      The pilot loves details (he’s into scale model flying). I think he now has the 3rd version of this Red Bull copter. Not because he crashed all the others, bu t because he constantly improved scale details over the last 10 years. Meeting him and see his passion is as impressive as the copter itself.

    Beautiful! But did I read that right...only a 5 min flight time? As an RC nut myself I know you don't need an hour, especially with aircraft. I am more into large scale boats...fast boats and at 5 mins is when I would enter the comfort zone with regard to performance of the machine. But honestly I am ready to bring the boats in after 15 mins so being a novice at aircraft I would want a safe flight time of 10 mins and bring it in.

      Correct Cedric. That’s exactly what I think each time he flies it here. I also would love to case him with my mini quad. But then again you want to just see the spectacle and also I don’t wanna risk anything with such an expensive model. A slight mistake on my side, I crash into his rear rotor, and down it goes. 20k wasted. No thanks :)
      On the other hand, the rear rotor is probably the only vulnerability here:)

      Of course the pilot here knows the real Red Bull cobra pilots and the owner, and since he is sponsored by them to a degree he naturally seeks those little extras to really stand out. And I think he has a similar cobra now for over 10 years. So you always try to integrate new gimmicks....

    That is so bad ass... I tried flying helicopters before fpv quads and man it was so hard.. I crashed so many times I gave up.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  6 років тому

      yes, I flew a small 70cm diameter (Thundertiger Minititan e325) back a few years ago. there was a learning curve but it was fun. not so fun tho: crashes are way more work intensive than with quads!
      flying larger ones like this here is actually way easier (controls are much more stable, docile) but it requires a lot of confidence obviously :)

    • @digitalmojofpv6217
      @digitalmojofpv6217 6 років тому +1

      RCSchim confidence.. More like balls of steel.. Lol.. Yeah I have a eflite 450. I still have the desire to fly it.. I would love to be able to do all the 3d flying. Now that I am good with a quad maybe I will give it a try.. Maybe some of my quad skills will transfer and give me a little more confidence.

    It's cool I guess, -having a giant helicopter model... but what do you do with it?
    What's the point?
    You can't fly very many places, and once it's in the air..? what? it just looks like a helicopter flying by. Kinda boring to be honest.
    No FPV, no stunts, no 3d flying, nothing but a normal looking helicopter doing normal things. Too small to get inside and too big to fly most places.
    It's a big helicopter and it flies... so what?
    I don't see the point.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  6 років тому +11

      Obviously there are different tastes of what makes sense :) With scale model flying I think flying that thing is only the last bit of the hobby. Mastering the technology, working on the details,... all this is (largest) part of this hobby.
      Myself - I also like to fly more, have easy copters and less money and time involved so I understand your point. But on the other side: if you ever witness this thin live you‘ll probbably change your mind easily :). Greets, Schim

      I see them all the time at my local club. Giant scale planes and helis. I like to build things that are fun to fly, but I just don't get the appeal of spending all the effort and time for something so 'vanilla'
      We do heli events where kids fly ridiculous 3D and invert so low that the nuts on their rotors make sparks on the ground :D Now that's impressive to watch!
      These giant scale, just seem like a ton of work, for something that's really boring to fly or watch... and if you crash it? So expensive!
      Sorry I just don't see the point in investing all that time and money, when you could be out flying something way more fun for only a few hundred dollars.
      I mean, it's not even FPV :D Everything I own has an FPV rig on it or ready to clip on.
      There's loads of videos with big boring old helicopters. I prefer your instructional videos and reviews. But that's just my opinion.
