@@jeffblackwell5493 ordered immediately when it went in stock, paid for the more expensive shipping. They shipped, I received a day later... Which was crazy fast even for the expedited shipping. Usually I get from them in 2-3 days when I do expedited.
One of the main differences with the Play Asia version that I really like is that you can actually buy it.

As a collector I love it when a game has reverse cover art, specially when it's designed to be used as an alternate cover. It costs the publisher mere cents, but it adds so much value for us consumers.
I feel like it also makes up for the lack of manuals and other inserts that games used to come with often back in the day. Its not much but it's something.
@@cubicintellect1271YES! In fact, I hate the fact that Switch jewel boxes have tabs for a game booklet but they never seem to come with a booklet! Some games could really benefit from even a SIMPLE controls tutorial. More often than not, you get NOTHING. Nobody will convince me that Nintendo can’t afford it.
You seen the one for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age? The outer artwork is Amano's logo, which is nice and all, but the inside has a beautiful portrait of the characters by Yoshida. The one problem? The red on the spine is ever so slightly darker than other Switch games, so if you flip the cover to the nicer artwork the box stands out like a sore thumb if you have all your games lined up on a shelf. Drives me nuts.
Glad I have the Playasia version coming. That artwork inside is a nice extra touch.
In 20 years time and you feel like playing this. Would you really care if there was artwork so long as you have the cart? Preservation is the key for why most people collect.
These nitpick that people put on these products are seriously overrated. As long as I have the physical content which allows me to beat the game(s) then that’s all that matters.
@@cbgg1585 As a collector myself, I disagree. Part of the collecting experience - at least for me - is admiring the artwork, flipping through the manual (if it has one), looking at the goodies that come with some physicals. On that note, I really lament the death of videogame manuals.
@@cbgg1585 There are different types of collectors. Some collect for the reason you mentioned, others collect to see the collection on the shelf, others collect to get a full set of a console. I've also had someone tell me that they buy games digitally and physically. For him it was all about the beautiful covers, he never wants to open and play them. Personally, I could not understand that either, but there is not only one point of view.
@@cbgg1585 You are correct. It's honestly not a big deal at all. I think it's just a nice small thing that they did. Also, completely missed out on the Square Enix version since they stealth dropped it. This is really the only option for a physical cart for me anyways.

Yeah have to break a seal to play a game is a common thing. The other thing is called scalper or scammer and thats the reason why there is no game out anymore for a normal price…
@demyxix1273 dude I agree with you man. I play all of my games. Only sealed copies is probably 1 and that's Gears 5 becsuse I got it super cheap.

It's been years since I last bought something from Play-Asia. The last time I bought something from there was when I wanted a GameCube Controller Adapter for the Wii U. I bought one that also works on PC. I still have it to this day.

As of October 2023, no sign of NA version on Amazon Canada. Didn't looked elsewhere to be honest. Anyways, after watching your video, I'm super glad I ordered the import version. This copy will stay sealed and will be a nice addition to my collection !
I truly appreciate this video. I decided to pull the trigger and buy the Asian version of the game.
I hate the way SE decided to release the physical copy of this game in the west particularly the US with the whole limited SE store exclusive physical release that with the $25 shipping fee was $100 (more after tax) it made a release that should have been a delight and praised feel a scam and to see that the Asian version which much to my surprise can actually be purchased without having to search the after market is not only the same software wise but arguably better for the cover of the physical copy and less than $100 made me feel better about buying it and at some point getting to replay older FF games that I enjoy
I'm still curious about this whole asian thing with switch games. Mau I know the differences between those and other regions as a whole?
I almost always go for Play-Asia versions if I can't find the NA version. There's a lot of skepticism and whatnot, but I can just assure you: they are the exact same game in the language your console is set to. That's it. You want Grandia HD collection? You can either get the "Limited Run Games" edition for hundreds of dollars, or the Play-Asia one for like, $40.
I’ve got the PlayAsia version on the way. I wasn’t going to miss out on this, so as soon as it became available I snagged it up. I thought it would do what the Square version did and sell out quickly so I FOMO’d it. Lol. However it seems like it’s still available to buy, which is a great thing.
I almost fomo purchased it but decided to wait. Its now a few days away from 2024 and its still available 🤣 ill probably pick it up in January or February since I never see a price dropping on this one.

