I have an apartment in Santo Domingo, este is better than my apartment in America. $280 a month with hot water, 15 mins from a beautiful beach, and gated in. I'm leaving America to move in December 4th. In America, my apartment and bills over $2,000. In DR my apartment and utilities $607. Big difference
@Tripl3Darkness Santo Domingo Este, sir, some don't look like much on the outside, but take a tour of the apartment. You'll be surprised how good the inside looks. Now, don't go to a run-down sh*t hole looking place. Oh no, haha.
Savings are massive. A 2 bed 1 bath like that in New York may be 1500-2,000. You would have running water 24/7 but still not safe to drink with a ton of fluoride and electricity would be solid though but for $100 extra a month. 🙃 I rather make this trade than have to earn an additional 1600 a month which at $20 an hour may be 80 hours/2 entire weeks of work

Like you, I am an naturalized citizen, living in the US from Nicaragua. Thanks to my late dad who recently passed last Dec for bringing us here legally 42 years ago. I visit Nicaragua each year and this is pretty similar there. It is improving, these are some of the things that I think about before moving to another country. I like the idea of cheap living.
I say it's worth it, the draw backs can be fixed. If I had my own place, I would consider some solar panels, a well with some good filtration and boom (FIXED). The most important thing to me, is safety, and living consition don't say much about safety. The community here is small, people are workers and everyone knows everyone.
I'm in the UK with bad weather and houses crammed so tightly together. An apartment like this would run you close to £2000. That's more than that rent for a whole year!!!😱😱😱
I moved from NY to DR (Santiago), back in 2012. Best decision I've ever made. There are big difference obv. Like the rent, utilities and whatnot. But, you have to make money to live well. After COVID, EVERYTHING went up. And some places, the rent doubled. I pay 10k pesos in rent for a house. Which is about 200 dollars. Light I pay about 2,600 pesos. 1 dollar is 60 pesos. And water sometimes IS a problem but we have a cisterna which houses water and can be filled with 1,000 pesos. I am about 20 mins from center of the city. I studied law here so I do practice law AND work for an IT company out in Chicago and my wife is a teacher in the public sector. So overall, i live well, but you have to have money in this country. And the well is NOT good for anything besides CLEANING! you shouldn't clean clothes or use to cook or shower unless you have a very good purification system which most don't.
I stay in Puerto plata right off the malecon im 5 minutes from beach. 4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms 450 a month and im about to get rid of it as i can probably get down to 300 if i walk another 15 minutes up the street.
Most likely!! I think when we first move somewhere safety is a big concern because of all the unknowns, but ones you know the area you can save alot of money by not paying premiums
You should mention how often the water blackouts occur? And how often you have to buy water to fill the 500 gallon drums if the power is out for a long time?
We haven't had an issue like that, where the light goes out for so long that the we need to buy water to fill the drums. The longest we went without power was probably 4-5 days. I should add though that water refills are not expensive. Drinking water, is less than 50cents for 5 gallons

@@TommyBryson 1 years rent is less than 1 months rent in my Georgia apartment that's enough to make me want to move to the DR. What I just paid to live here for 1 year and be stressed out could have been 8 years worth of rent in a place that's bigger, has better aesthetic and convenient to beach and good food. When I learned how cheap living in the DR was it made me not want to go to Nick Resorts. Good information. I've lived off and on in West Africa, so I know well the issues you are talking about. It's just something to adapt to if one is able. Let me ask you a question. What is late night and early morning noise like? Also, what neighborhood is the building in?
The cistern is not a Well. It fills up from the water you get when there is water from the utility. It just fills up at the same time as the things on top of the building. English is not my first language. Sorry if I didn’t explain well
It's a 3 step process. We have a well, that's over 60ft deep I think, the pump fills the cistern with the well water, and the big black gallons on top fill with the cistern water. No utility water needed.
@ ahh ok. I never heard of that process. Maybe it’s a country side thing. I live in Santiago. Very close to the Big monument. So, maybe we do it differently.

So, it costs $150, but it's up to you to upgrade your living; if you decide to move, you can't remove the upgrade but leave it there. It sounds like the landlord is using you guys to upgrade his apartments.
Not really. If theirs no hot water system, you'll have to set up the connection, and when you leave yo can take your heater but no one is going to take off the tubing. It's more of, if you want to make it, go ahead but that's not apart of the package. Honestly this isn't the dark side, it may seems like a drastic difference form the US but this is pretty normal here and around the world.
Even if you cannot take your upgrades with you, you can make a deal with the landlord, and they will subtract what you spent from your monthly payments.

