best tutorial I have found on the internet. My specific issue was replacing the flex cable on my phantom 3 standard. Watched tons of different videos of novices attempting to provide a how-to for this task and all fell short, except for Tony. Excellent work, keep it up.
Fantastic method of dealing with the Camera part of the gimbal. My P3S fell from 200' and sheared the gimbal off. After watching many videos on replacing the ribbon cable, only your video was concise enough and had some very helpful tips on how to deal with the camera. Gotta wonder who designed the damn thing in the first place. Below are some tips. I figured out after taking apart and reassembling my gimbal 8 or more times (also two ribbon cables later) when re-inserting the motors through the circuit board make sure the flat side of the motor controller potentiometer rotor is on the curved side of the of the pot, otherwise you've installed it backwards and the gimbal will flop around like a fish out of water just like when you mount the camera incorrectly. Second make sure you insert the ribbon cables all the way into their connectors. Not doing so on the main board will result in the gimbal falling limp. Be careful when pushing it in, though, its easy to break the cable. (hence the need for a second ribbon on my part). In your video you use an exact-o knife to close the clamp on the pitch motor... I used a small flat blade screwdriver. I figured that was safer than a sharp object. Third, from another video, a helpful tip. Use a Q-Tip to push the ribbon cable into place when sticking it to the gimbal. Its soft and much smaller than my dad fingers. Thanks again... now I gotta deal with compass error .... arrgh.
This is an unsolicited testimonial for Tony and his repair service-crashed my copter resulting in a separated camera. I contacted him, sent him pics of my broken camera and gimbal. He sent me the right parts immediately, with the instructions and a video...in a couple hours, I was flying my drone and taking beautiful videos and pictures again. Had I sent the unit off, it would have been a minimum of 3 weeks and who knows how much money...Thank you Tony.
Tony has fixed my Phantom 3 Standard 3 times I believe. Small mishaps, one time I dropped the bird when taking it out of the van about waist to knee high and camera broke off. ouch and dropped the transmitter in the same move and broke the antenna off of it. Ouch 2 The funny part is its taken a drop from 25 or 30 feet to asphalt and the camera didn't break off. One other time I was doing the big dummy to see how long the battery would last with the bird up and down at about 2 to 3 feet and yes it took a sudden dive to the asphalt when the battery said I am completely dead no slow down warning. The camera didn't break off. Tony is a great communicator unless he is at his day gig (Musician Talk) then let him do his shift. Tony appreciate you helping me stay airborne I was almost ready to quit and hand Clients grounded video.
Thanks a lot. My P3S now flies with or because of you video. Ii do like the way you run the ribbon! Others start from the other end and very hard to install.
hey I have a problem I have a Phantom 3 4k drone and my drone be having a slight wobble in it. I bought several new propellers still the same issue. when it is setting down there's no wobble issues only whenever I flying do you think that's a mechanical issue or a software issue?
Hey Tony, Great video, I busted up my gimbal pretty good. It would not let me update firmware etc with the ribbon cable and a roll board broken. I now purchased a ribbon cable and connected it to main gimbal board and the camera head, still nothing. Do all boards need to be attached to update firmware? My bird will not fly. Yellow flashing lights. Thanks in advance!!
Great video, thanks you. I've looked and looked and can't find the screw reference sheet. Do you have one for the phantom 3 standard that you wouldn't mind sharing?
So the ribbon cable that goes from the gimbal platform to the drone popped out while still plugged in. So the connector pulled off the board. I unplugged the little plastic connector piece from the cable and tried to put it back onto the pins coming out of the board to no avail. The tiny pins coming out of the board must be bent up now so I can't get them all aligned. Can you help me Tony?
Subscribed - Thank you very much for this tutorial. Are these your replacement parts, the arms meaning ? if it is how much do you sell this kit for & are those composite arms as opposed to the metal ones it comes with ? where can I find them & also that wide T shaped access cover ? I've never even come close to crashing my P3S once & today for Halloween just trying to do something for the kids coming around to get candy, I made a ghost out of a trash bag & attached it to my landing gear & they were getting a kick out of it. Not thinking I descended to quick & the ghost (trash bag) came up & wrapped completely around my P3S & it dropped like a rock from around 18ft high. And broke off the arm right at the base of the gimbal & cracked that T-shaped access panel. also cracked both landing gear dead center at the feet. But other than that, no visible damage. So this kit should get me back up & flying & taking some beautiful sunsets again ya think ? How likely is it that the camera is damaged or needs something more than this ? And where could I find that T-shaped access panel.... Any help or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video also. The comment above this one is from me also & that's my email also. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.... thanks again.
Do you Know the ohm values for position coder for the the tilt and roll motors at normal possitions??, I have a PH3 Adv and the values are different from a PH3 Sta. and need to know if they are different...
Tony, I’m having an issue with my camera / gimbal’s horizontal/vertical alignment. This happened after a crash where nothing was broken but took it out of align, ent. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm impressed both by your repair expertise and your concise easily understood videos. Crashed my P3 4k. totally broke the camera...do you happen to have a working model available 4 sale, or can you suggest cheapest place to get one?
Thanks for awesome video, and please I need your experience for change main board of gimbal phantom3 pro 4K. I want make sure before purchasing new board if I need any adjustment for new board or programming or something need ?? please I need your answer
Tony - Thanks so much for taking the time and energy to put this video together. It helped me tremendously in putting my drone back together after a bad crash which snapped the camera off the Yaw arm and broke the ribbon cable of the gimbal motor. I have it all back together but now I am getting the yellow/red flashing lights with a calibration error. After several attempts, I still can't get it to calibrate. Tried the IMO and waving the small magnet around the compass as well with no results. Could this be a reassembly issue? The gimbal is controlled by the remote and is transmitting signal. It does seem twitchy when calibrating it.
This happens when there is a problem with the canbus connection. This can be caused by a damaged board, ribbon cable, or the wires connecting the gimbal to the copter. I recommend that you replace the ribbon first, then try replacing the wires connecting the gimbal to the copter. If all this fails, it is unlikely you'll be able to repair the gimbal and it will need to be replaced.
Since I crashed it and does this thing, I ordered a new camera and attached it yesterday when it arrived. Now with the new it recorded about 2 minutes then stoped then recorded 2 clips with 2 sec duration and stoped. After a minute I started the recording and recorded for about 10 min but during that my app only my ASUS ZenFone 2 disconnected and live feed was black. I exited the app then I restarted it and it continued without stopping the recording.. I just lost control for 15 sec. What would that mean??
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. im in need of help. crashed my phantom 3 standard and ordered new roll arm and ribbon cable. all genuine dji. camera is going haywire on start up. motor overloaded. i have aligned the shaft correct and have tried to calibrate with no success. any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Read the comments, it's a common problem. You probably have the motor shaft for the camera rotated 180 degrees. Flat should be to the back. If that's not it, then it's the roll motor shaft that's turned. The flat on that should be level with the top of the camera.
