People literally just think that LGBT+ means that everyone is attracted to the same gender. Well, there's still loooads of queer people who can have children in their relationship... Why are people so ignorant? If they hate on something, they should look it up at least
I saw a meme saying "you're here because your father wasn't queer". My father WAS queer. And a wonderful man. I lost him last year. Shut the front door, as OT says. EDIT: holy carp, this blew up! wow. to everyone asking: yes, i am fine. I'm actually glad he's not dealing with it anymore, COPD is a bitch and a half. Being born in 1952 he never had the words for it, but based on our many many many (drunk and sober) conversations, most likely some flavor of pansexual. "if we get along, gender doesn't matter. men can be pretty too" and secretly watching gay porn after I taught him how computers work :D I wonder just how many closeted people were in that town... especially under communism. If I had been around before 1989, they would've destroyed me because I can not shut up :D
I love how the drag queen fear is coming from the Catholic Church, of all places. Statistically, a Catholic priest is a lot more dangerous to your child than a drag queen.
My favorite trans joke actually came from a cis male comedian, Drew Lynch. "I don't know if I'll ever transition, but if I do, I know what my name will be. I'll be Rew, because it's Drew without the d."
I was brought up in a Christian-based cult. I didn't even understand the "existence" of LGBTQ+ individuals until I was in my late teens because I was never "exposed" to it. Yet, somehow, my first girlfriend and I knew we were bisexual since we were 5 years old - we just didn't have the language to explain it at that time. The only thing that happened from me being kept from that understanding as a child was an enormous amount of self-loathing and loneliness (and bullying). I wasn't "magically" not bi just because I didn't know about it.
My son came out as trans. My brother thinks I'm abusing him by allowing him to be himself because I'm OBVIOUSLY forcing him to believe what I believe 😑 he didn't care when my son was coming out as pansexual but he drew the line at trans.
You are not abusing him, you are being a parent! My brother said the same when my kid came out as nonbinary. I did the same thing that you did; I accepted and kept on being a parent. THAT is what being a parent is all about! Great job fellow parent!! ❤
That's sad to hear! But you are doing the right thing and I'm sure your son knows how lucky he is to have a parent as empathetic and supportive as you. Just to have the option to explore one's gender identity safely (no matter what kind of identity it may be) instead of having to hide it from a parent is so rare and wonderful 🌈✨ Hope your brother comes around when he sees how it benefits your son!

Drag Queen Storytime: If you don't want your children to see drag queens, don't take them. However, you do not get to tell me how to raise my child and who we can accept.
I love drag Queens I love that these amazing fun people want to take time out of their day to read to children, they are just dressing up in fun clothes and educating kids what Is wrong with that? I bet they take their kids to Disney land and let their kids talk to strangers dressed up as cartoon characters and giant ducks, dogs, and mice.

@@neurodivergentlyblog8882 I find that kinda funny tbh. I mean, the reason conservative religious people hate gay people is that they're having "sinful sex". I have friend who works as a teacher. She showed her students a documentary about a disabled woman wanting equality and dignity, and in class discussion one of the students summarised the documentary as “the woman wants everyone else to be disabled like her.” That has been stuck in my head for days now; it really speaks volumes about how certain folk view people that are different from them. Also, hearing it from a child is particularly depressing.
I mean... She's simplified an idea I had. If we can find some way to biologically paralyze someone from the waist down and fix it without causing harm, or any number of physical afflictions, we could theroetically use it to be more empathic. It's much easier to sympathize with someone if you've been in their situation.
Hi. I'm Autistic and also work with kids. I think something like that could be an opening for discussion. A response like, "is that what equality means? That everyone looks the same or does things the same way?" Could open the conversation up to improve understanding. Depending on the age group, they may already know about the Civil rights movement somewhat so, you could follow up with, "when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was working for equality for Black people, did he want to change the world so that there was ONLY Black people, or did he want people to be treated the same and respected the same, and have access to the same things regardless of their skin color?" They'll most likely respond with, "he wanted people to be treated the same," because Black history is such a big part of our education (while disability education is sorely lacking), so you might follow up like, "well, this woman wants the same thing for disabled people that Dr. King wanted for people of color, to be respected and treated with kindness regardless of their disability. She doesn't want to be excluded or given, 'special treatment,' and she doesn't want to change everyone else to be disabled, she wants to be treated like a person and have access to the same things everyone else does. She just might need some help in order to do that."
@@evangonzalez7732 you don't necessarily need to sympathize with someone in order to empathize with them. This is where the dual empathy comes in: emotional empathy and cognitive empathy. Emotional empathy is feeling with someone and caring about the fact that they feel the way they do. Cognitive empathy is understanding WHY someone feels the way they do and putting value on it because it makes sense. I'm Autistic and I'm really strong in emotional empathy, but not so much with cognitive empathy. I don't often understand why something makes someone feel a certain way, unless it is something I have experience with, but I feel it with them and it matters to me if something is harming them. I also have a very strong sense of right/wrong and justice. All this to say, it's possible to care about how ableism affects people without having to experience a certain disability yourself. I have no experience with being a wheelchair user, but I do understand that it's not right that someone should be restricted in the places they have access to simply because they can't or struggle to walk.

