An Artist's Home by a Stream is a Tranquil Escape - Tauhai Villa by Ponce Veridiano

- Set at the foot of Mt. Banahaw in Nagcarlan, Laguna is landscape artist and painter Ponce Veridiano's home and gallery he calls the Tauhai Villa. The home is built on a steep terrain by a stream, surrounded by foliage. Veridiano was inspired by architects Tadao Ando and Frank Lloyd Wright when building this structure. Veridiano allows plants to be wild - trees cling on to the stone walls, the aerial roots of the Monstera plants crawl over the walls, vines dangle above windows.
The home also functions as Studio 88, a gallery that exhibits Veridiano's works of art. Only starting during the pandemic, Veridiano's early pieces were charcoal drawings of still life and now have evolved to colorful splashes of abstract paintings.

Ponce really is Philippines’ top landscape artist… and I think this is his best among the great landscape / gardens he made. His house is world class and AD worthy.
But you do not make this much money as a landscape architect.
When I was watching this, I felt like crying. I’ve been following various types of homes for the past 30 years, and I have never seen anything quite like this. It’s such a serene home, built in perfect harmony with the environment, absorbing and reflecting the natural beauty around it. Magnificent! Why would anyone want to travel the world when they have a home like this?

Most astounding house ive ever seen, much more of a healing sanctuary, full of soul, art and nature, what a beautiful home
So basically it is Japanese design in the philippines. Then why not live in Japan. It is a great country, it is clean, it is a real democracy, the people are friendly and there are no slums like in the philippines. And Japan ese culture is phenomenal and magnificent, while filipino culture, well, it doesn't exist, it is just the remnants of spanish and portuguese culture in asi. I mean the philippines is the third world , people seem to forget it. Nobody wants to live in the third world. . The philippines have malaria, dengue, cholera, rabies, tuberculosis, etc,.... in 2025. Why on earth would anyone live there. For the beaches ? Hell no i'll take Okinawa if i want beautiful beaches or Yoron island, at least i know i'll not step on a needles infected with HIV there.
And a house near a stream in the super hot super humid philippines, is like living with the mosquitoes and all the other insect of the place.

I would always pass by this house when I travel to the province. I’ve even stopped to speak to one of the construction workers working on the house once because I witnessed them manually shaping the stones - it was my first time seeing that type of stone cut that way. I’ve always been fascinated with the exterior of the house, and curious of what is hidden behind those bamboo gates. Awesome feature. Absolutely beautiful.

Hands down the most impressive tropical house I’ve ever seen.
The blending the outdoors with the plantings, set off with the soaring volcanic rock walls, the build up of tension as you enter through the bamboo door.

Man, i tell you....this one is deep. It truely blends in with the surrounding nature...takes you into another world when you enter. His art work, those tall shutter doors just beautiful. Also got me with the concrete leaf shaped steps placed in the water to walk on-very creative!
I always would rewatch the hill house vid by Buensalido. I thought that was my perfect dream home when i first saw it a couple months ago..but this is my new dream home lol

An absolute paradise!!! MAGNIFICENT!!!
We have a creek that runs through our back yard below our home that you can hear on all of our balconies (we have 5 levels of balcony) and inside our house when the windows are open. We call it our babbling Brook. It’s serenity. My house is nestled into a tall forest and I just absolutely love it. All nature, all the time. Our home is a large chalet type with expansive forest views outside of huge windows and feels very isolated. I do wish we had those natural stone walls like he has included in his build. The original designers and owners of this home used red brick instead of stone. It would be nearly impossible to replace them with stone unless I was a millionaire. His use of natural materials makes his home magical. There is so much inspiration for me in his design. Things I would love to incorporate into my fabulous home.

i love the stone work. makes me want to learn it. If I had that much of it to do, I think I'd have it down in , like 5 years!
So amazing how very well nature is allowed to take part of the building, no covered up of spots, small damages, great. Also it makes it very relaxed, comforting to see and no doubt to be in.
The way nature is handeling the building is what hampers so many modern (western) architecture, as if nature is having no place at all in our lives. Everything has to be so clean, so sterile, and turns out so cold.
A masterpiece of design. Tranquil, unassuming artform. Stunning setting among nature and meticulously thought out gardening that blend as one.
I'm not easily wowed. But WOW. It's magical, deep, and full of memories from a life I've not yet lived. And the PLANTS! They're huge and they love living there. The contrasts of deep darks with shadows and brilliant touches of color and art. Amazing, truly. Thank you!
