I grew up uptown so Domilises is very close to my heart, Killer poboys version is a whole new twist but it reminded me of a shrimp take on a Banh Mi, which I'm a huge fan of and that would definitely be something that would be right up my alley. With all that said, Parkway is absolutely my choice as the best all around. Absolutely overloaded with fresh shrimp. I'm not big on heavy batter and theirs is so perfect. I ride in the Krewe of Endymion parade, and several of us have a tradition now on the last Thursday before our parade, we load our floats in the morning and then head to Parkway around 1pm for lunch. It's a tradition we look forward to all year long, just as much as the parade itself.
I definitely have to get down to New Orleans since I’ve never been but, just from the description of the killer poboys description it’s very much banh mi. Still awesome and it’s own thing but not what I think of right off the bat.
Awesome video. I was a tag-along in New Orleans with my wife for four days one may have hen she was on a work trip. I walked around on my own and ate my way though the city every single day! Best food lovers city in America bar none! We ate poor boys all over the place and I had researched the best before we went. Had beef, oyster, soft shell crab, and shrimp pretty much every place we tried. Loved them all - there were no losers and no losing restaurants. When we go back (next March god willing) I’ll only order shrimp. In my humble opinion, it’s the best option no matter which place you go. Loved Domilieses. In the end, the best I had came from Verde Marte in the French quarter. I actually after there 3 times on that trip and it was 3 of the top 4 meals I had in town. Little hole in the wall that took me a while to find cause I kept walking past it. Absolute best sandwiches in town. Muffletta was the bomb too! Would get my sandwich and a beer for an early lunch and go to the south end of Jackson square to eat under the magnolia trees. Wow, such great food. Can’t stop thinking about that place. The other meal that was on my top 4 was the shrimp and grits at Desires Oyster bar - also in the French quarter. I wanted to lick the plate! I ate at least 6 places every day just to make sure I hit all the places I wanted to try. When we go back these are the two places that I can’t live without revisiting. New Orleans and Louisiana is in our prayers for the destruction Ida brought. Be safe and be well! America has your back.
Johnny's was always my favorite of the big well-known ones. However the best fried shrimp poboy I ever had was out of a gas station if you take the westbank expressway wayyyyy down til you get out of the city and into the bayou. There's a little ma & pa shack looking gas station that used to do big $5 shrimp poboys wrapped in newspaper. Best bread, shrimp, breading, everything hands down
Just got back from my first visit to New Orleans. Best experience I’ve had in a long time. This sandwich is so unassuming and simple, but by far the best sandwich I’ve ever had.
A freshly cooked shrimp po boy is one of my fav foods for sure. My pops grew up in NOLA. I go a few times a year. SOOO GOOD love it with a fresh ice cold bottled barqs root beer
Just a little Poor Boy trivia from a New Orleanian, Dong Phuong is the name of the fantastic Vietnamese bakery they spoke of, and the very first Poor Boy sandwiches were called French Fried Poor-Boys. They consisted of French fries, Mayonnaise and roast beef gravy with bits of meat (debris). It was super cheap, like a nickel for a whole loaf.
8:45 I grew up in the New Orleans area. I have eaten po-boys all over the city. That is not a po-boy. That is a gourmet sandwich. I'm sure it's good, but it ain't a po-boy. Can't gentrify a po-boy. It shouldn't be on this video.
Man Louisiana born raised sir. But that was indeed a poboy just done the Vietnamese way. Now you being from Nola know that the Vietnamese have a huge influence there.
You’re correct, it’s a Vietnamese Bahn Mi renamed a “Po-boy” to attract tourists and locals. Of course, Vietnamese food is VERY French but it doesn’t have the spirit of NOLA in every bite.
Poboys and Bahn Mi are both foods born from being occupied by the French. Two cultures received french sandwich bread... Both made a sandwich. Both exist in harmony and the world has more names for sandwiches.
I guess I was getting at how the two sandwiches are synonymous at times in New Orleans. Like I've had this dude's specific sandwich. It's good, nothing to write home about. Agreeing on the idea being a little left of experimental... But like it's technically true.