16:56 I grew up around ONLY heterosexual people, had ONLY heterosexual relationships shown in the cartoons I watched and books I read as a kid, and was ONLY told I would grow up to be in a heterosexual relationship (with a man, because I am gurl). Heterosexuality was crammed down my throat from day 1. And yet, here I am, queer af and going around in circles thinking about a girl I went to school with almost a decade ago!
I'm bi, and graduated in 05, but I feel you on still thinking about certain girls I knew. Pretty sure most of them were straight, though. I was much too shy at the time to find out.
@@sweariefaerie9621 I grew up in a conservative area and had so much going on (school, mental health, stressful home life) that I didn’t even have time to think about my sexuality. I knew I liked guys because I found certain boys I knew cute and thought of certain actors as hot. But once I got out of school and did some research into different sexualities for a book I was writing, I found a label that I just liked and that was when I realized I was queer lol It also doesn’t help my situation that I met the girl I’ve been thinking about twice about 2 or 3 years ago and just suddenly realized how pretty she’s always been and that she’s STILL so pretty as a full grown woman. Before I moved to another state, I tried to send her a friend request so I could at least say hi her every once in a while. We used to be friends in school, not close, but she was on of the few popular pretty girls that was nice to me and was patient with my ADHD/autistic weirdness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until AFTER I sent the friend request that I remembered a) I updated my FB name after I had changed my legal name and b) my profile pic was of a cartoon lesbian couple’s canon kiss, not me lol
Heterosexuality wasn’t crammed down your throat. You act as if that happened to you literally. Watching cartoons wit straight relationships is the norm. Is there a problem wit that??
@@GothboiKenzy yes straight people can be in media, does your smooth brain feel so good for knowing that? The problem was, they would smash together the most problematic couples like a toddler does when playing with toy cars and trying o simulate an accident because little child brain think its the funniest thing in the world. The hetero relationships that were crammed down my throat as a kid 9 out of 10 were toxic and problematic as HELL, but because it was a hot guy and hot girl it was supposed be a good couple. They never had anything in common, always argued, always played mind games, never trusted or communicated with each other, and where portrayed as “hashtag couple goals” the entire time. And no kid’s shows ever showed any alternative to cis and straight. No lesbians, no gays, no gender queer characters, not even any happily single people. EVERYONE had to have a partner (or at least a love interest) of the opposite gender by the time the story wrapped up. I read a book were a girl fell in love with a American Civil War GHOST and ended up SETTLING for a living guy ONLY because she helped the ghost move on to the after life. And it was set up to be a “feel good love story.” There were books girls HATED this one boy for no reason other than “he’s annoying” (which he wasn’t, he was just politely friendly) but she ends up in love wit( him by the end because he shows her he’s a “good guy” ONCE and all of a sudden he’s God’s gift to the world. My niece once asked me the pronouns of a genderless slime creature in a roleplaying game, and I was so proud, both that she wanted to adopt the slime and that she's so open and accepting of topics I would have been utterly clueless about at her age.
It always cracks me up how we get called "snowflake" and "soft" and overly sensitive constantly by the same people who completely loose their minds any time a black or queer person or a woman gets any level of media representation. Like, I watch Ben Shapiro vids and daily wire vids to laugh at them and because I'm a masochist, and so many of their videos are "Disney is too woke, theres a gay character" or "batman is woke because Gordon is played by a black guy". It's just unreal. Any time I'm watching a TV show or a movie I'm watching for entertainment and evaluating the media based on how enthralling the story is, and how dynamic and realistic the characters are. I have literally never once watched a piece of media and cared about the race, or gender/gender identity, or sexuality, etc. of any character. Yet, I watched Shapiro's review of the new batman and 80% of his commentary was "this character is black, and this one is a woman of color, and this one is queer, and i have no actual comment in the actual character development or depth because I'm an identity politics obsessed little snowflake bitch who wants all media to be carbon copies of dirty harry or leave it to Beaver"
Context: I was a cashier with a nametag that had "they/them" pronouns on it. Customer sees my nametag: "Are they making you put that on there?" Me: "No, I put it there." Like, sir, if 2 little words on my nametag are "killing" you, how are WE the snowflakes? 😂 (He didn't even have to use said 2 words at any point in the exchange lol.)

