    I'm using the Merging Anubis because of the SoundID Reference option for my headphones (Neumann NDH20). I would love to have the USB-c plug & play connectivity of the MT 48. But without the SoundID Reference feature it makes no sense for me. Funny that this great feature isn't mentioned in the video at all.

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  9 місяців тому

      The aluminium enclosure of the MT 48 already serves as a heat sink. The fan is merely a safety measure to keep the electronics from overheating, if the room temperature is unusually high. You can set the Fan Mode to Low, which is the default. In this setting the fan is inaudible except in very hot environments.😊

      @@YesItsReallyKeith keep an eye on the temperature on the display. Play the audio and check it. The fan is to make sure the overall PCB plus electronics do not go over the operational temperature in addition to the fan. Both work together

    Owning a KH 310 I can say that Neumann is a pro company, for pros.
    As for these two products, no doubt they shall be excellent. And they are very much the same, with some minor differences as presented. However, the missed SoundID implementation on MT 48 is a dead-end now, and refers to compromises. Pretty much a missing option for home studio owners who might need a soundcard that can store room/monitor calibration profile on monitor output. That’s a big disadvantage… especially if it was made in mind of traveller musicians who could benefit from this feature on the go… even if it temporary disables e.g. preamp options on DSP. Recording vs. mixing stage, right?

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  9 місяців тому +3

      No, it does not. For DSP-equipped Neumann speakers, we developed MA 1 Automatic Monitor alignment. This is an integrated solution with a calibrated measurement microphone and novel algorithms, including room mode detection. We’re convinced that this is the best solution available.
      For studio monitors that cannot be used with MA 1 (i.e. any 3rd party loudspeakers and analog KH-line loudspeakers without a KH 750 DSP subwoofer), you can use Bus EQ to counteract any room coloration. The MT 48 features a high precision fully parametric 4-band equalizer for each output pair. Click on MIX 1/2/3/4 in the upper right-hand corner of the touch display and select BUS EQ. For measuring the response at your listening position, you could for example use the REW software.

    Thank you for the video. These interfaces are truly a technological marvel and amazing value when you consider the versatility, design and workflow. The average musician/ modest studio will likely go for the MT48 just for the simplicity of USB. However one important question with respect to these units might not be how they compare now, but how will they differ in software expansion 2-5 years from now. Right now the Anubis is further ahead in terms of software development offering more effect add-ons (ex. Eventide black hole reverb) and missions compared to the MT48, but maybe the MT48 will have more attractive plugins in the years to come. Will we buy one unit only to have the other unit offer a software expansion that we really want or need next year? The redundancy between the two units creates purchase ambiguity. I feel like there needs to be a merging (pun intended) of software development between the units which maximizes add-on sales with third party plugins for both units and the difference between them should remain at the hardware level. The anubus should maintain the higher sample rates, DSD and perhaps have exclusive use of ravenna/ dante while the Neumann appeals more to the average studio/ musician via USB-C.

    I use the MT 48 in full network POE or power over ethernet mode with Merging Technologies' audio driver called MAD. To setup my KH120 II aes67's along with the MA1 monitor alignment software. I can say that it was the biggest step up in the quality of audio I produce however, to attain that wasn't an easy feat it was a very steep learning curve. I had to buy a Netgear M2450 network switch and figure out the routing in ANEMAN, Merging Technologies' audio control panel which Neumann Support helped out and made it a reality. The result is much more accurate monitoring compared to my old setup. There is a time to make an upgrade according to how much you value your music and if you are ready to step up a notch. However, they should have made it DSD DXD compatible because that was the thing I had to learn when I downloaded a trial version of Pyramix. In this particular area of music technology as far as a home musician is concerned I'd go for it. But if you are trying to be a full fledged mastering engineer I'd try acquiring Merging Technologies' HAPI or HORUS interface that has the DSD, DXD in order to get the best sounding master.

      Hello, AES67 and SPDIF are two different configurations. But AES67 can certainly implement SPDIF.
      You can install the AES67 driver for MT48 (MAD for Windows, VAD for Mac), and use the Aneman software to route signal through the MT48’s SPDIF/ADAT port.😊

    00:02:04 In conclusion with all the upgrades made for MT48 and the new multichannel monitor mission now the Neumann beats Anubis with 8 more in/out provided by ADAT which is a great plus not only for home studio as mentioned in this video. I can easily give up the network redundancy for the 8 ADAT I/O.

      That's what the Merging Happi is intended to be. The Anubis was designed to be a more portable version of the Happi, with the idea that TV/Film production could be taken into the field. Almost a SoundDesigns competitor of sorts. Will be interesting to see if Neumann reworks that product, as it is very modular and quite expensive. But I know the audio guys working with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra use both Happi and Anubis interfaces for handling concert recordings and live streaming of concerts. They invested in numerous channels (maybe about 90?) to handle all the mics they use.

    Hello.
    Could you explain how I could mix a drumset with the Anubis or MT48 ?
    I understand there are only 4 analog inputs, and for a drumset I'd estimate needing about 8 to 10 inputs, how can I make this work ?
    I guess I have to use the digital interfaces to import my drum channels and mix them, but what's connected to all the drum mics then, in this scenario ?

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  5 місяців тому +2

      Thank you for your interest on the Anubis and MT 48! There would be two possibilities to expand today.
      Using the MT 48 ADAT IO interface
      If you have an interface that has ADAT support with some preamps you can connect this one to the MT 48 and then 8 of those channels can be mixed and recorded from the MT 48.
      Meaning that we also provide on your ADAT drums channels all the needed effects such as EQ, Dynamics (Compression, Gate, Limiter) and Reverb on every channel. Then a Personal Cue Mix can even be sent back to your ADAT interface and monitored from there, all this in ultra-low latency. While the recorded signal goes to your DAW for recording in USB or AoIP as you wish here.
      Expanding via AoIP (RAVENNA/AES67 network port), supported by either MT 48 or Anubis
      To expand this way we recommend using our Merging Hapi MkII interface, the Hapi AD modules uses similar preamps topology than the MT 48 / Anubis, it can also be very easily integrated with our Peering technology via AoIP (RAVENNA/AES67), meaning that as soon as you connect the network port of the Hapi to the MT 48 or Anubis we detect it and can use and mix all the IO from the Hapi within the MT 48/Anubis, so once again we provide a ultra-low latency mix for your artist with all the effects you would need. Even better this can work in full standalone operation meaning that we do not rely on the PC or Mac DAW to run and your artists can still rehearse with their CUE.
      For more help on this please contact our support team via www.neumann.com/en-gb/contact/

    Hi Neumman, do you know how to setup loopback in MT48 for OBS from my DAW? I can't get it, even though you say MT48 has loopback function

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  5 місяців тому +3

      Hi there! The MT48 is essentially a mixer with four separate busses (physical output pairs.). For example, Monitor A is Mix 1, Monitor B Mix 2, Headphone 1 is Mix3, and Headphone 2 is Mix 4.
      The trick for Loopback recording is to go to Menu > Settings > USB IO on the MT48 and enable the Bus Return Mix option for the monitor mix you are using/set to. This enables a USB Input Channel stream you’d set on your recording software. This routes the playback from one (through the DAW1 Channel most likely) in through another software when set to the according USB channel stream input.

      You can, Merging Pyramix DAW exports in DSD, the only one that does this to my knowledge. That's tough though as it's monobit, so it doesn't take multithreading, so you have to record perfectly and use very few plugins in order to not use much of the few CPU horsepower you have.
