    Hi, Jay; for your information, we have great brain surgeons here, and our doctors also perform open heart surgery on a regular basis, with 0 complications; you can find a qualified specialist for any medical emergency that arises; and that includes back and neck surgery, too. Great video, stay safe and congrats.

      Having said that, a lot of Americans come to the D.R for mayor dental works and implants, which are way cheaper here.

    During my visit, when we linked up, it took me 3 days to establish a personal bank account at Banreservas. The min amount was, as you stated, $500 USD. Additionally, I applied for and was approved for a loan of $180k. What's crazy is that took all of 2 hrs and included approval of an open account and debit card.
    DISCLOSURE: The loan was NOT through Banreservas, only the personal banking account. Association Cibao approved my loan. Additionally, I misquoted the loan amount. The amount approved was for $108k opposed to $180. My apologies. That was the purchasing cost of the condo.

      You have to give more details. SO what was the calateral? Was was the income requirement? The credit score requirement? 180k is a enough to buy a whole rental property, so i know they didnt just sign papers and shake your hand with a wink and give you 180k.

    • @soliisoul3172
      @soliisoul3172 4 місяці тому +4

      @PolishBehemoth My apologies. I misquoted the loan amount and corrected it in my post. I was approved for $108k, not $180. As with most foreign purchases of property abroad, there is typically an investment of so much cash collateral upfront. This is collected through a series of installments due during set stages outlined in your buying agreement. For me, it was a new build where I paid 20% of the cost of the condo upfront. This was followed by an additional 2 installments of 10% of cost of condo each with the remaining amount due at completion of the build.
      US credit scores aren't typically shared overseas due to data protection laws and identity. Technically, it's not tied to what it is in the purchasing country if a local lender is used. Credit worthiness is demonstrated then through a list of financial documents you must present to the lender for proof. In my case, I didn't have to show any credit score information, but I did present W2's, proof of employment, banking statements, income, and disclose any evidence of debts. When doing so, I had a friend present with me who assisted with all interpretations.
      If interested, I can share my lenders name with you if you so desire.

    You will need paperwork to get a job (I know haitians and venezuelans get jobs with no paperwork but they don’t get any benefits) to get enrolled on the healthcare system, to open a bank account, to do business (like registration of trademarks and businesses), if you try to go to college (there huge financial incentives if you become a national instead of registering as a foreigner)
    There are benefits on getting residency and becoming a naturalized citizen.

    I’d love to know if insurance companies would actually decline a claim if the driver is overstaying on their visa. It’s not as if they ask for your residency when you purchase the insurance - they are happy to accept the premium payments from ‘gringos’.

    J, DR has no healthcare Guidelines, there is no HEDIS review or CMS, and the Dominican DOH may or may not be lead by a doctor. So, when it comes to healthcare you’re pretty much at the mercy of what you know and where you go. You can’t suit a doctor for malpractice, and Meds are not covered. So for preventive care, sure they sort of work, but for preexisting conditions or to managed comorbidities, it’s tricky. Now, if you are a MEDICARE RECIPIENT and you have an advantage plan in the states; DO NOT GET RID OF IT. cause if you have to go and be treated you gonna be penalized for opening a plan. Be sure to keep paying those premiums so when time comes for you to get something done here, you don’t pay through your nose. If you’re on Medicare, go and verify what I’m saying before you stop re-certifying.
    Great as usual J. 👍

Never seen dismal hospital conditions like that. No sterile conditions for some procedures, dirty rooms, dried blood on the mattress and walls, flies, a horror show. Zero standards. Very eye opening; medieval comes to mind. His room was shared by two other patients with infections from diabetes. Family sleeping on the floor on cardboard. Had to bring his sheets and feed him through his stomach tube. Paid a nurse for extra checks on him - which amounted to drive bys by her to say “probecito.” Not even going to describe what we had to do with his body when he passed. I always have an evac plan back to the U.S. when I visit. Just my experience.

      @@kah4325 sadly, that’s the state of affairs for the uninsured. Public hospitals have not ever been “kosher” primarily I feel people don’t care because they are supposed to be “free” … of course you have to bring even the alcohol to clean the wounds of one’s relative so yes. It’s rough. The private clinics, which accept private insurance have slightly better conditions, at least esthetically speaking. I know of a high class clinic that everyone I know that goes there leaves dead. So, yeah, it’s rough. That’s why my mom has to come once a year to re-certify her insurance here even though we also have insurance there for her day to day. You can’t play with our fraile elderly.

    Jay, you must of made this video on the fly. The info you've provided is nowhere near the caliber of your previous videos, especially those with wifee. Just to identify a few things, you contradicted yourself about the visa requirements. First you say no, a visa is not needed...then you say a tourist visa is issued upon arrival at the airport. That sounds like a yes to me, caveat with, you do not need to obtain a visa in advance. How else can you overstay your visa if you've never received one? Besides, where is the visa penalty graph you mentioned? Dude, you chopped the hell out of the foreign earned income exclusion (FEIE) piece. It's not a 350 day limit, it's 330 days out of the U.S accumulatively in a 1-year period. And you are still taxed, with FICA withholdings and social security. You are only exempt from federal tax, and even with that there are additional rules. Just as you mentioned, a simple google search could answer that question. Most of the questions covered were addressed in full detail in some of your previous videos. Just refer them to the video instead of just winging it. Like the question to move to Dom Rep....you and wifee dropped a full segment on that in crazy detail. You've answered that. I'm not trying to cherry pick your video or knock your hustle. I've learned a lot from your previous videos that will help me during my transition. Including this one, especially the part about earning a living there. Great piece, and I appreciate you for that.