16:45 My mom is an older lady. She's always been open minded, but she is, simply by age, a boomer. One time she said "I don't understand flying a flag showing that you're proud about being gay. I've never shouted that I'm proud of being straight." I just pointed out, "No one ever bullied you or hated you for being straight though." But unlike transphobes or homophobes, she listened and understood. It was just something new to her that she didn't understand.
I talked to my partner about this thing yesterday, "Why is it that the whole friend group is always gay?" or "why everyone is trans or gay now, it wasn't like that back then" or "why is everyone in the comments of a lgbtq youtuber suddenly realizing they're queer?" Here's the answer : No, it's not the lgbtq pheromones in the air omitting from them - it's simple human nature. Humans look for community. You look for people who have similar interests or you have similarities with, to feel belonging. A group of friends usually has one or multiple interests that bring them together or their personalities or opinions match in a way. It's always something connecting them. So: It's because being queer is a similarity between them, they feel that they belong together. Why isn't it weird that in a group of straight people no one wonders why all of them are straight? It WAS like that back then - It just wasn't allowed. Why would you openly admit to doing something that is illegal, or will get you hurt, abused or even killed. You would much rather stay quiet and have a chance to live a normal life. Because of community - A lot of people never get to actually learn about the lgbtq, many are closeted and stay closeted for a long time because they're not in a good environment or just assume everybody experiences what they do because they were never taught that there's more than straight or cis identities. They're not being brain washed, they're being taught. I learned spanish in school, I'm not turning spanish now. I learned geography, I'm not a mountain. I learned about politics though, and I've realized my position there, that I didn't know I had! I also tried some food and realized I didn't like it. You are learning, and now that lgbtq is more openly taught about, more people learn and realize things about themselves that they didn't know.
Exactly! People who don't learn always like... Oh it's just so more common nowadays. Its this fad. No! It's not! It's exactly as common as it was, but now there are safe places, and now it's not illegal, and I'm not going to lose my job for being found out most likely and if I do it's protected under law, and now I can actually get married, and all the other things that have changed between then and now. People aren't just deciding we're Queer or being turned we're feeling safer about being honest with who we are to the world
You guys hit the nail on the head when talking about it coming from a place of fearing education. I used to be homophobic in my teens cause I was raised in a Christian community. I literally thought the gays were stealing the rainbow from Christians lmao. Then I worked alongside several gay people at my job. Made friends with them. Wait, they’re just people like me? Immersion into a broader world forces you to question your upbringing, and that’s a good thing. I grew up and out of closed mindedness. It’s so frustrating to watch people choose to stay bigoted, especially in the Information Age.
It always kinda pisses me off when europeans make fun of americans for being failed by their education system, as if their government doesn't actively suppress certain learning because then people would stop voting against their own interest.
Oh its like someone I know at school his dad is the same age as all our grandparents so he hasn't had the most progressive upbringing and he met a gay couple and said 'you know what they're just normal' after having been kinda unsure about gay people. I think he has summed it up pretty well in that realisation that they're like him

It's so miserable how many parents force their kids to act a certain way (not just orientation or identity based, but interests, emotions, how to dress, etc. as well) due to fear that the children will be bullied. Instead of combating the actual problem, they choose to have their own kids change themselves.. Reality is that kids can be bullied for anything, regardless of how "normal" or "weird" they appear. Might as well just let them be themselves.

