@@Buffy-cc7ud hi. It makes no sense for me to walk into a store with an attitude. Thanks for your comment but it doesn’t make sense to me. It’s irrelevant to me. I perceive you to be a Caucasian that has come to see what is being said in this video and to find comments that you can negatively reply to. Only black men and women can identify with the statement I made, which was not from a place of having an attitude; but an experience.
And just in case you are black, which I doubt you are; but just in case; you don’t know me and start looking at your culture in a positive way.

im not black but i wouldnt frequent a place who treated blacks differently either. they dont deserve my business. im not white either. its really important to me to not support prejudice or racist behavior. i refuse! thats why im watching this even though im not black. i want to know which places deserve tourism. hearing from black women firsthand is important to get the right information on this subject. it also may help give me an idea if indigenous women like myself may be accepted. i do have lighter skin but i dont want to just get by just by possibly "passing". ill take my time and money elsewhere. i want to go where its safe for all women period.

Actually, i traveled in Morocco on my own. I spent a very good time. Even in your own country you have weirdos. In Marocco, when you're a tourist you're very protected, man or woman. If you are bothered by someone, go to the police, but be careful, as a tourist the police can put the person bothering you easily in jail for 3 months for a simple argument with a tourist. So be fair in your complaints. The Moroccan government lives off of tourism, tourists are an asset for the country, so they don't want their people to misbehave. In the airport, they also give you gifts for you to have a good stay ect...i went to Marrakech, ouarzazat, ozode, ourika, the Sarah desert, everywhere I went I was welcomed and spent a great time, one of my best trips. I also went solo in Tunisia, in Djerba, it was an extraordinary experience, the beaches are to die for. People are amazing there too, good memories and same as Morocco for tourist, tourism is a big part of the economy there too, and tourists safety is key there also. I never felt unsafe in Tunisia. I live in Paris, grew up in France and sometimes, i feel unsafe here 😩😩 i also feel unsafe when i go to Germany, where my brother and his little familly live because of my skin colour.

As a Black man who has traveled to over 100 countries, I agree and have experienced much of what is stated on this video, especially in Morocco and Italy. Christmas night, 2017, my wife and son had to walk three miles back to our hotel in Rome because no taxis would stop for us. But after thirty years of traveling the world, I’ve learn to expect it.
However, what truly breaks my heart is when it occurs in African countries. Most notably South Africa, Botswana and Cameroon, I’ve had wait staff and hotel clerks pass me over to attend to white customers.
I can handle racism from whites, Asians, middle-easterners and Latin people, I’ve been dealing with that all of my life. But when people of your own hue shit on you to appease whites, that’s particularly hurtful.
But I’d like to end my comment on a positive note; the friendliest place that I have personally experienced as a person of color is The Gambia. Sweetest people on earth. The country is small, the people are poor but I have never felt more warmth anywhere else.

I am from India, and I can vouch for that. People here, despite being brown themselves are some of the most racist people you'll ever get to meet. However I really hope people are changing, but it will take a long time to change.
People here are obsessed with fair skin, so much so that if you do not come under the fair skinned group, you will be looked down upon, and this is something that happens to the people who actually are Indians. We boast about being diverse and shit like that, but the people are so divided, it's shameful.

How many Indians claim to be white unless they moved to the west where they can be given privileged status thanks to Affirmative Action?
If NOT for white Christian men, slavery would still be common in most of the world. It was white men who ended slavery in our own countries then FORCED other races and races to end slavery in their countries. WE NEVER GAVE THEM A CHOICE.
In INDIA doesn't CASTE still matter?
instead of your fellow Indians YOU WORRY ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS WITH HURT FEELINGS?
All these African Americans complaining about not being treated well but won't move to Africa to FREE the 10+ MILLION African slaves in Africa
TODAY . Africans enslaved by Africans , sold to Africans and kept in Africa.
Wouldn't FREEING those who are slaves TODAY
be more important than complaining about slavery whites chose to end over 150 years ago?

