Hearing how Hitler gave up on those surrounded men and told them to 'heroically die' always makes my blood boil. Imagine how it could be for them, knowing that no other options left just to die...on the battle field, or as a POW, doesn't really matter.
I like this song, it's raw and dark, fits this long, desperate battle. I love Joakim's voice in it, his deep, slower singing. Ok, I love his voice in every song, but here especially. I have a thing for deep male vocals (as most women, I guess 😀). The story with Dr. Alban is hilarious, and ironic.

The deal with Hitler abandoning the 6th armee to it's fate was part of the reason Hitler stopped listening to his generals. TIK explains this in Case Blue. It does make my blood boil too. that's too many men to have given up on. but the German generals in command that lead to the surrounding of the 6th were at fault as well.

I admit that when my wife first introduced me to Sabaton's music, Joakim's deep voice surprised me. Then I realized he was singing about D-Day, and I've been a fan ever since. When listening to power metal, I expect screams, not baritone vocals. lol

A funny story I have that’s sorta connected to Stalingrad, a few years ago I dated this girl from Germany, apparently one of her grandfathers was a veteran of Stalingrad and was able to come out alive. Anyways as I was in her country meeting her family I finally met her one of grandparents. I’m nervous as all hell remembering how this guys was in the Wehrmacht and survived one of the deadliest battles in history. Meeting him though, he was very nice, kind and welcoming. Later on in the day I decided to ask him about his experience in the military, and as my gf was translating for me paused and said “Daniel he was an officer” in which I replied “Right and officer in Stalingrad?” After I said that her grandmother and father burst out laughing. Why? Because this wasn’t the same one I was thinking about, and then remembered how he died of old age....

@@badluckbrian46 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_No._227 Order No. 227 was an order issued on 28 July 1942 by Joseph Stalin, who was acting as the People's Commissar of Defence. It is known for its line "Not a step back!" (Russian: Ни шагу назад!, romanized: Ni shagu nazad!), which became the primary slogan of the Soviet press in summer 1942.[1]
The order established that each front must create one to three penal battalions, which were sent to the most dangerous sections of the front lines.[2] From 1942 to 1945, a total of 422,700 Red Army personnel were sentenced to penal battalions as a result of courts-martial.[3] The order also directed that each army must create "blocking detachments" at the rear that would shoot "panic-mongers and cowards".[1] In the first three months, blocking detachments shot 1,000 penal troops and sent 24,000 to penal battalions. By October 1942, the idea of regular blocking detachments was quietly dropped.[4]
Intended to galvanise the morale of the hard-pressed Red Army and emphasize patriotism, it had a generally detrimental effect and was not consistently implemented by commanders who viewed diverting troops to create blocking detachments as a waste of manpower. On 29 October 1944, blocking detachments were disbanded by Stalin's order No. 349 citing the changed situation at the front.[5][6]

There where stories of dogs, cats, even rats throwing themselves into the freezing Volga River to escape the hell on earth. In one particular Russian Diary, he wrote "All that remains of the city are stones and men, and even the stones are no longer permanent." Russians fought in grain silos, that where set alight, and refused to surrender, even heavy artillery would be unable to convince them to surrender or break. Workers, civilians mind you, still worked on tanks in bombed out factories, many rolling off the assembly line with only a few shells and straight into battle, workers where drafted into the infantry when they ran out of material to make tanks, bullets, shells, as the city was never evacuated. I would put Stalingrad well above no man's land in the great war.

Try Red Orchestra, far more historically accurate and realistic.
Also the moaning and screams of people dying or wounded, the voice actors (in perfect German and Russian) did a good enough of a job convincing us that a real person just died horrible.

  • @wojszach4443

If anyone is interested in Stalingrad battle, Red Orchestra 2 is game that is quite serious, and managing to show brutality of war with mood of melancholy and making you think about hell of war. Imagine this scene, that i still remember from 4 years ago. You run into a building, you fire your mauser at Ivan, you hit his chest, he holds the wound as he slides on the floor and that expression on his face, it stares not on your character but on you through screen.

Tango was very popular in Russia, one of the songs played to Germans in the cauldron was 'Tango De La Muerte" accompanied with audio of a clock ticking and "every second a German soldier dies, Stalingrad, the grave of Germans". Then the Katusha guns would fire.