The irony being that their kids are more likely to become the bullies, because others don't fit the mould that their parents insist everyone must fit in. "That boy is wearing a pink top." I'm a Christian and I can vouch for 'the whole point is just to be a nice person and look after each other.' Yes, that's exactly it. The whole point of Christianity is that it's meant to be about love. Christianity to me means loving and accepting others unconditionally.
It's sad how many "christians" don't understand this. Saw an article just today about a group of parents suing a school over a curriculum they use to teach tolerance and reduce bullying. One of the mothers' arguement was that according to her evangelical Christian beliefs, "not all kinds of people deserve my child's empathy"
This is what I was taught growing up as a Catholic. I am now an atheist but still find this as the basic moral ground for everyone and it's strange when I see others in my own family have diverged from that path.
Not Christian at all but the part that gets me is that, as far as I know, God and Jesus only ever talked about love and forgiveness and tolerance, and anything that isn't that was just random people saying things that go directly against what was preached, and I'm just sitting here thinking that obviously those people were lured away from a good path by Satan why are you listening to them listen to your god! If the devil has any influence in the world then it's through those kinds of people.
i died of laughter when the David Tennant ABCs meme showed up. they tried to make a homophobic meme of David Tennant. the same David Tennant who's been wearing a rainbow shaped non-binary pin to lots of interviews just to show his support. plus he looks really cool with blue hair and some white eyeliner

