I predict a very bright future for Dagashiya. Because I'm moving back to Japan in October, and I'm going to raid it every Friday, LOL... Thanks for the video guys!! ^^
When I watch small business visits/tours, such as this one, I wish I could instantly reach out to the proprietor and let them know how much their positive and informative participation is appreciated. With great appreciation from the mid-west, thank you for this awesome video.
Thanks for sharing, these are usually shops that I pass by when I visit Japan. On my next visit I will definitely stop by and buy some snacks as souvenirs, 10 yen is such a steal!
50 years ago in America this was known as candy store. Penny candy ten pieces of candy for a Penny. This Japanese candy store brings back happy childhood memories. The Japanese owners make me happy and have my deepest respect.
I would like to visit Japan also for those small stores. Here in the northeast of Italy they are almost all dead. I miss the fact that going to a shop was more than buying something
There are three things I want to buy/eat if I ever go to Japan. One is some real Ramen at a real Ramen Shop, two is some Takoyaki from a street vendor, and three is some Umaibo snacks with Ramune soda.
Japan seems to be the only place where the residents don't protest having to wear a mask during Covid. At least you can find some sense somewhere in the world. Fun channel to watch.
Umaibo has increased in price recently for the first time since its inception. It is no longer 10 yen now, which is like 7 cents in US currency. Now it costs 12 yen, which is about 8 cents.
Typical of the people my wife and I came across during our time in Japan. Open welcoming and hardworking. We spent so much of our time walking the areas where there werent many tourists to meet the people and enjoy the experiences they had to share even with the language barrier it was still a cherished part of our travels that we hope to experience even more of . Thanks for rekindling the memories WAO RYU !!
I love Umaibo ( 3:28 )! I can eat like 10 of those in one sitting especially the Cheese or Corn Pottage flavors. 😍 My old company canteen sell some of the snacks featured here and they are popular amongst adults too 😄
Back in the 60’s there was two dagashiya where I lived in Yokohama. Me and my friend would go everyday after dinner, it was just 5 minute walk. So natsukashii! Aloha!
@@rodyinjapan Hi thanks for your reply. Last I went to Japan was mid 90`s, it sure was like a different world! I went to Kinnick Middle school down by honmoku, Yokohama. I loved to see the old lady everyday! Good times in my life. Aloha!
Even before the pandemic dagashiya are sadly dieing out all over japan, even some of the companies that used to make certain brands of dagashi are going out of buisness. This is a very unique side of japanese culture which i love, there are hundreds of types still available but there used to be way more, they maybe cheap but some of them are amazingly tasty, thankfully amazon japan has hundreds of them online to order in bulk so i can experience as many as possible before they eventually vanish.
Umaibo? Edit - NVM. I didn't watch enough of the video. Corn Potage is right behind Shrimp & Mayo. Can't tell me nothing. It's the best. Least favorite is definitely Sarami lol.
Actually the store owners asked us not to include the specific information as they are feeling overwhelmed with the amount of clients they get now and would not wish to increase the amount of customers :)

A cute little store with adorable and humble owners 🥰

I recommend watching Dagashi Kashi after this 👌
Especially season 1 - it's quite interesting to learn about the history of these inexpensive candies!!

Dagashiya is where we can experience SHOWA in the REIWA period.
I love the Umaibo. I order about 300 sticks every month. The corn potage is my favorite.

Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
It’s a great experience to visit them but sadly they won’t survive without additional funding.
Not true if they are the building owners. With the rice shop being in business for 90 years, I suspect they are.

Thank goodness it's awesome downloading videos without having to download subtitles separate
childhood snacks
The store owners asked the video makers that their address not be listed, so I've edited this comment to remove the address.
I agree. Not enough information.
Actually the store owners asked us not to include the specific information as they are feeling overwhelmed with the amount of clients they get now and would not wish to increase the amount of customers :)
Ah I see then. It's good to accept their wishes, so I will delete my comment with the address.
i love snacks