Doctor! I'd like to describe my problem and see what your diagnosis and treatment would be. I crashed the drone into a bush and then a pine tree while filming a golf tournament, and noticed a jello effect in my video immediately afterward. I shouldn't have been flying through the trees at my experience level, but I couldn't resist taking the shot. I am flying a Phantom 3 Std. Now when I power up, the camera and the mount vibrate noticeably and make that vibration sound. I also have no more useable video as it all turns to jello. I came across your video, which seems to be the most comprehensive one out there to solve my problem. Do you think a simple arm and ribbon replacement will solve the problem, or should I go full pop and replace the entire gimbal assembly? Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated. I am heartbroken, my beloved drone doesn't work the way it used to. Thank you, Mike T
Thanks for your videos. Very helpful with my repairs. However just to let ya know my Volume is all the way up and I barely can hear it. Yikes just bought one of those cheap ribbon cables on eBay for 15.99. Hopefully they have improved in the last year.
What happens if the camera doesn't turn on at all? I crashed my first drone. After that, the camera doesn't move or get power. Wind up buying another. Crashed the second one but replaced the body. While I had the second one apart, I put the camera on the first drone and it was working. So I know the first drones camera is busted and won't turn on. What can be possibly wrong? I changed the ribbon cable but still no power on the camera. The second drone and camera is perfectly working fine. It's drone #1's camera that won't do anything. No power, no movement and it's pretty much dead. Any suggestions?
tony, do you have a website or email i can contact you on? I need some parts for my P3S, primarily a ribbon cable. I visited ATKdrones and they only had a the ribbon cable for the P3A/P. Couldnt find one on the DJI website either. I would also like to purchase on of your Yaw Arms. Please get in touch with me, i hate not being able to fly :/
If you watched this video and you still need to ask, you probably shouldn't try it. If you haven't watched the video yet, I'd say it's probably the best place to start!
Again, thank you for these videos, they are extremely helpful. So I have a situation where the gold cable from the roll arm is ripped off. Guess it happened during the crash, not sure, but it's not connected now. Question - Can you run the roll arm with only the new ribbon cable connected or will it freak it out? I do now have video return now with the new ribbon cable, so I'm thinking at a minimum I can use it as-is and just make the roll arm in a fixed position. While this would not be ideal, but at least I now have video. Appreciate your thoughts on the above and thank you again for posting these videos.
Bummer. The gimbal will work as long as all the boards are connected to the ribbon cable. It doesn't care if any motors are disconnected. It will still want them aligned properly though. The flat on the pitch motor shaft will need to be towards the back, and the flat on the roll motor shaft will need to be pointed up.
Hi Tony, I'm hoping you can shine some light on my problem. I have a P3 pro and had a crash with it. This is the second crash I've had and I've changed the yaw arm and ribbon cable before. But on this second crash after replacing the broken parts, I'm having trouble with my gimbal. At start up when powering up my drone, my gimbal doesn't do that movement it does when powering up. I'm still receiving a feed back of my camera onto my phone so the camera works fine, it's just the gimbal, I'm unable to move the camera with the controller. I've search everywhere on the internet about this and found nothing. When checking the status of my drone on the DJI app, I get a status of "Gimbal Pitch Error" I've search that status on the internet and found nothing. Few other videos were posted on UA-cam about that but with no solution. I'm hoping I can get this fix on my own before sending it off to DJI. Any advice would be much helpful.
Luis Zaragoza Didn't send your gimbal to DJI. They don't repair gimbals, they just replace them at full price and keep your old one. The problem you're having is either with the main power from the gimbal mainboard to the ribbon cable, or the main board. There's a chance it could be a motor controller too. I would start by looking at the ribbon cable itself. If you haven't replaced the ribbon already, replace it with a genuine DJI ribbon. If you replaced it with an aftermarket cable, take that one off and toss it in the garbage and replace it with the Genuine DJI cable. Check if any motors are getting hot. That can help point you in the right direction too.
Tony Bock Tony Bock thank you very much for your reply, yes I believe I did replace the ribbon cable with an after market one that I got off of eBay. I don't know very much of the parts and exactly what they do but I figured the ribbon cable was for transmitting a video feed back. But any who, I will try that first and hope it fixes the problem, some of the parts that houses the boards are kinda damage but I can't see any damage to the boards. But any who, thanks again for the reply, this is the only suggestion I've gotten.
hi tony can you provide a link we can buy genuine DJI P3s ribbon cable, i bought from ebay for $25 and desn't work, i can see led is on behind camera board but motors doesn't move at all and still give me display warning on DJI go tilt, yaw, camera error
Hello, had what appeared to be a minor crash in grass and found that I cracked the yaw arm. After we repaired it, the gimbal won't dance upon start up. Just hangs there. I have video and everything else, but no control of the camera gimbal. Says gyroscope Error. what should I do?
Sean Purnell I'm having the same problem. I've search everywhere for a solution but had no luck. I would hate to send it off and pay lots of money to have it fix
Thanks for the video. I crashed my P3 advanced and now the gimbal make some noise, the video looks like jello, what should i do? we have no technical service here :(
Check the set screw at the top of the yaw arm, but it's probably the screw that holds the camera to the gimbal. If you power it up and lightly touch the gimbal in different places until the noise stops, you'll (almost literally) be pointing at the problem.
I've checked and its not loose, i opened the gimbal and the flex cable at that zone is in two parts, one glued to the arm and the other looks like the cover. Could this be the problem?
The gimbal really only makes two kinds of sounds. One is a beep and the other is a buzz or rattle. The buzz or rattle can only be caused by something that's loose. A rattle is easy to find, but a buzz can take some patience. I've never seen the ribbon cable cause a buzz or jello. I'm pretty certain your problem is from something that's not securely attached to a motor shaft, or the screws that hold the motor to the arm. Keep looking. You might need to take everything apart and put it back together again.
Please help :( I've successfully done this, got thecamera view again, but after putting everything back i suddenly can't connect my aircraft to my dji go app and it says "disconnected", everything is N/A, and no visual in the camera.
Hi, thank you for doing this video on youtube, i think you can help me on my P3 standard, one month old the gimbal having trouble on the start-up the motor not working, on apps aircraft status the hardware not responding, gyroscope error, no problem on the camera just only the gimbal.. Its my first time using Dji product and still covered on warranty, there's no qualified service center here in my location from the southern part of the Philippines.. If you can help me or give some idea to solve the problem i really appreciated on that....and very big thanks to you... more power to you and God Bless you always...
The ribbon cable is the most common failure of the DJI gimbal. It connects the four boards together, so it's hard to diagnose without replacing the ribbon first. I have repaired some "gyro error" gimbals before. Some were ribbon, some were the pitch motor control board, but most were the camera board. The camera and gimbal mainboard are paired from the factory. You cannot replace either one without replacing both as a set. Your safest option is to try and get it repaired under warranty. If that's not an option, you should try the ribbon. Anything past that will be too expensive. You can get an entire gimbal for about $250 here in the States.