Jamie, thanks for this video. My son has been socially transitioning for a couple of years and is starting the process of seeking medical intervention now. He's still underage, but fortunately we live in a state where parents are still allowed to raise their own kids. I think of myself as pretty knowledgeable about trans issues and we are super supportive of my son, but even though I know the regret rates for transition and how much happier and healthier trans people are when they are free to seek affirming care, we (his cis parents) still feel some anxiety about him starting medical transition. We're more concerned about it not going smoothly than about him regretting it later, and about the risks inherent in any medical treatment. Having just had surgery on my back a month ago myself, I don't want my baby boy to have to go through the pain of recovering from top surgery. Especially -- and this is where I confess my sins -- if there's a chance he might not "need" it. He could just keep wearing binders forever, right? Yeah, I know better than that. But my Mom brain looks at the options for medical transition and focuses on the risks, the dangers, the things that can't be reversed. Even though I know the stats, when it comes to my own child, it feels a lot scarier. The only think I can think of that's more frightening than him medically transitioning...is what might happen if he doesn't. This video helps me envision a real person on the end of that road. Seeing you address this issue at this moment in my life is a great reminder that the medical interventions are a process, but that they are a moment in time with lasting, positive, life-changing effects. I want that for my son, and this video is going in my playlist of videos that I send to friends and family who want to better understand my son's identity and transition. Thank you so much. You're doing such good work.
I am with you on that, I have 2 sons that are socially living as the boys they are my oldest son has started his testosterone treatment, my youngest is too young still (14) when they stopped living as girls and became the boys they knew they were they also became happy and confident. We renamed them, yes they got to be part of the process, but seeing as when a child is born parents name thier kids it was the same concept! So far they have been fine, but my youngest who guess to high school has the group that calls him all kinds of things, they also flip out because he has a boyfriend who is adorable and has been so good to my baby for 3 years now. Truly having these types of shows where they can watch people making fun of the dumb assumptions from hate-filled fascist makes them more able to laugh it off as well.
Honestly, the worst part about transitioning is the fact that most people who want to transition figure it out after they've already gone through puberty when it is far less optimal, and it's difficult to be confident that someone who is young enough to truly benefit from HRT during puberty will not regret their decision. Like, teenagers are already a pretty fickle bunch and pre-teens are more so and easily influenced, so it's difficult to know if you're doing the right thing for them by enabling their transition that early. If your child knows that their gender is not the same as their sex and they're dead set on remedying that, then your support is THE most meaningful thing you can give them. Even if you have some misgivings about surgery, that's fine. You guys can work through that together. Just knowing that you're there for them and you're willing to help them start that journey means the world to them. Also, top surgery is far easier to recover from compared to bottom surgery. Still, it's best to wait and see how much it is actually needed once the hormone replacement hits and there isn't a hormonal impetus to enlarge or sustain breasts. A lot of trans men experience considerable breast size shrinkage before undergoing their top surgery, particularly if they start it early because estrogen blockers are also a crucial factor for FTM HRT. While top surgery will still likely be necessary, the severity may not be as great as it could have been if HRT had been further delayed. Also, try to get a cosmetic surgeon for the process. The way they close wounds is fundamentally aimed at reducing and eliminating scarring. Unfortunately, this will mean a more significantly restricted range of motion during the recovery process because the sutures won't go through all of the layers of skin, it will result in less noticeable scarring once it has healed fully. With cosmetic surgeons, the ideal is to have multiple sub-cutaneous layers of sutures with biodegradable thread finished with surgical adhesive (basically what cyanoacrylate adhesives developed into) and adhesive-based wound closure dressings (similar to steri-strips) to add extra strength to the closure. Long story short: You're doing the right thing and you're a good mother. Your concerns are valid, your anxiety is valid. Talk through them with your son so both of you will be on the same page and you can work through them together.
@@mndlessdrwer Thanks for the kind words and for spitting straight-up facts! As an update, I no longer live in a state that allows parents to raise their own kids. I didn't move, but my state legislature held a special closed-door session to pass a law that prevents minors from accessing gender-affirming care, including HRT, even with parental consent and the recommendation of their medical practitioners. I'm livid. Fortunately, we were already pursuing HRT for my son, and he was able to start treatment just weeks before the law went into effect, allowing him to continue treatment under the grandfather clause. I know other families who weren't ready to start that part of the transition yet and ended up moving states. We would have done so as well if we'd needed to, but I also have an 18 year old who is in his final year of high school, and since we were able to get my younger son the care he needs (at least for now), we thought it best not to disrupt their education. On a happier note, my son is doing fantastic on T, and his voice has dropped enough already that he sounds almost exactly like his older brother. He's so delighted. He was able to come out to his aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents on his dad's side of the family, and everyone is on board (even my ~80ish yo, Catholic parents-in-law!) and they are doing a commendable job of using my son's correct pronouns. (He doesn't plan to change his name, since the one we gave him is gender neutral and he likes it.) My sister-in-law even commented at Thanksgiving that my son seems so much more confident and outgoing now, and it's true. He's really bloomed since starting T, and I feel so fortunate that we were able to give him access to that. As for future surgeries, he has actually told me that he's looking forward to having top surgery scars. He says he doesn't want to go stealth, he's proud of his trans identity, and he would view surgical scars as a badge of honor. He's even talked about getting a post-surgery tattoo across his chest that says "these used to be t!ts," lol. Pretty sure he's not serious about that, but it's a funny idea.

I really needed this today. My transphobic coworker was particularly vile towards me this morning, insisted I wasn't trans, and went so far that I had a panic attack in line to get coffee before my shift. It's been over ten hours sense and I'm still shaking, crying off and on, and exhausted. This has just been one of many things he's done or said that made me uncomfortable or not felt safe to be around him. And the kicker is that he's a white cis gay man who does drag. Unless you're trans, you don't get to dictate what is or is not transphobic or who is and isn't trans. I'm still trans even if I have size H melons that I can't get removed or can't wear a binder. I'm still trans because I AM trans. Nobody else gets to decide that but me. I am trans enough just because I exist. This video made me laugh and it helped me have the will to actually eat. The whole situation this morning resulted in me not eating for over twelve hours and I'm hypoglycemic so it's not the smartest decision but....I feel like I'm rambling, sorry. Just thanks. Seriously.
Here's a piece of medical information I think all trans men should know: Cisgender men can have a condition known as gynecomastia. Literally a cis man growing breasts. It's actually a lot more common than people think, especially mild cases or if the man is overweight. It's a lot like the discourse around "what is a woman" where there's 0 way to define a woman that excludes trans women without also excluding some cis women. Saying men can't have breasts is also saying millions of cisgender men aren't men!
Just want to second the above comment(s) and hope you are doing better now. Im so sorry you had to go through that panic attacks are horrible (i have had so many) however just know most of the time it is a way of our bodies trying to defend ourselves when it think its in danger. Certainly doesnt detraft how horrible it is to go through tho. If i may, some things that help with anxiety/panic ive found has been using a paper bag to breath in to (so you get co2 to your brain and reduce the feeling of wanting to pass out) and if you get something hot or cold.... Cold tends to be better as more of a shock, like an ice cube or icepack and put it on the back of your neck/temple and try to focus on that, it really helps as it gives you something to even for a moment direct your brain to something other than what is going on internally, and can be enough to bring you out of it sometimes. these techniques are science based with how our brain works but obviously everyone is different but hopefully, if you find yourself in a similar situation in the future i really hope this helps x stay well and remember no one really knows anything except you and the only person who really know you is you. Also sorry for the long message.

