I tried this today on my Phantom 4 Pro controller which hasn't taken a full charge in over a year. I took the board out as suggested and used a charger to test the light pattern to indicate charging or the lack of it. I used a reflow station hot air wand to heat the little chip just to the right of the lights. I started out at 450 degrees and tried that several times without any visible change in the chip's solder or in the charging lights. I turned up the heat and tried again for about 30 seconds, still with no results. Tried again for a little longer and then when I plugged it back in the light sequence hit all 4 lights! It worked! Put it all back together and flew a couple of miles and had no issue. Litchi showed the controller at 100 percent charge. Thanks!
I didnt have a heat gun so tried heating with a regular lighter, held the flame on both sides of that resistor by the 4 lights for about a minute each and it now works, all lights came on! Thanks for doing this video!

I pulled out the phantom 4 out of storage, probably haven’t used it in year, noticed the GL300c Controller wouldn’t hold a charge figured the battery was dead. Ordered a replacement, still wouldn’t charge, thought maybe I had defective battery, went down the rabbit hole, found your video, took out my heat gun and made the same tinfoil attachment. At first I didn’t head the power chip long enough, got frustrated and said well, if I ruin it I’ll find another motherboard. I heated up until the 4th light got a little to hot, let cool off and it worked. Now I have a slightly discolored 4th led, but it worked, thank you. Saved me a lot of money, also I’m going to fly it once a week so I don’t have to go through this again, DJI should be offering free replacement boards with the poor chip IMO, especially since you can’t find motherboards only from Alibaba. All in all it worked and thank you!!!
I stumbled across this video while looking for a video on how to replace the battery, because I assumed my problem was my battery, and so far after doing this procedure, my controller appears fixed, I'm charging it now, but it's actually acting as it's supposed to now so far! I don't know how you figured this out, but thank you so much for posting this video!
Hi I used a propper solder float gun with an 8 mm nozzle for 30 seconds at 460 deg. with aluminium foil around the other components. Worked perfectly now fully charges
I found solder to melt readily at 500 degrees Fahrenheit. 5-6 seconds at 500 degrees on the spot should take care of the problem spot. Don’t give up . Using cooler temperatures didn’t seem to work. I used a rework air station from Amazon and an alligator clip stand over a flameproof silicone mat.
Thanks for making this tutorial. I recently found stress cracks in my P4PV1 so I bought a V2 while they are (were) still available. After using it twice I've noticed that if I leave the controller with a partial charge it does not hold that charge. My V1 would hold whatever charge it was left with but the V2 is discharging itself 😞 Now I'm not sure if it's fully charging either. I'll have to check that in the morning before I go out. I wanted to send the V1 in for repair but I guess it'll be the V2 that goes back to DJI before the V1. Another thing I noticed is that even though I set all the expos, sensitivity and gimbal pitch the same as the V1 the V2 doesn't feel the same, and it's not better. I'm pretty disappointed...
Your welcome. The P4 V2 has the same camera as the V1. The only meaningful difference is ocusync is used for transmission with the V2 which means you can use the goggles.
@@DaltonDroneZone The occusync connection is noticeably stronger than Lightbridge was and like you said the camera works the same but the Drone doesn't fly the same. I'm suspicious that DJI might have tweaked the baseline settings which would explain why it's flying differently, even though I have set everything the same in the app.
Hey there, I am in the process of doing this now… I reflowed the solder and tried to plug it in and I ended up getting three lights blinking thank god.. but now I went to try again and it’s back to only one light.. should I do it again to re flow again?
Sorry. With my schedule, i don't have time to offer repair services to the public. It might be more cost effective to search for a used controller in good condition on Ebay.

Recently, when I push the power button, all the LEDs turn on (white) and after few seconds (3-4) everything dies. I opened the controller and check the battery voltage, it shows 8.5 volts. Do you think your method will fix the problem? I really appreciate your reply and help.
Did you ever fix your issue ? Mine suddenly started to do the same thing. Press ON button in normal sequence, LED’s light up but controller doesn’t boot up or stay on.

I did disconnect the battery internally and let it sit for a little to reboot, and it still has not allowed it to take much of any charge. Mine started doing the same thing. Then......I left the modem on.....and plugged it in to charge it. After a while it started beeping. Unplugged it.......and turned in off...... turned it on again.....and off.... Then plugged it in again to charge it. It worked so far !

I have a Phantom 4 Pro + controller with the built in screen doing exactly as this one did before repair , it will charge to approx 78 % then does the quick led flash but never charges further , do you think it will be the same problem ?
@@fearlessleader1436 A year later I just noticed your reply , sorry lol , anyway thanks for the info , my remote is still the same I never did try to fix it, I just flew as it was with less charge for the last 2 years , it has not got any worse and still lasts long enough to fly through a few drone batteries 🙂
had the same issue with my phantom 4 drone all i use to do is put the remote control in the sun for some time, then it will start charging normally and working fine.
I went through this process as I was only getting two LEDs, I kept the heat on for about 45-60 seconds, I checked it and I had four LEDs :D fully charged it and put it away, about two months later it was back to two LEDs... WTF? frightened to try again in case it shits itself :O
If reflowing the solder doesn’t work than the chip itself is defective. It’s probably time to replace the remote. The reflow process is always worth a try though,
@@DaltonDroneZone Is it still charging fine after all this time? Mine worked fine for like 6 months and then needed to reflow it and only lasted for like a couple of flights =( Now charges up to the second led and battery lasts too little

Flip up the piece of plastic clamping down on the ribbon. You can then pull the ribbon cable out.

Try what I did in this video. It's been my experience that the batteries rarely go bad in these controllers and many of them get replaced to no avail.

Unfortunately the success rate isn't 100%. If the chip itself is bad, it would need to be replaced.

This works , but only temporarily. The fix doesn’t last and you’ll need redo it every so often. Very annoying defect by DJI

I don't see why it wouldn't. You're basically reflowing the solder. The remote in this video has been charging just fine now.
