    Another great DUCKMAN production! VWs just are amazing as they seem to run when they shouldn't. It must be the simplicity of the engine design.

    The misaligned dowels are so the fly wheel is indexed to the crank the same, if you balance the assembly that is important

      Already discussed in another comment.... the thing is though, these assemblies are not balanced together. But it would make sense if they were.

    Amazing these things can run like that? From my way back memory with mine 65 bug I heard a crazy noise one day and found the cylinder fire was melting one side of my spark plug and the head was pretty much toast. Although at the time didn't think about trying to put in a repair threaded insert? Anyway, took my blown up 68 bus engine head and put it on with washers under the rocker arm bolts to raise it up to get compression and adjust the valves. It worked proving how you can make these run with rubber bands if needed. haha

      @DuckmanCycles  8 місяців тому +3

      Well, in your case you may be removing the cylinders entirely and putting new seals on the bottom end. You'll have to go a little deeper than I did. Also check to make sure its not the pushrod tubes. Hehe!

    • @vayabroder729
      @vayabroder729 8 місяців тому +2

      Also you can check if the washers under the head nuts that are located inside the rocker area under the valve cover are sealed. When assembling a motor it helps to put a little bit of sealant under them to insure no oil seepage through there that reflects in between the head and the cylinder area. It can be plainly seen.

    The head are going to keep working themselves loose. The remains of those heaterboxes are soaking heads with exhaust heat. They must be complete with cool air flowing through them in order to avoid this. Otherwise j tubes and heat shields must be used in place of them (like vw designed for the thing).

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks lol, but at least you're not entirely wrong.

    • @PWB87
      @PWB87 8 місяців тому +1

      I'm just referencing what the vw enginners did. Industrial shields were deemed nessary to protect the heads from the exaust manifold heat. J tubes and shields are cheap, and I would have really pushed that config to the customer. Maybe you did, and they said no? I don't know. But, it should be worth mentioning, as a lot of people look to you videos (myself included) for how-to stuff.

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  8 місяців тому +1

      @@PWB87 all you got to do is watch my other videos where I fabricated industrial tins, I know why they're necessary with J tubes, but these are not J tubes. If anything else without the tins it will hweat up your oil, but they're NOT going to loosen your heads. Especially in this case, because it actually has cooling fins on the exhaust which will make them dramatically cooler in the airstream, and will actually further cool cylinders 1 and 3, as was intended when the heater box was still intact. I just bet this arrangement wasnt tested by VW engineers, they never expected the jackets to rot off of them.

    • @PWB87
      @PWB87 8 місяців тому +1

      @@DuckmanCycles Yea, this arrangement probably has never been formally tested, I agree with you there. But the heaterboxes don't really draw heat out of the heads like some may think. Otherwise, vw Things would have had significantly hotter head temps, no? With the cases rotted away, is it any better? Who knows, like you said it's probably never been tested... This would also depend on driving style though. Stop and go traffic probably wouldn't provide adequate airflow across the fins. And when you park the residual heat just radiates right up to the heads. Intact heater boxes, or j tubes with shields would have been a better choice.

      Oh it's well known those heater boxes draw heat away from those cylinders, and I could even tell you first hand because when the heater hose comes off, that side overheats! Its gotta have a draft!

      That was done before I got a hold of this car. I don't know who did it, nor why. But its fixed now! I'll be doing a removal on my 56 Beetle in the near future, however. Throw me a subby, and watch for it! Thanks man!

      I learned that from big chief and his partner in their video . I did not even know silicon could melt . The front cover silicon rope was all melted . Elsewhere it could have been bad .@@DuckmanCycles

      Oh it melts, they have to get it in that shape somehow, right? Hehe! I threw my rubber girlfriend on the fire yesterday. You might remember her as the gift someone sent me anonymously. Anyway, she was in a lot of videos, my VW greased hands kinda ruined her, she went on the fire yesterday. She melted up reallllllly good before burning.

    • @DuckmanCycles

      Thanks man. I know you're trying to help, but to remind you... I've been doing this almost 20 years now! This has become my "job" and I am successful at it while it earns me a living. I may not have 1mil subs, but I didn't need them either, so I don't care who is a hater nor why, most of them have problems of their own and don't make a whole lot of sense anyway. I just can't fix crazy nor stupid so I'm not gonna try... SO LET'S LAUGH AT IT! Now, if I can't share the "Guess-what-this-idiot-said/did-to-me-today?" stories for us to all laugh at, then you're trying to change me and my content, and that makes it a lot less fun for me to be here and I'll have all the personality of a tree. Ultimately, these videos are about ME AND MY EXPERIENCES, despite any of the subject matter.... So what did The Duckman do today? Welllllll, here it is! I have no interest in changing that, nor should I have to. LoL! What you see is what everyone wants...the reality of my day. They might say otherwise, and there are a lot of fly-by-nighters that only come to me for quick free help... but whatcha gonna do? Maybe they'll remember me because I was nice to them. Again, I know you were trying to help, but you know, leaving comments like this is counter-productive, and by telling me things that I already know, I have to explain myself to clarify who I am when I can better apply that time on the next project or solving the next problem. I think I will turn this response into a canned response for future use. It comes up once in a while, but it's often enough that would make sense to re-share. I appreciate it my dude! Thanks again!

    for valve cover gasket ? You can use fifth wheel grease . Just a tiny bit . Last forever . Apply only on the gasket . Then put gasket where it go . You do not want fifth wheel in engine
