Also in the 9th edition the flavor text was : "“Once I saw a goblin shouting at a thunderstorm. He lost the argument pretty quickly.” -Wandering mage This is probably a reference to Toggo (the shock from 8th edition had the flavor text with toggo too)
5:07 That isn’t a depiction of the combo. At least, not exactly. In the lore for Shadows Over Innistrad, Nahiri summoned Emrakul from the Blind Eternities to take revenge on Sorin, bringing about an apocalypse now known as The Travails. Both the card and Nahiri’s ult depict her doing this, especially seeing as Nahiri The Harbinger was printed in SOI block.
My favorite Easter egg in Magic is that the story of the Witchstalker in core 2014 gets continued in Eldraine with Fierce Witchstalker, with a burning witch's hut in the background of the art. It also shows that we got a glimpse of the plane of Eldraine many years before its release. Makes you wonder what other unassuming core set cards could become flavor for planes not introduced yet.
There’s also that story of the Angel in that’s take solace over 4 sets and cards. It’s Angel of Flight Alabaster, Angel of Finality, Flameblade Angel, and Clip Wings. It tells the story of the same Angel
I was chatting with Jason Engle the other day and he mentioned that in the card Grim Wanderer all the other people in the pub are fellow artists. One of which is Steve Argyle. The others I don't remember but definitely a fun easter egg.
Morphling was powerful because damage used the stack. You could attack with it pumped to max, then as the damage went on the stack, pump the toughness in response.
@@joosttijsen3559 in the old days damage used the stack. If you paid 2 blue mana you could make him 5/1. You attack and they block with a 5/5. You put 5 damage to the blocker on the stack, and they put 5 damage to morphling on the stack. Then in response pay 5 blue mana making morphling 0/6. Then your 5 damage is dealt to the blocker, killing it, and 5 damage is done to your 0/6 morphling, and it lives. That’s why damage using the stack is silly and they don’t do it anymore.

The Avarice Amulet one is also a running joke from Penny Arcade, where Gabe and Tycho were constantly fighting for a Pac-Man watch throughout the years. The card illustration is in fact a reference to a comic from March 02, 2002.
Yup, I’m a little surprised to see this card here since it’s not really a secret Easter egg, WotC was proud to show off the cards in m15 designed by people/properties not part of them. There’s a red enchantment by the people of Minecraft in there as well.
The card itself was designed by the Penny Arcade guys - there were a bunch of guest designers in m15, including Edmund McMillan, of meatboy and binding of isaac fame; george fan, designer of plants vs zombies; David Sirlin, fighting game and board game designer; and many more.
Tribute mage also depicts the sword of the meek and is able to tutor for it. There is a slight story in the flavor text for the judge and eternal masters versions of Gamble which follow a thief named Chira on some sort of indiana jones type adventure and even has a rolling boulder trap reference.
The alternative art of Fatal Push kinda looks like the iconic Tempest artwork of Diabolic Edict which depicts Vhati il-Dal thrown from the Predator. I wonder if that is intentional or coincidence.
FYI on Nahiri the plot to inistrad 2 was her trying to summon Emrakul to destroy the place and Sorin trying to stop her (she didn't get the memo about the eldrazi being stopped on Zendikar)
Ok, so basically the Eldrazi began stirring, Nahiri called for help from Ugin and Sorin, and she ended up fixing it all on her own. She finds Sorin sitting on his ass doing nothing on Innistrad because apparently Avacyn was blocking her messages and gets furious. Sorin basically has her thrown into the Hellvault with all the other demons Avacyn had captures for centuries until Liliana busts it open. When she gets out and planeswalks to Zendikar, she popped up on the ruined Bala Ged and believed the entire plane was that way. Even more furious, she decides to call the eldrazi to Innistrad the same way she, Sorin, and Ugin had called them to Zendikar originally. Than Nahiri fights Sorin, traps him in a wall, and does... pretty much nothing after that.
But she did get the memo! She tried to help. If the strongest Eldrazi is not on Zendikar, stopping the Eldrazi on Zendikar would be easier. if it destroys Sorin home, it is even better!
@@LuisBarrim I think her summon was not directed specifically to Emrakul, rather Emrakul was the only one still left to be summoned. So I suppose she might have been trying to pull all three off of Zendikar.
The Tempest version of Time warp has a flavor text of "Let's do it again" that is supposed to be a call back to the Ricky Horror Picture Show musical number "Let's do the Time Warp Again!"
There is another extended art over multiple cards, back in Champions of Kamigawa: the Yamazaki Brothers! One of my pet cards. Love this spinoff series Nikachu, they are lit 🔥
Can you really blame Nahiri for summoning Emrakul to Innistrad? I mean Sorin imprisoned her in the Helvault during which the Eldrazi broke free and all but destroyed her home plane of Zendikar. Still it’s cool to see a canon interaction like that depicted on a card.

