Stellar job, you lazy bastard! That is exactly what I had envisioned my build to look like, but, I truly am lazy. All my storage is still a few plastic totes.
Why thank you, I went the lazy tote thing for a long time. Don't know what got into me to get off my lazy ass and build this...totally unlike me.
Glad to see someone also enjoys two wheels Adv !! I ahve a WR 250, I love it for exploring by yourself. I don't want to overland on four wheels, just to get me to some remote campsites, and then explore on 2 wheels !! Good work !! thx for posting
Thanks Kevin. I like any wheeled vehicle that get's me to remote locations.
1 year later, you inspirate my work very much. Thanks you.
Thank you!
This build is amazing, Great Job!
cool, light carpet looks good and feels good. Greetings from Switzerland
Thanks for the detailed video. Now I feel confident I can start my own for my 80 Series land cruiser
Glad the video was useful for you Hernan.
Thank you for the video and it helped my understanding about the process
Noah, nice build! Thanks for sharing... 😁👍
Man that's freaking awesome I did a shelf system in my 4th gen
Man that cooler mount is SICK. I’ve always thought if you chose to mount a cooler in the dual drawers that you’d lose drawer space but you really executed that well.
Thank you Sir, I appreciate it.
A little late to the game but Great job, I like the double length drawer, great idea. Thank you
AWESOME! Thanks for sharing.
Ubolts are a great idea! Wish id seen this before i put my boxes on!
And a heck of a lot cheaper than the mounts Roam sells.
Great work I am going to copy this. Thanks for the detailed video!
You're welcome, glad you like it. Good luck with yours.
I found this video by following the link in the other. Thank you both!
Great job, gives me a lot of ideal to change out my drawer in my Gen4, and add a sleeping platform. I had a teardrop trailer but sold and I’m not a big fan of RTT’s
Thanks Ken. I'm not a fan of RTT's either.
One reason I removed my DIY drawer system was due to weight. One thing you could to do lighten it up is cut weight reduction holes in non-essential plywood spots. Build looks clean and sturdy though!
I was a little concerned about weight, but I do have the heaviest springs front and back to compensate for all the weight I added. I did make it as light as possible, but didn't want to lose any functionality.
Cool build. Wish you showed more of the construction process as I’m not super versed in woodworking.
I am really wanting to build something light and simple as I’m wanting to keep my T4R as light as possible.
I know I should have done a better job at recording this, but I was more focused on building it. This is certainly not light.
Nice work
Nice work sir! Innovative
Thank you Mike.
Good job!!
Very cool. Good job!
Thanks Jim
Looks real good! Bad ass!!
Wow love it
This is an amazing setup. Cant buy these made since they cost so much. Want to make a set but dont know where to start I have the same truck.
Really nice man, good work!
Thanks Ernesto. They do cost a lot, that is why I wanted to make my own. Still not cheap, but much more affordable. It took me a while to start, but one weekend I just got up and started. Once going, it wasn't bad. Good luck and get building.
The Grumpy Gobbler gonna tackle this next weekend do you remember what size drawer slides you used?
@@4estrnr472 I used 30" slides
You can staple tarp pieces to create pockets or buckets to fill the gaps and prevent things from going everywhere. Easy way out for under storage where your second row seat should be
Looks great
Thank you!
Thank you
Nice
Have you heard of a cot that will fit in the back ??
I've been scouring UA-cam and 4Runner forums for weeks and this is the first one I've seen that I was like, "thats exactly what I want" as far as the drawers go. Do you have the plans for this? I'm not so much interested in the bed but the drawers are almost dead on to what I'm looking for. Or maybe the measurements? If not its cool, I'm glad you at least linked the supplies.
Sorry, don't have plans, I kind of made it up as I went along. I also don't have any measurements, but could take some if you would like. I do know the drawers are 30" deep.
@@TheGrumpyGobbler would it be possible if you can send me your measurements? I’m planning on tackling a project like this since I have so much time up here now.
@@jameskeenmillare6784 I didn't write down the measurements as I was building. I can take some, any particular measurements you need?
I need to sit up with knees bent, feet down. Can a single drawer work ok, maybe as wide as seat & console?
Yes, I think it would. I was thinking of redoing my sleeping system and only having 1 drawer or even none.
How many inches are those slides? you can choose different sizes on the website.
They are 30 inches
Do the drawers work with the back seats in place?
I have removed the back seats, but the drawers would work if I put them back in.
What are the wood dimensions for the cross beams?
Sorry, I forgot what they were and I'd have to take the whole thing apart to measure them.
Where are you located? I will hire you for my 2020 TRD!
Ha! Couldn't pay me to do another one, I was almost too lazy to do mine
@@TheGrumpyGobbler HA! I can relate to that! Thanks for replying!
Do you have plans to share ?
Sorry Ryan, I do not. I was kind of making it up as went
What was your total cost in building this? Do you have any resources/plans that you followed?
I probably have around $750 into this. The biggest expense were the slides ($160 a set).
I do not have plans, I was winging it the whole time.
@@TheGrumpyGobbler Couple of more questions:
1.) do you have the total amount of each item you ordered for the links above? (sizes of rails, qty etc.)
2.) How did you mount the boards to the bottom frame initially?
@@ChrisEddlemon Here is a link to the slides I got (30"). They are cheaper now.
drawerslidesinc.com/drawer-slides/product/500-lb-full-extension-lock-in-lock-out-drawer-slide/
I mounted a sheet of 3/4" plywood to the rear of the 4Runner and then built the box with the drawers and screwed it down onto that plywood piece.
Why didn't you use the 1/4-1/4-1/4 method to install the drawers properly. You just screwed the ends together.
What’s the height of the platform??
From the floor in the back or the floor in the second row?
@@TheGrumpyGobbler from the floor in the back..
@@Ricky2clean About 9.5 inches
@@TheGrumpyGobbler thank you..
Man i wish you showed the measurements so we dont need to measure and just make jt 😁
Cost mentioned?
Total cost was probably about $750. The drawer slides were the most expensive part, about $170 a pair
It's going to be way too heavy! I made my frame out of extruded aluminium it cut down the weight so much plus wood gets moldy when wet.
Have you heard of a cat that will fit in the back
Hello Mike, your first comment gave me a laugh, any "cat" would fit in the back :-)
I know you meant cot, I have not measured, but I believe there would be some shorter cots that would fit with the seat moved forward.
music sucks
