This aircraft was designed sixty years ago and it still looks like it came from the future.
That's because it did.
Something batman would have....
To think they used slide rules and NOT computers to develop it!!
Alien technology
Put it side by side with the cars of the era, that’s where you really can tell how form versus styling nearly always has the formula for longevity
This is one of the most stable RC jets flying. Amazing, no flutter no pitch and yaw going on. Awesome build
I wonder how he did the elevator/aileron system? In the full size plane, they had a complex mechanical gear system near the tail because everything had to work together and sometimes opposite of one another.
I am not an RC enthusiast, but i *LOVE* this SR-71 model!
And then I found the little button on the remote that said "Mach 3.2" wonder what it does.
The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys
Actually its age.
What a stupid comment, so if I'm not rich I'm not a man? Attempt at a joke or actually serious, either way it's not funny or arrogant & ignorant, so it's a lose lose.
@@tomanderson3279 The Comment can't stupid only because of you are Not able to understand it.
Amen
Its not a toy, it's aworking scale model, toy planes go around and around on the ground with flashing lights
Love that you put NASA markings on it! My late grandfather, Victor Horton, flew backseat on the NASA YF-12 and SR-71 Blackbirds, beginning in 1969. He most often flew with Fitz Fulton, but also made flights with Bill Dana, Tom McMurtry, Don Mallick and others.
Was your grandfather the same German who designed the first winged plane that the B2 bombers are designed off of?
did your grandfather invent the wheel?
@@scottmcauley5781 These were brothers and had the name Reimar and Walter Horten, so probably not.
@@fishbarbeque8540Your a JERK!
@@scottmcauley5781 The B-2 bomber is not based on the old Horten Ho 229 if that's what you think. The B-2 was made by Northrop and Jack Northrop made his own flying wings before the Horten brothers. Besides, Horten and Horton isn't exactly the same name.
I had the privilege of working around the SR-71 in my early USAF career. I was on Okinawa where we called it the “Habu” named after the local snake. I used to park my work vehicle on the flight line just a few hundred yards away from the aircraft. The process to launch the SR is very complicated and scripted down to the minute.
When it’s ready to roll a chase car halls down the runway in advance to look for any FOD or any possible people that could be lurking to get a great picture. It stops at the end and the SR takes the active runway and lights off the afterburners which shoots a 30’ flame out the back. Everything for a mile begins to shake and rattle. It’s an awesome spectacle to behold. One of the really neat things is to follow behind it as it taxis. The heat moving off the engines literally makes the plane invisible. You can see through the waves to the other side the aircraft is seemingly gone.
I used to be a Line Service Technician and I got a little smile when I saw the acronym FOD (Foreign Object Debris) So one of the things I used to do to the new line techs was send them on an errand to get a bucket of Prop Wash and some flight line from the hangar. Most of the time they'd run off and me and the other line techs would have a giggle. It was all fun an games. Anyway, it made me think of my days as a Line Service Technician.
Guy with the RC helicopter: Look how cool I am!
SR-71 owner: Hold my beer...
Reasonable Guy Nah. Think of the Cessna owner as they carry the thing next to it.
Guy with helicopter: I’ll get my coat 😆
He would say hold my afternburners
Hold my Russian Titanium :)
Hold my Corona. :-)
WOW! Considering how difficult the real sr-71 is to fly this scale is very impressive. Well done!
My thoughts exactly, how the hell is it stable enough to fly by remote?!,, Oh, I give up.
@Justin Voluck Easy!
prusak26 we have the same kind of fly by wire and electronic stabilization systems that are used in real aircraft, if not better since you can just put the aircraft under electronic control (you’re not risking someone’s lives)
@@prusak26 its just an airframe with "rockets" on it. you literally can bolt this kind of engines to any shape of body and it will fly. on a scale model, the power/size ratio is multiplied.
@@snakeplissken2148 let's see if fly one if you bolt it on a basketball
Me: flies my model propeller plane thinking I’m cool
This guy: hold my afterburners
But why? They need that
Time still hasn't caught up with this aircraft....
Tr3b...I think they did but keep it secret
Time can’t go Mach three!
dom toredo all i ever want to see is what happens in area 51
NICE FLIGHT! 👍☝🏻👍
no it was surpassed in 57 with the arrow ... and they cancelled that because the U2 was no match and the sr71 was JUST its equal BUT couldnt shoot anything ... 70 years and the arrow design specification is STILL not satisfied ... not even the 3 f35 variants NOR the f22 nor the f18 ... think about that ... the sr71 primary operating altitude was 60,000 feet below 40,000 it was was not good to fly supersonic ... while the arrow was good (as designed) to handle it all at supersonic ...
.
before you say the arrow never had a weapons system ... dont forget the arrow guys made the sparrow Missile system WORK ... and it is still in use today ... and that was after the americans couldnt get it to work and were going to scrap it ...
