What type of insulation does this house have? How thick are the exterior walls that are faced with aluminum sheets? Those appear to be fairly thin, based on the dimpling that is noticeable.
Unfortunately you cannot tour the inside of the house. It is not ADA compliant (as nothing was back in the day), so the museum cannot open it to the public. No plans to modify it.
I spent many years in and out of this house in the 1970’s - 1980’s when it was on the estate of Wallace Harrison in Huntington NY. It is cool to see it preserved and moved to Palm Springs.
It's a wonderful story! Now, if Oalm Springs can protect its large collection of Mid-Century Moderms from being destroyed or remodeled beyond recognition?
I currently live in Palm Springs California in the process of getting my real estate license and the one thing I will say and put in the atmosphere is that if Frank Lloyd Wright, John Lautner, and all those other great mid-century architects have not inspired me to make my own mid-century organic architecture I don’t know what has.
It looks interesting, but not comfortable or practical to live in. Architects can talk in abstracts about creating new ways of living, but in real life most people want a cozy home that makes them feel warm and proctected. Not to mention the cost of trying to keep a steel roof from rusting and springing a leak. That is probably why it didn't catch on.
Anyone who has ever been here understands how important it is to preserve these homes. It's a very special look in a unique setting.
Can't wait to see Aluminaire house in person!
I was literally just in palm springs this oast Sunday and it was my first time, i loved it, amazing charm.
Palm Spring is such a cool, special place. This story encapsulates that. 😎
Proud to call beautiful Palm Springs home. My house is just 5 minutes away walking.
Nobody asked. VOTE FOR TRUMP.
@@AnthonyGrantPressRelease Rumpsters are not sophisticated or intellectually savvy enough to appreciate beautiful Architecture ! 💙💙💙💙
I went to Palm Springs in November and it was cold with the sun out. Definitely recommend visiting and taking the gondola to the top of the mountain.
Built in ten days? Amazing!👍
Amazing! An Albert Frey book is on my coffee table right now. Thank you.
Fascinating! What a great effort!
Luv to know the temperature inside that metal house in the summer
…..Made the mistake of retiring to Las Vegas, relocating to Palm Springs where there is ACTUALLY art, and charm, and character.
Yes, and NO football!
I adore Palm Springs.
The giant Marilyn Monroe statue in itself is worth preserving in Palm Springs. Amazing kitsch artifact.
❤ This story! Ty.😊
Another great story
Wonderful!!
It was an improvement on the concept of a townhome.
Was an amazing House to Live in ❤❤❤❤
Looks like a very attractive sola:r oven: all that glass all that metal??!!
Turing this into AIRBNB

When they talk about Avant Garde designs having issues - this was one of them.

I was in palm springs earlier this year and walked by it a few times. I wondered if it was possible to go inside. Oh well 😢

Interesting Palm Springs
Some of the older houses designed in palm springs are unique. Unfortunately, we don't get that today unless you are super wealthy.
It's a wonderful story!

Looks a little bit like a stove....probably feels like one on a hot day.` Beautiful.
NM FROM SHERMAN OAKSI ITS A CUTE HOUSE

Dont underestimate the ruthlessness of the Rockefeller family.
neat
Like a spaceship landing? A Borg cube?
Yes, it would need a cooling system. Wow. It would literally be an oven, no?
A dual purpose appliance, a refrigerator or an oven depending on location.
That little house is more secure than our border.
Sorry to the termites, it's their favorite past time, as for the aluminum building isn't worried as safe bill repairs. Be careful for bend metal! 🤗👍
Why’s only the outside open to the public- is it not structurally sound?
What is the (R) value of the four walls and ceiling and roof!?!
Like R-12
But nobody can actually go inside it...there are currently no plans to open it for museum visitors.

I wouldn't want to live in something like that. Just way too cold looking.
Nice…but can you fry an egg, bacon and onions on it?… I’d guess yes.
A ridiculous tin imitation of Le Corbusier.
I like the majority of mid mod designs, but those are hideous
Modernism is beautiful but always uncomfortable and not practical...
Millionaires for commodity fetishism
Hideous.
But we love you anyway.
All I think of is the hillbilly Eustace from Mountain men losing his house because of building codes, and this fugly house passes
No, it doesn't, no one's saying it does. Also, Mountain Men is scripted. Have a great day.
Very Gay
😂
Do you know anything about Palm Springs? lol
@@ryanshaw2223 That’s why I said it.
Too much Gay....
Brave of you to come out in this forum.