In the states a classic Bahn Mi would have pate and Vietnamese style cold cuts and classic Maggi seasoning, but obviously there are plenty of different varieties. But "Bahn Mi" literally just means bread. So if you want to call it a Bahn Mi go for it, but it is a Po Boy because that is what it is sold as.

I lived in New Orleans for 5 years, long before all the new-fangled, hipster restaurants moved in. For fine French-Creole dining you couldn't beat LeRuth's in Gretna across the river (since closed). But for po-boys, Domilise's wins hands down. Their sandwiches are divine. Frankly, I don''t recall beef po-boys being popular in New Orleans when I lived there. The Camellia Grill. Just the best.
Yeah I was born and raised in NOLA and I wouldnt consider a roast beef poboy as being popular unless its gotten popular in the 20 years I've been gone. No doubt they sell well I would just be surprised if it's one of the highest sellers but I could definitely be wrong. It's my husband's favorite though. 😄
@@Renee_nf094e I wonder if the price of seafood has gone up so much, that the po-boy places have had to push beef sandwiches. When I lived in New Orleans shrimp was a dollar a pound in both Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish. I invited a friend for boiled shrimp dinner in 1970, had no idea how much I should get for 2 people. Guy selling shrimp on Napoleon Avenue told me I needed 5 pounds! I shared what was left over with the girls in the dorm.
Roast beef poboys are one of the most popular sandwiches but mostly to the local crowd. I think tourist are mainly looking for seafood when they come to town because you can get some vacation of beer sandwich almost everywhere. After you get your fill of the shrimp and oyster I would suggesting trying the roast beef. They are delicious.
My favorite is NOLA Poboy on Bourbon Street. I don’t know how they make them taste so good, but It TASTES as if they marinated the shrimp in shrimp boil and then put the spices mixed in with the cornmeal. They are freaking out of this world!
@@Toppshotta4 NO reason to eat roast beef when your on the Gulf. That's for places like St . Louis and Chicago. Give me shrimp, oysters, clams and catfish every day of the week.
I don't think that adding your spin a classic means that's its lame or gentrified or hipster. Food is like music: Nearly everything is a riff on something from before. You don't have to abandon the previous thing, but you can embrace the new twist while still loving the old. It's all good man, it's how cultures grow.
Trust me these "lame" versions are usually the best. Most of these "classics" you eat now weren't always classics and start out as these gentrified versions as you said. There's nothing wrong with classics but there's nothing wrong with innovation too. Most foods you eat now are also these innovations. The "classic" New York Pizza isn't even actual pizza and you'd know that if you've had a classic Italian pizza that doesn't have mozzarella cheese but instead parmesan cheese added off the heat.
Gentrification is the sign of a growing economy, which should also usually imply better food due to more demand for quality from the wealthy residents, but I agree hipsters are very annoying.
8:18 You mean Dong Phuong, just give them credit, they supply everyone with the Vietnamese style French bread. Also that's a shrimp banh mi, not a po boy.
@@mmoore5190 idk what he's talking about but yes all po boys are made with french bread, but the bah Minh it's made with a specific kind of french bread roll that a bit softer and sweeter than most off the big name places use. And yes he did get his specific french bread from don phoung in the east

I think we can mostly agree that Killer's was Banh Mi and not a Po' Boy...but I'd still eat it in a heartbeat! All of them looked great, but I think the addition of the beef gravy on Domilise's made that my go to...if I ever make it NOLA. In the meantime, I can live vicariously...(Big shout out to Herrine because she is an enthusiastic eater...no "nibbles" for her!)
That first owner knows how to talk about his product. Before this video i watched the best sunday roast in london and that owner was like "uhh well we have the best meat and we roast really well"
Born, raised, and currently live in south Louisiana. Been to New Orleans many times. My favorite is at Vertie Marte on Royal St. In Lake Charles, got to go down to Darrell’s. I like Pop’s in Lafayette but I hear Old Tyme Grocery is good too.
