Sr. Vassa is a patient and hospitable interviewer! Sr. Vassa's point about "Mothers" and its use among Orthodox and patristic minded Catholics is well taken. "I did read the book...." hilarious.
Thank you both for sharing this with us and not presuming it is beyond the interest or need of the laity. Understanding and change often come from the bottom up rather than the top down. As human beings and as laity in the Orthodox church, it is important that we comprehend these ideas! So many ramifications. ❤
Just received my paperback copy of Eastern Christianity In Its Text. Thank you for having Fr Cyril on your vlog and also for being candid regarding the church mothers works. Looking forward to start reading.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me which of Fr Cyril's books deal with freedom (ontological) vs sect like mentality wh/ can develop when you envision free will as necessarily heading towards evil (monoenergists?) that he speaks of near the end (1:13). VERY IMPT. Does he have any more talks on this topic? I have two of his books, will buy whatever else. THANK YOU! His book "Will, Action and Freedom" is out of print - can't find it anywhere though I'm willing to pay the $144. Is there a way to get it? There is something very impt here - about loss of freedom and sects - I NEED to understand this more. Thank you!
Interesting discussion. I have an interest in Orthodoxy but, as a Protestant, have struggled with its ecclesiology, especially in relation to State and culture. The Orthodox Church needs to find a new way to be the Church in our post-modern context. But how does it do this without selling its soul to the political and cultural philosophies of the day? As I see it, nearly every major Protestant denomination, and even the Catholic Church, has sacrificed the Gospel on the altar of radical progressivism, and is suffering the consequences. I've only watched a few of Sr Vassa's videos and don't want to be unfairly critical. Yet, I'm disturbed by this same tendency I see in her. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder when discussing women and the Church. I don't have a clear answer to this question, but what concerns me most is where radical feminism has led Western culture - and the Church right along with it. I get the feeling that Sr Vassa can't decide if she wants to be a monastic or an activist. She'll have to determine that for herself. But, in my opinion, in a culture that is rapidly looking more and more like the old Soviet Union, China, Venezuela (you name the country), the church needs fewer political activists and more people committed to the Gospel of Christ.
Can’t wait to read this book! Thank you Sister Vassa for this interview!!! 🙏🏼 And thank you Father Cyril for writing it!!! 🙏🏼

Hello
