Watching this a bit later, but I just had to say this is what I appreciate about the over 40 year old channels over the others. So much more experience and insight on how to make manipulate and apply products for less than perfect skin. It's immensely valuable content that the younger reviewers can't compete with.
I stand by my original comment on your first video that this foundation looks beautiful on you! I’m interested in this one, but I recently purchased the Chanel Number 1, so holding off atm. Your whole look in this video is so fresh and sophisticated. ❤️
The Hourglass looked really pretty on you, but when you compared to the CT, I could really see the difference in shades. I am neutral also and I am shopping for a new foundation right now and it is hard to find a perfect match. I think I will skip Hourglass for this reason. I swatched the CT in Sephora and 3N looked great, so I am a little lighter than you. Thank you for your thorough review. So sorry for the loss of your sweet Lucy.
Your skin looks so supple and hydrated. Really pretty! I just tried CT in 4N. It really is difficult finding the "right" color isn't it! I was surprised it went on a bit orange. The finish really is beautiful and I think the orange did tone down a bit. I actually received compliments on how purty I looked that day..awh, shucks! I may try CT in 3N to see if it's less orange, or I may check out Chanel which you mentioned had better matches. A big letdown on the foundation front was Lisa Eldridge. None of the samples I got seemed neutral and they went on really dry. No bueno. I love her lipstick though. Thank you for your great reviews! Have a lovely weekend.
Fantastic review, really in depth. Thank you, I think the hourglass looks great on you. I think I might buy that. Because I have oily skin I think the CT wouldn’t be great on me.
I saw another review where they said this was similar to the Lisa Eldridge Foundation. Haven't tried Lisa's foundation, but I did get a sample of this. I went two shades lighter because I heard this oxidized. Unlike you foundation does not last on my skin and this one was no exception. It seemed to disappear from my face except for my pores, lines and dry spots. By the third day of trying it I noticed my skin getting considerably drier. Also I'm neutral toned and the girl at Sephora matched me to one of the cool tones. Ah well, still looking for my holy grail foundation.
I do have the LE foundation and I don't find them to be similar. It's a shame this didn't work for you, but so much out there to choose from, I'm sure you'll find "the one" for you!
Hi Kiki I am the same shade as you The Charlotte tilbury one is beautiful but the hourglass is a but on the orange side but it looks like a nice foundation 🌺
@@TheHoodedLid agreed they have to get better with shades and the description too, because that’s definitely not a neutral shade more like peachy orange. I have 5.5 and it has the same undertone as yours but a tad lighter which works for me now in summer but not in winter when I’m pale and more on the olive side
So orange! Like you it makes me crazy. I have been color correcting my first NARS Light Reflecting foundation which is waaay too light, but I can’t find the magical formula to deepen without it looking too warm. I have another NARS in a better shade. I hate to waste the first bottle but I am not going to keep playing mad chemist to see if I can find a happy blend. I do know the next foundation I will purchase is DIOR Forever Skin Glow as shade 1N is a perfect match when I am not “tanning”. I am not anxious for summer to be over, but look forward to buying it late fall (assuming it is still available).
Another lovely, in-depth video Kiki! I have been on a search for a perfect foundation color and texture wise and it is so hard. I have CT beautiful skin in 5N and it is "ok" an also Chanel no 1 (a bit too watery and enough cover). Inspired by your lovely videos I have now Chantecaille cushion one (Nude) coming up. Trying to decide whether I should try Hourglass or rather La Mer or perhaps Houslabs next.. Maybe taking a look of your Best foundations 2021 next! 😀 Like you I like sheen look and medium coverage and would love to find something that feels perfect in every way. Ps. Do you mind me asking about your glasses? I am looking for new ones and really love the look of yours! Pss. I am very late, but yesterday found out about Grace and my heart just broke for you and your message at that time. I know how it feels, lost my Emma 15years ago and she still travels in my heart every single day. I am so happy to know that you have a new friend beside you to give you all the love that these furry friends have to offer.❤