Thus the 5 card infinite loop with a mana cost was born. Swarm the field with 1/1 tokens until you can win outright. with 52 life just cause you can.
On the Sun Titan one, the Premium Deck series: Graveborn art for the Animate Dead also features the Sun Titan being risen. Also, since Animate Dead is a 2 mana Aura, it synergises with the titan quite nicely (albeit in a different order than the art would suggest). There's also a short story told by Pristine Angel and the Scars of Mirrodin version of Grasp of Darkness (seems like someone didn't keep a spare instant to untap when needed...). Darksteel Relic has a dark irony wherein the flavor says that the relic is the last thing the mirrans can call their own while, in the image, the round shape of the relic and the darksteel golden ring aura together form the phyrexian symbol (Phy). Plus, the Darksteel Relic is also featured in the Withstand Death art, which makes a creature temporarily indestructible, being used as a protective shield.

This may have been mentioned already, but apparently Morphling actually came back as Endling, a zombie. The card is from Modern Horizons, which came out well past Morphling's glory days.
AFAIK Nahiri "summoned" Emrakul to Inistrad as revenge because during the rise of the eldrazi Sorin was afk enjoying his life on his plane even though he swore he would help if the eldrazi ever escaped (since Nahiri, Sorin and Ugin were the original planeswalkers that sealed the Eldrazi) . The art in Nahiri the Harbringer is refering to her destroying the Markov Manor as well. So yeah, she angery
For the commander deck armed for battle the Box Commander is wielding a sword that is also an equip item I've got the deck but I don't want to look at it I think it's called Soul fire sword or something like that Edit: the creature is CALLED Wyleth, Soul of Steel and the equipment card is Blazing Sunsteel and you can see his left arm holding the sword
It should also be noted that Avarice Amulet was designed by Penny Arcade, a comic strip where one of the main characters wears a pacman shirt in every strip.
theres also krenko mob boss and krenkos command the goblins in the art of krenkos command appear in the background of mob boss. i noticed this when i first started playing cause i bought the krenko dual decks

There's something in the Guilds of Ravnica set that had a hidden message with italics. I want to say it was either the gates or the guildmages or something like that. Pretty cool one, but I forget what it says
I think I covered it in my first Easter egg video!
omagad nika bruh ! do more videos like this ! just perfect !
This may have been mentioned already, but apparently Morphling actually came back as Endling, a zombie. The card is from Modern Horizons, which came out well past Morphling's glory days.
Love the 4 lil goblins Arc... I hace 3 of them
Goblin Archaeologists artwork has Mirrodin Artifact lands in the background.
Surprised no one already mentioned it but pheldagrif is an anagram for Garfield, phd
For the commander deck armed for battle the Box Commander is wielding a sword that is also an equip item I've got the deck but I don't want to look at it I think it's called Soul fire sword or something like that
Edit: the creature is CALLED Wyleth, Soul of Steel and the equipment card is Blazing Sunsteel and you can see his left arm holding the sword
Sword of the meek is also on tribute mage art btw.
It should also be noted that Avarice Amulet was designed by Penny Arcade, a comic strip where one of the main characters wears a pacman shirt in every strip.
Marang river prowler, and Marang River Skeleton are the same person but depict different timelines of Tarkir.
Hey Josh!
The Module combo only works for as long as you have mana. If they made a card that lets you use energy as mana. Then it would be an infinite loop.
theres also krenko mob boss and krenkos command the goblins in the art of krenkos command appear in the background of mob boss. i noticed this when i first started playing cause i bought the krenko dual decks
I love that they put "american gothic" on rotten reunion!
Hi Josh!
Idk if Nezahal is supposed to be a fully grown Mystic Remora. But I like to prented that they are the same. Since they both have the same ability
You are up early. I'm old so these things really speak to me.
10:24 that looks like Marisi, Breaker of the Coil and not Ajani. The hint is the beard
The creature in Pemmin's Aura also has the wings and tail of the Morphling impostor in the original card.
Tamiyo Journal easter egg is amazing!
Impress your friends!
Hi Josh! 👋
your bottom right meme cat was Kemba, Kha Regent
Fblthp. That’s a good one😂
Thanks, Nikachu! Enjoying the content as always! Got any gameplay videos in the works? I’m interested to see what tools you are employing against Rakdos midrange.
I feel like through the breach is less of an easter egg and more of a reference of what happened in lore
@ 10:30 Did this dude just put off Kemba?