Aaaah your assuming that only Americans watch my videos. People without a social media presence get robbed, always best to keep your personal information away from the internet.
Good value for sure. It all depends what you are comparing this too. Last I heard they are fixing that issue and should be up and running soon. Ps. The power issue as a whole, is a community issue, the electric wiring system is not made to power all the airconditioner that locals are installing thus they have to make upgrades. My questions is, what can you get for $150?
Definitely can't find anything for $150 a month in the US. Where I am, the best you can get is a small studio apartment (about 400 square feet) for $950 a month.
@@James-kd1kp my reply is get a place without all those issues. You could find something 350-400 . If you can only afford 150.00 then I would not suggest you move to the DR. Also isn't this in San Pedro?
It depends James, the main purpose of this apartment was to hold my furniture that I brought from Puerto Rico. But then I got tired of moving and decided to stay a little longer. What I've learned is, people are adaptable. If i were on a mission to build wealth, I would definitely take inconviniences and live in this place for longer. Like how alot of folks in the US live in shared apartments and rooms
Biggest LIE ever. 😂😂😂😂 it’s impossible to rent for under 500 USD in a décent área of the DR. i live here and I know what I’m talking about. Stop scamming people.
Remmeber Flint? And that water situation. Get a water analysis done on the your local water. ( check for the fluoride levels. Hot water is not a need lol, and it was more me being lazy to install it. Electricity, is a problem but inverter helps. Ps you can expect to pay here $20-50 bucks a months. With the savings you can afford a solid inverter. Appliances. That sucks honestly. But part of the game
Its not cheap living. It's simply your currency is stronger. Your also making the poor people more poor of that area 😂. Propane gas... Booom. Most Americans don't even know the torque specs of the car they drive. Not because they are dumb is more for they dont need to. Living in D.R. is taking steps backs. Bars on the windows and horrible health care. Great place to visit or vacation home. But there is a reason why people with money leave the D.R. the only people who stay are politicians. 60 percent the GDP is tourism. That means any war or global health. Everyone goes hungry in that country. I would not do any island countrys. That's my opinion
I disagree with your opinion. Read about 1929, " the Great depression diarias by Benjamin Roth" that was less than 100 years ago America was not what it is today. Notice that most people that are from Dr that leave Dr come back to retire over here. I think living somewhere and vacationing are two different things. You can't really judge a place just by visiting. And price people pay to live in the US, for me personally is to high
Tommy, as always thank you for your info on what to expect from living in the DR and more.. After living in the US for over 18 years I’m getting ready to get out and my destination is DR.. married with 3 kids.. I’m coming to DR Tommy.. Will need a 3 BR 2Bth apt… Any suggestions please.. Thanks

@ I am from nyc and that’s understandable on the first floor but on a beautiful island it seems like too much preventative measures might as well stay in nyc
@@shamelk19 we dont agree but thats fine.
on my pension i could pay for a year and have money left and i speak spanish what am i doing in my country
Something to consider for sure
Living in DR is not the move. After 2 years you’ll see why. Keep the lease short I recommend.
It's been almost 3. What was your experience?
No entendí nada ! Ya que no hablo inglés 😂 pero es asi como dice mi bro ! Saludos bro👋 ❤
Ya viene hoy el video en español en el otro canal, lo estoy terminando
@@TommyBryson a pues lo espero 😎

Great video, why are inverters more common than solar power in dominican republic?
Inverter can cost about 400-800 US dollars, a solar panel system is alot more than that. Mainly price brother.
Where in the DR is this location?
Around the Juan Dolio Side of the island
Sancristobal is not cheap
Hello, how many square feet is this apartment?
excellent question, i dont know. But both rooms can fit a king size bed and have some space left over, and the living room is the size of 1 bed and and a half i think and the kitchen as you can see probably half a bed room, and the bathroom 1/3 of a bedroom. Alot of math and sums to add, if you come up with an answer, please share it
@@TommyBryson Thanks
You get what you paid for.
That depends. Infrastructure in a country is a huge catalyst. You can pay alot of money but cannot control power outages or water issues.
PROPHYNE GAS ? ELECTRIC PLATES !
We'll be buying an electric stove, but here it's tricky since the electricity goes out. So we would need both
How much would it be if you got something a little better?
Check out what you can get for $280

