DJI Phantom 4 Pro: Worth Buying in 2024? I Need Advice

  • Is the DJI Phantom 4 Pro worth buying in 2024? Guys, I need your help with this decision.
    In today's video we are facing an opportunity head on with a once in a lifetime chance (at least for me). I have a buddy who owns a DJI Phantom 4 Pro and he let me borrow it for a test flight. The opportunity is, I have another buddy who's in another state, and he also owns a DJI Phantom 4 Pro that he wants to sell. Well, he's giving us first dibs on the DJI Phantom 4 Pro purchase so we figured why not borrow this drone and see if we think it's worth it?
    So we 'kidnapped" this Phantom 4 Pro and headed to West Virginia to visit family and try the drone out for its maiden voyage. Stick around and see how this really goes...
    One last thing, I truly need some advice on whether we should go ahead with the purchase of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro or if you all think it's a thing of the past. I can think of all kinds of tests we could try out for future videos, but I'm not 100% sold yet. This flight may change that though.
    As always, we want to thank everyone for watching and taking the time to comment. We always appreciate your support and kind words. We hope you have a great week and God bless!

      I’m telling you man this drone has been a lot of fun to fly. I’m still not quite sure what all it can do but I’m learning little by little. We still have the loaner and I flew it again yesterday. It’s still huge! lol. I do like the idea and I’ve heard arguments both ways on yay or nay so I’m still on the fence. @@weirdmark I’d agree it’s definitely a great drone and that’s a really good price especially for what it comes with. The metal from the truck is a MAJOR issue for that drone. I have the 3 Pro and it interferes with mine just the same. Can't explain why technically but basically it interferes with its gps around metal. Get away from the truck and lift off and you will be amazed how good they still are to fly and enjoy. Just don't forget to add a remote ID module on the one you buy ( 3 doesn't have it so I assume the 4 may not) Safe travels.

    • @WeretheRoberts
      @WeretheRoberts  2 місяці тому

      Yea man I was pretty shocked by how much the truck interfered. I fly the mini drones from inside the truck all the time and never have any problems. I guess the people who always ragged on my about it knew what they were taking about with older drones, eh? lol I’ve flown it a few times since this video and have been really impressed with its stability. I’m still contemplating but I have to win Kristi over. She’s already said no so I have my work cut out for me. Haha.

      Heck yea the camera is pretty cool. That’s sort of the biggest reason we were interested in it for sure. It would be the perfect fit for out drone business once it gets up and going. However, I don’t know when that’s gonna happen. lol. Kristi already said she’s on the No side of the fence but I’m still undecided. If she says no though I’m already outvoted. Haha. I’ve flown it a few more times since this video and am really getting used to it. My main complaint is I can’t fly from inside the truck because of the interference and it’s waaay too hot here right now to be standing outside. lol.

    We recently acquired a wrecked P4P with vey few hours on it. Parts are beginning to become difficult to find, but we managed to get it back in service by replacing the entire gimbal/camera assembly. The controller had developed a somewhat common charging problem, so we ended up re-flowing the soldered connections of the battery charging/management chip in the GL300F controller. The controller charging function still isn't perfect, but it basically works.) We've spent kind of a lot on this, but it's a good drone for mapping and cargo lifting/dropping. It definitely seems more sensitive to EMI than, say, an Air 2S.

      Heck yea, that’s awesome!!! Sounds like you guys did a lot of work that’s above my abilities. Lol. I could maybe replace the gimbal but that controller work you’re talking about is making my head spin. Lol. It’s really cool you were able to get it back in operation, eh? I wound up pulling the trigger on my buddy’s phantom 4 pro a couple weeks ago. I wasn’t gonna do it at first but I figured it’s a good starter for the drone business and if the business doesn’t work out, I’ve only invested a small amount rather than going full boar on a Mavic 3. Maybe if the business goes well we can upgrade drones but until I figure out what the heck I’m doing with mapping and things like that, I’m gonna be happy with the P4P. I was fortunate the one I bought doesn’t seem to have any issues at all. And it came with 5 batteries that are all working. 2 brand new ones with just a few cycles on them. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting. I may have to hit you up with some questions later on. lol. Good bless! Kevin

    The one problem with the Phantom 4 was as you observed that the props get in the videos. Other than that, the Phantom 4 is a beast of a drone. The Phantom series did not like to bring around a lot of metal.

      The biggest thing I learned about the phantom on this flight was exactly what you said, Fred. It’s a beast of a drone! If this was my first drone, I probably would’ve been too intimidated to even try it. lol. I could definitely tell the truck interferes with it slot more than with the Mini 2 and 4 drones so that’s a bummer but I guess it shows how far these things have come in just the last 8 years or so, eh?
      Judith, how much are you asking for your phantom and all that gear? I like the idea of having a better screen. The iPhone was a little tough to see in the sun and if I decided to take my buddy up on the offer, the iPad would be a huge help.

    Whether or not to buy a P4P depends on what you want to do with it. I get a lot done still with a Spark but need to up my game now and since I'm bootstrapping I'd grab that deal sight unseen and get it asap, no delay, day after day. Battery condition can be an issue and if they are "dead" consider spending $180-$200 for OEM batteries or, try the infamous "reset" of the dead batteries. After market batteries are cheaper but reviews lend more towards "be advised". The P4P mechanical shutter is sought after for mapping, at least 2D as a starter. Remote ID modules are coming down on price so that's not going to be to bad of a hit there.

      Great advice, brother. I was originally wanting a phantom for the camera and using it once we get the drone business up and going but honestly I don’t know if that’s even gonna happen. Then I was thinking maybe it would be a cool drone to use for comparison type tests. The batteries do concern me seeing how they’re harder to come by and they’re pretty expensive. I would think that if parts and batteries are still available, that $400 is a reasonable price. Also something to consider: If the camera specs are equal to or greater than your current fleet, and if that does or doesn't matter. Personally, I'd have no concerns at $400.00. I bought a drone of similar vintage (Parrot Anafi Extended) for about the same cost because of the 180 degree tilting of the camera. No regrets at all. Have fun, and welcome home! How about this for a name: "Phannie" (Fannie).

But I tell ya, Litchi on a Mavic 2 is dream-like buttery smooth. If you've tried 3rd party apps (waypoints) with Rose and Jack, it's a world of difference! These are more curiosity pieces than useful. Batteries can be hard to obtain, though there are some 3rd part and remanufactured. Its a "cool experience" that makes you realize hust how amazingly good current drones are. Ken Heron flew hos Phantom seriously until about 2021 - then less and less. Now, he takes it out for comparisons (it loses) and for fun, but nothing serious or professional. I wouldn't invest seious money an non-folding drones, but you may feel differently. I’m gonna be 100% honest man. Kristi has already said no. BUT that don’t mean it’s over yet. lol. I’ve flown this thing a few more times since this video and I’m getting a lot more comfortable with it. It’s crazy how intimidating this thing was at first. We still have the loaner phantom so I’m hoping to get some more flights in before we lose it. My buddy who has one for sale is in SC and we haven’t been able to see him for a while so I don’t know when we’d be able to put our hands on the drone if we do get it. Kristi’s vote counts for 2 so all I have to do is get her half on board and we win 2-1 right? Haha.