Thank you sir, i have to try and by the way I'm Boyet from litefm Philippines... Sir if you have any recommendations where we can purchase the product for replacement if ever DJI not available...
Hi, it seems to me you are an expert, Sir. I have a problem with my P3S, which nobody can resolve: I cannot fix a problem “Gimbal status - gimbal disconnected “. Please help!!! Thank you.
I cannot figure out how I sent you a message before lol. I did send you an email which you listed here but not sure if you still use it. I will try the butter knife to get the arm apart but what would you charge me to ship it to you and put the arm, flex cable on and put the camera back together? You can send me a message through google if you like. Thx
I have the same problem. I replaced the flex cable and the problem persists. Then, I replace the gimbal motherboard and the gimbal moves! But moves crazy :( I checked all values of all potenciometers and they are right (and the position like you said). And the other problem is this: ua-cam.com/video/AFtdhEsmuV8/v-deo.htmlspm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.1b2a3e5fxfSvDJ (the is an issue with the connection between radio and drone) Any idea? Greetings!!

Happy to help, and glad you got it going again.
спасибо, ваши уроки помогли при ремонте подвеса! thank you, your channel help me repair my gimbal!
Thanks a lot. My P3S now flies with or because of you video.
Ii do like the way you run the ribbon! Others start from the other end and very hard to install.
Hello, where did you get the alignment tool for the correct mounting of roll motor to the bracket?
Awesome video , but just wondering if you can still get that bearing that goes under gimbal base cover plate and attaches to the yaw arm