In case you haven't noticed Cokes are no longer a nickel and a loaf of bread isn't 25 cents any more. EVERYTHING costs more these days, not just po boys. Also look at the price of a red beans and rice plate. That used to be the cheapest thing on any menu. Not anymore.
I have lived in NOLA for most of my life and our favorite is Domilise’s. So traditional and so good from such a small place. In addition, both Domilise’s and Parkway use Leidenheimer’s bread so it is interesting that you felt there was a difference. (Although I did see a special that showed that Parkway may get some of its bread from Leidenheimer’s and another source equally)
I’m going to visit my family there soon. I can’t wait to eat good and drink lots of daiquiris 😋. I will film everything for my channel. Enjoy your trip 😊
When I'm in New Orleans, there is only one spot I go to for a Po Boy...and that's Mother's Restaurant on the corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas. I highly recommend the Ferdi which consists of Baked Ham, slow roasted roast beef and Debris ( bits of roast beef that falls into the gravy as it cooks , it's the consistancy of sloppy joes almost). Bring cash since they don't take cards.
Parkway is king hands down, for a shrimp poboy. Domilise's is not the same since Miss Dot died. One you missed was the debris poboy at Mother's on Poydras St. - to die for!
The best ones are from the gas stations. No need to go to a po-boy place or restaurant that serves po-boys. At most gas stations you can get a whole french loaf shrimp poboy for $15. The french loaf is a 3ft in length. You can also get fried catfish, oysters, whatever, all around that price at the gas stations. They are stuffed too. When you unwrap them from the paper, there is so much shrimp packed into the poboy that it's falling out. The restaurants would charge $40-$50 for it and make sure you just barely get enough to be placed in the sandwich. They are the subway's of the po-boy industry.
For those of you that do not know the Leidenheimer bakery totally dominates the poorboy bread and that is the only delivery truck that I ever saw in NOLA.
So, I hate to tell y’all this, but the best po’boy in New Orleans is from a sketchy little convenience store on the Westbank called “River fine foods.” Cheapest too; you can get a massive 36” one for $19. Just thinking about it is making me crave it. 🤤
Damn we were walking through the neighborhoods at the ferry and didn’t know about this place. Next time, the family and I go, we gotta make the stop here!
I challenge all to go to “Hooks Seafood” on Terry pkwy. I’ve been looking for a good shrimp po-boy since Katrina( and Danny/Clydes Napoleon fixed their building but went down on the food quality). Nicely toasted bread, shredded lettuce, tasty shrimp and garlic fries to boot. I refuse to buy a whole one again; too much! Now, I actually split a half with a friend. No I don’t work there, I’m from Nola and I know a good sandwich when I taste it. Uh, I’m so sick!😅
Completely random, but I have Crohn’s disease and can’t have cheese, spicy foods, wheat, or anything deep fried. A poboy wouldn’t kill me, but it’d cause about a week of agony
I love how I am just laying in bed while watching this and being hungry at the same time. There's nothing that can compare to it.

No bs, very excellent video
Why am I watching this, I live here
These two are so cute! Great video.🌻
I'm from New Orleans and I love a good oyster po boy
My favorite is NOLA Poboy on Bourbon Street. I don’t know how they make them taste so good, but It TASTES as if they marinated the shrimp in shrimp boil and then put the spices mixed in with the cornmeal. They are freaking out of this world!
When I was a kid, my go-to po-boy was shrimp+oysters. To this day, I still have never had a roast beef po-boy
You missin out
From New Orleans and I haven’t either
@@Toppshotta4 NO reason to eat roast beef when your on the Gulf. That's for places like St . Louis and Chicago. Give me shrimp, oysters, clams and catfish every day of the week.
7:51 how does a restaurant get in playboy?
I miss We Never Close! Can't get a half shrimp and oyster loaf fully dressed in Nashville!!!
