    The best explained, man you literally explained the fuel injector balance test the best. I watched 1 video where the guy was saying to just check for any noticeable differences in the psi readings. You have to do things by the Manufacturers book with cars. Thanks a lot, clearly the difference between a tech & backyard guy!

    From what I've researched GDI engines inherently have a rougher idle than port injection even when brand new. I've owned two brand new 1.4 GM Ecotec cars, One was a non-turbo port injected engine idled as smooth as glass for the two years I owned it. Then I bought a brand new 2018 chevy cruze turbo GDI engine and i noticed immediately that it idled less smoothly Ive owned it 5 years now with no issues but it only has 20k miles 🤣😂

      @@737mechanic well actually what I mean is that you have 2 fuel rails it looks like u have 4 injectors pushing under 30 psi all around 25 or 26 so I'm thinking that one bank of cylinders has a lower psi ..so that may be from the HPFP or it's roller ..wdyt?

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  Рік тому +1

      @@RoadHeros610 So the fuel rail pressures are around 500 to 700psi, the 25 to 26 psi you are seeing is the pressure drop when the injectors pulse.

    Will this tool not pulse the injectors like you did with the autel in your other video?

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  11 місяців тому

      Yes it will, but pulsing the injectors is year, make, and model dependent. This truck has high-pressure direct injected injectors which means it has a high-pressure pump that has to be pumping and it can only do that with the car running so testing these injectors involves more than doing a simple pressure drop test like you can do on non-direct injected engines.

    Two questions for you sir? Where did you get the procedure and would it be different on the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost?

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  7 місяців тому +1

      I used Prodemand for the procedure and ford has a test called Relative Injector Flow test that depending on the year make and model some scan tools can do.
      All prodemand says about doing that test is to follow the scan tool directions.
      It is a straight forward test that the scan tool cranks the engine while monitoring each injector's flow rate.

    Very informative video. How do you like the xtoolD8. I do have a launch X431 not the tablet but I guess the mini looking for a larger screen in a respectable tool. Any recommendations? New subscriber I noticed your the 737mechanic. I’m a retired F-14 flight test mechanic. Maybe we have the same background? Anyway I have seen the D8 becoming popular and am trying to make a decision on a more inclusive scanner with more functions and a larger viewing screen. I’ll be following your channel. 👍 Artie

      I know it's late. But I would recommend the D8 and up from XTOOL. With the D8 being at a mid level price with a high end operating system on par with a scan tool that would cost you upwards of $1,500-$5,000

  • @_AndromedaGalaxy_
    @_AndromedaGalaxy_ Рік тому

    i thought power balancing the injectors would mean you hit a button and the tool changes something to make them flow more equally. this seems more like just a way to check for a bad injector rather than enhancing power output.

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you are correct. Scan tools are for troubleshooting and diagnosing issues. A performance programmer is more what you are talking about.

    I just purchased an Autel and had run this test on my wife’s 2016 Escalade with the 6.2 L86, I had just finished a basic AFM delete with the new cam shaft and L7 lifters, and I sent the computer of to AMS racing to have it tuned for the delete, I also upgraded the valve springs and the rocker trunions while I was in there, and I bought some refurbished injectors on Amazon so you can imagine my frustration when I fired it up and it had a rough idle. But I gotta say it was so nice for the first time in my life to sit on my ass in that nice leather seat and check nearly every system on that car with my autel and find one injector that was dropping 20 psi more than the others, I can never go back to living without it haha. On that note anyone know of a good place to buy perfectly balanced injectors that are guaranteed?

    If you notice on this-- all your odd injectors are around 26psi, and all the even injectors are around 31psi. But they are very similar on each bank. So I wonder if there's just a flow issue with their rail design that causes it to have a different reading on each side? Maybe the pressure regulator is closer to one side and allows it to depressurize just a bit faster?? It's a little weird that one whole bank is lower than the other whole bank.

      Interesting observation. I come from a residential plumbing background and we are taught that when hooking up a double water heater situation if you don’t create equal distance from the infeed tee that the water heater closest to the infeed would always work harder and wear out sooner. I noticed on my 2016 Escalade with the L86 they do account for this and feed it to a splitter that has equal length pipes feeding each fuel rail.