I was about to comment the same thing! I’ve lived in India on and off, and the patriarchal culture makes being a woman a rough experience. I have known many foreign women who have been groped, most of us have been cat called, and if you’re a foreigner....you’re getting ripped off and overpaying.
The personal space bubble there is also non-existent if you are used to how far we stand apart in the west. They stand WAY too close. And the cutting in line is a real thing. From my perspective, they do this to everyone....especially if they have one item and you have 20, they walk in front of you. I have had several confrontations with people who felt the need to just step right in front of me, which the store staff found hilarious. It just made me so angry. Now I know it’s mostly cultural.
Overall, it’s best to have some knowledge of the country and culture before going, and safest to travel with a buddy...though I’ve traveled solo there.

None of those complaints were bad treatment. They could have rolled with it or they could guess it was some sort of slight, which almost assured that it was not. That was their internal demons and not the people who simply pointed at someone unique in their experience. Surely if they talked they would have found no illwill was intended. You probably point at celebrities in your own society. It means nothing in China other than "oh, look" and it might mean they thought the women were beautiful or maybe they were unique because most were overweight which is rare in Asia.

The same thing happens with white people in China, if you're not in one of the big metropolises like Hong Kong or Beijing, people stare because you look different and even try to touch you as if you were a zoo animal... and Yes, some people don't know boundaries and they come across as rude, even if they are just very curious.
In Maroko they seem to have an obsession with blonde children, they have some themselves, but that's very rare... there's a myth that stroking blonde children on the head brings good luck... I'm sure you can Imagine the confusion of parents with blonde children when complete strangers suddenly touch your child...
While we're in North Africa, ..... the traders in the markets are very aggressive in advertising their goods... they drag you into their shops if they think you have money, no matter what color your skin is... I recommend that as a woman you never go to these markets alone, it is better with a male companion....
Something similar happened to my friend, and he is a German man... he was at such a market in Egypt with his little daughter... suddenly one of the sellers grabbed the child to pull it into his shop, hoping that the father would would follow... oh yes he followed... my friend punched him in the face, there was a huge commotion until the police came.
when my friend explained what the seller was trying to do and then the crowd turned against the seller...but first they wanted to beat up my friend...the policeman shouted at the seller and my friend was allowed to leave... But the damage was already done, the little one was totally frightened and cried heartbreakingly and clung tightly to her father... the people were suddenly very nice and wanted to help, but my friend gave them a death stare, and they retreated.
It is said that when someone goes on a trip, they can experience something....um yes, you can....sometimes very unexpected things, no matter how well you prepare.
Doesn't refer everything to racism, some people are just idiots.... annoying when you catch one or the other on your hard-earned vacation.

@@brianlawson4368 yeah…. There are a lot of different reasons people get treated different ways. It’s not as simple as one aspect. I definitely oversimplified my comment (as this is the interwebs). 99% of the 30 or so black women I personally know who’ve been to Italy had an experience similar to mine. But a couple had a hard time. In general, being a “glamorous “ American is a “benefit”. But look at Oprah, when she’s in Europe she’s often treated badly…. She “looks” African. I am extremely light skinned with a red Afro… I get treated *very well. It’s not a compliment to me, tho… it’s still based on inherent racism. If I am treated like a start but Oprah, an actual superstar is treated poorly, we are still talking about the same problems of racialization. There’s also just random interactions people have that can be nationally based… America is not super popular right now… I’m in Europe several times a year for the past 25 years and I’ve seen a shift in how people react to my nationality over time. Anyway… this is a book at this point. I don’t negate anyone’s lived experiences

@@brianlawson4368 I mean, that’s interesting…. I’ve been all those places you’ve been and all over Italy. I really enjoyed Rome and most folks I know had a great time there. But tbh, your comment makes sense sociologically. I usually think that in Europe they have the biggest problems with the “colored folk” they know or are closest to. My German husband grew up being told all the crime in his town was due to Turkish guest workers who moved there after the war. They get talked about and treated like black people in America. In southern Italy they are super close to Africa and so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were more racist towards black people in that region. My sis and I were in Northern Italy once and messed up a train transfer and ended up on the Swiss border. We didn’t have our passports on us (as we weren’t intending on leaving Italy that day… it was before EU) so we were stuck till a return train was coming… till dawn. There was an African mom with her little boy and she got fully searched by border agents… all her bags and things, treated like a criminal when it’s clear she’s just a mom… nobody else got searched and there were like 20 people waiting to go back.
But I think what ppl are talking about is aggregate experiences, meaning on average how are people treated in this country. I know the country in a whole has a reputation of being extremely racist to gypsies, but as many many people say, black Americans often (qualified statement since not ALL do) enjoy Italy.

