Ive been playing guitar for 50 years and stupidly enough I didn't know of Louie Shelton but heard him a great number of times as all people, Wow am Im stupid..Louie you are a class act. Thank you!
Louie is a session legend. He's the guy you heard playing that sweet jazz tone on hundreds of hit records from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's etc. Great video.Legendary guitarist and musician.
As an Australian i just want to say thankyou, Especially to you American folk because you guys always say such kind things about us Aussies and it really is nice to know that the rest of the world likes us! And i am truley greatful to have been born and raised in the greatest place on Earth. Stay safe America, god bless and cheers from Australia! And thank you Norm, love your videos! 🤟
Man , on top of being an amazing guitar player that is largely responsible for some of musics most iconic riffs, he is one heck of a swell guy it seems. So down to earth and humble . It would be a dream just to sit and talk with him . Class act !
When I heard the songs that Louie played on, I realized that he was actually one of my earliest guitar heroes...seeing Mike Nesmith playing the solo to Valerie always left me with my jaw on the floor as a kid, it was Louie! The guitar work in Summer Breeze...Louie! The Jackson 5 stuff...and on and on. Now I know why I was partly drawn to certain songs, he was the guitar player on each and every one of them! A legend.
Had the same reaction to Valerie as a kid! What's that crazy good guitar? I live in Brisbane Australia and have seen Louie in local clubs as he lives just down the road on the Gold Coast. A true legend.
He is outstanding to say the least. Today's " revered " guitarists are not even half the guitarist he is, in fact, they are not fit to carry his guitar case.
1039sflem: I gave you a thumbs down just to be picky on you. You are correct about touch, tone, taste and timing, getting smooth jazzy... but... I didn't see him standing there, banging the guitar against his hip in beat for a rhythm treat, tapping the head-stock to make notes sustain forever, tapping the body, flipping switches, playing with his teeth, rubbing the neck on a mike stand....
Louie played with every big name out there.he helped most of them on their way.Louie,Larry carlton, and players like that helped us have the music we have today.great job louie!
Louie is so humble and real! One of the very best session musicians of all time. Thanks Norman for having Louie and giving us a thrill of all his monster hits.
love louie and what a humble man! Australia is lucky to have him. Glad he comes to visit and let us enjoy a lifes time of some of the best solos, riffs, presentation, phrasing on guitar. Hearts and applause
We all know the Guitar Heroes ... Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, BB King, Clapton, Richards, Hendrix, Beck, Page, Gilmour, Lukather, Knopfler, Van Halen et al. But there are also the Silent Guitar Heroes ... Kaye, Burton, Shelton, Tedesco, Vic Flick et al. Every bit as good and just as deserving of our adulation.
Louie is such a humble guy and I am glad he lives here in my state . . I remember his input with Seales & Croft & still love his licks and solos . . . it takes me back to rich & exciting musical days. Thank you for that beautiful interview . . so very much appreciated.
thanks for posting this one. These guys need to be shown as often as possible while they are still with us. A scene, sadly, that will never happen again
A player like Louie Shelton naturally gravitates to a Gibson 175. The tone of this guitar is reminiscent of the 50s and 60s era of music when jazz was being played by all the session musicians of that era. Great to hear someone do justice to such a beautiful sounding instrument. Louie Shelton plays all the genres and make this guitar sound appropriate for any setting.
This guy brought back so many memories of the radio in my parent s car his tone his style of playing the works of art he will leave behind can't be measured thanks norn please stay safe
Circling the drain indeed! Hey that's me....... well and truly on the cemetery side of sixty. Those tunes were, and still are, a part of the soundtrack of my life. Goodonya Louie.
Never heard of him - but we've sure heard him a lot ! Louie's playing credits are like a jukebox of massive hits - hope he got royalty on some of those & not just session fee !
Never knew about Louie until now but he's obviously a phenomenal guitarist. I remember picking up the solo from "Hello" in my teens as the band I was playing in was sort of joking around with it. It was one of those songs that we found somewhat funny but still liked and respected. We were very impressed by the solo and I think I may have been under the impression that it was George Benson. I could pick up most of it from memory because it was so melodic and I had heard it so many times, probably on MTV in part. Love Louie's playing here. I want that ES-175D!
Legendary and iconic that this man has been a part of some of the greatest music ever made. How unfortunate that this new generation is so detached and will never know any of that great music😳
Wow wow wow. Louie shelton. Never thought i would see him live but i have now. What a great great musician all around nice guy. Unsung star here. Great interview. Thanks for posting this. !
Thak you Norm! For always putting a smile on my face and feel good about music! It's always historic when I see your videos, I need to come by and meet you. I'm like you come from the sixties. What a lovely man Louie Sheldon, I remember him from Silk Degrees when he was recording at Davlen Sound Studios.
Iam realizing lately that the artist and writers come up with the ideas but guys like this really bring them to life and give the songs the final polish that turns them into master pieces and huge hits.
The Wrecking Crew was the best musically talented players in the world! Louie Sheldon you live the Dream on in New Zealand and I hear it’s the Paradise of all the world beautiful people and landscapes in New Zealand!
I'll bet he's a good fisherman cause he put the hook in all my favorite tunes...
thank you for my youth
I don't get it....dad.
Well, you KNOW he likes seafood. "Cause he's made a lot of clams doing what he loves...

How great his work will be enjoyed for centuries to come!
Watching Louie play is like watching magic for me and I’ve been playing myself for 25 years.pure magic

most REALLY good players are humble.
He is an iconic legend
We're so fortunate Louie found a new home in Australia these past 25-30 odd years...Happy to say I've had the honour to Record with Louie....
Best Norman's rare guitars segment I've seen to date.

Pure talent.
the best sets of hands I have ever seen play a guitar. Amazing touch, tone, taste and timing.