OK, now I'm really home sick for New Orleans now...Great video Ladies! 😀
Domilise’s is the best , people in New Orleans know this
Thank you ladies- I live near New Orleans. I plan to visit thoses places I haven't been to.
I’ve learned from these “best of” videos theres always a few classic renditions but then they always include some lame gentrified hipster version
You’re comment got ass pounded by these chads of commenters.
and it's always a white guy ripping off some other culture
Herrine Ro is a vibe ! 🙌🙌
8:18 You mean Dong Phuong, just give them credit, they supply everyone with the Vietnamese style French bread. Also that's a shrimp banh mi, not a po boy.
Isn't a po boy just a sandwich on french bread made in or inspired by Louisiana?
Mmm Kaylaa po boy and banh mi bread are different. Po boys go on sub rolls while banh mi is on French bread. Their ingredients also matter
@@iGoVroomVroom every po boy in this video was on french bread
@@mmoore5190 idk what he's talking about but yes all po boys are made with french bread, but the bah Minh it's made with a specific kind of french bread roll that a bit softer and sweeter than most off the big name places use. And yes he did get his specific french bread from don phoung in the east
They got the best king cake 😩😩😩
Johnny’s is the absolute best po boy I had while in NOLA. It was amazing!!!!!!!
Oh boy, i could use a po boy now 🙂
Me too. I will get a few when I go to visit my family in a few months. I will eat good and drink lots of daiquiris 😋. I will film everything for my channel 😊.
This was invented during the great depressions. And I still think 11 dollars is to much for this
Go catch your own shrimp then. The sandwich is large enough for 2 people, who are not gluttons, to share.
When you taste it your gladly pay 11 bucks and probably leave a cash tip.
At the gas stations you can get a 32 inch friend shrimp, oyster, catfish, or whatever for $15-$16. They are stuffed like crazy too.
@@sebastianzx6rDude! No way!!
I think you meant to type 12 inch not 32 inch lol
Brother's has a 6in for $5.99 that's a deal too
@Alex Lopez were you saying Dkillex needs to get a job????
New Orleans is, hands down, the greatest eating city in the world! And Po' Boys rule!
Okay Jizea
@@uhohstinky2808 Pardon? Try English?
That first owner knows how to talk about his product. Before this video i watched the best sunday roast in london and that owner was like "uhh well we have the best meat and we roast really well"
Ha!😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s what I like to hear!!🤩🤤Love the restaurant employees enthusiasm👍
It looks DELICIOUS!!!!!!
I want one 😋
I will get one when I go to visit my family there soon. I will eat good and drink lots of daiquiris 😋. I will film everything for my channel 😊.
Born, raised, and currently live in south Louisiana. Been to New Orleans many times. My favorite is at Vertie Marte on Royal St. In Lake Charles, got to go down to Darrell’s. I like Pop’s in Lafayette but I hear Old Tyme Grocery is good too.
Woww it's 12 am here in the Philippines and i'm hungry😢❤
LIA JAVIER me too ☹️
Its 12:11 pm in Duluth
Then eat something
Hi from Los Angeles 👋
Puyat.
Great video. Next time in Nola, headed for Parkway!
Po'boy my ass. Not one of those was under $10. Thanks a lot for making something poor people used to survive off of expensive.
In case you haven't noticed Cokes are no longer a nickel and a loaf of bread isn't 25 cents any more. EVERYTHING costs more these days, not just po boys. Also look at the price of a red beans and rice plate. That used to be the cheapest thing on any menu. Not anymore.