Thank you so much regarding Lucy. Grace I adopted two months ago - she's a rescue from a breeding facility. The glasses are from Look Optic - there's a discount code in my description box. I don't remember the name - but they don't have too many styles, so should be easy to find. Good luck on your search for the perfect foundation. There's so many great foundations - it's finding the right color that's difficult.
@@TheHoodedLid Oh, I am so sorry, of course it was Lucy. And now you have the beautiful Grace. I too love beagles! And you are absolutely right, with foundations it is mostly about the right color. All of my current foundations are too warm& dark toned, because I used to like the sun kissed look on me. But now I am trying to find lighter ones (you were actually my inspiration, love your sophisticated look with beautifully chosen eyeshadow, blush and lipstick which really pop on the lighter tone "canvas" if you know what I mean) which sure is tricky when doing it with online color patches. Do you usually get the correct ones based on their Shade finder system? Btw, you look a lot like Grace Kelly! with your ehe elegant, soft look. Especially when you have your hair up. I have a bit the same thing, especially when my hair was lighter. But I didn't see that. I always thought my smaller size hooded eyes and round shaped face are not exactly something be excited about but I start to think otherwise. Thank you Kiki for the inspiration! 🥰
I was worried about finding a shade match so I purchased the Lancôme Teinte Idol Ultrawear. (310N). Love it. I do want to try the Hourglass pencils. Thanks for your review.
So true, foundations are like blind dates! Agree. The Hourglass foundations seem to run yellow. I was able to get a sample in shade 8, so I will try it out. My favorite foundation, and I have tried many as well, is the Chanel le Teint, the one with the pump. It’s just that the undertones are so perfect for my skintone. I also like the Cle de Peau radiant foundation, and unfortunately the other one in the jar, which is so expensive. I keep trying the less expensive ones, but either too drying, or wrong undertones. It’s frustrating. I want to try the new Lancôme one next, but I hear it has alcohol in it? But, helps if a kind SA can give you a sample 1st. Thanks for the review. It did look nice on you when you pulled it altogether with your other makeup, but I understand what you mean by the shade not quite working for you.
Yes, I do! However, check out my "Face of the Month" video posted on August 31 - I got a sample of another color which really helps me when reviewing. If the color is very, very wrong, it's hard for me to get over that and really judge the foundation. The sample from Face of the Month is much better and I have thoughts!
I won't be getting a new foundation anytime soon. I just returned the new Nars foundation because it turned a strange shade of orange on me. I need a break from this madness!
@@TheHoodedLid - You’re not alone. I’ve lost many pets over the years. This doesn’t work for everyone…but life got better when I came home with a new shelter dog. He didn’t replace the precious dog that I lost…but he needed a loving home and I was able to give him that. 💕❤️
hmmm....do you mean the one that came out a few years ago? I did buy that one, but I found it was a bit fussy to work with and the skin had to be well prepped or it would stick to any flakes.
Okay this foundation must be cursed. I was matched *in store* and it was still wrong! Shade 3-- described as 'Fair with neutral undertones'-- was way too warm on me. I went back to Sephora the next day and exchanged the problematic Hourglass for Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Glow in what I hope will be a much better match. These companies need to stop lying to us about neutral shades 😄
As an ultra cool-toned person, I swear a great color match can make me instantly love any foundation!! I'm in a foundation funk right now, even those that I loved last year, I don't like now?! Ugh 🙄. But you're right you must try it to know. 🤍
I love when the shade is prominently displayed! Thank you!

Agree on the LE foundations. I'm surprised the CT was orange on you! I wonder if it's reacting to something in your skincare?
Always learn something from watching your videos and always love seeing sweet Lucy🧡

Thank you!
Hi Kiki I am the same shade as you
The Charlotte tilbury one is beautiful but the hourglass is a but on the orange side but it looks like a nice foundation 🌺
That looks beautiful!!! I must try it. :)
You can get a blue pigment to get a more neutral shade, LA girl has one
I know there are pigments...but I feel companies need to do better with their shades. Especially at this price point.
The problem with blue is that mixed with yellow, it becomes green. I would think brown with a red undertone would counteract the yellow.
@@TheHoodedLid Exactly. I'm not spending money to fix their product. It should work right out of the gate

Dior does good shades for me, too. Their neutral is actually neutral1