Amazing to think that the real A-12 / SR-71 was designed and built in the late fifties to early sixties. That’s only sixty years since the first flight of the Wright Flyer. An incredible piece of engineering for it’s time.
It was the last jet designed using a slide ruler .
Прошло ещё 60 лет и люди обросли шерстью
Seriously. As an engineer, it blows my mind that this machine was designed without CAD or computer simulation. It was designed 60 years ago, yet it remains an engineering marvel to this day. What a fantastic and beautiful piece of technology.
Its crazy how quickly aviation progressed. It was a mere 66 years from the Wright Flyer to the moon landing if I'm not mistaken!
@@Samuel-km5yf the whole thing is a masterpiece. Even the engines alone are.
THE BEST LOOKING model, anything else doesn't even come close to it.

Kelly Johnson really hit a home run with that plane and Sir you have an extremely nice model of plane. It fly’s so well and your are extremely proficient at piloting this plane you make it look easy. What a great job Sir! Congratulations 🎉👏🏼👏🏼
SR-71: Good morning LA Center. Requesting Flight Level 600.
LA Center: Flight Level 600 granted.
SR-71: Thank you sir. Descending to Flight Level 600.
The engine sound is incredible.
Need a go pro on that SR-71. 😎
Go pro spy cam
In the cockpit... it would be so cool
Agreed. That would be something!
That would be so cool
Man is that fast for an RC. Just like the original.
One of the sexiest aircraft ever built... Beautiful model!
No wonder - it looks literally like a flying cock and balls😂
Amen. It’s amazing how a 60+ year old jet still looks sexy and futuristic to this day. What a beautiful piece of machinery. 🇺🇸
Ein herrliches Modell !
Was hätte ich dafür gegeben das Original zu fliegen !
Stunning! A work of art, just like the real one! Flies beautifully!
I still think the Blackbird shouldn't have been retired. Satellites have regular orbits and can be predicted and hidden from - not so for an aircraft that can fly over at any time!
The only thing that could have made this better was a sonic boom !
Everyone else can go home now.
Funny! What about the Guy with a single propeller just looking at it....
The Black Bird is the sexiest plane ever built.
Wow. Usually when I see these SR-71's as RC's the flop around and seem on the verge of falling out of the sky. This thing is solid.
The owner/builder must be a Skunkworks employee?
That was my first thought too. This is flying amazingly well. The real sr needed stability assist (SAS) to help keep the thing flying straight.
When you think you're the coolest guy in the parking lot, and then this guy shows up.
I was mesmerized by the pilots skill and the beauty of that sleek bird's agility. Awesome video of an awesome work of passion.
Sled Drivers Major Brian Shul (R.I.P.) and his RSO Colonel Walter Watson would be proud to see this SR71 rc model. Congratulations to the builder(s) of this most amazing aircraft. The original from SkunkWorks designed and built in the '60's, still beautiful and futuristic today.
The most beautiful flying machine ever made.
Gee! That 'bird is much more manouverable than the "real" thing. Beautiful model and well-flown. Loved the low passes. Ground handling was so precise. Fine videography.
yeah because its a small model. airplane models are alwasy more manouverable, because they are much more overpowered than the full scale thing.
@@snakeplissken2148 True. But Lest not forget that flying that thing. Doesn't have the the same serious consequences if you fail,as the real one,Were you had to plan far ahead of the turn.
Wow, the craftmanship and airmanship to build and fly this model is wonderful. I can only imagine the expense. It must be in the tens of thousands of USD!!! Great model and video. Kudos to the pilot and cameraman!
Kelly Johnson, was certainly a man WAY ahead of his time
Bro this is so cool. Lots of blood sweat and tears went into the building of that plane
Amazing model. It must be so satisfying for the builders to see their remarkable aircraft flashing across the sky!
Saw the plane while at Kadena AB, Okinawa. The blue shock trail while climbing was awesome. One time I was out catching some sun and I opened my eyes to see the SR-71 about 500 feet above me gliding in for a landing. I had no idea they landed without power - well at least that day there was no power.
Airforce 72-76
What a stunning model! Expertly flown and sounds good too 👍🏻
Thank you :)
@@RCHeliJet you’re welcome 🙏🏻
That is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! The original SR-71 Blackbird sure was one beautiful aircraft - and so is this one!!!
Truly an amazing feat to build and fly this incredible model aircraft! It was an experience I won't forget soon because it felt like I was there hearing and seeing all the moves. Thanks for sharing this video with the rest of us mere mortals. Cheers from Texas, USA!
That is just amazing. Beautifully built and brilliantly flown. I'm just in total awe.
Man I live in Palmdale ca seen it fly many times and that model looks just as good as the real one
Aye, someone else from Palmdale/lancaster. I had a ticket for the airshow in March until it got cancelled.