The "phobia" that really made me move away from "only fear" is trypophobia, which I've had for most of my life. My gf and I taught a class about the history of certain racial or homophobic slurs, and why they're bad, my other two friends taught a class on different pride flags, two senior prefects taught about coming out and another senior prefect explained pronouns and gender. Despite the kids in my school not having the best thoughts of people who are different, every class I taught was respectful, or as respectful as a class of countryside 11-16 year olds can be when being taught about slurs and flags. I think a "diversity day" is a really good way to teach kids about people who are different to them, when their own environment isn't particularly diverse.
oh this seems so lovely, i would've loved to have something like this at any school i went to !! an inclusive principal sounds just heavenly oh gods i am so happy this is/was a thing somewhere :']
I actually convinced someone to try and change their view! It was a japanese american man who was saying that being gay is wrong, and i asked him "why?" And he said "because they use being gay as an excuse to not have to deal with consequences" and i asked him what he was talking about and he said that when he was in school him and his friend would often get called very racist things and be bullied by this group of people who happened to be LGBT, and I said that thats horrible that something like that would happen, but if hes expirienced racism he should know how it feels to be hated for something someone else did, and as the smart man he is, he should know that even if that was horrible, just because it was someone doesnt mean it is everyone. He almost cried and said that he'll try to change his view, but it'll be difficult and I said that the fact he's giving it a shot is good enough for me. I was 12 at the time, this man was a 38 year old doctor. I changed the view of a full grown adult by just being kind. I know this story sounds very fake, so you dont have to believe me, but just think about how little that was to me and how big that was to him. Its worth it!
I learnt nothing lgbtq+ at school. They actually gave everyone a pocket Bible... even to the kids who were in another religion. But at school, I felt so out of place because I was nothing like the girls around me. I was the most tomboy person there. Which is why I didn't have many friends. I was also very confused on why I don't get any pleasure when masturbating or liked looking at that stuff like everyone else, I tried so hard to be "normal" but I would end up getting down on myself. Nothing would work. Only like 3 years after high school, I found out more about myself through the internet. Finding out im Asexual only recently and that I'm nonbinary or a demiboy? I don't know im still finding myself out there, but I do know when I look in the mirror, I don't see a woman, I see a boyish face 😁 (not on hrt) who is happy with themselves in the first time in years.
Now, i don’t know where you are, so it might be different since i’m going off american laws but… isn’t it illegal to treat certain religions like this in school? You don’t teach religion unless it’s on a educational level, not giving people pocket bibles.

Martin Luther King Jr. was working for equality for Black people, did he want to change the world so that there was ONLY Black people, or did he want people to be treated the same and respected the same, and have access to the same things regardless of their skin color?"
They'll most likely respond with, "he wanted people to be treated the same," because Black history is such a big part of our education (while disability education is sorely lacking), so you might follow up like, "well, this woman wants the same thing for disabled people that Dr.