I fomo'ed the play Asia version. When I heard you could change the music to the original soundtracks I was sold. Us console players got the definitive version which is awesome and appreciated 😊.
I used regular shipping I'm in no rush, so many games backlogged.

Ordered the Play-Asia version. Now I'm a little glad the Square Enix Store version is sold out, otherwise I wouldn't have found the Play-Asia copy, which honestly just seems better. I much prefer it having inner artwork and the cleaner cartridge is nice. Probably won't have it for like a month but seems worth it. Never played these games before but I'm looking forward to checking them. Also not getting it for like a month gives me time to get into Tears of the Kingdom.
That's real shame that the industry doesn't put additional content inside the box anymore...

Huh, cool to learn the Asia version for this game is basically like "world" versions of 3DS games where it's just the US game on a cart and put in a new box.
Nice to have that confirmation after I recently learned the hard way that regional differences still exist in games even if the console is region unlocked. It was my first time buying a game from overseas and I thought I'd be fine buying a physical Japanese copy of Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star since everywhere I looked it said the game supported a handful of languages (including Japanese and English); you can imagine my surprise when I booted up the game and the only language offered--for both text and speech--is Japanese. Plus, to add insult to injury, I didn't know at the time that an Asia version (which offers all the languages the US one does for text and Japanese and English for speech (something not even the US version has IIRC)) would be coming out ~1 month later, lol.
Yep.. some people have argued in my comments that games will default to the region of the Switch... and while sure that can be true, its not true all the time. Ive had a similar thing you mention happen to me as well. So though many games will have multiple regions released, it doesnt mean they all have the same support for languages or updates etc.

Way to go above and beyond Square Enix USA.. 🙄 I've ordered some products from the main SE site, I swear their employees hate themselves more than I hate myself. The weird week offs they take shipping anything + $20 and up shipping fees, they don't want our business.💀
I just wanted to say this video really helped me out. I was very nervous and not sold on the Play Asia version.

The Asia version is better due to the inside art. However, when comparing the Asia version and the Chinese version on PlayAsia, the Chinese version is even better because of the nicer back art (PlayAsia's twitter has a screenshot posted on 4/19).
You see, the Chinese version has more space to highlight Celes, while the Asia version has a vertically squashed picture of her (although it includes a different picture of the Falcon as the intro for FF6). Also, a command window takes up a lot of space, making the moon partially obstructed by text.
The same kind of goes for comparing Switch packages and PS4 packages. The back cover of PS4 packages has a vertically squashed picture of Celes (which makes it look like the logo of "FINAL FANTASY VI" sits right next to her) and the PS4's blue-colored package interferes with the inner art whereas the Switch packages have transparent cases.
All in all, either the Chinese or Japanese Switch version has the best package design overall, mainly because of the inner art and the larger picture of Celes on the back cover.
I gotta say the pixel remaster packing for the USA/EU edition, regardless of Switch or PS4, leaves something to be desired, namely:
- No inner cover art
- Vertically squashed picture of Celes on the back cover
- No memorial ultimania book in the collector's edition, unlike the Japanese collector's edition
EDIT:
If you compare USA Switch packages and USA PS4 packages specifically, I'd say USA PS4 packages have better design because:
- There is no inner cover art anyway, PS4's blue-colored packages won't get in the way
- PS4 packages are horizontally wider than Switch packages, so text on the back won't obstruct the moon
Does the Japanese Switch release have English language support?
@@supbro6505 Yes it does. Unfortunately, though, the Japanese Switch is currently available only in the Japanese collector's edition. And because of exclusiveness, I highly doubt it will be available on PlayAsia. The Chinese edition IS available on PlayAsia, though.

To be honest, if it didn't have the rating on the front, I'd go for it.
I firmly believe age ratings should not be on the front of games, it just ruins the art. The German rating is absolutely disgusting to look at.

For the colors, I actually don't know since I don't own the Asia version. From a PlayAsia's twitter post on 4/19 where they compare the back covers for the Asia version and the Chinese version, it does look to me like the Chinese version is brighter (e.g. you can probably see the face of Level 5 Death in the Chinese version better than in the Asia version). So my guess is that USA/Japanese/Chinese have brighter colors than the Asia version.