"Don't worry honey, I'll get you a ring NEXT year."
All I can say is Wow! Absolutely amazing! That bird had to be going a good ninety knots on its first low level pass at about 14 feet off the deck.
That looks amazing. It's my favourite aircraft and this RC model really does it justice. The sound from its jet engines is awesome.
The black bird was ahead of it's time
That's the most satisfying because realistic looking and sounding RC aircraft I saw so far! 👍
Something I don't hear about too often, but I would think it takes great skill to fly these from the ground. I would imagine it would take a lot of skill to land it as well.
I am more than impressed! What an amazing model and he is very skilled at the helm! Truly amazed! I would love to see this in person!
Even in model form, that shape is awesome.
This is a great tribute to the legendary aircraft, probably the best I’ve ever seen. I was born in 1964, the same year the SR71 made its maiden flight. If my mother told me that I arrived on earth one night as a baby carried by a giant black bird, I’d be very pleased indeed 😊
Everybody else with a plane at the event: That guy shouldn't be able to come next year. Let's ban him!
I can see them getting their planes out of the van, see the SR 71 and just drop their heads turn around kick a few stones, and leave...
We just need someone to bring x-15 to beat him😂😂😂
apoek.lizt.blitz as : Eeehhh, I would wonder about controllability on the X-15. Plus it has nothing on the Blackbird’s looks.
why should they? rc plane enthusiasts are a nerdy bunch without hate against each other. if someone brings a cool model up, they like it and appreaciate. (or how this damn word is spelled correctly)
@@snakeplissken2148 because they are hypothetically jealous, of course. You know it's just a joke, right?

@@Fister_of_Muppets yes it was especially when that "12 year old was reaching for the mic" and it was Walter in the back seat!
Absolutely amazing craft.
I'm 4 years late to this party but, awesome jet, awesome RC flying and awesome camera work!
A very beautiful model this is!! She's got some great speed too. Now, I have to say, that's how you bring the Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird" back to life!! With a magnificent tribute to this wonderful airplane, I have to admit, that the incredible SR-71 model, would be a true show-stopper. Great work!!!!
I wonder what the RC scale speed is relative to the real SR-71- she look really fast. Flight time is obviously short (yeah, duh), but just imagine if it could go hours?
That defines the very word : IMPRESSIVE
this model is big & nice rc model
I had the opportunity to see the real one at the Warner Robbins aviation museum in GA. I didn't realize how big and long the sr71 was. What an Amazing aircraft
It’s so stable in flight ,looks so real, great job!!!
There is no need for VR with these around. Please take a minute to just admire how full on the attention to detail was on this machine. Too many things to say so simply thank you Sir/s
I've always appreciated the building process and attention to detail with R/C. Building was always my favorite part. These guys are truly on another level and do some of the most amazing work.
That is an awesome rc blackbird , the '71 has always been my favorite 👍👍
Tears of joy are streaming down for this spectacular performance of RC acuity…just crying
OMFG, you guys are Gods of RC!!! This is the most incredible RC plane I've ever seen. Kudos and unlimited praise!
Awesome RC scale jet. I love the Blackbird, been fascinated with it my whole life. I own a much less complicated version, but still, comes in sat over 4 ft. long. Instead is powered by turbofan bladed LiPO battery fed engines.
Great looking build, and flying in front of a crowd guys, always tough to do.
I built one too out of Dollar Tree foamboard and balsa with dual 70mm EDFs. But it only flew off grass twice. It was underpowered for grass runways and wouldn't get airborne without max runway and dry ground, dead grass. I gave the airframe away after not flying it for 2 years. Great modeling here with this one.
I personally have watched “The Habu” SR-71 Blackbird fly in and out of a certain island in the far east. Go Air Force
That part where the plane cuts and goes straight up is like the real thing too. Really brought back memories of Vietnam. And good memories too.
Damn near sounds and looks like the real deal in some of the shots....
That is a beautiful beast!! I can’t imagine how much fuel it burns with two jet turbine engines!! A wonderful piece of work, skilfully flown!!
used to see the real ones pretty regularly when i was up on the family farm in Suffolk, had one go over us one day at about 500 ft,while out muck spreading ,it was heading into mildenhall ,so nice to see a rc version .
When was this? Did the U.S. have them flying in the UK or did the UK have them also?
I was lucky enough at a Mildenhall airshow back in the 1980s to go inside the open hanger with my young son. It was just sitting there with the cockpits open. Totally alone we climbed the steps up to look into the cockpit. Everything was black! all the dials etc and a it was a tiny cramped space! The fuselage paintwork looked like old dusty velvet but with a strange texture when I stroked it. We were in awe of this futuristic flying machine and it was so beautiful. Ive never forgotten it or talking to it and we were the only two people in there. No one else was around. Recently I have met this blackbird again at Duxford where he is now housed on permenant display, being the same one that was at Mildenhall. I am so thrilled to have found him again. I've loved this beauty since that day back at Mildenhall when my son and I chatted to him. ❤ Xx
Fascinating bird flying perfectly.
