are purposefully conflating the two. Like oh no Suzy wants to wear a dress and play on the girl's volleyball team and is upset that she gets misgendered. This is somehow medically irreversible.

Okay i despise this mindset. I get this from Christians. "I used to be just like you, but god saved me and now I'm happy :)"
Okay great, that is YOU. I dont care how similar to me you think you are, you are not me and you do not get to act like you're my future self trying to save me from something.
If you detransition for whatever reason, that's fine, that's your decision, but what other trans people do with themselves are NOT your decision. You're not looking out for anyone, you're being rude and condescending.

It’s because they think people are sheep to be herded; especially christians. I wouldn’t even believe people who are saying that are genuine.

Yep. Apparently I would be happier if I went back to the religion I never believed in. Apparently I "don't have to go to church but don't stop believing in God". Except that's literally impossible. I can't stop not believing in something I never believed it.

Free speech just gives you the right to speak, not the right to be heard. You're entitled to your opinion, but nobody has to agree with you or give you a platform to speak from, nor does it render you immune to consequences for saying something that can hurt others, like libel, threats, inciting suicide or violence, etc.

Supporting the art without supporting the artist becomes a little bit more complicated when some of the actors loudly become allies against the autor's transphobia.

28:37 Is... she trying to say that she only transitioned because it was easier or more accepted than being a lesbian? And that that has something to do with the young man she's responding to?
Listen lmao, I'm turning 34 in a couple months and realized I was trans when I was 20. I identify as a gay man. If it wasn't for society in the 90's and 2000's preaching trans men as the next step after being a super-huge mega lesbian, I would have been able to transition in my teens and maybe even get on puberty blockers! It just took me so long to recognize myself because I'm *not* attracted to women!

Idk what kinda world this ppl live in in witch being trans is more accapted than being gay, out of like 200 countries, I can name maybe 5 in witch being trans is more accapted than being gay. Even in places that hate both, usually gay is hated a bit less hated

This summer my family and I are travelling to Great Britain (London to be exact). And against my wishes, they (mostly my mother) wants to visit the Harry Potter museum. I’m just going to wait outside the museum and probably chant something among the lines of “JK Rowling is evil”

Fair warning from a Londoner (and maybe a helpful argument to make): if she's thinking of the Studio Tour, that place is right out on the fringes of the city and is a nightmare to get to, especially from the city centre. The transport connection is unreliable, taxis are REALLY expensive, and London isn't a fun city to drive in.
If you can suggest Platform 9 and 3/4 and the shop at King's Cross station as a better alternative, it might be worth a try. It's more accessible, and also has the added bonus of being way easier to avoid going into.
Good luck on your trip here either way, though - I hope the other parts of it are good!
