I appreciate the dedication you have to reviewing Orthodox Prayer books. It is a good tool for seeing which prayer books might be a fit based on the individuals needs. I’ll be recommending your reviews to some of my parishioners. May God bless you. -Fr. Mikhail
Awesome overview video of the Orthodox Study Bible. I have both the 1993 and 2008 versions of the Orthodox Study Bibles and use them along with my King James Bible. I agree the Old Testament is clunky in some parts, but once you get use to it, it flows perfectly. May God continue to bless you and your channel!!
Excellent review. I picked one up having heard of it in another channel; particularly the akathist of the our sweetest lord and Our most holy lady theotokos in it which I did not know what was and is absolutely beautiful! I can see the binding is going to bother me in a year. I would suggest you finding a person who can bind it and do a way better job at it if the monastery can’t or will not. I like the idea of having the same one for my whole life, growing with me. Plus, you don’t just throw it out. What a waste.
Thanks to your channel and my new congregation, I’ve discovered this beautiful book. I really like the color icons dispersed throughout. It’s very impressive how many more books are in the Orthodox tradition. Being born a Southern Baptist, I have finally found my spiritual home in Orthodoxy. God bless you brother.
Hi I am newly converted orthodox. Where I’m currently living( Vietnam )there’s is no Orthodox Church so is very hard for me to learn new things about holy Orthodoxy and Christ I’m currently having the Orthodox holy bible almost looks like your one but mine is black color and have some more decorative on the front but there is one thing that me wondering where is the book of Isaiah because Today I watched feasting video, I remember the title of the name was ( it is impossible to feast without Isaiah 53 ) and plus I’m I’ve a short video in UA-cam it’s was about the new heaven and earth Isaiah 65 17-25. I hope you can help me to understand more about. Because love the Culture of the Orthodoxy and love Jesus Christ and the Holy Trinity🙏🏻☦️😭
I've got both of those. Both are great, but I think the 94 NT was a little cleaner and less busy on the intro pages. That blue color is also just gorgeous. That said they are both great and I couldn't agree with you more about loving the Icons.
I’m interested in Orthodoxy and have gotten and consensus that I should buy the Orthodox Study Bible. When I went to get one I discovered there isn’t a set and stone OSB to buy. It seems to be that the most boughten OSB is the Thomas Nelson one but I’m also seeing there are different versions made in different years. Do you recommend I get the OSB by Nelson and what year? Trying to figure out the differences between the study bibles is challenging and I would rather just get the opinion of someone in the faith.
@@OrthodoxReview the 2008 is the same as the older one? I’ve scoped out a 2008 on Barnes and Noble and I didn’t want to buy the wrong one. I’m just trying to have a forever Bible.
I have the other version from Ancient Faith Ministries, the Bible in all is very well put together, however there are Textual Errors (Publisher Errors) compared to the original Septuagint. For example In Gen. 7:3 (OSB) 'and the clean birds of heaven by twos, male and female, to keep seed alive on the face of all the earth.' This should be listed as Sevens, not Twos, because when Noah sacrificed to God he would have wiped out the Dove Species haha. The Real Septuagint states in Gen. 7:3 'And of clean flying creatures of the sky sevens' & KJV: 'Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens.' Minor hiccup in the Thomas Nelson text.
There was newer edition of this (Thomas Nelson, I think) due out in June 2021, with sewn-binding, a leather cover to sniff, and all that good stuff. It was on my wishlist. Then it just mysteriously disappeared one day!! Same with other online bookstores. Any idea what happened? Has it been delayed or cancelled?? Great 'not-a-review' as always :) Thanks!
Thomas Nelson scraped it when people complained that Thomas Nelson was not going to correct the plethora of mistakes the OT had. If you haven't noticed the OT OSB is NOT translated 100% from the LXX. Being that we were getting a Hebrew/Septuagint hybrid when Orthodox people wanted a pure English translation from the Septuagint and Thomas Nelson was not giving Orthodox people in the English speaking part of the world what they wanted they complained BIG TIME and Thomas Nelson pulled their new edition asap!
@@peterpapoutsis496 Thanks for the update, Peter. Been wondering about that for over a year now! I was just checking out the Ancient Faith (leathersoft version), but with $60 shipping to the UK I'll have to wait and see how bad my winter energy bills are going to be before ordering it :)
This is just a warm up for reviewing the EOB right? Man that'd be a review! I think that has a lot of pro's and con's to it. It's got me a bit confusED I must say.
I have an issue with the translation of Isaiah 9:5-6 in the OSB. The title of "Mighty God" is completely missing from this translation even though it appears in the NKJV. Is this a mistake?
@makuballz6516 welcome! I have a playing called Orthodoxy 101, which has (I hope) some helpful videos for newcomers. And, as always, don't be afraid to reach out to a priest!
Good question. Some folks give up on cutting their hair and shaving when they convert. They do this for various reasons. Personally, I couldn't care less.
☦📲 Amen. Reading the Orthodox Bible each day is so empowering. It makes me a whole new person, and it sets the start of my week just right ❤.

They're all the same block texts. It is currently published by ancient Faith ministries.

Bummer
Why all orthofox seem to have long hairs
Good question. Some folks give up on cutting their hair and shaving when they convert. They do this for various reasons. Personally, I couldn't care less.
Why is it called the orthodox study Bible instead of just the Bible? And what makes it a study Bible for orthodoxy? I never really understood that
Orthodox bible contains more books
Also has a lot of scripture commentary from the church fathers
