Nearer, My God, to Thee" is a 19th-century Christian hymn by Sarah Flower Adams, based loosely on Genesis 28:11--19, the story of Jacob's dream.
The original lyrics to the hymn are as follows:

Still all my song shall be nearer, my God, to Thee,

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,

A sixth verse was later added to the hymn by Edward H. Bickersteth, Jr. as follows:

Chorus
"Nearer, My God, to Thee" is also associated with the sinking of the RMS Titanic, as some survivors later reported that the ship's string ensemble played the hymn as the vessel sank.

Gentlemen it's been a privilege dropping some tears with you tonight while watching this.
I dedicate this song to my late Grandmother who passed away just two weeks ago. One of her favourite hymns.
112 years ago, on the early hours of April 15th, 1912, as the RMS Titanic sank into the icy waters of the North Atlantic, the brave musicians aboard played this as their last song. Sadly, all of them would be among the 1,500 souls lost in the sinking.
They played right up to the last minutes before Titanic broke apart and disappeared beneath the North Atlantic Ocean, taking more then 1500 souls with her.
The musicians stayed right to the end.
To all those who lost their lives at sea
They knew God was watching over them.
When most men were still honorable. Not timid and selfish
They would have been so happy hearing this from their fellow musicians to heaven.
This was the last piece of music 1500 souls heard on April 15th, 1912

This song was played at my mother's funeral and it makes me so happy that she went home.
As I listen to this beautiful hymn, I'm thinking of my adult son, who passed away late last year, at the young age of 37. Kiddo. your old man will never forget you, and we will see each other again when my time comes, I'm sure of it.
My beautiful wife of 49 years passed away suddenly in December. We had this played at her funeral. Every now and again I play this. Such a fond reminder of wonderful times.

The historical significance of this beautiful hym is lost on a lot of people. This is probably the last piece of music over 1000 people heard on their last night on earth in April 4th 1912. I can’t listen to this song without crying. I have been obsessed with the Titanic ever since I could remember. May all their souls rest in peace

This hymn was played during the funeral of a close friend of mine, now on tuesday, January 14th. He died of cancer. He was diagnozed in 2017, and he fought the battle until the very end. He didn't die because he had given up, his body just couldn't take it. He was brave as a lion, and believed in life and in his faith.
He lost no battle. In fact, he won. He was always peaceful about it. He knew what he was heading. He died, 23 years old. Rest in peace, my friend. We shall meet again.

Today I haven't been through as much like a year ago. Friends acting suspicious, fighting and arguing eith Felipe. Sleeping on a bus bench. Then finally collapsing in that hotel room crying and my body full of non-stop goosebumps. Feeling my soul being lifted by God himself.

It was the first Mother’s Day without my beautiful mum 2 days ago and 9 months yesterday since our last moments together. I'm a person who doesn't typically cry that much, which is nothing to brag about it or this is over exaggeration. But, when I hear this and remember that night, her the ship, and the band and people who went down with her, I break down. That ship, The Titanic, was my childhood, and to know that Heaven is the new chapter in life is what amazes me of this ode.

This song is my father's favorite song ever. He listens to this song in our local language almost every day. His faith was unshakeable. People said he is physically challenged but as a son, I never saw it. He never raised his voice on anyone but always raised his hand towards Lord Jesus.

My grandfather died last month, the same month of my birthday. It was a long a day, I saw the day break, because I saw my parents leaving at dawn and what else would it be? Grandpa spent 1 month in the hospital, learned a lot about life while in and in the end he just wanted to spend the rest of his old age. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to practice what he learned and God called him away suddenly. May God have mercy on him and may he finally rest so deservedly. I miss you
This song always has a place in my heart. After not seeing my father for months on end, we all gathered for a surprise 50th birthday and the pictures i took were the last of him living. Daddy went to join his Father that very night in my arms as i closed his eyes. I believe in heaven as i lived with you in your final moments Baba. I believe 100% that it was God who provided those life boats and life jackets for those people who were on the Titanic. God was the one who protected them. Even if everybody didn't make it out, God still made preparations. This is an example of how even through the most grueling situations, God has the power to protect and save. @@benmccann7895 I don't mean that he physically did it. I mean he worked through the people who provided the lifeboats and jackets. God is personal and spiritual. He has a physical representation in the form of his only begotten Son Jesus, who died on the Cross for your sin and mine. I'm not being judgemental, because it says in The Bible that we have all fallen short of the Glory of God.

My Dad passed away on July 2022,it was a long and difficult time to believe that our beloved has gone....but GOD wiped out our tears......now He is nearer to our God❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was 9 years old when I was saved to this heavenly song. God came into my life and been by my side since that day I turned my life over to our heavenly father. It wasn't in a church or with a preacher it was a tent revival with a man who has written books on the bible and sent out tapes free to people to know about god. The bible can be hard to understand so he makes the tapes and explains the bible as he reads it. He never ask for money but my mom would send a donation once a month to help with the literature and tapes he mailed to people. He came to visit my mom in our hometown and told her personally how much he appreciated the donation. He drove a old car because just about every cent he had was to get people to know God as he did. My mom stayed close to him after that has helped a lot of people by listening to the tapes and reading the small books he had made. It consisted of the many parts of the bible with chapters and verses. He explains these chapters in detail to understand them. I've never known someone as my mom and this man to be so dedicated getting the word of god to people. He has since passed and I'm sure god had a place for him and my mom who left this earth to be with our heavenly father.

Wonderful story. God' s Grace is not conditioned to a man's preaching or book. The Holy Spirit reveals God in His multiform ways. Many who never heard the name Jesus will inherit eterniy with him for they fed the hungry', care for the sick, the foreigner, the inprisoned... These are the ones who even ask when they did that for Jesus.

Yes Ricardo, I think Jesus is still the Super Power Person of this World, people may believe or not, but I have the feeling his spirit is still above us all! He teached us about love, forgiveness and taking care of each other, so lets continue and follow his words!
This is the music that was played this morning at my father's funeral. We were only two people because of the coronavirus: my brother and I, in addition to the two operators who introduced the coffin into the niche. Raining. This was one of my father's favorite pieces and today it sounded sad and splendid. He would have liked it up there a lot.

Recently there was a shooting at a church in my hometown of Houston, listening to this hymn not only reminds me to not just write off this event as dumb, but it shows me life is precious. From what I’ve heard a child is in critical condition and I realize that me saying that the shooting is normal is wrong, a child and innocent people getting hurt is wrong. May almighty God unite us all in the kingdom of peace Alleluia Amen.