oldladytoofast Yea but it's called *po boys* for a reason
Stop being broke and you won’t have a problem

I have lived in NOLA for most of my life and our favorite is Domilise’s. So traditional and so good from such a small place. In addition, both Domilise’s and Parkway use Leidenheimer’s bread so it is interesting that you felt there was a difference. (Although I did see a special that showed that Parkway may get some of its bread from Leidenheimer’s and another source equally)
“And It has to be super well seasoned” your in New Orleans it’s gonna be well seasoned 😂🤦🏾♂️
I stopped in to parkway bakery the other day and git a fried oyster po boy and dang it was phenomenal
I wish Australia has these types of food sometimes and I wish I could eat it IF it wasn’t allergic to gluten 😭
I have a trip lined up in December to go to NOLA. Can’t wait to get my hands on a po boy mmm 🍤
I’m going to visit my family there soon. I can’t wait to eat good and drink lots of daiquiris 😋. I will film everything for my channel. Enjoy your trip 😊
Happy Hour Girl Kola thanks love! You too 😊😊
When I'm in New Orleans, there is only one spot I go to for a Po Boy...and that's Mother's Restaurant on the corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas. I highly recommend the Ferdi which consists of Baked Ham, slow roasted roast beef and Debris ( bits of roast beef that falls into the gravy as it cooks , it's the consistancy of sloppy joes almost). Bring cash since they don't take cards.
Literally the best part of living on the gulf coast is fresh shrimp poboys. Little edit, them voodoo chips are FIRE!
I want to visit these sandwich shops in new Orleans!🤤 viva N.O.L.A.! 🤘😎🤘
You must 😋
Parkway is king hands down, for a shrimp poboy.
Corner stores too
The fried shrimp po'boy is the only one I eat! I love them so much.
Oh'Boy now I want this Po'Boy!
You must go to New Orleans 😋
Wow all this Po Boy sandwiches look fantastic 😍
There’re the best. I can’t wait to go visit my family there soon 😋.

out of these options, PARKWAY all the way. I love parkway's bread.
For those of you that do not know the Leidenheimer bakery totally dominates the poorboy bread and that is the only delivery truck that I ever saw in NOLA.
😋🥖⚜️👍
I made a shrimp po boy using garlic bread. Yum!
So y’all couldn’t go to one spot in the hood to try the legendary Po’boy?
Disappointed 😞
SSJGod Michael Gene’s, Cajun’s or The Orange Store. Plus with Gene’s you can walk out the store and get a daiquiri in a few steps.
Queen Fu Fu I’ve heard about Genes ❤️❤️❤️

Doms po'boy is the best. Be prepared to wait in line.
All great choices. We eat at Parkway the most. It's our favorite.
Best of is a great series!
Also Mahony’s 😋. I’m going to visit my family there soon. I will eat good and drink lots of daiquiris. I will film everything for my channel 😊.
You guys missed a lot of spots. Next time let me show you where the locals eat.
Actually I live near Nola and I really need recommendations... badly
@@TrippieIcee guys, Domilise’s, parasols, seithers
Other great spots to eat that are more than just poboys- ye olde college inn and Toups meatery.
Zapp's Voodoo chips -- great choice!
3:18 the look on her face 😂
So vegan chop cheese is my next thing to try along with vegan shrimp po boys whenever it's back in stock
So, I hate to tell y’all this, but the best po’boy in New Orleans is from a sketchy little convenience store on the Westbank called “River fine foods.” Cheapest too; you can get a massive 36” one for $19. Just thinking about it is making me crave it. 🤤
I was gonna say, the best po’boy’s are found in the local neighborhoods
Up the street from the Algiers courthouse…yeah they’re pretty damn good I must say
Little convenient store in Slidell had the best! Gas and deli..to die for!
I had them in Florida years ago in Fort Lauderdale area
Idk what I’m doing here...I’m allergic to shellfish but damn looks good😂
same I would be dead within a minute!
Completely random, but I have Crohn’s disease and can’t have cheese, spicy foods, wheat, or anything deep fried. A poboy wouldn’t kill me, but it’d cause about a week of agony
Greta Casselmon same lolololololol
Looks good. 😁
I couldn't work in any of these places I'd be fired for EATING 🤣😂🤣
Y'all should've gone to Cast Net in the East. Damn good Po Boys + plenty of other good food. I go there everytime im in NOLA.
I think there was some bias in this pick although I’m sure they were all delicious. Been to NO many times and need to try these places.
I love how she just showed her true self and then adjusted for the video; when the po' boy got to the table! 🤣🤣💀
