Hello sir , Just wanted to say I appreciate all of the knowledge and insight your sharing with us ! I’m a amateur kickboxer/ Muay Thai athlete and instructor out of San Diego ,California and you have been a massive influence on my mentality and approach to completion , and professionalism in fight sports . Much love from the lower states! , X.B. 👊🏿🤠
I did both for few years in amateur tournaments 3 wins and 6 proudly losses.... my feedback for you people is. In thai the fight can end with just one kick at you, even if you know where is coming from or block it..., in kick boxing you need to be ready for speed combinations coming at you from 10 different angles...
I do Muay Thai, but kickboxing is an amazing martial art too! You help me out so, so much in Muay Thai with your videos, and I bet you help every Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer become better. Thank you so much for your videos.
I lost my first IKF amateur fight. Modified Muay Thai rules. I got kicked in the balls twice. Didn't matter cause I sucked pretty bad. I'll be back though. Time to go harder.
Who here competes in both sports and finds the transition between rules no big deal? Or do you take the whole fight camp to real focus on the rules of your next fight?
I am a good kick boxer and for the last year I have been training and fighting Muay Thai. It was very easy for me because I would out box them and my kicking was good too. All I needed to do was be good at checking kicks and learn little bit of clinch.
This video was great....although it was expected you'd suggest that thai fighters improve hands , I'm glad you ALSO suggested that kickboxers improve clinch.... 100 percent agree that both weapons must be refined... I love mixing both in muay thai
Another sick video you the man Gabriel! Many of us here are doing cross disciplines of kickboxing muay thai... Think you could do a video detailing Buakaws kickboxing experience vs his muay thai? His style change, results, etc

I notice since In glory you can’t sweep anymore, I see a lot of guys use a “catch and release” style where they’ll catch the kick and then fire a left hook, or they’ll “block and pass” the leg across then throw a low kick
Could you do a video going over combinations and tactics for southpaws? There’s a laundry list of “how to counter southpaws”, but not a lot of in depth videos on tactics and combinations vs orthodox or even other southpaws.
Why is clinch fighting considered a weakness in kickboxing? We train for the clinch as well. Just because one kickboxer used a heel sweep and tossed against another? It really depends on individual kickboxers and whether they are better at punching, kicking, or clinching fighting. But we do train for clinching, knees, sweeps, and low kicks. At least at most kickboxing gym I trained in from the 90s-early 2000s.. but is true that many kickboxing rules down allow kick catches, unless you also compete in shootboxing or sanshou competitions. Then the Kickboxers cross train in shootboxing and sanshou. And some cross train in Muay Thai as well. I have cross trained in each of those styles myself. When I became an instructor, myself and other coaches, train students for different rule sets, including MMA.
I wonder if you could do a similar style video with Karate, I know you started off as a Karateka, and become successful so I think ur opinion would be very interesting
Love your videos!! You’re one of the youtubers I watch that help me with my own training + give really good insight. Also, would you ever consider competing for the UFC?

I think Muay Thai not having good hands is a major disadvantage. Punches are really the only mid-range strikes someone can have. Pair this with the lack of foot mobility in Muay Thai and what you have is a style that'll have a rough road in a kickboxing match. I believe that's why most Muay Thai are modified to have boxing in it now, even though it isn't great because of the narrow stance and lack of footwork. I personally think trad Muay Thai is a very overrated style because the ability to change positions in a fight quickly is so important. Anyways that's my two cents. If you disagree, let me know.
The modern version of muay thai have this problem "thanks" to gambling, they only wanna see clinch and nothing more; if you go and watch the golden era muay thai you will see a lot of good boxers (even world champions on that) change angles and good movement. Its more a modern problem.
@@nestorarcilaosorio2457 I'm not denying that Muay Thai fighters can't transition to boxing. It's just that traditional Muay Thai does not teach good boxing habits at all. At it's core, trad MT is a kicking and clinching art.
vinkelitz hes not talking about muay thai fighter transitioning to boxing. hes talking about muay thai goats like samart payakaroon who had great boxing throughout his whole MT career.
@@TripleEightss What I meant to say was, Muay Thai fighters are capable of incorporating boxing techniques into their style. The existence of guys like Samart and Somrak, proves my point that boxing is a style superior to trad MT, since they incorporated boxing in MT fights and had massive success.
@@vinkelitz Rough road in Kickboxing? It's always the other way around. Petchpanmorung, Sittichai, Superbon, Buakaw are prime examples. Now there aren't many "Kickboxers" out there dominating the Muay Thai circuit. I agree with the hands though and the main reason why Thai fighters don't excel in boxing is because punches are scored very low compared to kicks. Doesn't matter how good boxer you are, very very hard to fight Thai fighter, all those weapons just can easily destroy your boxing skills
Not entirely true Ramon dekkers had good boxing and he was battering Thais.
Too much of you talking and not enough video. I'd rather watch example while you talk versus just watching you talk.
Gabriel, love your videos, but another commenter made a good point..."only one dislke". Well, I see zero dislikes now. I really hope you aren't censoring people, man, because that is a lowly, despicable practice.
thank you