@@sweariefaerie9621 I grew up in a conservative area and had so much going on (school, mental health, stressful home life) that I didn’t even have time to think about my sexuality. But once I got out of school and did some research into different sexualities for a book I was writing, I found a label that I just liked and that was when I realized I was queer lol
It also doesn’t help my situation that I met the girl I’ve been thinking about twice about 2 or 3 years ago and just suddenly realized how pretty she’s always been and that she’s STILL so pretty as a full grown woman. Before I moved to another state, I tried to send her a friend request so I could at least say hi her every once in a while.

I just pointed out, "No one ever bullied you or hated you for being straight though."
But unlike transphobes or homophobes, she listened and understood. It was just something new to her that she didn't understand.
I talked to my partner about this thing yesterday, "Why is it that the whole friend group is always gay?" or "why everyone is trans or gay now, it wasn't like that back then" or "why is everyone in the comments of a lgbtq youtuber suddenly realizing they're queer?"
Here's the answer :
No, it's not the lgbtq pheromones in the air omitting from them - it's simple human nature.
It WAS like that back then -
It just wasn't allowed.
Well said
@ij that is very very well written! thank you
People aren't just deciding we're Queer or being turned we're feeling safer about being honest with who we are to the world
Beautifully said

It's so miserable how many parents force their kids to act a certain way (not just orientation or identity based, but interests, emotions, how to dress, etc. as well) due to fear that the children will be bullied. Instead of combating the actual problem, they choose to have their own kids change themselves.. Reality is that kids can be bullied for anything, regardless of how "normal" or "weird" they appear. Might as well just let them be themselves.
my parents worked so hard to make sure i wasn't bullied for acting too neurodivergent or queer (i.e. pressuring me to fit a mold as closely as possible), only for me to be picked on for my race
@@actualgoblin that’s painfully yet hilariously ironic 😭😭
My dad when telling me as a teenager, that I should change my skinny jeans before going to a barbershop. Needless to say I don't go there anymore. They took too long and would have some person (the person wasn't coming to get their haircut, but talk), and it would take forever.

I was raised Catholic and I had this sweet nun in my catechism classes who basically was asking us all the time about what WE thought about Jesus words and I remember things like Jesus being a supporter of marginalized groups, paying taxes, not very fond of people amassing fortunes, loving everybody, modest about his own blessings, mostly respectful, don't judging because only God knows everything and all of us make mistakes, and only angry when people made a profit from religion… so… neat… as I grew older I disconnected myself from religion and I'm mostly agnostic, but those messages stayed with me.
Got asked in church earlier today that if we were to write a gospel, what would we say the most important stuff was to show people about who Jesus was, and my answer was just that he was one of the people. He was with us, he spent his time hanging out with thieves and prostitutes and he loved us all. The only people he ever really criticised were hateful self-righteous people like the modern day homophobic "Christians."
The nun truly embodied what Christianity should be

You're doing such good work.
r/TheStraightsAreOk 😊 All the best to your family. Hope everything goes as smooth as it can.

16:53 this made me snort so loud, it's literally the exact opposite lol. I was getting a ride from my conservative grandma, and because it had stopped raining, I pointed out the rainbow. She then went on and lectured me about how God created the Rainbow as a sign that the Noah flood was coming to an end and that gays had appropriated it.
I was literally just pointing out how pretty it was, i wasn't trying to make any statements on LGBT+ topics 😭
best accomplishment of the lgbtq community is the time we collectively stole the rainbow from god. good times
A gay joke I came up with: I invented gay poker. It’s regular poker except a straight is called a gay and a pair of queens is called a Yass
We have two children and they're growing up learning that it's ok to love the person you love. We have male/female, male/male, female/female and a trans male/female couple in our friends group. The trans man was giving birth to their baby before they transitioned and the woman in this relationship was even able to breastfeed the baby. It was an amazing experience to see how strong relationships work. My oldest child is correcting friends at school, when they claim that only heterosexual relationships are right. Of course, in their own way with the words of a first grader, but I'm really proud. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Can I ask why you separated male/female and trans male/female? A trans man in a relationship with a woman would still be straight..
@@torrinashley6076 Of course, but in the next sentence I described this particular relationship a bit more. That's why 😉
@@Sallyfaceoff Ah. I see
@Ville Yes. Trans men are men who were assigned female at birth
@Ville Why are you even on a trans guy's page if you're just going to be transphobic? Trans men are men
me and my other gay friends reclaimed the homophobic dog meme and now anytime we’re vaguely gay we just go”I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE” to each other

@@racheleden9008 I thought it was because my nb sibling told me it was made by a gay couple.