They detailed me the either day and placed me in hand cuffs as they took me to a hospital to confirm I wasn’t a drug mule only to drop me off at my hotel later that night without an apology. I later found out I wasn’t even arrested yet they placed me in cuffs. I was informed later that brown girls who travel alone to Bermuda are targeted in customs often. Didn't you know America is a melting pot and if blonde hair blue eyes w.a.s.p.-appearing people never are assumed to have any tie to Sweden, Germany, Poland, whatever European country, then that assumption shouldn't be projected onto other Americans just because they're not white.

I've had similar experience in New Delhi, while I was there I also noticed that they would ALWAYS attend to my white friends and colleagues first and me last.... Generally speaking, as black person when a non black person acts ignorantly towards me in a physical way like pointing, moving away from me or clutching their bags, I immediately flip it around and act in exactly the same way towards them. Yes I'm petty like that, lol and I love doing it to them! 🤣
For instance, I stepped into an elevator once and there was this white woman, who immediately shifted her hand bag to the opposite side, away from me and held tight to it. Luckily I had a bag with me as well. I did exactly the same thing, exaggerated it while muttering the words "OMG!" I deliberately acted uncomfortable like this woman was going to jump me and when the doors opened, I couldn't get out fast enough 🤣🤣🤣 The embarrassed look on that woman's face that day is one that still makes me laugh every time I remember it.
I think I mentioned this next incident on one of your videos, or perhaps this one when I first watched it, forgive me for repeating myself... I was by myself once in some beautiful outside caffe in Italy and a family sitting close by kept staring at me, rudely pointing at me and speaking Italian. So, I brought out my phone, pretended to Facetime someone and I kept looking back at this family and pointing back at them as well🤣🤣🤣

This perspective is spot-on for Australia. While I was working there, in 10 different cities all over the country, I personally had a fantastic time as an American black woman. But, the racism is very open and very blunt whenever the topic came to the Australian Aborigines. It shocked me to be treated so differently from a fellow black person (as opposed to the white American nationalists outright hate of everyone of colour, lumped together).

I am married to an Italian, a Roman Sicilian. I have had one horrible overtly racist experience when the Fascist government came into power. Before that, Italy was a wonderful breath of fresh air, where I was able to escape American RACISM. People were warm and welcoming. I met the most wonderful man in the world, married him and had my children. His family loves me as if I were their own child. My mother in law told my husband if he ever made me cry she would "curse him with the evil eye"😂 Italy is a wild card. The North like Tuscany, Bologna especially Milano is so RACIST and scary, it seems like Nazi Germany. Yet in the South where everyone is more brown the people are warm and helpful kind of seeing you as similar as them. We left Italy for awhile during the height of the Fascist regime. I had a horrible experience with a deranged racist man, so we went to Spain. We came back to Rome and it's back to the place I love ❤️

If you're black and are wanting to visit Asia, I'd recommend the Philippines. I run into black international travellers there off and on who seem happy to be there, and I don't think Filipinos in general have a bad attitude about people of African ancestry. There is a cultural preference for lighter skin as a sign of beauty, but it is not the same as active racism aimed at darker skin people. The Philippines itself has seen a lot of cultures come and go, and mixed race people ("mestizos") there have been part of the culture for a long time. Honestly, they have some of the best beaches in the world, some lovely mountains, and, if you're into it, some very interesting historical sites.

At each hotel and safari lodge we will engage the help to understand what their lives were like and they were open with us about the good and the bad. The wild life was astounding. I can never forget that on my first day on safari I counted 30 entirely distinct species of animals. 2007 I visited Ghana and I paid more attention to the lives of the people and their histories. Both countries were exceptional. I live in the Caribbean which has its easy-going charms, little in the way of wild animals, but great sea life.
