Konami makes 2.4 billion per year selling pachinko machines and other junk. Even Bloodstained, which was massively successful by indie standards, wouldn't even represent 5% of their annual revenue. Stuff like this isn't even close to being on their radar.
In an era of asset flips, shovelware and heartless cash-grabs this stands out a MILE! You can tell a lot of , not just love, but understanding went into this... Understanding what made it's inspirations so good in the first place.... And the Gameboy mode is the icing on the cake! Bar-JAN!

Look up plagiarism, if there is a chance of confusion then it is copyright infringement. Castlevania isn’t anything near dracula. You just can’t take a persons intellectual property, rename it and then it’s ok. That isn’t the way IP works.

What a great looking game. I do think the developers missed a huge opportunity with they did not name the main character Sinclair Strange. That sounds like a more fitting name than Gladis. I definitely will be keeping an eye on for this one.

This game brings up memories. I still remember my parents buying me the NES that came with the Duck Hunt/SMB 1 Casette. I was so happy and Castlevania and Mega Man were the first games my parents got me. Happy times 😊
Looks great! I only recently got into Castlevania & it's interesting how these devs are extra dedicated to the original era. Usually games like these have a retro aesthetic but with modern twists

Change to setup you'd like
Click done
Then Save as Preset and create a label to help ex. (Crypt Stalkers)
It will stay in this setup until you change it back.
All you have to do to reset it is go back into Button Mapping and select Reset.

Game looks jam-packed with content for me to die on many, many times
I picked this game up earlier today on Steam and I'm about to give it a go. I know this channel is for Switch, but if anyone was curious, this game is on Steam, and it's only 3.39 CA! (And if by chance I were to win a copy of it, it'd be going to my oldschool-Castlevania-loving friend lol)
I think the art style and color pallet of this reminds me of Rare’s early titles in a really good way. Love the music as well!

I really love and respect the fact that the pixel art in this game actually resembles the NES style. This, for me, makes it stand out of the bunch of pixel art style games that get made that often end up looking very similar.

I really think the black background on the stairs tiles looks odd though. When there are stairs covering multiple tiles against a different colored background, it’s this random black zig zag sticking out…nit picking, I know. But I had to mention it!
This looks great! I've just finished symphony of the night for the first time and really enjoyed it, but the earlier castlevanias are a bit sluggish to play, so I'll definitely be checking this one out. I love the look of the game boy version too!
I just beat it this morning in the regular mode. It’s very challenging but nowhere near as hard at a Castlvania game. I enjoy the fact it has a casual mode and a portable console mode. It’s a thumbs up from me for sure. An amazing throwback game for only $2 American.

That is a wicked throw back. I remember castlvania and Simon quest. Do dang difficult until game genie came out and bam you could enjoy the entire game with infinite hp.

In all seriousness, this looks like a lot of fun. I got into the Castlevania series late in life (with Rondo of Blood being my introduction to the series), but it quickly became one of my favorites. Can't wait to try Crypt Stalker out.
This is definitely a interesting looking game but I'm a little disappointed by the fact it's not a nes metroidvania. But that GB game also definitely makes this look great.
Love the nostalgic feeling from the green Gameboy screen. May have to grab this one at that price.

I watched this review when i got back from the pub last night half cut. Downloaded it immediately at about 1am this morning and finished it on my first attempt and was really disappointed with the ridiculously easy difficulty!!

There that stupid term again that people like to use very loosely. Where Is the Metroid style in this? I see games that play exactly like Metroid but not like Castlevavia or vice versa. Yet everybody says Metroidvania. It's not like Castlevania invented the core gameplay to roam around collecting power ups. That was Zelda. But Metroid was pretty much the side scrolling. I don't see nobody ever calls Zelda 2 metroidvania or Kid Icarus metroidvania.

I am a huge fan of Castlevania, especially the firsr half of the series so, I always love to see great games inspired by the series. This definitely looks like that. Glad channels like your's are highlighting these smaller games thst can get lost in the pile of the eshop.
Well this is right up my alley. I actually can't believe how cheap it is at the moment. Even if this game wasn't aimed at my preferences (example a FPS) it being a small UK indie I would have bought it at this price just to support them as they obviously have put alot of thought and effort into this. And hopefully they will bring out more in the future with as much let's say nostalgic class.

Okay, yeah, I think I need this. I played a bunch of Castlevania III as a kid (though I didn't finish it until I was an adult), and I really adored the Bloodstained side-game inspired by that same 'vania.
It always helps to see that Crypt Stalker features a female protagonist, ngl
Sits nicely next to Bloodstained and Lords of Exile, a solid Vania clone. What gives an edge compared to those: this mimics the NES style best. From the color pallette to the physics it does a better job than most others, even Shovel Knight (which never felt like an NES game in the first place). Gameboy mode was a nice plus.

Sequelitis covered Castlevania and the VALUE in NOT having directional whiping. It allows the other weapons to shine. When you can whip however you want, the other weapons become useless and silly.

I'm always gladdened when somebody reaches back to OG Castlevania. It's a distinct genre that exists, but doesn't get enough recognition. Like megaman-alikes, it doesn't really have a name. Actually it has it worse because b/c people think of the later metroidvanias.

I Recently played Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 1 and 2, The Messenger, and Axiom Verge. All of these were a lot of Fun, and I love that this genre is still amazing and growing

Saw this on Deku Deals but just skipped over it due to the promotional image so I WOULDN’T have fathomed it would such a good romp!!! Definitely on my radar now and I (much like everyone watching I’m sure has said or will say) it’s super awesome to see you blokes bring attention to a lot of these niche releases! Love how they included the de-make cause it just feels like so much bang for your buck honestly on top of everything else they already packed in there at that price cause it just feels like going over the top honestly.

This looks really good but watching this my only question mark is how quickly the jump drops from its peak. I'm sure it feels alright in play tho and it’ll only cost me two quid to find out and have fun with it.
Update having played it: The jumping actually feels fine, though I think Gladys feels a bit too quick in every aspect. The game is fun and a bargain (or barjhan) at under £2. My problem is with the controls generally. Whip and Jump are backwards from what is the norm at this point, and use of sub-weapon is via toggling to it rather than just pressing one of the many available buttons. Worst of all, there is no control configuration option. You can swap the whip and jump at the Switch system level, but that’s still very clunky. And honestly, toggling between weapons makes no sense at all. I understand a need to be slightly different from the game’s obvious inspiration but, in this case, it wasn’t necessary. I hope a patch brings these changes to the controls.

This one is on sale right now and just picked it up and had a go. Fun little game that would be flawless except for one MAJOR complaint, which is the location of the attack/fire button.
Dude, if you grew up playing Castlevania, Contra, or most other great old school NES games, the attack button was B on the left and jump was A on the right. In the SNES era, they fixed this on the four button by mapping it on Y.
For the love of all things right, it would be nice to see the developer make a patch that fixes this. Otherwise, a brilliant game blemished by something that could easily be fixed.

Update: After an hour with this game, I most enjoy the challenges. Character walks hyper fast, double Simon's speed. You also cannot remap controls, which is odd. Feels old school complete with frustrations. Doubt I'll bother beating or playing more than a couple times this week before deleting. Happy to support indie nonetheless. Watch for falling blocks alluding to melting platforms in Egypt.
