Can disconnecting the coil electrical connecters whilst the car is running cause in electrical issues (i.e., shorting / damaging ignition or ecm components)?
I think I heard that somewhere before a long time ago but not sure. Thanks!

This manual method of dropping cylinders has been in use for years. The correct way of doing it is to disconnect the electrical connector to the coil and not removing the ignition coil from the spark plug with the engine running. This later method is what can damage vehicle electronics...

hello, when you disconnected the partial injectors, the engine control unit did not read the misfire. that is, the problem was on the side of candles and ignition coils? Best regards from Poland

Since this is an active test triggered by the tool, it won't read it as a misfire or show a code. However, if you noticed, the sound and vibration of the engine increased when each injector was dropped. That said, the car I did this test on, does not have a misfire issue.

You said if your sound doesn't change, that's your cylinder. I don't understand that.

Usually, a good cylinder contributes to the combustion process occurring in the engine. So when you drop that cylinder, it's contribution to combustion would go, and this would reflect in the tone of the engine. A 'bad' cylinder contributes little or nothing to combustion and so when dropped, engine tone won't be noticeably affected.
