Its great seeing friends come together and knock out a cam swap. That's some good content there. I'm stuck at the moment because my new transmission just took a shit so I'm back to replacing that before I do my cam lol
My Mopar valve covers have never leaked. Just finished my cam/heads install. Cam bearings were the worst part. Cam, cam bearings, heads, rockers, lifters, timing set are in, running a P.I.E. tune. Finally a little hp and the 4:11 gears got some badly needed torque. Good video, but for those who are gonna do a cam, DON'T ignore the bearings. 4 times now, I've seen guys think they were okay, and all 4 times, they weren't. VERY expensive to do a tear down and rebuild including ANOTHER cam, just because they didn't spend a little time.
Yeah I agree! I was warned they are usually badly worn before I started taking it apart. I got SUPER lucky though and they had been replaced pretty recently along the same time the lifters seemed to be replaced on this used engine we picked up!
What’s the link to the valve springs and retainers , currently having trouble finding some for my truck while it’s apart at the shop, please and thanks it’ll be highly appreciated!
Really enjoy following your build videos as I am hoping to do alot of these mods to my 00 Amber fire cc rt. Keep up the hard work, really appreciate it!
We actually had them almost all the way out, but you can't remove them with the heads on in that motor. You can lift them almost entirely out and slightly angle them so they can't slip back in though. Good point though for anyone who doesn't know to do that. Haha
@@apexaddict302 i was just there helping John out. He did most of the work and is the one making all the awesome videos! I just turn wrenches sometimes. Haha
Awesome BM《☆》Your air compressor sounds like the alarm clock my parents gave me when I was a tweenager🔊Wow I wonder if the lifters are OK fellas ?🤔If the Cam looks bad then the lifters may be on the way out :*: Greetings from⛾Florida🤳my friends🤓🗣🔊☮✌👍🏾
valve covers just need maybe to be leveled flat etc, we used to tap with a hammer where the bolts go etc,an get them flat an even, usually mopar performance is good stuff i thought..
If the cam is mild enough, you could get away with it, but 2 things. 1) why put in a cam if you wanna go super mild? 2) even if you did get away with it, the tune wouldn't be optimized so that already mild cam wouldn't be performing at peak so even less useful cam install. Moral of the story.. get a cam and a tune
Best Dakota build on you tube , The craftsman ship, in the end is sick .. I own the same truck #237, intense blue … inspiring
Ice cream truck at 7:28.
I was sketchy on doing this job myself but after this video i have more confidence in doing it now.
I always run a quart of Marvel Mystery at every oil change. Engine stays super clean. No Shmoo.

@Rob Roy did you have yours done locally?

@@BoostedMotorsports what was your exact set up for this build along with the specs. Thank you😎
What are the specs of the cam and what valve springs did you use
Hell yeah. This was a good wrench session. Everyone should be excited for part 2!

Felpro metal/rubber gaskets solve the oil leak issue. I run them with my Mopar covers on my 340.
Those mopar valve covers, just run them over a large peace of sand paper, in progression grits, on a flat surface. I would try that first.
Sweet! She's coming together.
Whats the cam that you used thinking of putting the same one in my dakota
Can't wait for part two! Hope you are using cam lube and not oil that sucker will go flat like in 10 minutes of break in.😎👍

What valve springs did u use
hello, can you post here the springs valves kit part number???
thanks
Why not rotate the piston to top dead center to keep the valves from falling in instead of holding them up with compressed air?
Hey big fan here just really want to know what cam did you use because I have a 5.9 magnum to and want to know please let me know
If you going Turbo you really don't need to change cam, unless you looking for upwards of 600HP to wheels ...
Any chance we could get a part # for the proper springs that you used?
The ol dog bone keepers ! , if you put it in backwards you get double the lift
Nice video. A bit risky not removing lifters on a cam swap. One accidental bump and they can slip into the lifter bore and down into the pan.

@@MtyMous Makes sense. Good work man. I have a 5.2 RC 5 speed manual. Love the trucks and your vids.

How much power can you get out of a 5.9 magnum?

i wonder if its like the old 360 cam etc, have to warm it up 20 minutes at 2000 r pm,or whatever it was,am 103 an hard to remember, lol
That's how u break in a flat tapped cam. He has a roller cam.
I can not find a performance cam for my 02 5.9 magnum anywhere at all
Hughes Engines
Great video man! Lookin forward to the next one
Just installed new cam. Now computer is not reading mod. Any suggestion?
Funny how i found this channel right when im building the 5.2l for my dakota
Lol ditto

Party time!
I simply put every piston at tdc and changed the each stek seal. No air needed.
Please tell me I'm from Georgia, I also have a Dodge Durango 2000 5.9 eats butter, is this normal? thank!!!!
where did you get camshaft, and part #
Would I have to do a tune if I did the cam and valve springs and rocker arms

Yup! Mtymous is correct! Cam knows Cams 🤣🤟
Sounds stupid but can I change the computer from an OBD1 to obd2
Cam is dressed for success.
What's the part number or link to this cam I doing the exact same work that you have done
Will this work with a 03 dodge Durango 5.9 L?
Does this truck have stock internals?
Set the alarm. This should be good!
is there any way you can share the part number of the cam? Thanks!
Pause the video at 10:03 and you can see all of the specs. It's a custom grind cam.
a dodge dealer has to phase in the distributor with a computer anytime it is removed. there are hack ways to do it as a temp solution.
Do you have a part number for that cam?
It's a custom grind

Do they make a cam for the v6
Why no link for the cam?
Good time for valve seals...
Were you saying those valve covers have a reputation of leaking?? i actually just snagged a 100% brand new set for my channel lol
Part number on cam?
But you can’t replace the valves with the tool
this is not exactly like old 360,s from 70,s an 80,s it seems,im lost totally on anything on mine..
Damn, I was gonna buy those valve covers soon, but if they leaking like that, no thanks