I don't have any 4K gimbals. All the parts from a Pro or Advanced will interchange except for the gimbal mainboard though.
Where did you buy the spare parts?
Thanks for awesome video, and please I need your experience for change main board of gimbal phantom3 pro 4K. I want make sure before purchasing new board if I need any adjustment for new board or programming or something need ?? please I need your answer
Mohamed Yahya, no programming need. You'll still need to calibrate the imu, but you'd want to do that after a crash anyway.
i need change this main board due appearing green zebra line . and i want your advice for this phenomenon, what you think ??

Tony- Where do you order a original flex ribbon for my P3S? I have contacted DJI, and they can’t sale me one because it’s not offered.
Where did you get the screw sheet at
Jacob Shifter_ I made it
Where did you get your flex cable sir?
Thanks for your videos. Very helpful with my repairs. However just to let ya know my Volume is all the way up and I barely can hear it. Yikes just bought one of those cheap ribbon cables on eBay for 15.99. Hopefully they have improved in the last year.

Does the LED on the gimbal come on? Did you use a genuine DJI ribbon?
+Tony Bock no led on when you plug in the camera
+Tony Hunter - I think the gimbal main board is damaged. You can't replace that part. You might as well just keep that one for parts.
tony, do you have a website or email i can contact you on? I need some parts for my P3S, primarily a ribbon cable. I visited ATKdrones and they only had a the ribbon cable for the P3A/P. Can you replace just a bent roll arm without doing anything like the ribbon cable replacement?
Yes, but you need to be pretty careful with the ribbon cable.
How would you attempt something like that?
If you watched this video and you still need to ask, you probably shouldn't try it. If you haven't watched the video yet, I'd say it's probably the best place to start!
Tony Bock yeah.. might take it to a shop, I'd like to give it a crack though

Luis Zaragoza Yeah, I had to send mine in.
Tony, how do I order your kit? Really I just need the alignment tool for the roll arm motor
Or how do I put the roll motor into the arm without the tool. Which way does the flat side go?
I think I cover that in the first couple minutes of the video... flat side up on the roll motor and flat side back on the pitch motor.
I need to get your kit how do i do that ?
Tony Bock where can I buy the ribbon camble? Thanks

Hi, it seems to me you are an expert, Sir. I have a problem with my P3S, which nobody can resolve: I cannot fix a problem “Gimbal status - gimbal disconnected “. Please help!!! Thank you.
Would love some help but if you cant or wont help me could you let me know
What if my black and grey antenna wires get stripped out?
Joey Bragg they would need to be replaced.
And is that something I could do myself?
If so what are the parts I need?
I cannot figure out how I sent you a message before lol. I did send you an email which you listed here but not sure if you still use it. I will try the butter knife to get the arm apart but what would you charge me to ship it to you and put the arm, flex cable on and put the camera back together? You can send me a message through google if you like. Thx
Venomallain , I charge $60 flat for labor. Parts and return shipping are extra. I'll send you a message with my address.
I have the same problem. I replaced the flex cable and the problem persists. Then, I replace the gimbal motherboard and the gimbal moves! But moves crazy :( I checked all values of all potenciometers and they are right (and the position like you said). And the other problem is this: ua-cam.com/video/AFtdhEsmuV8/v-deo.htmlspm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.1b2a3e5fxfSvDJ (the is an issue with the connection between radio and drone)
Any idea?
Greetings!!
