  • At the time of posting this video we have three vintage Gibson ES-175 Archtops available, a 1957 with Throbak pickups, a 1960 with Gibson MHS pickups, and a 1962 with Seymour Duncan (59 in the neck and Custom Custom in the bridge). These guitar were all set up the same with Thomastik Infeld Jazz Swing flatwound strings and played through a Clark Low Country amp which is a Fender Tweed High Power Twin (5F8-A) clone. The amp was routed through a 2x12 cabinet loaded with Weber Ceramic California speakers and captured with a Samson Q2U going straight into an iPhone 12 Pro.

    I recently started listening to Johnathan Kriesberg, who uses one of these. Unreal sound. I don’t play jazz, but I really want one!

    I love archtops, and the ES 175 is one of my favs. I have always wanted one, or at least a replica since I can't afford one. Then I discovered they could be too wide for me, I find dreadnought acoustics unconfy too... so I bought smaller archtops. I have owned an Ibanez AG95 (I traded it for a telecaster) and an AG85 (which I still have, I got it used for a bargain and I plan installing 2 humbuckers to replace the mini hums). The 57 is my fav, it's all I expect on a jazz guitar: warm, sweet and... dreamy haha. Thanks a lot for sharing this :)

    Hello, may I ask which set of Throbaks are on the 57? I think they sound the best. The MHS sets sound surprisingly nice on the 60!

      The MHS are great pickups, seriously. The ‘57 has the standard SLE-101 Throbak set.

    Seems they get brighter with newer guitar pick ups. All have a great tone

    Was there only a room mic? I read it was captured with a samson q2U. I was under the impression on the 1960 the amplified sound was less apparent and i heard more the "acoustic" sound.

      I honestly don’t remember. This was pretty impromptu and I’m not sure what the mic placement was. This may have just been a room mic.

    Bridge pick up was used while called neck pick up..🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @ThatRhythmMan
      @ThatRhythmMan  Рік тому

      Right you are! The bridge pickup section was accidentally labeled neck pickup. I’ll have to see what I can do, if anything, to fix that. Thanks.
