    Ive used this panel bond alot! Just a tip for ya. After you use just leave old mixing nozzle on. The part at the base will not harden. When your ready to use again just undo nut and presto. Give it a shot. Love videos man!

    I always wonder what body filler is best for skim coat or thicker applications. Sometimes it seems soupy. That panel came out nice.

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  Рік тому +5

      Thank you! Well, there are a lot of different kinds of filler. Cheap and mass produced and most commonly used would be Bondo, of course. But Earl used Fibertech on Eleanore, that wasn't cheap. Hehe! But it was able to be layed thick where it needed to be.

    Always good to save old classics, I've never owned a beetle but being in the UK they rust out badly. Haven't seen Bee around much but I hope she's doing ok 😊

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  Рік тому +4

      Oh man, they rust out badly here, too! But thankfully the cars of the south don't have to deal with salted roads, rather they fill up with water instead from all the rain haha! You know you found a good VW here when its a pond inside.... means it hasn't rusted through yet! Bee is fine, she'll be back when she feels like it. You can't make a woman do anything, right?

    • @wgoodiew
      @wgoodiew Рік тому +1

      @DuckmanCycles Very true and being in Florida is a little like the UK but with tornadoes 😂 All that salty water doesn't do any car good, even modern day ones. Man! That is so true, nothing wrong with a VW pond. Throw a few koi fish inside, excellent water garden feature 😂
      So glad Bee is doing ok, I know from her last post many moons ago she was struggling with mental health, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... right? I don't know Bee as personally as yourself but she is an incredible person with a heart of gold, that's how she comes across to me anyway. I'm not sure how her VW " Ruby" is doing?

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  Рік тому +1

      Tornadoes not very common here... they do happen, but nothing large scale. This part of the state seems to get them more frequently than elsewhere, but we're also closer to tornado alley.

    Lord Duckman,
    I'm glad you covered panel bond. I've not long purchased some to try out on my latest project, a 67 split panel. I was thinking of glueing in a new rear floor.
    And glad to see the Z running there a nice car.
    So thanks for sharing the knowledge Duckman.

      And yeah, these wheel locks might be the best ones on the market. I have not seen anyone else review these, but they are NOT quick and easy to defeat like some of the others on the market, nor at all like the ones that ProjectFarm reviewed. They do what they are supposed to and dramatically SLOW DOWN, if not completely stop a thief.

    Sir, so what will you do to replace the foam? That foam acted as a sound deadener and kept any engine compartment fumes out of the cabin. I also have a '74 Super. Fortunately, as of now, my foam is healthy and intact, but that is because it spent it's entire life living out of the sun, but in the dry environment of the Mojave desert. I, however, live in the central valley of California, and eventually know I'll need to deal with the foam

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm very familair with what it does... earlier VWs never even had it. But, it's a negative pressure area, not much for fumes until vehicle is off and sitting. But what I plan to do on my own car is put some foam into a bag in there, so it can be molded to shape and removed as a large piece.

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  Рік тому +1

    • @DanTheManIOM
      @DanTheManIOM 7 місяців тому

      It was around in late 90's. Think about the Fiero and that Pontiac Minivan - they had plastic panels that were held together by..... panel bond ! A body shop told me they had a repeat customer, and the panel bond area they first fix held together in the second crash in the same area. AND, it will not rust as fast as a welded repair, and will not warp big panels. I welded the sliding door of my bus, easy ! I'm sold. - BTW I am trying a small 10 dollar structural JB weld product - small tube cheaper than a static mixer on teh 3M stuff.

    Hey I have a question.
    I have a 74 standard beetle and got rust around my vents on the rear just right above where your working in this video. What are those called and I but those panels? Or do you think cut them out and add scoops. Not sure what to do

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  9 місяців тому +2

      Hi there, there's two panels in question- above the gutter it's the roof panel below the gutter it's the rear quarter panel or sail panel. I don't know if that answers your first question, it was a little hard to understand. The second question depends on your goals. If you dig into that area you're going to have to pull out all the foam and repair to stop future rust. If scoops are what you're looking for, like for a rat rod or something, then that's up to personal preference, only you can decide. I hope that helps! More fun videos to come! Thanks for the questions!
