My Guide To Moving To Dominican Republic | Moving Abroad
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- I’ve lived in 3 islands and 1 country. Completely different cultures and cost of living. And the one thing I’ve learned over the years is that you really need to plan things out before you do them. So, if you’re watching this video, I’m going to give you my guide to moving abroad and how to go about it.

1. Entry Requirements, tourist visa, and staying requirements
This should be the first thing on yourself
To know what you need to enter and what you need to stay in the country
I can stay here all I want because I was born here
2. Don’t forget about these simple things that are super important
Your Phone Plan
Health Insurance
What I do to keep my US number Active
I use Tello and pay $7, 1GB of internet, 300M to call, and unlimited text
I’ll be switching to no gigs, and unlimited text and calls
If I go to the US then I can still use it and access WhatsApp
Their cheapest plan is $5
Health Insurance:
I use Humano
My grandpa's sense
And some people larimar
Don’t compare prices to the US because you’ll get the highest plan when you don’t need too
I have the second 1st year plan, I only care about being covered under big emergencies, not getting covered for any small stuff like a doctor's visit, medicine, and so on
I recommend you save up at least 3-6 months for emergencies so if something does happen you cash
3. Fully Furnished Rental or Airbnb ( compare prices and pick your choice)
I recommend Airbnb
Because you can change back and forth to different places without any issues, while with a rental unless it is month to month, it’ll be more complicated
The benefit to this, is to cover the living aspect and be able to check out the area
I recommend this:
Stay here for a minimum of 3 months, best 6 months
Until it feels like you are wasting money and that you know everything
But even then resist the urge to move
This is important because it prepares you
Tip: be careful with the gringo tax, it's getting charged more for being a foreigner, this only changes as you become more well-versed with prices and the culture, be patient and observe
4. Do not rush into buying a Property
Tax advantage
Incentives
Blah blah
If you haven’t been here for at least 2 years I don’t recommend it
I’ve seen people make this mistake
Move somewhere, think they’ll live there forever
Buy a house and a car
And then a year later sell everything
It better rent ( I got lucky but it could have turned out pretty bad )
Tip: talk to me after 24 months of living in a location, you’re mindset will be a lot more different trust me ( I’ve been renting and I’ve changed a lot over the last 2 years )
5. When Moving remember this
Sell, Store, or Ship: Looking back I would have sold 90% of my stuff and just shipped a small box with personal stuff
However I paid 3k to move my stuff from Puerto Rico, it was well worth it, beucase the replacement value was over 10k ( sometimes it makes sense )
Learn the Language: At least basic ideas, living in a nice area is cool but you’ll be in the worst position if you don’t learn it
Safety: Does not mean more expensive
Try not to stand out and be like the locals
I don’t wear fancy clothes or jewelry
6. My final tip
Join a community
And depending on where you live get an investor generator ( they cost 400-500 and eliminate a big part of the power going out worry )
Don’t spend a lot on it, just get enough for a few hours because power usually returns back pretty soon

Thank you for the content!! All we need is the right advice on how to invest in crypto and we will be set for life, made $58,000 profit from trading last month regardless of how bad it gets on the economy.
Same here all thanks to Miss Susan Marie Alessio, she has always been there to guide me through with detailed analysis and recommendations that I wouldn't have access to otherwise.
As beginner what do I need to do? How can I invest on which platform? If you know any please share.
Wow I'm shocked you mentioned expert Mrs Susan Marie Alessio, when someone is straight forward and good at what she does best. People will always speak for them.
I have heard about her excellent trading expertise in CNBC news, guess she's more popular in United States.
YES!!! That's exactly her name (Susan Marie Alessio) so many people have recommended highly about her and am just starting with her from Brisbane Australia
Everyone looking at me like why is his edges not right, I'm like 'I need a trim'. England might be different than D.R when it comes to cuts though. 🙏💪🏽
Can you make a video story time on how you got scammed in Puerto Rico?
That's a good idea. I was just overcharged several times because I wasn't a local
@@TommyBrysonahh ok makes sense. But yes I think that’s a good story to share if you ever get the chance or want to anyway . Thanks for responding
Yes! I would like to watch a video to learn about how you got scammed in PR.
How’s the economy and stock market in the DR?
thanks so much for this information. can I dm you and ask what town you decided to move to? my mom is in haina but we have 2 kids and want to pick a good school for them since theyll be learning spanish.
Can you please tell us different small town names Please so I can research.
Hey Tommy - Thanks a lot for your videos - great job! 🤗
I want to ask you seriously something - I’m willing to give you some economic benefits if you help me get something to do online to get income, and moving back to DR - I’m a man that live in NJ - but the case is that I prefer to get something with few English-Speaking needs - because I’m not fluent when talking. Maybe a job related to office, papers, computers and basic English interaction.
Sorry for asking you this kind of things.
And let me know if you dare to support me with that in a personal way.
Bye and good rest of your day!
Listen and acknowledge. So you don't end up Locked up abroad!
Always best to be prepared
Dude, out of the 5 things you mentioned not to do, I think I'm violating 7 of them. Jumping in feet first making a purchase in Punta Cana...stop shaking your head lol. I am coming in as an expat so I have nothing better to do other than to make this move work. I'll be alright. Have been watching your videos for some time now, and always leave with something to think about. Appreciate Ya! If I had any questions for you it would be about your commute and eventual transition from PR. Was it the norm for you to fly or catch the ferry to San Juan? Hypothetically speaking, if you were to purchase a tv or maybe furniture in PR and transport it via the ferry, will you have to pay any fees or taxes on your purchase during entry? Really concerned how invasion DR is with personal items accompanying you on the ferry.
It wouldn't be worth it. Atleast for me. Ferry tickets are about 1000 plus for me and my wife, with a car. So buying something in PR to bring to Dr would just cost somewhere around the same. It sucks I know. But these things tend to average out.
Lol I'm shaking my head, about the Punta Cana purchase. Take it slow, don't fall for what everyone is doing and how it's the next big thing. Do thing at a good pace for you. 😎🙏
I have issues waiting to do things also, everyday it seems like I want to buy a house or land. So I uninstalled Facebook marketplace to avoid this.
Did you leave the us to avoid paying taxes
That's a benefit. My main reason for leaving was family. To save on taxes more I could have just stayed in Puerto Rico
Great vid Tommy. DR is looking like a great place for expats especially with its proximity and ease of access to US.
Yes!!
Thanks Tommy!! This was great need to know information. Especially seeing how my family is planning to retire in the Dominican Republic
The best thing to do is run the numbers, alot of times you could retire alot earlier
I met Tommy since 2019 summer time
😎
Omg yea health insurance I need help I’m thinking of moving and i don’t even know where to start
What type of Jobs can I get knowing both english and spanish?
Alot of hotels like to hire bilingual
Miss you, Tommy. I met u on utube during the pandemic. God bless you!
Welcome back 🙌
Good Strategic Thinking 🔥
Thanks