How did people already get their PlayAsia copies? I got my preorder in on the first day and got the confirmation that it’d be part of their first production run, but I only got the shipping notification yesterday. How are people having them already? Lol
I dunno which shipping option you used... but I am an impatient person and had 1 bad experience with their regular shipping some years back.. so whenever I order nowadays I just say screw it and pay for the more expensive shipping option. They use fedex for that and it shows up quick. I got my shipping notification then the next day it arrived... which was definitely a bit faster than usual. Lot of times it take a few days.
@Madlittlepixel agree with you here. If you use regular shipping you're looking at 4-6 weeks out from shipping date. If you can wait, then great. But for peace of mind I'll pay the extra $20+ for FedEx. Tracking and delivery the next day. My copy of Pixel Remaster shipped on 4/19 and was delivered to my office on 4/20.

It is great that the Switch have the same update file for different regions of the same game. I know that the PS3 and PS4 had different updates, DLC, and saves for the same game but different regions, at least from my experience. I do wish that both the sprites and font is larger in the pixel remaster.
The colors of the cover images are therefore different, because different parts of the world have different standards regarding the color profiles of printing houses.
Wow. I thought all the games would be under one hub on the cartridge but it’s exactly the same as the digital. The only difference is you have a physical cartridge.
Yeah, that's really really dumb. Should've been like the X Legacy Collection where you have a super cool menu to select each game with some rockin menu music in the background. I shouldn't be surprised they went for the absolute bare minimum.
@@3godzilla3 the thing is that every game is sold separately and on ps4 each game has its own trophy list which i prefer way more. Imagine 6 games put on one icon and on one trophy list, i dont know how some people would prefer that.

I tried waiting for the Square Enix store to restock and now it's saying no longer available. I even signed up for the waiting list. Nothing. Now the Square Enix store can take a flying leap. I purchased my copy from Play Asia. And after seeing this, I'm even more glad I did. Square Enix America did fans wrong.

It was a blink and you miss it for me and the SE store version of this. I did get the Playasia verison though but it's not shipping till next month. Missed it by a few days! Can't wait to get my hands on this and start with 2. Played 1 last year on psp.
I enjoyed 2 back when I played on it GBA. I like how the battle system was all based on experience. The more you do/use something in particular the better you get at that, similar to what Skyrim later did. This also works for leveling up your HP and MP though. The more damage you take, the more your HP levels up, and the more you consume/lose MP the more your MP levels up. You can even use spells to damage or drain MP from your own allies and it still counts.

Lol if it wasn’t for your video like last month or something saying it was sold out online but available through PlayAsia, I wouldn’t have pulled the trigger. I was heavily debating whether I should spend the 80 on the game, or use the money for gas and stuff for school. Sure enough I forgot I placed the order was actually kinda glad I got the notification saying they took my money (since they fully take the amount only after they have shipped it). Either way, I’m stoked and cannot wait d(^_^o)

While I wanted a physical version, not paying through the nose for it (which also kind of included the $40 for shipping). Now my biggest decision is do I get it for Switch or PS4 (have well over $100 digital credit for each). Maybe will wait for whichever goes on sale first.
Same for me (for the version decision that is). I’m not a big trophy hunter, but I’d make an exception as it seems so cool to see which trophies are available/platinum a collection that is absolutely massive.
On the Switch hand, the art style practically begs to be played in a portable setting. Plus, my broke-ass only has two OLED screens in the house for prime viewing lol - Switch and iPhone. Ain’t no way I’m copping the app store versions, so likely Switch it is!
Take switch if you don‘t care on trophy. The graphic is the same and you can play it everywhere.
I’m still waiting for mine from Videogamesplus. They allowed more preorders than their received from their supplier. They sent the email on 4/19 about it and said they would send an update when they got more info. I’m still waiting for the update email.

The arranged versions of the songs are done so well. Crystal clear production and the musicians just make it pop. Such a good remaster from square.
thank you, I also was curious if they were different in any way. I've seen many different prices on the behemoth auction site. Though I could save $$ buying the digital version I would rather have the physical versions of games. I really enjoy when I sit down to play a game that I have only a digital copy, to find out my kid is playing on the account at college leaving me unable to play.
Plus in the future when the online service is no longer available The physical copy will work

Gotta say I am a bit annoyed at paying $300 for the Anniversary Edition and SE couldn't even bother to have the same inside case art that the Asian version has..
I can't understand why they did that either. Usually Square-Enix pays attention to minor detail. Seems they missed the boat on an already overpriced copy to add that inner artwork.

The play-asia one will age better, as the ink fades over time it will brighten up and look great, but the SE one will become TOO faded within 2-3 years. Less if you put it in sunlight at all.