@ij ikr
Fun fact, the homophobic dog meme is actually a saga of the dog going from homophobic to accepting!
The "phobia" that really made me move away from "only fear" is trypophobia, which I've had for most of my life. I'm not fearful of small holes and irregular patterns, but the sight does make me incredibly uncomfortable and grossed out. So, from that lens, people who are homophobic and transphobic use that discomfort and revulsion as an excuse to be hateful.
GAYS ARE SCARYYYYY
The difference is for them it's nothing clinical
fun fact about the homophobic dog: most if not all of the images are satire made by queer people!! there is also a string of images where the dog learns to not be homophobic and comes out as bi! its probably my favorite meme lol
She also has two dads and models for the camera on their tiktok
Ive seen it used for normalizing being homophobic so i dont personally think its that great.
24:35 I'm a prefect in my school and I'm also a trans guy, my sister (senior prefect) and I convinced the teacher to let us make a student taught "gay day" or as it was called "diversity day".
Next, your gonna start endocternation our kids with globe earth, evolushun, medsin, n diskal warmin!
oh this seems so lovely, i would've loved to have something like this at any school i went to !! an inclusive principal sounds just heavenly oh gods i am so happy this is/was a thing somewhere :']
What a lunatic ig stay single and sad forever being "nombinary"

I'm not sure I can accept calling OT wholesome in this video after his rather detailed info on poop statistics
@Lister Smeg a creator is someone who makes things and posts it. A good creator is someone who tries to be a safe space for people suffering, or someone you WANT to watch. Clearly they’re not a content creator that you like, so why are you here?

5:57 yeah most of voting in America is “would you like to vote for this bad option, or this significantly worse option?” And most people choose the bad option instead of the worse one
This year, they chose the significantly worse one.
I do like the fact that they are so adamant to not teach kids about LGBTQ+ so kids don't become gay but during primary we were taught about religion and I'm not religious. We weren't taught about being gay but I'm gay and trans

Hmmmm..... remember that shit I put on my face all the time? It works, bitches.
My sister never learned any geography in school. She’s been trying to teach herself, but they literally didn’t have a single geography lesson from kindergarten to 12th grade. She went to a private, religious school.

I remember when I was new to the lgbt community and someone said to me that I was just doing it to feel special or for attention. I actually started to second guess myself and got pretty depressed for a while. These things can hurt people and it’s not okay
When I was, like, 16 or 17, my dad said I only say I'm asexual for attention. I reminded him he didn't have to worry about his eldest daughter getting pregnant before she finishes high school.
I mean with the type of attention we get from those kinds of people makes me wonder what on earth are they on about 😅 Attention, like people telling you you don't exist to your face? Attention, like being called names for existing? Attention, like having to possibly live in fear every day because you're not in a safe family/town/country?

"Dachshund" is German and means "badger dog" because they were used to hunt badgers. If you want to pronounce it like we would say it in Germany, here is your guide:
OT got the pronounciation of "Hund" pretty well, just pronounce the D more like a T and you are there!
Dachs is easy, too: Just say the Englisch "ducks" - you know, the swimming birds and you are really, really close. If you can fake a german accent while saying ducks in Englisch, you're saying badger in German :D
27:20 From what I understood, the term "woke" was first used around the end of the Civil Rights movement by black people who basically said "Okay, they gave us those rights but we need to remain vigilent because they could very well go backward or attack us in other ways."
I think it's a common misconception to think that "woke" means awakened to some sort of new state of consciousness and enlightenment common people can't reach (which the detractors will obviously see as coming from a place of pretentiousness), it's rather "Not letting yourself be put to sleep by sweettalking and false promises" and suggests everyone was awake (to an extent) in the first place.
Interesting history, thanks

I love the "biology argument" because there's actually some biological evidence that biology selects homosexuality in some instances (e.g. when a mother has multiple boys in a row the younger are more likely to be gay because it means less competition in the dating pool and more support in families or something along those lines)