Survival maybe , But I would not call it living.
Lol, I've seen survival. This isn't it.
Good information! Can Expats own land there?
Yes you can! As I understand it.
No disrespect, but who would want to live like that? U may as well live in a tent. Know it’s your choice, but brah!
Maybe you have a master future plan where you are conserving your money. Do you. But I couldn’t do it.
Read about 1929 and living situation, do a little more traveling and talking to more people. Watch a show called Homestead Rescue. Opening up to these ideas, can be life changing. I rather live like that, than a 40 hour work week and a 30 years mortgage.
@TommyBryson Been traveling since I was in my early 20's. Retired since 45. Own my home mortgage free. Also lived in N.Y..
Proper planning is what it takes! Good luck!👍
@@BIGJ-kb3vc what do you mean proper planning is what it takes?
@@TommyBryson Exactly what you’re doing while you’re young. Being frugal with your expenses, along with some proper investments, etc.
I just mean to say that I couldn’t deny myself certain modern conveniences along the way. But I guess I was just fortunate that I never lived anywhere that I had to. Again, do you young brother, But I do enjoy your content! 👍🏾 GOOD LUCK!
@@BIGJ-kb3vc I get it and thank you. If I may recommend some reading, I would recommend " Your money or your life, vicky". If you have any suggestion on any reading, please share
My head hurt i could not do this as a single person ❤❤❤😂😂
I can live under a rock as long as I have wifi. But in all honestly, these common issues that experience in most places around the world.
You dominican right
Yup
Nah he American
En que ciudad ese apartamento?
Precio está rebueno
"actually" lol
My favorite word
If I had a penny for every time you said "actually", I could pay rent lol
Thank you for the informative video though!
Dude. You say, “actually” a lot.
Working on that
The overuse of the word actually was very distracting. I couldn't imagine having to listen to it for very long.
Ungrateful
I think I mentioned you in my latest video. Still working on the use of that word. Getting better
What's are the requirements to live there, looking to philippines and its kinda crazy that I have to have more money then most philippines earn in ten years.
Wow that's cheap ❤
Yup
This place is dodgy as hell .
Why?
@ sorry, it just looks like a ghetto . And it was built illegally, without planning permission. They ,more than likely don’t even own the land .
He said I didn't want people to know where I live like people are going to go to Dominican Republic and search him out for some apparent reason😂😂😂 you're not that important my guy
Aaaah your assuming that only Americans watch my videos. People without a social media presence get robbed, always best to keep your personal information away from the internet.
But yes, I'm no president or celebrity I'm aware. Just a safety precaution though
A good value? With all those issues, JAJAJA. Well I guess it is because you have free electricity, when its on.
The US is crazy with prices
It depends James, the main purpose of this apartment was to hold my furniture that I brought from Puerto Rico. But then I got tired of moving and decided to stay a little longer.
What I've learned is, people are adaptable. If i were on a mission to build wealth, I would definitely take inconviniences and live in this place for longer.
Like how alot of folks in the US live in shared apartments and rooms
Where is this apartment in the DR
Can't clap cheeks in the kitchen 😂
Can you not be disgusting? It simply isn't necessary.
Grow TF up.
Biggest LIE ever. 😂😂😂😂 it’s impossible to rent for under 500 USD in a décent área of the DR. i live here and I know what I’m talking about. Stop scamming people.
Send me an address please. Thanks bro
Boil your water
Lol yup or install a heater for maybe $100-300
That is for an Apartment?
whats the number so I can rent that spot lol
Very cheap .!!!
Yup
That is bull shit!! Quick lying
Bro actually said actually more than he actually should, actually say actually. If I'm actually being honest.
😅😂😂😂
Who tf wanna move in sum like that
What part of it, is the deal breaker for you?
@@TommyBrysonthe not clean water. No hot water. Electricity going out. No appliances.
Will need a 3 BR 2Bth apt…
Any suggestions please..
Thanks
But it’s in the DR?!?! 😂
Do you like the Dr?
@ that’s like asking if I like being mugged, raped and murdered! 🤣
Seriously, this place cost you $150 per month. I've been to Punta Cana three times, and the apartments are not cheap. Where exactly are you located in DR?
Punta Cana is the Manhattan of Dr
How can I get in contact with you or the number for this place let me know
Too many cons for this apartment
Depends