In 1965, while TWA passengers flew leisurely to LA, the SR-71 Blackbird raced at over five times their speed, known only to Skunk Works. This supersonic marvel remained hidden from the public eye, redefining the limits of aviation with its clandestine speed.
Nice, nice , nice what a fast mover. You made a great show for us. The backdrop was magnificent also. Thanks.
These Kind Aircraft models that Are flown remotely Is Just Amazing ! Aircraft Carriers Should Carry About 25 Of These Aircraft On board to make the enemy piss away their Missiles And distract the Enemy Can You imagine 100 of these flying around during a combat mission ? I don’t think A Missile could hit one of these little Monsters ! I Truly Believe That This Kind Of Aircraft Could make the Enemies Piss Away A lot of million Dollar missiles ! And I doubt They Could Even Hit one !
Well except some crazy Russian hypersonic anti aircraft missile nowadays. But yes back in its time SR-71 is immune to any missiles and interceptors. Pinnacle of technology
I'll bet the Skunkworks are really jealous, considering the fly-by-wire controls the real SR-71 has because it flies on the edge of instability to be stealthy and fast.
you deserve an award really
Absolutely beautiful aircraft, my all time favourite. ( well, that and the Mosquito )
PR NOTHALL what about the A12
Same here, plus the Phantom.
That is freaking amazing, do you have ay Build videos? I saw a scale Concord that was incredible but the SR-71 is so much less stable airframe, I cannot believe you made it fly so well.
The SR-71 still holds up after all this time. One of my favorites to this day. Such an amazing replica and an even more amazing pilot!
Incredible skill to build and to fly. I would love to see it in person.
I can't wait for someone to make a REAL scale R/C model of the SR-71.
Who missed something here, me or you?
@@KS-wt9gj ahhh yeah, what was she waiting for again? Edit: she got 5 thumbs up!😳
@@KS-wt9gj I think they're thinking with real afterburners instead of the LED rings.
It can also pass for the a12. There are subtle differences primarily in the cockpit outline and the fuselage lines

Absolutely amazing
I'm in love with the afterburners !! Well done.
Yes, afterburn brings you in another dimension in flying
They're just a ring of fairy lights. Yet to see a model fly with real afterburners
Omg!!!! So sweet!
The SR-71 design was beyond fast so how fast is this model it seemed way fast and flew perfectly until approach landing but they caught it and landed well. My favorite plane and many others also!!!
I don't believe aliens have ever visited us, nor will we ever visit them. Space is too vast.
Yet the SR-71 is _the most alien man-made construct_ I've ever seen, it baffles the mind how this thing was being developed in the 1940s when steam engines were still widely in use.
abloogywoogywoo don‘t underestimate the level of engineering artistry behind steam engines, especially of the 40‘s and 50‘s!
Ok, that was impressive ...
*HOW AWESOME IS THAT...WOW!!!*
Amazed the dual engines can be synchronized so it doesn't spin sideways at flight speeds. Great control system.
That guy can fly this plane very well! I mean he is GOOD!
Awesome video. The SR-71 will always be an awesome plane . The real model or the Rc model.
BOTH
We need a 1/4 scale version of this with true to scale fully functional afterburners.
Kelly was one hell of a aerospace engineer...
Considering that the aerodynamic design was for Mach 3+ flight, I am amazed it performs this well at subsonic speeds.
Who thought this plane was bigger when you look at the thumbnail?
Stall speed 125 KPH ? That thing is FAST !
Hankorama If this model with all its looks were to fly around an air show slow like a normal RC plane, I’d probably have to go throw up.
Other rc aircraft could reach around 725 kph, well that fast enough
The best looking plane to have ever been built ever! Still futuristic!!!
I am totally amazed. I wasn’t aware this kind of model airplane was possible. I didn’t even know there were jet model airplanes. It would seem to make all other model airplanes in any competition in any part of the world obsolete. Is everyone else there thinking, “OK, let’s all pack up and go home?” Is there anything else worth watching?
someone needs to build a scale model of the in-air refueling that can actually refuel
Having someone fly a in flight refiling rc plane and having another rc plane successfully refuel from it would without a doubt be the greatest feat of RC plane piloting ever done.
@@e2rqey I've given it some thought much like the real refueler you could give it to tandem controls and the person controlling the fueling is a VR headset
@@kenjackben prop engine would be simpler i think because of the lower speeds, but yes a VR headset is required. maybe adding some magnets to repell the airplanes a bit so that it doesn´t come to a crash. and the fueling system is electromagnetic.
@@Humbulla93 can a jet like that fly slow or does it only have one speed proper throttle control for the jet is a must have
