The Josie and the Pussycats songs were recorded by Motown session musicians. The show producers wanted to replace Patrice Holloway with a white singer. The music producer refused. Motown musicians rewarded him by performing for a reduced rate.
The Pussycats move in a very natural way while performing and playing their instruments. Clearly they used actual performers (perhaps the voice actors themselves) to film and then rotoscoped the animation over it.
Great song and memories of this show as a kid growing up. Just picture a twenty something smoking hot Patrice holloway, Cheryl Ladd and Cathy dougher singing this tune in the studio. One thing that gets lost in all this is the terrific flute playing in most of their songs.
Amazing! I started humming this song out of the blue, after 50 years! I could remember just enough of the lyrics to find the song on YT. Just goes to show how influential and long-lasting music can be. Watching Saturday morning cartoons when I was 7 was the greatest! I miss those days. Good times 😌
Which girl is "Valerie"? Playing guitar?? Is this really Patrice Holloway's voice? Is this a famous program in US or UK??? I'm a "Patrice Lover" from Tokyo.
It's not really clear who's supposed to be voicing who. The speaking and singing voices of the characters were done by different people. They hired 2 white singers and one black singer to match the composition of the animated group, but since Patrice was the strongest singer, she wound up singing lead on most of the songs even though Josie was supposed to be the lead character.
Javier Cantu, esto fue hecho por Filmation, los mismos de He-Man original y eran famosos por reciclar animacion y fondos para ahorrar dinero en sus producciones... (This was made by Filmation, the same people as the original He-Man and infamously were known to recycle animation and backgrounds to save money on their productions) One thing, are you related to the Cantu brothers? (The ones who managed the singing part of the Jem and The Holograms cartoon "Latino" dub down there in Mexico...)
Loved the show and their songs during the chase scenes. They were hilarious to watch. I still look at them, 52 years later. They are classic!
The music on Josie was soooo hood. Cartoon only had one black girl but so much more soul than the stuff you see now.
this song has got a motown funk sound to it.. love this song

The greatest female rock group of all time!!!!!
The Hex Girls: Are we a joke to you?!
I'll buy that... But only if you throw Sabrina in there.
Cheryl Ladd provided Melody’s singing voice
This was my favorite song from the show.
EATeezey Mine Too!!!
This, Voodoo, and Stop, Look, And Listen, are mine.
This is so damned groovy!
Dig it!
Love this song, brings back memories. Good dance tune

Someone else thinks Holloway is hot! You’ve got taste!
Who was the flute player? It really is great.
This song sound so Jackson 5. :-)
Made before I was born, but STILL LEGENDARY!
My favorite from them!
I used to watch this show all the time... and I just found that out like two days ago. I feel like a bad fan.
I almost forgot. Great string/orchestral arrangement for their songs.
It was actually Valerie doing the singing on the records. (or should I say the singer playing Valerie).
this song is awesome
This song really has a Jackson 5 style to it. I dig it.
Same Time period.
@@johnlewinski6359 Yes, I know.
This is my favorite song by this group.
Love them I use to watch them all the time
2:53 Sebastian, the hero !
@Ssrn53
Then Patrice has voiced the one playing tambourines.
Ssrn53 & lucianaferrazzi, thank you very much! I like the Pussycats' songs.
It sounds like Jackson 5 music.
It was supposed to. The Pussycats were more R&B sounding than the Archies who were more Rock/Pop.
Sounds more like honeycomb
fucking love this song! and inside outside up side down
Cool riff !!!
u are soo right
To think this is how Kris Munroe got her start.
Austin Pearce when she was Cheryl Stopplemoor, until she married one of the sons of the late Alan Ladd.
>>>The BEST Grooving SOng from them - is it REALLY 1970 when this was recorded ?? by WHO ?? Cheryl Ladd
Patrice Holloway is the singer on this. Cheryl Ladd sang on an album track "Lie, Lie, Lie"
leigy100 it's interesting to know what Cheryl Ladd did in her days before Charlie's Angels.
RIP PATRICE !
Cheryl Ladd was Melody's singing voice, so she sang in all of the songs. But Patrice was definitely the lead singer here.
The one dislike was Alexandra Cabot.
Sounds like Honey Comb.
Yes!!
Same time period.
🤔 Should we use an mail carrier to deliver our top secret documents. 🤔 Sure what could go wrong.
Guards never seem to have any guns with them.
It seems Alexandra sometimes plays bass viola or some such?
@automatic84a842 No. Valerie is the one playing the tambourines not the drums. Josie's on guitar and Melody is the drummer.
Bueno, bonito y de buen gusto😎😎😎
3 hot ladies in cat like outfits that can jam their a$$ off! What's not to love about this!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well cool! That drummer is reminding me of Debbi Peterson of the Bangles :)
Rip-off of The Jackson 5's "ABC." Listen to that walking bass line. (Still a good song though.)
It's that Motown sound. This was the best from the group.
Zowie!!
Amazing!! But...
did Josie's embarissment in this "MIDAS MIX-UP" was reddingly explained?!
luv this song..just played it in the stripclub..yes indeed i just did!!!
luv this classic song and the cartoon as well
I need to know the reaction of the people that were there, lol.

I'm a "Patrice Lover" from Tokyo.
automatic84a842 tambourine or black girl

The animation looks like rotoscope. I'm pretty sure that some of the instrument playing is copied from real musicians.
@lucianaferrazzi
Thank you very much!
They recycled a lot of the animation.
